I am a bit further down the line in banking career, but I still like watching your videos in which you give suggestions to interns/freshgrads. Your points are usually very valid, and to the point. I also like the way you present them. Keep it up
great Video! I'd be interested to know what your opinion is on humour when starting an internship? I got lucky with the humour that I had starting out but in retrospect, people have told me its not something you introduce or use especially on your first day. I'd be interested to know your thoughts!
May sounds like a stupid question, but we all know that hours are intense for an IB analyst but are they just as long for an intern or do they try and ease you in a little bit ?
28 w/ an internship... This is my second internship, in fact this is the 2nd time I’ve ever applied for an internship, which puts me at a 2/2 ratio. Allow me to let you in on something - I have more experience than the avg college student... been working in finance since I was 21. My circumstances make for excellent storytelling, recanting various experiences throughout the years and how they’ve impacted my drive to pursue my path. (Discuss the people you’ve encountered, how they’ve inspired you to push yourself farther.) I am an incoming junior as I didn’t go the traditional student route... which again, makes for a unique perspective and compelling storyline. When interviewing, I express that I’m in a transitional period in my career, may reference something in learning in my Econ classes, and how I’m seeking insight into other sectors of finance. (It goes without saying that you need to be specific about your interest in the firm and the intern role. I also explain how the internship would serve as an introduction.) * During the final process of interviewing for my first internship, the MD did ask me my age. She expressed that I was her team’s favorite candidate but hesitant to select me, because I was already working an incredibly competitive oil and gas division... She ended up giving me 24 hours to think about my decision and I responded by sending their office boxes of donuts, this was around “International Women’s Day” and I thought it was such a creative way to say yes to their offer - please understand that being an experienced adult allows you a different type of advantage! If you get too caught up in competing with college kids, you’ll forget how much more of an asset you really are and how out of the mold you really get to be. In conclusion, this firm ended up hiring me & another student, when they were only seeking 1 candidate for their department... it got to the point where I became responsible for checking errors on the other student’s assignments because the team had more trust in my accuracy, credibility, and work ethic-imagine that!... Keep in mind this internship was last year, but I’m having lunch with this same team at the end of the month. ( Never forget to maintain your relationships, they’re essential to your network!)*** Furthermore, I also express how I am financially in a position to take an internship over working a 9/5. (Most people are not unfortunately, but this typically indicates that you’re not going to be difficult or entitled when it comes to pay. ) Fun Fact: The internship I’m working right now is the highest pay I’ve ever received, it’s in Fintech. To wrap this up - I don’t care what role you’re trying to break into... Unless the criteria specifically has an age requirement, there is absolutely no such thing as being too old! Learning how to MARKET and SELL yourself is key! The professional world is really just one big advertisement industry, and the best marketer always triumph, NOT the youngest. Remain teachable, strategically purposefully, eager to learn new skills and I promise you, you will have the confidence to navigate this journey.
Hey Afzal, i hope you are doing good. You may noticed my comments and likes frequently. I request if you could make video on intership which are virtual and how to make best out of it. Thanks 👍
Hey, I'm interested in potentially working in asset management or private wealth management at a bank in Central London. What are the exit opportunities for these divisions? Do they typically accept candidates from non-target universities or is it a rare thing like in ibd? Sorry for all the questions 😅👍
Yeah if you ain’t going to at LEAST a Russell group uni then you need to have a lot of work experiences and internships to even have a chance of getting considered
Dude I reside in india and there are hardly any IB internships here. Do you think I should apply for internships of JP Morgan Goldman etc that are mostly in US, UK wherever they are?
You can't do a summer internship in your first year of university. You can do a spring week which is similar but only a week and for first year students. 👍

Only seen the first two tips so far but from someone who’s done a couple internships in a big investment bank I completely agree with these points!!!
Afzal guiding us youngsters. Thank you
Ignore the first comment, coming into work with a buss down rolex puts your on MD track
you get me lad
Ignore is a part of our controversial life
Great video!
Great insight. So true.
Love you vids sir .You motivated me to aspire for investment banking
Preciate it afzal
It seems like IB or banks have heavy air in the environment.

They are just as long. Sad I know 😭
Bombarded with work for day 1 week 1.
Probably worse. You don't leave until everyone leaves and you get there before everyone
Cheers for the vid Afzal, another great video idea is *How to get a summer internship without a spring week*
Yo bro, can you do a vid specifically on spring weeks?
Thank you... 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Afzal keeping it real #respecc
How old is too old to get an internship? I know they are not supposed to discriminate based on age but I'm sure it happens
probably 25+
Don't listen to them. I got mine at 26. It's all about your resume. I was still in college so I got it. Good luck.

There is someone in their mid 30s at my internship.. I think as long as you're in college you can get it - not too entirely sure what the cut-off is.
How should one go about communicating timelines with Superiors, How do you update someone or ask for work without being annoying as an intern.

Hey Afzal to become an Investment Banking analyst do you have to move to London?
No. IBs have offices in most major cities. But the top of the world is NYC and London
@@madreus I heard the salary scale is different depending on what major cities you live in. Is this true?
@@raysshine3504 yes it's true, but this is mainly due the cost of living than Prestige
Not to be that person but judging from your name I would assume you are Muslim, and isn’t investment banking Haram?
