I think lack of enthusiasm is one of the BIGGEST reasons why people fail - use your hands, smile, show you really want it and are hungry. I think that's what made my consulting offer tbh
I have over a decade industry experience and realised out of the dozens of interviews i’ve had as a candidate as well as employer that if you’re apathetic about the role or dont really want it, the person will sense this. Also the second thing is you need to be smart, capable and the interviewer needs to be confident you can do the role and is able to work with you.
Im reliefed that your Shoulder seems healed. Keep getting better. I like that your cuts are staedily decreasing. Thanks a lot for the advise with the question at the end of the Interview
The first one - Royal Bank of Canada asking 16 yr old you to pitch an idea and tell them what’s going on in the market: sounds like a bad interview on their part. I’m sure they weren’t expect world-beating answers to those questions but they’re giving the candidate very little opportunity to demonstrate an ability to learn or to develop an idea. (So sounds like you dodged a bullet!) I always prefer giving someone a problem and working through it with them, particularly if they’re entry-level (like a graduate). Someone so young shouldn’t be tested on ‘can you answer this’ but on ‘can you begin to do something interesting and/or useful with these materials’.
I'm not even in finance (or consulting) and I love watching these videos. It might because I'm an MBA and some of the things he talks about are transferable to my industry/or post industry ambitions.
the enthusiasm one is huge. I had a networking call on friday and when im going over my current tasks/accomplishments the guy told me it sounded like i was just reading them with no tone of voice. I'm guessing it's because i've had a few interviews recently and i was repeating the same words..losing the enthusiasm.
hey afzal, i have a question. are buy side internships good if you’re seeking a sell side career, or will it put you at a disadvantage against other candidates.
it sounds like you really have to sell yourself, your soul in these interviews, show why you really want it, even if the job/company itself is somewhat mediocre
Hey afzaal , any chance of doing a video on online tests ? Ie verbal reasoning , mathematical aswell as situational judgment. I flunked my verbal reasoning on RBC internship
Did my first round of interview with Santander investment banking division last week and seriously all of your previous videos on how to prepare for the interviews REALLY REALLY helped. And also just in general all of the contents have been enlightening me so much about the industry and the job. So thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. Also want to ask a question. How important do you think are the accounting questions and other technicals for a summer intern interview? Do i have to get them all correct to have a better chance?
Apply first year as a bachelor's student (I'm guessing nothing would stop you from just doing bachelor's if you don't want to do a full masters, so it's not technically a lie), then you have leeway that in the 2nd year you may have converted your spring from first year into a summer internship, and if you haven't you can reapply to springs in 2nd year as a master's student if you want to convert AND apply to summer internships as a bachelor's
@@rhyssharp9673 Thanks a lot! I was actually thinking along the same lines, or if firms were adamant about only taking me as a second year I would just try cold calling/cold emailing to other firms and get any experience at all. But huge thanks for your input!

Great tips. You sound very experienced.
Afzal, you had no clue when you began but now you're passing it on. God bless =)

hey afzal, i have a question. are buy side internships good if you’re seeking a sell side career, or will it put you at a disadvantage against other candidates.
Its gonna put you ahead of ppl without experience, but not ahead of ppl with more fitting internship experience
Hope that helps

I used all these tips for an interview and it didn't work out for me. Guess I'm just not good enough for any finance role.

Hey Afzal, I’m doing an integrated masters currently so do I apply for spring weeks in the first year or second. Great video as always afzal!
First year. Speak to your uni about this as well
