We used a rental casket for my mom. The liner was even more detailed than this. I was surprised how nice it looked. Our funeral director explained how the rental casket worked. He was very good at his job. He reassured us every step of the way and made sure “mom” was well taken care of, even accompanying her to the crematorium and waiting there. We were supposed to burry her ashes after but I’ve not been able to make that step yet. It’s been ten years, her urn is in a basket on my bookshelf and she is quite content there. ❤

Thank you for sharing this information Kari! My husband and I plan on water cremation but our children want a viewing, now I understand what they’ll need to do. I will share this with all of them. Again, thank you! 🦋

Info people wonder about but usually never know. Had to laugh a bit tho - to see the "advertising banner" on the end of the rental! What's next?
"Gently Used Coffin. Only Used Twice By Two Little Old Lady School Teachers. Hurry Before It's Gone! This Will Go Fast!"
    "Eat At Joe's!"
    "Fire Sale!"
"0% APR wac Chuck's Auto Mall"
Love it! Ya gotta laugh! You need a chuckle at a time like this.

I am really glad that we have you to explain these things. My sister was cremated, and she was in one of these rental caskets. That explains a lot in terms of her positioning, as well as the rental casket at South being different from anything that I had ever seen before.

Well done!! Rental units were becoming very popular during the '80's. Where I've worked, there was a faux wooden shell made of fiberglass that had to be placed over the the top of the cremation unit which was a 2 person job to lift without damaging the rental unit. The families purchased cremation units that came with overlays, pillows, & interior embellishments. The shell was held in place with flanges. It would need to be replaced after 3-4 months of use after so many scratches & scuff marks. The interior's head panels would need to be periodically cleaned or replaced.

I love that natural wood look. I like it much better than the extra fancy caskets I've seen in funeral homes. This one looks tasteful, the others look eay over the top and much too showy...not at all my style. I wonder if one can use one of those for an actual burial.

Kari……those of us listening to the Daybell case wonder about your thoughts of pink foam coming from a deceased’s mouth.
Thank you for your explanation of the rental casket. I had not thought of this.
Also….Thank you for your site. More knowledge of what happens to a deceased person makes me a bit less fearful. I have watched you LOTS. Straightforward answers to peoples questions help.

Sooo.... I'm in a local community choir and we had a halloween themed concert. One of our members has a brother who is a funeral director. He allowed us to use a casket which is pretty much identical to the one in this video. At the time, I figured it was some sort of defective casket (or who knows what happened to it) that they had sitting around in their back room. Now I'm connecting the dots lol! Anyway, our choir director got in the casket and was wheeled down the theater where she popped out singing! I'm fairly sure she may have thought twice about getting in the casket had she known what it was used for lol! Now I'm kinda wondering how ethical that was! Still have the pic of her in the casket and me holding the lid open lol!
