I have the supco umbrella as well & it comes in handy rain or shine. Especially when the sun is beating down during the hot summers in South Carolina as you know Ted. Love seeing a new Ted Cook video 👍🔧
Dielectric grease for electrical connections to prevent oxidation, electrolysis, and crustiness. Never-seize/anti-seize on fan shafts and stuff to prevent rusting and corrosion so they are much easier to remove the next time. One thing I saw that would make an electrician cringe is the lack of a grommet where the electrical wires passed through the metal housing.
My father uses a battery powered leaf blower while the top cage is off to get the leafs out and a ball of gaffers tape on some pvc for sticks. Seems to work well for him
Great videos👍🏽 Love that umbrella. Doesn’t catch everything cuz the size but definitely helps! Sometimes I’ve found the compressor was drawing close to RLA and found the cap was dead but still running. Or cap is bad, replace and it doesn’t change amps, And I’ve found them read ok and fluid was leaking, sometimes I’m just like 🤯🤷🏽♀️
I have one and it's ok if you are replacing a contactor or capacitor but if you take the top off you will not have a stable place to attach. It badly needs a ground pole attachment.
After a few videos watched on Anti DIY HVAC, I have brand new capacitors for the condensing unit and blower fan in the attic in stock and ready just in case. 33 years and both capacitors are still working on our Amana HVAC. Apparently, the industry made good capacitors the older they were made ! Many say these days you should expect a new one every 5 years. In any regard, we're ready for the most inconvenient time of the year that one fails. 5 units on that house is awesome...Initial cost is higher but its very cool to be able to use just one or two or all 5 alternating "as needed" vs. a couple of 5 ton energy hogs flipping on and off multiple times a day, if I'm correct on that. Last time I looked, the 5 ton vs. 4 ton used much more power. Much more than a 3 ton vs a 4 ton which told me to use a 3 ton with a 2 or 3 ton, not a 5 ton due to the operation cost. This is a good video...its nice to come across a homeowner who wanted OEM parts. It's still Vietnam made but at least it fit like a glove as the original. 600 amps to power up that home? Oh my, 200 of that is likely for just the 5 A/C when they are all running at the same time ! Hope the electric rates are low, like 4 or 6 cents a kWh.
Gave me a good chuckle when you said “I really wanted to eat that!” 😂 Why do they put that label on the package, there’s something wrong with you if you wanna eat desiccant…just saying lol. Once again great job Ted!
Hi nothing beats anOEM,replacement, glad the rain was not on that motor replacement, I’ll see if I can find that foaming penetrant, JACK of ALLTRADES, STAY WELL,🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Love that supco umbrella! It does make nervous to see feet in a puddle in the rain, but I know that Ted takes the necessary precautions. I keep an inexpensive patio umbrella near my 2 condenser units for relief from the hot AZ summer 🌞.
In the Paintless Dent Rem9val industry, we use Get A Grip umbrellas and Mobiletech Shade Umbrellas. They have Woods Suction Cup bases, and they have an 80 inch umbrella option. You cannot beat the 80 inch versus the standard 65 inch.
I really enjoyed how you tried to distract from the fact that you were never intending to find the vibration noise by talking about cleaning the leaves out for several minutes! Great work.
Couldn’t help but notice you did not try remove the fan blades after removing the lock bolt. Did it really need the jack of all sprays? I’ve remove many fan blades without having to use any rust penetration spray on a fan shaft.
Hey Ted a friend of mine said he Uses a Doggie pooper scooper to get the Leaves out of condensers mainly the big 5 ton units it might Work pretty good in certain situations.
Nice work as usual, even with the popcorn machine in the background! Like your line, "I'm not usually a chicken" Priceless. from someone who touches run caps with his fingers!
Could you do a video one day for consumers who want to get some idea of how often to call for service a/c inspection and some idea of what to expect to pay for parts and labor ? Most of us are just a fish on a chopping block waiting to fleeced. There are so many a/c companies with "specials" for seasonal maintenance. It is hard to tell the bad actors from the straight ones- thanks from a follower.
The supco umbrella is arguably the best hvac tool I've bought in my nearly 20yrs in the biz. Never mind the rain, those black rubber roofs on a 90 degree sunny day
Paul Blart, Mall Cop..... Love the movie references. I have the Supco umbrella. Left it stuck inside the side of my van and it formed a rust circle under the paint. By the way, we don't do electrical repairs in the rain, company policy. I have been bit many times doing that in the past.
I have this umbrella and works fantastic on residential but never take this on a roof in any kind of wind will snap the plastic legs that hold the umbrella open wish they were metal. All the same great on residential in low windy days.
Yea... I go to all the training except for the the sales related and "coaching" type. Not really sure who teaches those.... I have found the technical classes very helpful. David and Kevin are really very good at training, as well as tech support.
I feel like the writer that wrote the line waterproof shoes and baggies on my socks was from the Midwest because that's something we all did as kids in the rainy weather
I was up on a hot roof with a beach umbrella and a Tech from another company was laughing at me. About 1/2 hour later he ask me where I got that Umbrella from. He, He who's laughing now?
If that was my house ,I wouldn't be outside!😅🤣 Thanks for the videos! 🥃🥃🍺🍺🍺🎳⛳ Stay safe. Retired (werk'n)keyboard super tech. Wear your safety glasses!
Had to have my fan motor replaced last summer and the clown didn't reinstall the conduit. He zip tied the wires to the grate. I made him come back out to install it.
Why dont any of the You Tube guys use a service valve wrench to loosen/remove the square drive set screws! Been doing it for 28 years never broke a single wrench!

How often do you take a shock when touching the cap terminals?

You need a head mounted camera so you can have both hands, freedom is spectacular!
Supco umbrellas great! I'm an installer and use mine all summer and whenever it snows or rains. Best part is all my tools stay dry.
I bought that umbrella last summer. I bought it for the units that are directly in the sun. It's a great piece gear to have.
Great videos👍🏽 Love that umbrella. Doesn’t catch everything cuz the size but definitely helps! That would be Paul Blart in Mall Cop hahahaha... Funny movie.... Love the vlogs and keep them coming and always watching here in Michigan..Stay safe.
Loved watching Paul Blart.
That disconnect and water hazard made me uncomfortable. Stay safe.

Well, if you don't have a SupCo umbrella and you're drenched perhaps eating a few desiccant packages will dry ya out!
Love the way you test for charge in the capacitor,I do that and I can tell you it still hurts 😢
Supco has been around for years, I have used cardboard from a recent condenser installation, a trash can lid and scrap plywood I'm jealous.
How often does your "capacitor discharge tool" give you a jolt?
Just curious- why unmount the a
/c cap before you test it since you pull the wires anyway? Great channel!
Because...
Probably easier to film and show us the capacitor considering the lack of space behind the unit
He prob assumed it was gonna be bad as it usually is like 90% of the time.
Personal preference prolly
We do that so that we can see the values.( numbers )
I install in Alabama.😎

They should mark, build, and position things better so professionals like you can more easily service it in the future.
I really enjoyed how you tried to distract from the fact that you were never intending to find the vibration noise by talking about cleaning the leaves out for several minutes! Great work.
Nice diagnosis and work; that is one nice big house, with a wise homeowner.☺
Been installing for 4 years honestly can't belive I still havnt bought one of these. Ordering it now.

I like the way you touched the terminals to see if it was charged
Hey Ted a friend of mine said he Uses a Doggie pooper scooper to get the Leaves out of condensers mainly the big 5 ton units it might Work pretty good in certain situations.
Good video as always. Will I start seeing Supco products in the adds now rather than Blueon?
Did I see correctly... did he just "test" that capacitor for charge by quickly running his fingers over it while kneeling on wet ground?
You got a smart customer. OE is the way to go most of the time. Thanks for bringing us along.

Great work. Can’t wait to see the follow up service if possible
One thing I’ve noticed is that you don’t discharge the capacitor before touching the terminals 😬
The supco umbrella is arguably the best hvac tool I've bought in my nearly 20yrs in the biz. Never mind the rain, those black rubber roofs on a 90 degree sunny day
The simple 2 way combo drivers have a 5/16 shank, skinny wall to fit those tight clearance starters and cap clamps.
Just got that umbrella, Supco Tradefox last week. I always tight-loose-tight on set screws.

It's been such a drought here in Texas I enjoy listening to the rain.
That camera angle threading the first couple of nuts back on the motor was awesome. 😎👍
I love the umbrella the only complaint I have is I wish it was taller, sometimes you have to be hunched over to get under it.
Hate working in the rain----storms yesterday, why is it on beautiful days you work in and bad days you are out in it---Thanks for the videos--Jim
I have this umbrella and works fantastic on residential but never take this on a roof in any kind of wind will snap the plastic legs that hold the umbrella open wish they were metal. All the same great on residential in low windy days.
Hate working in rain!!! Absolutely hate it!
Hey Ted,
lovin the videos. Was in Mauldin today at the Trane warehouse for some boot camp training. Keep the videos coming!
Yea... I go to all the training except for the the sales related and "coaching" type. Not really sure who teaches those....
I have found the technical classes very helpful. David and Kevin are really very good at training, as well as tech support.
On a full service like you were saying is that just cleaning the out door coil? And what do you usually charge for that?
Why have a meter if you don't use it to check voltage to unit, the pull disconnect and short cap leads. Have you not been nailed from cap discharge.
Love mine! It’s broken in a few places but still kicks ass 😂
I feel like the writer that wrote the line waterproof shoes and baggies on my socks was from the Midwest because that's something we all did as kids in the rainy weather
Got four of those umbrellas two for work and two for camping
I was up on a hot roof with a beach umbrella and a Tech from another company was laughing at me. About 1/2 hour later he ask me where I got that Umbrella from. He, He who's laughing now?
Never did like working in the rain and still don't ... Lol ... Good vid ... Thx for posting ...
That's how my grandfather died standing in water working on an electrical equipment.
If that was my house ,I wouldn't be outside!😅🤣
Thanks for the videos!

Having 5 a/c units blew the budget on gutters. Thxs for the vids,!
Thanks for sharing the video in the rain !
Ol' Ted was definitely NOT singing in the rain on that one. #GoingAboveAndBeyond
😎👍😎👍😎👍
Somebodys gotta do it.
Enjoying your videos from st lucia 🇱🇨 Ted cook
That fingering across the cap terminals gives me the Willie's. Have you ever crossed a charged device?
You must have flunked Electrical Safety 101, working with electricity in the rain.
Just looking at the placement of these two units, they're way to close together to work real efficient in the first place.
Good post, did they go for some maintenance ?
Three panels! What is this a director or someone
I got my first No Cooling call in VA. Payne package HP. Leaked out.
Thanks for filming Ted. I know it’s even harder to in the rain
Why do I hear the main character’s voice from King of the Hill
It sounds like a nitro funny car idling in your pocket!
Wow! That’s a palace! Too bad that the installation didn’t leave enough service access.
Had to have my fan motor replaced last summer and the clown didn't reinstall the conduit. He zip tied the wires to the grate. I made him come back out to install it.
Nice umbrella. Saved my bud several times!👍🏼
Damn that’s a nice palace. Just started watching but hoping you can get the prince some AC.
Circuit breakers for units 5 and 6 were likely behind the Return of the Jedi poster when you first walked in the house @ 7:03
Why put the yellow wire on the supply side of contactor and not on the load side
is that a house or an apartment complex!? holy cow that place is absolutely massive
Multi-millionaires.
Those icp units always rattle . thanks for the video
Yea I have 2 of those umbrellas.. They work great
Just a question. Why do you take the cap off of the unit before measuring?
been raining here in illinois for days. that sound of the rain was too much. im traumatized
Why dont any of the You Tube guys use a service valve wrench to loosen/remove the square drive set screws! Been doing it for 28 years never broke a single wrench!
How many people looked up Jack of all Sprays on Amazon?
Send some of that rain over here to SoCal it’s been mid 80’s this week and dry 💀
Hello from the great state of Michigan
Good job Ted, How's the cat that likes steak?
Good morning from Australia !
Is it bad that I charge extra to work in the rain? Lol
Surprised the holes for the fan wires aren't gasketed.
You're a brave individual checking capacitors for charge with your fingers!
Ted is movin on up. I bet that Contactor was a crusty one two.
Better to be a live chicken than a fried chicken.
Ahh Paul Blart: Mall Cop, watched it a few weeks ago...
Dang, push the contactor in and see what happen.
I think it was from the movie mommy dearest, Joan Crawford
OMG - This guy needs some waterproof work boots!
5 units. Big house. Thanks
It’s ok Theodore your not made of sugar, you won’t melt. 👍👍🇨🇦
I like your cap. check while standing in water.
I was shocked by a capacitor a few years ago and that was something I don't want to happen again that is no joke I would never touch them wires again.
The earliest known use of "not my first rodeo" is the screenplay for the movie Mommy Dearest.
