Respect to Josh for seeing how FSU fans feel, at least he admitted he flip-flopped.
Athletic competition should be settled on the field. Period. Not in committee. Not in polls.
Whether it’s a regular season with more inter-conference play or an expanded playoff… whatever. Decide rights to a championship on the field.
My beef was that the committee waited until the final week to have the teams jump FSU. If their reasoning was that the JT injury should drop FSU out of the top four, they could have addressed that in the two prior rankings. But they didn't. By waiting until the final week, it made them look very suspect.
championship weekend really showed off the difference in level of play. beating florida (who also had a backup qb) is not necessarily a huge deal.
@@rickyrougs What difference? They played complementary football in a monsoon, the whole goal of that game on offense was to keep their defense off the field and give them good field position which they accomplished. Alabama got to go up against a banged up Georgia Dline in a dome

The CFP committee didn't have the balls to drop a team after a horrific injury like that so they let UF and Louisville do it for them and when they couldn't get the job done they sunk the knife in themselves.
I think they didn't wait based on the injury. They saw that FSU wasn't playing well at all _AFTER_ their QB got injured.
Basically, they gave FSU a chance to show they were still nearly as good, but when you put out a bad performance against a bad Florida team and a bad offensive performance against Louisville, it shows, _on the field,_ they weren't the same team as before.

They won their games. Like I said, they turned it into a completely subjective beauty contest. FSU's defense would have kept them in a game with anyone in the CFP and there was enough NFL talent on offense to be dangerous. Florida was a rivalry game. Bama needs a miracle to win theirs against Auburn who was about as good as UF. FSU handled business.
The rings were regular season ACC Champions rings. Like Pate said…nobody cares about UGA beating up FSU’s practice squad.

That's a fact. It was a chance to beat the back to back champs and go claim the title of you want after that but nobody cared enough to play. They really let a great opportunity slip through they're hands.

As an FSU fan I respect Josh for being man enough to own what he said and also staying true to his honest opinion! Yea it sucked how we got snubbed but IT'S JUST A GAME AND Entertainment. What I don’t understand is how losing 63-3 in your last game of the season qualifies them to call themselves “unconquered.” I have no problem if the rings said “undefeated ACC champs,” but you can’t pretend the bowl game didn’t happen…unless you feel like bowl games are meaningless…UGA certainly didn’t think it was a meaningless game.
@greekben1 nah, bowl games are meaningless. At least not yet. But it's the school motto. I don't believe they're going to change it due to one game especially when it's intended to honor the fact the Seminole tribe was never conquered. It just means more than a sports team.

Josh, you and I have personally gone back and forth a couple of times in the comments section. As I have said many times I always respect your knowledge and passion for college football.

You often talk about the Blue Chip ratio and how many players are drafted from a team is one determination on how good a team really was.
Thus far Florida State has had six draft picks and that is right there with Alabama, Texas, Michigan, Washington, and Georgia.
So I'm a little confused by saying you don't believe differently when this particular metric that you so cherish is proving otherwise.
Oh well. Still a long time subscriber and will continue to be.

FSU deserved to be in, but so did the other 4 teams. Clearly there was a difficult decision to make. In the no-win situation, what better decision could the committee make than put the 4 teams it thought could actually win the playoff? Even based on merit, I think they made the right choice.
FSU lost its starting QB that was obviously head and shoulders above the other FSU QB’s. If UW would have lost Penix then UW would have been snubbed.
Knowing what we know now the only teams that could have beat Michigan where Bama and Georgia. Those where the only 2 teams that had the horses at the LOS and we saw what Michigan did to Bama.

I appreciate your honesty Josh. I still watch your show and respect you. It's sad that everyone throws a 63-3 at us but that wasn't FSU's team that went undefeated. Almost all our starters opted out. I am a Nole Alum and love Josh’s RUclips column, he has always been a straight shooter.
Every school has it's irrational fans. As an FSU alum, I know that last year is over, time to move forward. I for one have NO problem with anything Josh has said or thought, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Yes we got screwed, but this is life... the reality is it would have been near impossible to win the playoff if they had put us on there, deserving or not. Time to move forward! Josh keep up the good work!

The committee knew Saban was retiring and made a decision to get Bama in. That decision to leave out a P5 champion, crushed the players who then decided to opt out of the bowl game. Georgia lost their championship game and had no path to the playoff. Their players were not mugged by the establishment and decided to play the bowl game.
No hate, Josh. While I may not agree with all your takes-that's life-I'm a subscriber and love your content overall. KEEP DOING WHAT YOU DO! You just got caught in the timing of the issue, so when you changed your opinion, you were collateral damage. The grip is true with Kirk Herbstreit, who created the narrative even before our quarterback's injury. Then, when our defense played lights out, they continued to change their tune. I feel strongly that Norvell and staff have a "we will make a statement this year" type of mentality, and I'm ALL FOR IT! No complacency and our team will continue to disprove the false narrative by playing on the field and making the playoffs this year! GO NOLES!

I’m a 60 year old diehard Seminole fan. I love your show. I don’t know anyone who hates you, but we definitely disagree with you. I would argue at the end of last season FSU had the best defense in the entire country. I’m old school, and I still believe Defense wins championships! Using your own logic I would argue which one loss team had the best loss? Alabama got blown out at home by Texas. Texas got beat by Oklahoma. Georgia on the other had lost by 3 points in their conference championship game. They had won the last two championship games. If any one loss team deserved to be in the playoffs it should have been Georgia. FSU’s number one defense should have gone up against Michigan’s unstoppable offense, and Georgia should have played Washington. I still stand by my opinion. Turns out I was right!

Basically no one felt like FSU would have been higher than a 6 spot in the playoffs based on the abysmal late season performances, BUT everyone was really grimacing like ooo they did technically go undefeated and had a decent enough schedule uhhhh"
So IMO you were fortunate that what gets remembered is that you were wronged, not what very much could have been a 40 point embarrassment in the playoffs that really hurt your recruiting.
Don't really have a dog in the fight or care too much or little about FSU, but this was the general consensus among alot of SEC fans - it would be ugly if you got put in, or ugly if you get left out.
If you never served four flavored jello, it would mean green mint never makes it out of the box.
Bottom line .. they weren’t a top 4 with the QB healthy… and they certainly were not without him.. doesn’t matter that 15 starters sat out … Georgia had 15 in the portal .. but we’re still 5 deep every position,,, FSU wasn’t even two deep on the D line during the regular season.. the three best teams they beat had 10 losses between them… weak schedule weak conference says it all.. 63-3 was a beat down, UGA had Walk ons beating them senseless….

I’m fsu and love Josh. I called him out on his fsu flip flop which he later acknowledged and explained why his thoughts have changed. Respect. Pains me to say they got the 4 teams right. My problem was they never cared to get it right before. Years before it was based on merit. The committee couldn’t leave the sec out. There was definitely bias when compared to prior year selections. TCU should not have gotten in over Bama in 2022 (even though they beat Michigan) and Cincinnati should have gotten in over usc in 2022. The committee based it on merit those years.
I felt the same way about us in 22, but I took solace in how we took the XII Champion K State out behind the woodshed for a thorough whipping. The most disappointing thing IMHO for FSU was the players quitting on the team and leaving the walk ons to get raped by UGA. Fecal matter occurs though…
Maybe the committee will pay more attention to getting things right going forward.

2023 FSU did not lose a game and did not even get the chance to compete for a title over two 1-loss teams. All of these comparisons between teams who lost is completely irrelevant to what happened. How do you tell an undefeated team that there was no point to them even playing their season?

FSU fans are mad at Josh for NOT interviewing Mike Norvell when he was in Florida last week but instead interviewed Cristobal @ Miami for a 2nd time, Napier @ Florida and Gus Malzahn @ UCF. Mike has been the coach of FSU for 4 years, yet Josh has taken ZERO INTEREST in interviewing him. Josh also failed to acknowledge the COTY awards that Mike received last year such as the Bear Byranmt COTY, Bobby Dodd COTY and the ACC COTY. Mike was also a serious candidate for the Bama job. Josh mentioned none of these, but you know, damn well, Josh would NEVER do that to an SEC HC!
I'm sure Josh would want to interview Norvell. He probably wasn't interested. Alabama dodged a bullet when Norvell turned down the job😅

Here's the thing and im not a FSU fan but i will say the thing that sticks raw with me is that if it was the 4 best teams why wasn't Georgia in with Alabama and Alabama looked worse throughout the beginning of the year ?, if it was the most deserving why wasn't FSU in because they did everything, and if it was conference champions then FSU still should have gotten in so it feels like they saw Alabama win and knew they couldn't refuse them so they evaluated who made the most money sense to kick out and did that and gave Florida State Georgia to make sure they could always have a point of saying oh you lost to Georgia and lost your star player
Winning a conference is one of the committee's selection criteria, and there were 5 teams with an equal or better record than Georgia who won their conference.
Strength of schedule and availability of key players are also in their selection criteria, and the 4 teams who got selected blew FSU out of the water on both counts.
There is no mention of "deserving" in their criteria (you can look it up on their website, the page is CFP Selection Committee Protocol)
If the CFP wanted the 4 best teams those teams are, in any order you want:
Alabama
Georgia
Michigan
Ohio State (I would also accept Texas)
FSU is in the 10-15 range (not number 5)
If you want the 4 most deserving teams they are
1 Michigan
2 Washington (you could flip flop the top 2)
3 Florida State
4 Texas
CFP went right down the middle.
So you would accept Texas, but not the team that beat them? And OSU? Do you even watch the games? They had a mediocre QB and I'm being kind. Same for Bama last year, they weren't one of the four best teams when I they got beat up by Texas and needed a miracle to beat Auburn, they had no business being in the CFP. It should of been FSU at #3 and Texas at #4.

FSU's struggles began when Travis Jordan went down, the offense looked like trash the rest of the way continued to the bowl game and re emerged in the spring game. The defense has been holding it down not gone lie. But if Mike Norvell is the QB and offensive Guru fans claim he is i have not seen it After Travis Jordan. This year will be interesting to see if Mike is a real deal Coach or didTravis Jordan elevate his status the last few years. I got my popcorn ready.

Bama needed a miracle to beat crummy ass Auburn. Lost to Texas. Beat USF 17-3. Struggled with Arkansas. Was tied with LSU (whom FSU destroyed) until they took out Daniels with a dirty hit. Beat aTm who fired their coach by 6. Beat UGA but they got a VERY favorable call on a 4th catch that wasn't. Scores a TD. Pretty much gave them the game. Predictably lost to Michigan because they didn't belong.

Bama lost a game and should have lost against Auburn. Literally a last second miracle to win. There was a precedent set the previous year when a team lost their championship game to still put that team in. I still believe it ahould have heen Georgia and FSU. Georgia would have won the natty. FSU gameplan was to win it with wildcat and run the ball. Defense will wij the game. They wpuld have got all their talent nack from injuries and tate at qb. The games have to matter and they didnt. You not only put 1 1 loss team on but 2 1 loss teams in over an undefeated conference champ.

Given the committee’s inconsistency on the matter (2014 OSU was on their third string QB at the end of the season and still went to the CFP), FSU was undeniably hosed. The committee was just playing favorites (SEC obviously) as always.
OSU annihilated Wisconsin in the B1G championship. FSU limped past Florida and Louisville.

Josh gets a pass imo. Kirk Herbstreit can eat cat litter. However, IMO we should be directing our anger at the majority of the ACC for sucking ass at football and getting equal shares. What's their motivation to get better at football? None. Clemson FSU and NC have floated this deadbeat conference for decades.

While others have been screwed, none have been as egregious as FSU. They were the only undefeated power champion to be left out. They had the most P5 wins in the country. Went 2-0 against the mighty SEC with neither game at home. It literally sends the message that their season didn't matter because there was a more marketable TV roster. They got dropped for beating an SEC rival on the road by 9 and the CFP's #14 team by 10 in a championship game. It's illogical. The "CFP" is a business enterprise and not an actual sporting competition.
But yes, ESPN's involvement and direct influence over the CFP is blatant corruption. The fact that networks are now demanding they get a disproportionate number of automatic bids each year further demonstrates that corruption. The sport is openly about making money. It's not competition where champions are determined by results.

I see you clearly watched the whole video. And if you did and meant to say they got trounced then I’m sorry to say you’re not a College Football fan. Fans don’t just look at one team, they look at everything. That team that got smoked my Georgia wasn’t the FSU team. 29 players were out including every starter except I think 2 or 3. The backup QB let the coach/team know he wasn’t traveling and instead was going to transfer the day they left for Miami. FSU didn’t have and don’t have depth like Georgia. A top heavy team but once you take that away, you have average at best. The defense they had could’ve won then those playoff games. I’m not positive about the QB play but did the committee get it right? Probably so and that’s unfortunate. But don’t start this BS judging a team that had 29 players out (10 just got drafted by the way with another 3 that looks like they’re headed to practice squads), a couple starters played and they were missing the most important piece to the team who decided to quit after telling his coach he was going to play. Oh and he did this a few days before the game.
