I don’t know how you can say it’s going to take multiple years for Lynn have an above average defense at USC when he was able to take UCLA from an 87th ranked defense in 2022 to a top 10 ranked defense in 2023 with a top 2 run defense. All without major staff or player changes. And he did it starting in February.

Pate is saying and assuming the opposite of what’s being reported out there. Lynn installs his defense very slowly so no the staff did not meet and “throw everything at the players to learn” It’s weird that you’d so confidently report this while what has been factually reported is the exact opposite of how D’Anton coached at UCLA and how he has been confirmed to coach at USC. They don’t overwhelm the players, they keep it simple, so there is no overthinking on the field. UCLA went from to 88 to 11 in one year which is insane. If we break top 40-50 I’ll be super happy and that is a reasonable expectation.

Goodness you people are delusional. Take it from an Oklahoma fan who had to watch a complete rebuild after your coach gutted our program. Oklahoma brought in one of the best defensive minds in the history of college football and finally in year three he finally has the depth to compete with the big boys. Y'all think a simple change of staff and adding a couple good players means a huge turnaround which is insane considering your schedule and new conference. On top of all that didn't he still keep that ridiculous strength and conditioning Coach??

@TheBenzwanger no it is not insane because the majority of the B1G does not have good offenses. They have bad offenses. You going to be delusional and say Minnesota, Rutgers, Wisconsin, UCLA, Maryland and Nebraska are going to have elite offenses? The B1G doesn't even have any elite starting quarterbacks. Will Howard? Drew Allar? Alex Orji? Freshman Dylan Raiola? If Brent had to coach against those quarterbacks and those offenses, you'd be salivating over it. Also it's funny that you are still obsessed about USC considering I have seen you make comments for the last 2 and a half years and you still seem to be annoyed by anything that USC is doing to improve themselves. Sooner or later you are just going to forget about your team because you are so invested in watching USC clips because of your obsession and stupidity to make comments.

Lincoln Riley had to make changes, having wasted the tenure of Caleb Williams. But USC has had trouble with physical teams going back to the Pete Carroll era. They gave up 42 points to Fresno State in 2005 and were only saved because Reggie Bush (who FINALLY got his Heisman back!) had 513 total yards. They couldn't handle Quizz Rodgers and lost to Oregon State in 2006, then couldn't handle Stanford's power running game (lost to Tavita Pritchard in 2007, gave up 55 points to Toby Gerhart in '09.) They've consistently been unable to stop Utah. When Oregon had that Chip Kelly running offense USC couldn't stop it, not to mention giving up 43 and then 62 points to Arizona State. This has been an institutionalized USC problem for 20 years now, *not* just a Lincoln Riley thing.

Still starts from the top down. Weather that’s in the professional world or within a football program. Riley has said a lot of things that’s just BS. It knows it’s the right thing to say. Do we really think that making a defensive change was all on LR? Hell no. Whether the administration pushed as well as the fan base pushing for a change, I think there is plenty to offer historical facts that he may not have even made that change last year without getting g the outside pressure. He’s a narcissist and wanted to prove he could win with his Mike Leadh philosophy and the fact is he’s he could win but he never could win what everyone else o. The outside wanted. He has always had the “ I do t know why everyone is upset we won 11 games and won the Big 12 “ regardless of how bad his ass got new In the post season.
So I’ll see it when I believe it. Lar’s MOhas always been losing g guys that he gets commitments from early on in the process. Again those are tangible facts. Saying it’s going to be different is a complete guess. I’ll put my money on facts.
Take it from a 49 year old man. You don’t just completely change who you are and most don’t change at all. I’ll roll with the facts once again rather than something t we have never seen before. Again, things have to change from the top down and that means more than just some change in the staff.

1:50 "This USC defensive revolution is missing players" This is such a horrible take that I will disprove by listing the 2023 season PFF grades of every single starter on the USC defense. For reference, a PFF grade of 60 is considered average.
DL Bear Alexander: 64.2 overall grade; 64.9 run defense grade; 71.3 pressure grade
DL Nate Clifton: 67.4 overall grade; 72.9 run defense grade; 61.5 pressure grade
DE Braylan Shelby: 71.3 overall grade; 73.5 run defense grade; 72.8 pressure grade
DE Jamil Muhammad: 65.4 overall grade; 66.1 run defense grade; 72.8 pressure grade
LB Eric Gentry: 71.0 overall grade; 72.8 run defense grade
LB Easton Mascarenas-Arnold: 66.4 overall grade; 78.5 run defense grade
CB Jacobe Covington: 81.0 overall grade; 83.2 coverage grade; 70.7 run defense grade
CB John Humphrey: 79.0 overall grade; 77.8 coverage grade; 79.1 run defense grade
NB Greedy Vance Jr: 80.3 coverage grade; 77.0 run defense grade
S Akili Arnold: 80.3 overall grade; 85.7 coverage grade; 65.0 run defense grade
S Kamari Ramsey: 80.2 overall grade; 77.7 coverage grade; 83.8 run defense grade
As you can see, there is not a single starter on USC's CURRENT defense that has a below average grade not only overall, but also in the relevant subcategories. We also have an entire spring portal window to add more players. Do your homework Josh.

LR made defense look ok so he can gaslight fans all spring and summer. Then when LSU claps them cheeks he'll come with the same old tired "we're close" and "nature of the beast" gobble deegook smh USC will go 3-9 and miller will throw 20 picks 7 for 6

Here comes all the USC delusional cry babies! Hell, Brent Venables one of the best defensive minds in college football is still just now peeking in year three. And USC fans think because a simple staff change was made that they're going to have an elite defense this year with no depth somehow.

Yeahhhh. Even if you got this amazing staff which I don’t doubt usc has, it still takes at least 2 years to get a real turn around. That staff needs to get their players.

88 to 11 in one year at UCLA. Also, 55-19 is your so called elite coach when he was DC at Oklahoma. Your team will forever be our bitch.

@@Jid141that’s where we have to set what the proper expectations of “improvement” are. I’m an SC fan. They were in the 120s with total defense last season. USC fans that think they will turn around and be top 10 next season are delusional. However, if they can go from 125 to 45-50? That is a MASSIVE achievement; and more realistic.

Here’s your problem with this entire snarky attitude of yours. USC already had the elite athletes, obviously their last defensive coordinator or Lincoln Riley didn’t “Teach” or “Allow” tackling in practice. They took horrible angles to the ball carriers, and their defensive ends/outside linebackers were always losing contain. That is all COACHING!!!!! Then you later hear Grinch didn’t want his interior players putting on weight ( which it shows ) then he only played his favorites, keeping some of the top USC defenders off the field. So bringing in “Experienced” Transfer Portal additions in the secondary, and at linebacker, with who they have coming back, this defense is going to be vastly improved if not dominating. You have the coaching and experienced additions who are very good defenders, so you’re WAY off bro in your lack of optimism. Don’t even count the Spring Game, that defense was vanilla as hell, let’s see when they install the REAL defense. Let’s see how you’re talking 5 games into the season.

Josh you are literally comparing Iowa to a blue blood program & also trying to make it seem like Lincoln Riley is some run of the mill coach this is SC you are speaking of but
Hate if UR gg 2 hate Reggie Bush
Had HIS! Heisman Trophy now only if they returned our vacated victories which never should have happened in the first place the other return all of our scholarships as well but Josh I'm a little disappointed in you but!
    USC's all -time record vs B1G 69-10
    Enough said!
