I get what you are saying but it did matter. It mattered that we won the division with those wins. It mattered that people are finally putting respect on the Canucks name again. Yes the Oilers won the series (and congrats by the way) but Oilers fans have been so disrespectful saying the Canucks have no chance that we would get swept in the playoffs.
I have seen these comments that Edmonton would sweep the Canucks, both times i saw them they where coming from Sportsnet crew and podcasters. Toronto fans trying to get Edmonton and Vancouver fans at each others throats.
I saw a lot of Oilers fans who did respect our team and said we would get swept or easily lose in 5. But that doesn't represent the whole fan base.
Haven't seen much discussion about the effect of the Kuzmenko trade on Petersson and the Canucks. they were 33--11 before the trade and and 17-12 after. Their power play went from 25% to 18%. Kuzmenko caught fire and scored 17 points in last 11 games and he gave the Canucks that swagger and was a player defenses had to focus on even during his early season struggles. Lindholm never fit in and couldn't provide that swagger, Petey missed Kuzmenko.... bad trade cost the Canucks a chance at the cup, why fix something that ain't broke!
That is a great question. I am hoping to answer that in the weeks to come. I think it's bigger than just looking at the point totals but what did they bring to the team. I love Kuzmenko but Tocchet did not
@@kempnercanucks maybe Tocchet and management were wrong. Why fix something that ain't broke? Kuzmenko scored a goal against the Rangers that very few in the NHL could score....Tocchet should have left him alone on the top line and let him cook which he finally did at the end of the season. The power play fell off the cliff after the trade just like their record....too much of a coincidence for me, I'm a numbers guy!
@@bradybashers You know what, you might be right...maybe they were wrong. But again when you have Kuzmenko who is a liability defensively and who's making $5.5M a year for this year and next year you have to ask yourself the big questions. Now I want you to know that I'm a huge Kuzmenko fan and that I think that trade was a mistake but the way Lindholm produced in the playoffs might say that I'm wrong.
@@kempnercanucks its a good question, but I think the Canucks missed Kuzmenko's skill on the power play, his ability to get in the zone and make plays as well as shoot the on-timer. He and Petersson had good chemistry. It was obvious Tochhet was getting frustrated with the defensive side and the Canucks were a much tighter defensive team after the trade but it was a lack of scoring chances and an inept power play that did them in. Numbers don't lie! Panarin is a defensive liability for the Rangers but they work around it....his plus/minus is lagging behind guys like Kreider but they won't trade him cause he's a great weapon especially on the power play. Canucks messed this one up!

Watch once mikayev is under another coach. The jets will turn on and you will see a 10 ,15 goal scorer in first 2 years with a different org if placed in top 6 somewhere. Preferably the wild or who knows. Maybe Calgary after next year for a cool 2.5 million
It's possible but who knows. IMO he should be on the 4th line.
As hard on Vancouver fans as this is , the leafs fans have died again hating on the oilers ....
Why do the Leafs hate the Oilers? That makes no sense to me.
Petterssons play is questionable. He's played like a 4million center from the deadline on. Hronek and him need to be moved. 11.6 for that effort is ridiculous.
What do you think we could get for Pettersson?
Canucks blew this. These chances may not come again. Just look at Oilers. Few passengers have to go. Personal changes are needed and PP needs to improve drastically.
You are right...we blew our chance. But we made drastic changes last year. I'm assuming there will be a lot of changes this season too.
