McCord's arm / throwing was the least of his issues. Actually his throwing wasn't even an issue at all. The guy could sling it. His issues were his decision making, his pocket awareness, and his inability to be even the slightest bit mobile, and still that's they guy that had this Ohio State team 6 points away from a perfect regular season. In fact, his poor decision making was the actual, literal difference in that game in Ann Arbor. ONE errant throw was the difference. If Will can just do two things: make better decisions than Kyle and pick up yards in situations that were normally a loss or no-gain down last year, it'll be gravy. It's hard to tell how his skills will translate to better skill around him, though. What I like about Will is that in the games they won, like that B12 championship game, he didn't particularly stand out as the reason they won that game. He got the ball to playmakers who made plays, and that's all he needs to be for OSU. And in the games they lost, he wasn't the reason they lost.

They were arguably 6 points away from winning a title last year where a mistake from McCord let them down. Now they are bringing back everybody in a top 2 defense from last year and added a key top national safety. Will is not the savior, he is but one good piece in a series of high level moves. Either OSU or mich would have won the natty last year. It was the defacto NC. Not sure why this is so hard to follow for you. After two decades of the ball bouncing OSUs way, it bounced um's way. @@avi7278 Don't forget the Buckeyes did not have Treveyon Henderson in the matchup with Michigan two years ago which made their offense very pass-heavy in the 2022 matchup. After awhile, all Michigan had to do was drop back in zone-coverage and the OSU offense couldn't move very well. If Henderson had played, could have made a significant difference. He certainly made a major difference in 2023 match-up, which was lost by Kyle McCord's lousy decision making.

I'm a K-State fan but after any other Big12 school, I'm hoping that Ohio State wins it all this year (with Will Howard taking snaps). Will Howard has so much more talent to work with now at Ohio State. The split from K-State was better for both parties. K-State is best with running QBs that can throw as our run game opens up the pass game. Will Howard is still a very capable runner but Avery is a crazy agile runner. That said, Ohio State has so much talent at WR they don't need to rush game to open up the pass game. Will is going to have all the tools and resources he could dream of. As long as he doesn't get too over confident Will should be great. Will had nothing to lose when he played in 2022 and had an amazing year. Will came out probably over confident in 2023 and had a rough start but towards the end of the season Will was a machine.

People keep forgetting the main reason why McCord was not worse then he was last year was because he was throwing to MHJ, Egbuka, Stover and even Henderson out of the backfield. There at least 5-6 throws McCord made last year that should have been interceptions and at least 2-3 plays a game that if McCord had just read the defense completely, he could have thrown a touchdown. Howard brings more mobility and experience to the team and will have the same type of good targets to throw too as McCord did. Howard is absolutely a step-up from McCord.

Kansas St offense. A QB is only as good as the other 10 players on the field example look at Josh Allen college stats and most would agree he turned out ok

I don't take much stock in that while I don't think Will is great you have to look at the whole picture of what the system does for a QB example if Penix stays at Indiana is he a first round Pick or a late round. After all Brady was a 6th and a 7th started in a Super Bowl. Good QB can look bad in bad systems just look at all the First round bust in last 20yrs
I think as long as he’s half decent, he’ll do just fine overall. Plenty of gifted receivers in the room at OSU. Plus from what I hear, he has legs, which is an upgrade from McCord in and of itself.

I didn't like how a lot of Buckeye fans treated McCord. He was OK, limited mobility and pocket presence at times. But the kid got too much hate. I think his boring personality turned a lot people against him.
Nobody is questioning his running ability, but with almost a 50/50 TD to INT ratio I'm concerned. Even with the best QB, WRs, and RBs we couldn't get it done. Our main concern is our O-line that hasn't changed. I hope he's not Jaimis Winston 2.0, he'd move the ball up and down the field with ease, but end the drive with a pick.
Man Texas was playing with a back up qb and he threw 2 interceptions and we lost a fumble, he didn’t do zip in the first half when we didn’t turn it over
What’s interesting to me is I think I’ve seen it the other way around in that Will Howard is being spoken of very highly across most of the media. I don’t quite see all this consternation being levied towards Will Howard. Will Howard I think will be exactly what he was at KSU. An above average QB but not someone that is elite. The thing with CFB is the WR is more important than the QB as long as the QB operates the system he’s given which is exactly what Howard will do at Ohio State.

Will Howard was 42 of 50 scoring TDs in the Redzone. Thats why both Lincoln Riley and Ryan Day wanted him. Ohio State was 32 of 50 for reference
That was due to our running game and O-line, which is still a concern. Hopefully, Chip can change that, I'm still out deliberating on Frye.

That said, Ohio State has so much talent at WR they don't need to rush game to open up the pass game. Will is going to have all the tools and resources he could dream of. As long as he doesn't get too over confident Will should be great. Will had nothing to lose when he played in 2022 and had an amazing year. Will came out probably over confident in 2023 and had a rough start but towards the end of the season Will was a machine.

People keep forgetting the main reason why McCord was not worse then he was last year was because he was throwing to MHJ, Egbuka, Stover and even Henderson out of the backfield. There at least 5-6 throws McCord made last year that should have been interceptions and at least 2-3 plays a game that if McCord had just read the defense completely, he could have thrown a touchdown. Howard brings more mobility and experience to the team and will have the same type of good targets to throw too as McCord did. Howard is absolutely a step-up from McCord.

I don't take much stock in that while I don't think Will is great you have to look at the whole picture of what the system does for a QB example if Penix stays at Indiana is he a first round Pick or a late round. After all Brady was a 6th and a 7th started in a Super Bowl. Good QB can look bad in bad systems just look at all the First round bust in last 20yrs
I think as long as he’s half decent, he’ll do just fine overall. Plenty of gifted receivers in the room at OSU. Plus from what I hear, he has legs, which is an upgrade from McCord in and of itself.
