- We got a call we were not expecting "my Jeep started rolling and I can't see it anymore". We knew that was a BAD deal! If it went off the cliff it was going to be destroyed, and it was. See the whole story unfold on this episode of MERUS Adventure Park.
Saw the recovery live on Saturday! Best park ever. Fascinating story. I always put the e-break on top of turning the Jeep off
Thank you! Putting the e brake on is a great habit!
I'm really impressed that the high voltage battery pack appears to be well protected and intact. I'm sure Jeep engineers will be taking a close look at this one.
We couldn't believe that the battery pack stayed in tact and remained safe. Well done @Jeep!
As a Jeep jk owner I’m also impressed the battery pack didn’t explode.
"...your insurance is going to take care of it." LOL
Unfortunately the insurance cost will be double the cost of the 4xe.
Its salvageable. Everything will be okay.
Great video! Our group was there over the weekend and watched part of the recovery such a monumental task!
It was a huge undertaking with many challenges. It took up 17 hrs with a whole team.
Bet the view of his jeep rolling forward and going off the edge of the cliff will be memorable
Like basic safety rules for guns, there are basic rules for parking. #1 is do not ever have your vehicle pointed down the fall line. Even a small hill on a public street, turn your wheel into the fall line. And as Dirk said, Put it in Park, apply brake and turn off. Glad everyone was OK.
Solid rules!
How was your camping trip? I don't want to talk about it!
Id tell ya but the ending is a bit of a cliffhanger
If I owned a 4xe, I'd leave it in Neutral and let it roll off a cliff too.
It'll buff right out.
I'm pretty sure it won't. Lol
These campsites look amazing. If you haven’t shown them in videos you definitely need to.
We definitely need to do a video about the campsites, they are spectacular. Especially at sunrise and sunset.
@@merusadventure are the campsites open all year?
Hell of a way to learn a lesson. Always use the ebrake. In automatic transmissions it helps protect the integrity of the transmission locking pin and in manuals pretty much same thing, helps protect your gear blades.
Expensive lesson!
Eh, insurance. It's the inner voice and letting yourself down that eats at you. Been there, 90k negligent mistake.@@merusadventure
Good thing that he’s Ok Campsite F is our favorite spot we stayed away from the cliff with our vehicle to sketchy 🤙🏾
It is an amazing site!
Can't wait to see the rest of the story :-)
It gets really good!
Call Matts Offroad Recovery!
You guys would make a great pairing on a RUclips video to pull it up the cliff!!
Our STAGE5 Off Road crew got it up, it was a huge effort though.
That would have been cool to work with Matt though!
Poor Jeep... Glad the owner's OK but damn, that's gotta SUCK :(
What a gorgeous place though, I wish it was closer... I'm all the way in Montreal. Farthest I went Jeeping so far is the Ouray area in Colorado...
Ouray is one of our favorite spots! It's worth a visit to MERUS though :)
@@merusadventure Oh I'm definitely putting it on my Jeeping wishlist :)
It'll be one hell of a trip though. The last one made for a fun video and I'd certainly love to do this sort of trip again :)
My 2 y.o. is still a wee bit too small for such a big trip though. But soon!
“Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it.”
Jeff Spicoli
I overland and while it's not a Jeep, I can only half-imagine what the owner was feeling watching it go over the side. Sheesh. Gut wrenching.
My brother did the same thing two years ago.
Got distracted, left his truck in neutral (manual) with no emergency brake.
Gravity and a small decline rolled it into a canal.
ohh no!
Pro tip: Come to stop, into N, engage Ebrake to hold rig, then into P.
I cringe when i see automatic trans drivers pull up to stop, slam it in park and watch it roll back and forth on the parking pauls. Being raised around manuals and in the mountains, your tip is the way of life :D
Transfer case might have been in neutral.
Facebook market would be like slightly used small accident asking $20,000
Leave it, call that place Jeep canyon. 😊
Who EVER puts ANY vehicle in neutral and then gets out on ANY terrain, let alone on the edge of a cliff. My every instinct would be to secure this vehicle in every way possible. This looks too suspicious too be anything other than intentional and I'm betting his insurance company would/will agree.
O man. I was there a few years ago with E3 camping. It’s absolutely beautiful. Hope to be there again soon but in a gladiator this time. So sorry to hear about this. I bet he is devastated. That has to hurt. I forgot to chalk my trailer ONCE and it rolled fwd and off the stand, took a nose dive into the gravel. Bring some chalks, use your Ebrake. Safety first. Go slow there is no hurry. Hope all turns out ok for him.
Good idea! Hope to see you again this year!
Just subscribed! I’m planning on doing one of your event run.
Awesome! Excited to have you come visit the park!
I’m thankful no one got hurt and environmental damage was nill😊
Did insurance cover the cost of recovery and cleanup?
Looking forward to the next video!!
The next one is going to great, we had help filming it!
PARKING BRAKE! I have made a habit of using my P brake every time I get out of my truck and it's an automatic.
Have a Wrangler 4xe and a Fiat 500e. Both vehicles are easy to forget about what gear your in and wether it is turned off. I have gotten into the habit of pulling the e-brake when ever I park. The 500e immediately shifts to park as soon as door opens. Love both vehicles and haven’t really seen complaints about them so I suspect it was just a dumb mistake. This is how most accidents happen.
Yep thats gonna take Heavy D Sparks and Matts Off-road recovery…. Together…
Glad nobody got hurt.
Our STAGE5 team got it out, but it was a big undertaking. Next vid :)
I was thinking of that combo recovery they did while watching this.
That was my suggestion, but as videos would have it - we are at least a week too late with the information.
Skinny jeans, trendy jacket, basketball hightops, cap.... I can tell you right now with 100% certainty this was NOT insurance fraud. This owner has the clear indications of growing up without a father and they clearly had absolutely no idea what they were doing. It was probably their first time even driving on a dirt road. I will put $100 they parked right on the edge of the cliff for IG photos with complete ignorance to what could happen.
I bet that hike back up was fun Dirk😂😂
I did it about 6 times in 3 days 🤣
No fire or smoke, that's good. I wonder if there was some kind of smoke happening before it rolled down the cliff?
I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS put my jeep in Neutral, engage the hand brake Then put the gear in Park. Then engine shut down. Hope his insurance covers it.
As it rolled off the cliff that would have been an awesome you tube video
For sale: 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4XE. Needs some work. $20,000 firm I know what I have. Salvage title.
I live on flat land, and i still don't leave things in neutral.
Their insurance should have denied them coverage.
glad the owner is ok. jeep can be replaced. granted it was left in N by accident, i'm curious how much incline is the spot where he parked and start unloading. idid he really parked at the very edge for sure (where you and the guy were standing 3:07) because from what i can see from where you stopped and met the guy, seems flat to me and there's plenty of room. i might be wrong. but insurance will definitely take a look on this and investigate. looks sus but i'll give benefit of the doubt on this one. hope he had gap.
This seems very suspicious to me. If this legitimately happens to my 392, I would get another……wonder if he will get another 4xe?🤔
It’s just a vehicle, the most important thing is thank God no one was in the vehicle!!!!!!!!!!
It is really easy to leave that vehicle in Run mode because there’s no annoying engine running noise.
Great job getting it out. Should have called Heavy D from Sparks Motors. He has a bunch of HD equipment, and a chopper. He is always up for for a challenge.
Thankfully nobody was hurt. Thanks for addressing that early. 👍
That thumbnail pic looked really bad.
We are so thankful that no one got hurt!
Captain Obvious here: Did you see how well the interior space was left for the most part intact? Gives me a ton of confidence in that someone could have actually survived that roll.
We found parts over 150 feet out sideways from the wreckage, I cant see that anyone would have stayed in the jeep, if someone were in there they would have been flung out violently. Just thankful no one was in it.
Standard seatbelts do not keep your upper body in place side to side, only front to back. This accident would be fatal to anyone inside as your head bounced off the rocks.
Ya always double down secure it before exiting ... Like engine off in gear parking brake on...
You forgot the set the parking break. In park alone the entire weight of the vehicle is supported by a parking paw thin steel part in the transition. these have failed before. your parking break is what you need to set.
Great point, this needed to be mentioned. Best to set the parking brake before even putting it in park when on uneven terrain.
If im in a area like that first the E brake is set and see if it holds in neutral than into park. After that chock the front wheels with rocks. The hell with going over a cliff !!
I once worked with a girl who parked her 4wd pick up on the hill leading to her house and did this same thing with same results. The ins. Co paid for a new truck, and after about 6 months she did the same thing. Her soon to be ex. told me later that when she did it the 2nd time, he basically knew they were over. Boy, was he ever disgusted. Sad.
Insurance doesn't cover driver negligence. This could have, and should have been avoided. I think this should be a learning experience for all you inexperienced Jeepers or anyone going off-road. Never get out of your vehicle unless you know your vehicle is in park with the emergency brake on. I'm glad nobody was hurt, or killed. This really just feels like an insurance scam. He was probably having buyers remorse, and trying to figure a way out of paying for an electric Jeep.
Seems it'd be cheaper to buy a for sale sign. 😂
Truth is nobody actually wants them
This was me and my husband's thought as well...possible insurance scam
When will the recovery video be available.
Aiming for this Tuesday.
some drivers, no matter how long they have been driving, have never used the e brake also called the parking brake. It is there for a reason. Dont ask me how I know.
It is a park pin not a kickstand. Use the hand break on any incline always.
HEY NOW, STAND BACK.... if Hollywood has taught me anything that jeep still needs to Explode in a giant fireball after going off a cliff.... as is tradition.
I'm surprised that hasn't happened before. I know in the Canyons out west, it was pretty common to see totaled cars way down in them that were just left. Thanks for the video. But in the future, would it be possible to not have the dramatic music playing so much? It gets annoying after a while LOL
First thing in drivers training put vehicle in park. Set the brake. Epic fail.
Shit is scary. It would have been very easy to have some passengers in there when it went off.
Insurance pays for a jeep that goes of a cliff while offroading? I'm just curious.
If the hippies get upset about the mess just tell them it was hybrid.
The environmental impacts of hybrids always get a pass.
Gotta admit, I’m surprised the thing still has four wheels attached.😮
A 4xe? Not even gonna lie, I would've been happy. 😂
How did the Jeep get left in neutral with auto park?
Easy to bypass. If the drivers side door harness is disconnected auto park will not engage. Maybe the owner had it disconnected previously? 🤷♂️
That’s horrible. Glad no one is injured. Hope clean up goes well.
If my Jeep is in 4wd disables auto park.
Honestly seems kind of sus to me. I'll admit, I have forgot mine was in drive before and it will not drive with the door open, which kind of drives me nuts. Never while wheeling or camping though. Who puts it in Neutral on purpose and gets out? Glad everyone is ok.
@@faithfilledadventures it doesn’t have to be in neutral. Just leaving an automatic in gear and shutting it off in 4wd will allow it to roll.
I do leave mine running and in netrual when I get out to find a geocache, Mine always gets the park brake. Glad no one was hurt, but just how do you leave a crapomatic in netrual. Bet that was an interesting call to insurance.
was nice of the banana peel to stick around to see the damage it caused...
Drive a standard, you always use the parking brake.
Wow, attention to detail went out the window on this one...
This has me rethinking my choice of campsite for next month!
The RIM sites are spectacular. Just your vehicle park and set the handbrake! Then you can take in the amazing views
That’s one way to get out of payments. Take all your stuff out first, ‘forget to park it’, and let insurance gap it.
I see the line. Hit the clutch and Sendit. Stay passenger side. #TexasOffroadAdventures 😂
is that some special 'car over the cliff' insurance they have there?
I hate when that happens. I can't imagine how my gut would be or how dumb and --- I would feel. Memories
Also set the parking brake!.. Never rely on just being in park…
Looks like you could have used an Erickson S64 to haul that out of there.
Hello, we are a jeep parts manufacturer from Maiker. We would like to talk with you about more details. How can I contact you?
I have had that netting catch on my boot lace lugs. Total pIA
Wow glad no one was in it
That “dramatic trailer music” needs to be used more sparingly. Also video could use more editing. Repeated too many times “there’s a lot of debris” and “we’re concerned about the battery”
Chinook helicopter --- lift it right out….
This was amusing. People need to atone for their mental deficiencies🤣
Homie realized he wanted a Bronco…what to do with this Jeep?
Call HeavyD Sparks and he will be able to help you out. Either with his helicopter or wrecker. The other person that would be able to recover the Jeep - RUclips channel Florida Off Road Recovery. He just moved to Arkansas, but if you watch any of his recoveries they all take place in Florida. He has the expertise, knowledge and the equipment to make the recovery happen. Why would he leave it in neutral? Definitely worry about the possibility of a fire starting.
Maybe it slipped on the banana peel? 🤷♂️
Older gentleman left his jeep 4xe in Neutral and it rolled off the cliff. Foot was stuck in a net and he got distracted.
What’s a veekle?
always that one guy...🤦♂
Sorry, couldn’t help myself😂. Looking forward to the recovery of that veekle. You’ve got your work cut out for you! Subscribed.
Would his insurance actually cover this? It was my understanding the most insurance companies have a specific clause for off road use, that they dont cover damage.
I have a rzr converted to legal highway use in Michigan. My insurance specially states its fully covered on highways and offroad. It definitely isn't cheap!!
50% chance the insurance will deny the claim. The owner will have to hire a lawyer to fight it!!
"Its a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand"
I think it's totaled.
Dang! Thank goodness people or animals were not in it.
Sling load it??
Four by EEEEEE!
E-Brake?
Pulled up to the site and somehow it got left in neutral.
Only time & place a Jeep should be in neutral & running is at the bougee carwash
that'll buff out
Was it a manual?
Call Matt Armstrong, he can fix it back up! LOL!
just a flesh wound. brush it off drive it back up
You should be happy it settles real flat and resting down there!
Y’all need Matt’s Off Road Recovery! Haha!
@MattsOffRoadRecovery How would y'all tackle this job? Reminds me of a few y'all have done.
You need to keep some rappel gear in your jeep to get up and down the cliff sides.
Time to call Heavy D
