Joe! Thank you ,Thank You , Thank You, for posting this! Dick was my dear old friend. He had bought an airplane from where I worked at the Fresno airport and through the years we became friends. I have played this Strat. We sat in his living room and swapped guitars. It is the original 61 that Leo Fender gave him, and the one in the Beach Blanket movies. The low E string is a 60 gauge, and the neck is like holding a tree. He turned my Strat upside down and did mean things to it! Lol He laughed at my lite gauge strings. He signed my guitar and I still have it. To anyone who loves Jimi Hendrix, Thank Dick! He was Jimi’s inspiration and friend. He encouraged Jimi to step out from behind Little Richard’s bass and do his own thing. Dick was full of life and gave every show his all. Rest In Peace my friend!
I used to work at a place that made cables for Dick Dale. I still have my autographed picture from him framed and hanging on my wall. He was a great guy...
Let's Go Trippen is the classic of all time. After 64 years it still brings chills when I hear it. Growing up in Orange County in the early 60's there was no one bigger than Dick Dale. RIP
Joe....Wife and I will be at the MHOFAM Friday, July 9th....Hope to see you then! Second visit for us and would not miss it for the world while in Nashville. Attending the Chet Atkins Convention at the Sheraton......
Don’t get there too early to see me… I’m always in around 2:00…. Still have musician hours in my blood… just can’t get up till the crack of noon:)… best….Joe
I'm a lefty, started out with a right hand guitar restrung, and later got standard left hand model, but never in a million years would have considered Dick Dale's reversed version... it blows my mind!
Hi Bruce.. yes.. Charlie was inducted that evening… maybe will put his performance up soon too… Standing next to Charlie was Roy Orbison‘s producer friend Foster who was also inducted as producer that night. You can almost see most of TOTO standing there too….. Best, Joe
Dale was the real deal! His music was extremely challenging to me in the early 1960s. Even The Beach Boys thought to cover his songs. There never has been nor will there ever be another Duck Dale, “King of the Surf Guitar.” Thank you, Joe for honoring this great musician. An original, a trailblazer..and a badass guitar player.
I was fortunate enough to see Dick play in a small club in San Francisco a few years before this was recorded. The show was amazing. For a few numbers, like Miserlou, he played the trumpet parts as well. It's a shame his later albums didn't get the notice they deserved.
Amazing performance. He is so articulate despite the wild playing, there's no mistakes or chromatic runs to find the notes (ala Junior Brown, though I love him too). RIP Dick.
Joe the quality of the product that you consistently deliver is matched by very few. I would like to say thank you for all the hard work in preserving and displaying the sound track of my life.
many years ago when theaters would have coming attractions and news reels they would play surf music between them. Some of the most searing guitar I have ever heard. Love Dicks work as well
Noticed his upside down strings...so incredible. And the Kempo decal. I wonder if he studied karate or just had it on there because Elvis had one on a couple of his guitars. Always loved his music and the surf sound. Thanks for sharing Joe 👍🏻😎
I went and saw Dick & his son here at the Jersey Shore in 2012. He wasn’t as mobile like he was here but boy that guitar tone never flinched. Really sad that he had to work so hard right up until the end due to all his medical bills. Great post as usual, Joe!!!
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum you sir have one of the best narrated videos ever. Keep up the awesome work and please stay healthy. We want you around for more.

I just want to congratulate you on the hundred thousand sub content, I've been here since the beginning so I will miss the family tightness and the ability of you answering our feedback, no way it's gonna be possible for you to do that now , great video today but just want to show my appreciation for the channel and memories of all the artist you have shared with us
Thanks Bruce…. I really appreciate your kind thoughts. They started telling me months ago that I’d hit 100,000 subscribers and it would be a big deal. Well… I certainly appreciate it but my back still hurts and traffic is still terrible driving into to downtown everyday but I’m optimistic. You know a hundred thousand record sales was nothing … you had to hit a million for platinum and at least 500,000 for gold. RUclips is different:)…. I’m just kidding… thank you very much for supporting our channel… it truly means a lot to me that you guys are enjoying it… Sincerely, Joe
Hey pmoore4……. Glad you’re enjoying them. Honestly I thought I was running out two months ago but we keep digging deeper in the vault and squeezing something out. Seriously I think we are getting extremely low now. Thankfully the Covid seems to be over just as all the vault videos are about to run dry. The Vault Series came about just to fill in during the Covid 19 thinking it would be over in a month or two. We had no idea it would last as long as it did and I just lost count of all the interviews I did by myself with one camera for so many years. Thankfully people are feeling like doing new interviews again now in person sitting across the table from each other. I refused to do the interviews by internet by video screens. So sterile. I decided to wait until we could meet in person again. Thanks for your support…. Best…Joe
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum I honestly think the MHFM channel is one of the best on RUclips. I really appreciate the diversity. I got Brent Mason and The King of the Surf Guitar in one day. I also started thinking about all the "off the record" stories you must have heard over the years. I guess they got left on the cutting room floor where they belong. Have a good one.
Fantastic as always Joe, this was excellent. And I see you’ll be getting that Play Button in the mail pretty soon. A much deserved congratulations to you Sir. It’s a helluva thing you’ve done with MHOF. I’ve learned and enjoyed so much here. Fabulous!
That was amazing Joe! I mean how does one play a guitar left handed & upside down & backwards? I'm dumbfounded! Hope that all is well down your way..... 👍👍😉😉
Honestly I think a lot of left handers start that way and stay with it because it's how they learned - if they only had access to a standard guitar to begin with. Of course not all end up as good as Dick Dale!!!
Some great surf guitar there. Another lefty playing a right-handed guitar upside down. The others are of course the great Albert King and the phenomenal Eric Gales. These great players obviously get used to playing a guitar with the strings reversed. Thanks Joe as always.

Do you ever verify the content you put out in RUclips videos? You may want to consider doing so to protect your credibility. For instance in this video of Dick Dale, Dale contend he met Mr. Leo Fender in 1954 and at that time Mr. Fender created a special jig to make a left handed Strat guitar for Dale. If that is so why is it the Strat Guitar that Dale performs with made in 1960-61? I know it’s a 60-61 because I was around when he got it. Fender was making left-handed Strat guitars in 1954, for instance one of the first is numbered 7206, many thereafter. Someone told me Steve Segal has one made in 56? The truth of the matter is Dale never met Feder until my cousin took him up to the Fullerton shop in 1960, maybe around Thanksgiving time in 1959 when I was working there part time while attending CSF. I was a nobody there, my job was just cleaning up the place at night. Most of the employees were Mexican or white guys from the south. My cousin played with Dale at the Prison of Socrates down in Newport and he asked me if I had any connections at Fender to get him a discount for an amp. One day I took him up to the shop and Dale was tagging along. A couple months later my cousin told me Mr. Fender loaned him some gear and Dale got jealous and wanted in on the hand-outs.

Awesome memory.
Come on man, Hendrix was playing a six string guitar long before playing with Richard.
Just another fairy tale uttered by the King of BS, Dick Dale.
It's a late '59 model Strat though, isn't it?

His last performance was at The Rhythm Collision in downtown Riverside, California. he gave it Hell, and the crowd loved him for it.
Dick Dale, a left-handed player who never reversed his strings unlike Hendrix who, it figures, could play both ways.
Great post.....I was going to say something like this, so I'm glad someone else knows enough to acknowledge his ability to play this way.
