Dick bought an airplane from where I worked at the Fresno airport. It was a former Air Force Academy Cessna T41 Sky Hawk.
We were friends for many years.
We would sit on his sofa and swap Strats, tell stories and play surf music. He would tease me about the light gauge strings on my guitar. This Strat is the original 61 that Leo Fender gave him, and the one that was in the all “ The Beach” movies. He had another Strat with mother of Pearl and gold hardware that was so pretty he was afraid to play it for fear of “tearing it up” , but he insisted I play it.
I still have mine that he played and signed. I still miss him greatly, and his sweet wife Lana is having a tough time dealing with his passing. He was one of a kind, and a true force of nature.
    Rest easy my friend.🎸🙏

Yes! Beauty and the Beast were the names of his gold strats.
Dick played the beast, Beauty was just for looking at :)

Dick Dale is a legend and should be inducted into the hall of fame.

Agree 100% . Unfortunately The RRHOF doesn't acknowledge the Surf Rock era from 1961-1964

Yeah, it's such a joke, even though those of us who love music wish it meant something, and Dick Dale would be in it

Dick Dale's last performance was at The Rhythm Collision music festival in downtown Riverside, California. Very fitting as he was a regular performer at the Riverside Armory in the early 1960s.

I hate that I'm truly JUST finding out about Dick Dale. I've heard some of his music, more than just Miserlou.. but never was able to figure out that "surf style"
SO STOKED to find this at 33. This came out when I was 14.
That whole interactive section in the beginning is SO SICK. This performance is phenomenal.
    RIP LEGEND! 🫡

Underrated and overlooked. Copied by many.

He had that unique style and sound about him that was often imitated but never duplicated. He was one of a kind. There will never be another like him.

I must've seen him around this time in London. IIRC he played a cornet rather than the trumpet and pretty much guitar at the same time. I could really hear where X-Ray-Spex got their sound from.

Dick Dale was/is my all time favorite guitar player. I still have his voicemail on my phone, how many people can say that? This looks like a great concert, I am just curious why there is no "Misirlou" in the set list.

Dick Dale was told at age 28 that he had colon cancer and would most likely die within the next two years, Jimi Hendrix said that when Dick Dale died then it's the end of surf rock luckily Dick Dale lived to age 81 RIP 🤘
