I definitely agree with your advice. On New Years in Thailand the elephant tour I wanted to go with was fully booked. At first I was crushed because I had researched the place ahead of time and was afraid that they were the only ethical no riding elephant park in Chaing Mai. However, the nice lady at my hostel recommended another one when I explained how important the welfare of the animals was to me. It was an amazing experience; we fed them, bathed them in a waterfall, and gave them a mud spa. And to top it all off, it cost 1/3 of what my original choice did, so I used the leftover money for more excursions. It was the Elephant Nature Park, in case anyone wanted to know, great place!

thank you for this! I was really concerned about the state of the places with no ethical assurances.

Totally needed to hear this. I'm trying to find that golden zone between having a well-structured month in Thailand and an overly-planned month.

Being flexible is the best way to travel. I really never like making plans if I don't have to...that includes life in general. Being flexible means less stress :) Loved your video. Hugs Melody

How come you guys didn't hire a car yourselves and explore New Zealand? Soooo many free/super cheap campsites to stay at :)
We spent 5 days waiting to be able to do Great White Shark Cage Diving on the South Island but having a car just meant we could shoot up to Te Anau and Mildford Sounds, instead of hanging about in Bluff waiting to be able to do it and wasting time!

+Stacey Madden We couldn't afford to get a care for 2 months so we are using the bus and hiring cars in certain places! We wish we could have a car the whole time!

+PsychoTraveller ahhh okay fair enough, 2 months of hiring would work out pretty expensive... petrol is a killer over there too! :\
