I agree about learning a bit of the language. My husband did not speak Spanish AT ALL when I took him to Spain to visit our family (& honeymoon we finally took after 5 years of being married). In 3 weeks he picked up so much interating with my family & just seein menus & signs. Younger people pick up languages a bit easier I think. He was already in his 30s so I was really proud of him :) Something I learned was that I didn't need to bring all the extra food. The time before I went in 1987 they did not have so many places to stop and eat off the highway like they did the last time we were there. I ALWAYS carry tissue or paper towels in my pockets..no matter where I am...even here in the USA. So many places run of out of TP or you sneeze or need to wipe a table off, etc. :) Little individual handi-wipes are nice to have in your pockets (just in case) and they don't take up much space. Very good video! I am leaving on a 4 month trip across the U.S., Europe and beyond - in just over a week! It will be the first big trip that I have taken, and I still can't picture myself actually walking around in Morocco and Spain and Istanbul and such places! The language barrier is definitely a big concern for me. I wouldn't go so far as to say that I have anxiety, but I am a little nervous. I always love your videos, Ally! I have been watching your videos for years. You were one of my first inspirations for solo backpacking!

This was really helpful! Today I leave to Paris for the first time, and it is also my first time flying overseas and alone. So the combination of all this is very nerve wracking for me and knowing that to feel this way is normal, comforts me. ❤️❤️

I so wish you would have done this video last month. :p I went on my first solo international adventure and I was freaking out over EVERYTHING. I couldn't sleep because I was having nightmares that I would somehow forget to go to LA to catch the plane, or that I would oversleep and miss the plane or maybe the flight would cancel... there was like no end. Then I was scared as hell about the actual flight, building it up in my mind because I only ever hear bad things about it from people who don't like flying... only to find out I am the weirdo that loves everything everyone hates about flying. Taking off/landing? My favorite part! Turbulence? Ha! Feels like a carnival ride and it's the second best part!
I actually found your channel for the exact reason your mentioning: Researching to calm my nerves. I quit my job and am leaving everything to go to Australia(I'm from Denmark) in 13 days, so for me the countdown is getting solo close! Haha..

Flying to South Africa in a month, it will be my first time travelling solo, and my biggest worry is to navigate the airports(and trains to get to the airport), and I know that it is an irrational fear because then I was in Kenya last year with my family I was the one who navigated the airports, but in case something had gone wrong there would have been an adult to handle the problems, and now it is just me...
I wish I had have seen this video or known that these types of videos were out when I went on a 6 month exchange to the U.S. in 2012. I would have been so helpful!!

+Molly In Motion Australia and Germany are both super easy to travel! Many Germans will speak English and help you get around. Not to worry -- go get em!

My trip to South East Asia is still kind of far away (in September) and I'm more excited than I am nervous right now. Your videos have helped me get over so many of the fears I originally had, and they also helped me calm my parent's nerves about the whole traveling solo thing haha. I know there's tons of videos about how to keep your valuables safe, but I guess some of my concerns now are more like: when I want to go to the beach or waterfall or something like that and I want to bring my camera (I have a go pro and a mirrorless camera) to take pictures/videos, where do I put my gear and my stuff when I'm not capturing photos in that very moment? How careful should I be when I bring gear to those types of places? would I need to keep it on me at all times?

Literally just got a phone call from a mate offering to fly me to Tenerife AND pay for my accommodation but its going to be my first overseas trip without a parent/responsible adult and Im not the kind of person to go clubbing and drinking but he is, PLUS I think he likes me. There will be two others with us but im worried he'll want to get with me while out there and I'll feel inclined since he paid for everything and I do really like him (but I really dont want a relationship and am saving myself for marriage) It should be totally fine but I'm also really scared about it.

Thanks for the tips! I just booked tickets to Australia which will be my first time travelling alone. In preparation for my travels I have watched ALL of your videos, in which you have answered many of my questions.. Yet! there is one question still to be answered, that i'm sure you will be be able help with. That is what type of precautions should I take against all the different animals that will be trying to kill me while in Australia? Would greatly appreciate any advice you can give for this. Hey! I just watched this video and thank you sooooooo much it definetly calmed me down a little bit. So around this time next year I'm going on my first trip all on my own, and I'm an 18 year old Canadian girl. I'm planning on Indonesia Thailand Amsterdam Vietnam the whole shabang and I'm really excited but I'm so nervous, my anxiety is screaming at me not to do this. Do you think I may be to young? did you travel at my age? should I be scared I'm going to get kidnapped and sold as a sex slave? 😳
