    My unpopular opinion: I think airlines should offer child-free flights. I'd be happy to pay extra if that were an option. :)

    • @marabanara
      @marabanara 3 года назад +1

      I’m a parent and I agree with you! The problem happens when the flight I might need (to meet a connecting flight, for example) won’t allow my kids, and then we might be stuck with cranky tired kids on an even longer layover... but I think on routes where there are super regular flights, child free flights are BRILLIANT idea. Kids and babies on planes have never bothered me personally, and my eldest (only kid we flew with) was generally a great flyer. But that doesn’t mean everyone is the same, and I completely understand!

      @@RyanFila 3 weeks is a good average. I imagine the need would pop up once in a while if I were gone for months at a time. I just genuinely like being alone more than I like being with people and I can go by a few weeks without seeing or speaking to anybody. I'm a loner :)

    Also unpopular opinion: you don’t need a backpacking backpack to do multiple months of travel. Like gosh I’ve gotten fitted for a backpack and tested it out on a 3 day domestic trip -and I was just like nope not doing this for multiple months. Rolly suitcase and a small day bag for me.

    • @marabanara
      @marabanara 3 года назад

      Totally agree- depends on the destination, how long you’re staying and how often you’re moving about.

    How about a video on positive tips that you don't hear or read about. Like if you go to Rome and don't want to spend money on visiting museums go during the first sunday of the month and all the museums are FREE!!! If you go to rome and don't want to spend lots of money on airport transfers (this only works for Ciampino airport) you can get a bus from Ciampino airport to Ciampino train station for €1.50 and a one way ticket from Ciampino train station to Rome for €1.20. This brings you into Roma Termini where you can access the entire city by either bus or metro. Don't spend money on bottled drinks in Rome. All you need is a sports bottle because Rome has thousands of drinking fountains (called nasone) where you can fill up on free water and it's littererally better than bottled water. Ice cold, tastes great and free.! Io amo l'Italia.

    I think group travel gives you the wings to solo travel. I don't understand wanting people to do something uncomfortable when they are inexperienced on their own. Doesn't it make more sense to go travelling with someone first and then try to make it out on your own. I know some people are super brave to solo travel when they first travel but if its required, very few people would travel. I don't understand this gatekeeping.

    The point about not liking travel is so true. We only did short UK holidays when I was growing up. I was 21 the first time I got on a plane but then didn't travel for another 8 years because I didn't have anyone to go with. Then I started solo travelling and love it. My parents on the other hand hate it. My Dad has never had a passport and my Mum allowed her last one to expire over 15 years ago and has never renewed. They don't even like travelling in the UK anymore, they just see it as expensive and stressful so don't bother. They don't discourage me from travelling but they also don't understand why I love it so much.

    I love top bunk if it's a fixed to the wall bunkbed (it's what I have at home), if it's the normal one that shakes every time someone uses the ladder, bottom bunk all the way hahaha. Unpopular opinion: I paid (what I think is) a ton of money for the hostel and I will gladly stay in bed all day for several days w/o interacting with other people.
    Also for the Philippines, as someone who's born, raised, and currently lives here, I get why people think it sucks - public transportation, lack of infrastructure, not to mention we're not connected to the rest of SEA so you have to take a flight to get here, and apparently it's not as cheap. It's great if you want a nice time chilling on the beach, but we do have a ton of natural disasters (ex. Just in 2020, we've had a volcanic eruption, pandemic, the strongest typhoon of the year (Rolly/Goni), then another typhoons less than a week later (Atsani), and right now a strong af tropical storm (Ulysses/Vamco) so it's a lot of destruction just in one year and the average is 20 typhoons a year) not to mention the corruption regarding infrastructure, so yeah it's not for everyone but if ever you do go here, the locals appreciate it a lot cause some communities heavily rely on tourism as their main source of income. For Aly, I know you don't like Manila (haha that's where I live) and for me, it's just a concrete jungle - there are some nice places for shopping and cultural heritage sites but people here do tend to scam foreigners sadly.

      I was born and lived there for many many years. It's great to visit but becomes very tiring to live there. Travel is expensive and unreliable, so a disproportionate amount of time has to be allocated to arriving at work (or any appointment) on time which becomes annoying very quickly. Lots of more reasons why being there 'on holiday' with a holiday mindset is so very different from living and working there.

    Aly, I agree with most of your comments and would add to a few;
    1) it's not that the 'Must See' places aren't worth it, it's that too many things are called 'Must See' when they really aren't. eg The Grand Palace in Bangkok is a 'Must See' however the floating market is just a tourist trap now (and was getting that way 30 years ago when I first saw it).
    2) same city fatigue applies to many things. Do a bit of research first to decide what makes each city different. Similarly in places in Asia it's easy to get 'Temple'd Out', so don't plan to see one every day. If you saw 4 Temples per day in somewhere like Kerala (India) you'd need to be there for a very long time to see them all, so pick and choose, and have non-temple days. I'd guess that applies to many other types of site as well (but can't think of any at the moment).
    3) London is one of the best tourist cities in the world, but only if you're very wealthy. It's packed with stuff to do and see but most of it (including accommodation) is horribly expensive). If you're not wealthy then you need to do a lot of research and budget carefully, or go elsewhere.
    4) whilst I agree that lazy days are fine, I wouldn't recommend staying in the hotel in a town/city. Maybe if it's in the middle of nowhere otherwise just wander round the local area and don't be afraid to sit in a restaurant/coffee shop with a good book and watch the world walk by.

    My unpopular opinion: travelling with kids can be done, but you need to slow down.
    I’ve been told to just schlepp the kids wherever I want. I’ve also been told kids shouldn’t travel as it inconveniences adult travellers.
    I think both can be right, but for our family, we find the kids need to be old enough so I don’t have to carry our whole bloody house on every trip. And it’s okay to slow down and yes, it’s okay to want accommodation that makes it easy to keep kids clean, warm/cool and fed. Some people are good with dunking their baby in a creek, letting their air dry and cuddling them up to a local yak to sleep. Whatever floats your parenting boat, I say (safety being important, of course- the yak needs a baby monitor strapped to its head, right?). But after having my toddler covered in mozzie bites from taking her to the showers in a campground/holiday park (you know what the Aussie ones are like no doubt Aly), I’ll now pay more for a cabin with a bathroom and not lose sleep with a cranky itchy baby.

    EVERYWHERE is "samey"
    Traveling is mainly boring and lonely
    You miss so many home comforts
    People are getting ruder and piggish
    Most havent even explored their hometown
    It seems amazing because its different, just like someone elses food always looks better than yours.
    Instagram has made travel a "materialistic" want.
    You cant beat your own bed, sofa, TV.

      @@davidhcobbald3632 yep ! i always check the comision they want to charge. and there are places and place. We always buy currency before, or if we go to a local exchange place, we check online first how much will it be, go and ask, and if they are close to the bank rate, we then go ahead. Unpopular travel opinion: If someone approaches you to sell something and you aren't going to miss a flight, don't say no to them. Instead start up a conversation. Maybe you won't buy anything and will have to tell them you're not interested eventually, but even if you decide against it, you will both have a better time that day if you stop to talk for a bit. Use a translation app if you aren't able to communicate in their language.

    Philippines are sh*t? Who are these people?! I totally agree that some tourist spots are overpriced and overcrowded but as you said, that doesn't mean that they're not worth it! You definitely can't generalize that. As for my unpopular opinion, how bout this: You can only say you've been to a country if you've left the airport and spent at least 48h exploring. Good work, Aly! :-)
