Thank you so much for your ongoing love and support, it's meant so much to me during this time. There has been so much happening in my personal life that I didn't share in this video but I still wanted you to know that you are seen, your experience is valid and you can breakthrough, even if it feels as though it's a never-ending tunnel of darkness. The light is there, keep going!

Great vid, I understand where you are coming from I used to travel but haven't in a while. In a deep red state in America. It has felt dark here for a while. So I know what you mean about something to look forward to. It doesnt seem as much to look forward to with all the doom and the gloom. Even if we got (well he's still trying) the bad Orange man out, its hard to ignore many of the clouds up ahead. Usually travel would be a cure all for this, but with covid one can't really even travel.
But I am lucky as for now health and safety and everything is relatively good. My heart goes out to those in even worse situations. I know what toxic situations look like and there are so many that are probably locked in those situations with no escape for the now. I dont believe in them, but I can understand where so many conspiracy theorists mind go to, the talk of all of us being isolated and separated. But talking out, that helps so much. I'll look for more heartfelt vlogs, podcasts and people just being real, in the most confusing time periods I've ever lived through. Tough times dont last, tough people do

I'm glad you're doing better. You're a much stronger person than me to be able to identify that you needed help and have the courage to actually do it.
I don't think I'm at that level yet (maybe I'm still in denial?) - I'm not sure.
But like you say, there are billions of people experiencing similar issues and a lot of people don't have access to help, I'm glad you did and I'm happy to see you back :) welcome back!

Glad you are feeling better. I am a traveller too, I am British but have lived in America for 16 years. Before that I travelled all the time while I was in England. I travelled alone, went to places where I needed and wanted to go... Over time I found I was becoming unhappy even when I was travelling... Travelling alone, like being alone for a lot for anything, effects your mental health.. I still travel even though I am based in America (Florida), but I travel with my wife or friends...

So much love for you Aly!! Thank you for sharing your experiences, it takes real courage when you've been through so much this year. I'm sooo happy that CBT has (and is continuing to be) helpful for you. It's really reassuring to hear you speak so candidly because it's really easy to assume that it's only ourselves that are struggling and everyone else is coping fine. I know from my personal experience that my mental health has been a real battle this year too, but there is always hope and things to look forward to in the future and these crazy awful times won't last forever. Best wishes for the rest of your therapy xxx

Hi Aly. You are a brave woman for recognizing and facing your anxiety. It’s such a scary thing to have these emotions creep into your life without even realizing it. I admire your willingness to put this out there. I understand coping with the loss of traveling and how it can effect you in such a way. Having something to look forward can add so much excitement to our lives. We will get there again one day! You are so blessed to have free healthcare in your country that allows you the opportunity to seek treatment. I live in the US where many of us cannot afford treatment for our medical ailments. We are in very broken times here.
Cheers to life looking up and being the best self we can be!!

Literal tens of millions of people are experiencing this, if not more. I’m... I was in the hospitality industry. My friends, my former uni mates... we’re mostly in the hotel, resort, restaurant, airline, travel industry and most of us are now laid off, and with no industry recovery in sight for the next couple of years, we’re at a loss. Our honed skills and experience are now almost worthless and the stresses of losing our decent pay with car leases, mortgages and rising food bills are constant gut checks. Many of us have kids who now have to go to school from home, so constant supervision is a must as well. I also take solace in the walks, the exercising and in seeing people go about daily routines. It reminds me that life is persevering. We’re not doing well, but as long as we’re surviving, we’re biding time for the tide to change direction... and it will. People will travel again and have fun again. We just have to dig in and survive until it happens.

We have missed your videos, and i am glad you have posted a new one. I am sad to hear you have been in a dark place. But its good you have identified it, and sought out help. And in time, hopefully everything will seem a lot more stable in your life again. I have been there, and i know how it slowly creeps up on you, becomes all encompassing, before you even know it. I found that i used to fake smile, fake laugh and do things that i knew used to make me happy. And then one day, i realized the fake smile was no longer so forced and was easier. The cliché time heals all, is true. You are an incredibly strong person and with the help, i think its safe to say "you got this". Consider yourself hugged.

Thanks for posting this, I have been feeling very similar things over the past few months and I don't know anyone personally/seen anyone posting something like this on social media and appreciate it so much. I notice me disassociating quite regularly and my counsellor who I've seen for over 2 years now, who I have been working over some trauma was noticing it as well during our sessions. I'm definitely been feeling lots of anxiety (and a bit of depression) of the in between summer and winter and moving to a new town 6-7 hours of where I currently am to where I barely know anyone in less than a week. But with the snow coming soon (it did snow the other day, but the sun came back and made it icy) I'm super excited to be snowboarding again as well as exploring a new mountain to be riding on and thats what I'm focusing on the most to help with not disassociating myself from everything.
I'm definitely looking forward to van content as I totally wish I bought one now instead of my vw golf, cause I'm getting jealous of everyones van builds and may end up buying one next summer.
Much love from an Aussie ski bum in Canada

I'm glad I didn't go back to the UK when it all kicked off. I've seen friends end up in the pit of despair to the point they want to leave the UK but can't bring themselves to do it. There are still plenty of travel options. Serbia, Macedonia, Mexico, I even spent 3 months in Belarus this year!

Aly, I remember watching your livestream videos a few years ago when you were moving to Budapest. One of your videos taught me to start traveling where I am and to explore places in my immediate surroundings, which led to so many travel adventures during my Sabbatical. I had not considered that before because I had wanted to move for years, but that insight allowed me to enjoy getting to know the area in which I have now lived for a decade. I am so thankful that you shared that with us.
Now, as for the depression and anxiety and grief, I went through an extended version of that after my dad died in September 2018. Every aspect of my old life collapsed as my mood and sleep were in shambles. The crippling insomnia I had developed had affected my work, memory, focus, and relationships with the people in my life. For several months, I tried therapy, CBT, CBT-i, prescriptions, supplements, hypnosis, exercise, etc. to no avail. Each thing I tried left me feeling worse. It was 14 months of raw hell.
Thank God, I found yoga nidra and body scan meditations through Reddit and RUclips recommendations. It took me 97+ hours over 3 months, but the depression, panic and anxiety attacks, horrible nightmares, anxiety-charged heart palpitations, and everything else were gone once and for all. My sleep was fully restored, and I used other meditation techniques to restore my memory and focus. I no longer mourn my old life as the new life I have now is orders of magnitude better than all the years before 2018.
May you continue to get better and better!

So of with the bandaid it’s been for me and clean that / those wounds and pour disinfectant straight in painful as it is ! When you take a break from a video and take care of your mental health, you're helping your viewers by setting an example. And we want you to be healthy because we care...and let's be honest...it's not enjoyable to watch a video when you can tell someone feels awful and like a basket case. Several RUclipsrs I follow have taken long mental health breaks, and I'm cheering them on for doing that.

The double-whammy of depression and anxiety causing disassociation and causing me to do absolutely nothing, spiraling self-hate over not doing the things, etc. has been so familiar and I've felt like such a slacking failure but knowing I'm not alone truly helps. I shared my story with Wil Wheaton and his response was very similar, "never forget there is another side to this and you'll get there. You will. And I'll be there, to welcome you back. I promise." We'll always be here. Take the time you need, whenever this hits, and we'll be here to welcome you back with love and support. YOU MATTER.

To struggle in this year... it's just human. It did impact us all, in some way or another and this of course has consequences.
Glad to hear you found your solution to work on it and I am happy to see you again! 🥰

Ive been depressed since January my only daughter 21yrs old was killed when she got hit by a car. I am now in a world i dont want to be in. sometimes i get scared of myself because i have suicidal thoughts. it comes in waves and without warning. I am on antidepressants and having couseling sessions but it really isn't helping.

I know this is an old post but I hope you are in a better place mentally. Jesus said “I am the way, the truth and the life; no-one comes to God except through Me (John 14:6). Jesus wants you to to cast all your cares on Him because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). Only by repenting of sin and trusting in Jesus to guide your life are you spiritually safe for all eternity. I encourage you to prayerfully read The Holy Bible.

Don't know what to say Aly. I figured you were experiencing some problem when the video's stopped coming. Thought you wewre just going to take a break for a while and when you were ready you would return and fill us in. We should have sent a "Hope you are doing OK" comment but was thinking it could be anything, like health or health of family members or whatever and a comment may have been inappropriate for what ever was going on. I can't say that I have ever experienced what you are going through or are going through but I know myself, I try to follow the rule my Dad often said, " Don't worry about what you have no control over ". So I basically look at myself and say what can I do to ease whatever the situation is and then I make a plan. Everything else, what will be will be. You can only do what you can. I know this may not help with severe anxiety but it works for me most of the time. Well, hope you are getting stronger and once you and Scott hit the road in the van you'll get a second breath. Camping can be fun but you should see about getting some kind of awning to attach to side of van. You'll need it in rainy weather. We have a 28' ( 8.5 m ) travel trailer and even that big, you can't sit in there day after day in bad weather or even just to BBQ outside when raining the awning comes in real handy. I also HIGHLY recommend a vehicle Dash Cam. Alot can happen on the highway or town/city streets and without proof.....one person's story means nothing. Also get a small fire extinguisher and a Smoke/CarbonMonoxide Detector .Take care.

I was supposed to go on a trip this year with my mom, well obviously that got cancelled.. but the thing is, this trip was literally what kept me going last year through some very hard times. The last 5 years of my life have been AWFUL and I was putting all of my hopes and dreams into that trip.. a reward to myself for surviving. And now I have nothing to look forward to. All the effort I put into it was a complete waste of time. Was planning on getting married and buying a house next year but Ive had to quit my job and now I wont be able to get a job until a vaccine is released.. or.. I dont even know when! The uncertainty is killing me. Every single person I love is immunocompromised and we are all trapped in our homes. I feel very angry about it.. and the US is a political hellscape at the moment.. the cherry on top of all my problems.

Hello, first let me say I have been enjoying your videos since you were in Australia.
Some time you you can go in 2 different directions and still arrive in a better place. I have witnessed this helping many people similar and other problems. The person to explain it best is Dr Georgia Ede, she has many RUclips videos that may help.

My grandma always said "YOU MUST HAVE SOMETHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO". I am a grandma myself now. I have lived in a very different world from today. I lived in a time BEFORE INTERNET! BEFORE NETFLIX! Before Blocbuster! BEFORE VCR (does your generation even know what those things are?lol) and even BEFORE CABLE! We had A LOT of things to "LOOK FORWARD TO!" You dont need something TREMENDOUS! To look forward to. It can be the SMALLEST PLEASURES in life! To come home from work, pour a cup of coffee, go to your bedroom, and CLOSE YOUR DOOR, and wath your favorite show! TIME TO YOURSELF! Back in the day, we HAD TO LOOK FORWARD to our favorite shows ONCE A WEEK! And if you missed it, THAT WAS IT! Better have a friend who is good at telling you what happened! lol Now a days, everything is INSTANT gratification! Even PHOTOS! TOOK WEEKS! To even SEE THE PICTURE! You had FILM! and you had to SHIP IT OFF to be developed! I remember when Foto huts, YEAH YOU DONT HAVE A CLUE WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT! lol But it was a small building in parking lots of stores, that you drove up to, gave them your roll of film, and COME BACK IN AN HOUR! to get your photos! We were living the fast life! lol And what a treasure to flip through the pictures. Each one a surprise, because you would have forgotten what you took. And HOW IT TURNED OUT, would be a surprise as well! And THEY EACH HAD TRMENDOUS MEANING AND VALUE to them! NOT TODAY! Photos are taken and deleted and taken again. And NO ONE carries and ACTUAL PHYSICAL PHOTO! SOmething about a BRAG BOOK, a purse photo book, that was a treasure! Little books that fit in your purse, that held a dozen or so photos. Talking to your friends or family! We did not have cell phones! Heck our first phone was a "party line". meaning two families shared the same line. And you didnt know these people! It could be anyone in the city! And LONG DISTANCE costs LOTS OF MONEY! So What a treat to SPEAK WITH FAMILY WHO LIVED FAR AWAY! Now we can call whenever we get a whim! AND MOST DONT! Cause they see them on fb! SO DISCONNECTED! We THINK we are all connected and have such cconveniences these days. I DISAGREE!!! We are more disconnected than ever! We have the distance and cover of the ccomputer screen. We are less likely to bite our tongue! We are LESS LIKELY to reach out! Cuase IT DOES NOT MEAN AS MUCH CAUSE IT IS SO CONVENIENT! NOTHING IS SACRID ANYMORE! And we have NOTHING to look forward to! NOTHING! Even "
