- Welcome back to another episode of Nasty2ss. Today we add about 200 wheel horsepower to our 1999 Honda Civic D16Y8 with this Ebay cold air intake. Bro that turbo sound got me excited for a second. I thought I’d actually make my car sound that way 😭. Anyway isn’t it bad facing an intake downward closer to the ground? What if water gets flung up during rainy seasons? I’m new to this car stuff so I’d like to have a proper answer on this.

That vacuum hose that is by the maf sensor/plug on the tube next to the throttle body, where did that vacuum hose run to?
So the coolant line you ran a hose straight from the thermostat housing on to the intake manifold?

I'm late to this party but hopefully you see this. I was wondering how you figured the hoses out, like I want to install one of these on my civic but the hosing from the valve cover and other places confuse me and there isn't any online help that I have been able to find as far as diagrams of the hoses etc... Thanks in advance!

It's easy. Remove the big hard line entirely. You'll now have two open coolant hoses, link them with a barb fitting from autozone. Now run a hose from valve cover to intake. Plug the other intake hole, idk why there is 2.

could a short ram intake work better for this so u wouldn’t have to take the bumper off ? cool asf but it looks kinda goofy to me lmfao
you actually want to run the filter away from the engine bay for cooler air temps. Air cleaner in engine bay will get heat soak real quick and kill horsies. K&N has a really nice D16Y8 option for a good looking air cleaner that you can see in the engine bay with blockoff plates.

A lot of people have it high in the engine bay which is dumb. Its supppse to go down as low as possible. The engine bay it self has heat from engine flowing around it. If the intake is on top, you will still get hot air intake
@@HowTwo007 its called a short ram and i def prefer a short ram air intake cause you cant hydrolock your engine that way and it sounds better in my opinion. As of performance the hp difference is minimal for both options compared to stock.
@@HowTwo007 you think you do, but you have no idea what you're talking about. What you're talking about is called a Short Ram Intake. It provides more power at lower RPMs, whereas a Cold Air Intake provides more power at higher RPMs. Cars with turbos normally use Short Ram Intakes, because they get their high RPM power from the turbo, and the Short Ram Intake helps at the lower RPM end of the power curve, flattening out that curve, which is ideal for more, constant power. A properly designed Short Ram Intake will have its filter away from the engine block and the exhaust headers, where most heat is produced. By design, a Cold Air Intake will be lower to the ground, but it also can grab water from a small puddle and throw it into your engine, ruining your day. If a Short Ram Intake were as long as a Cold Air Intake, then it'd be a Cold Air Intake, so by design it has to be shorter to get the wanted effects.
