  • Hungarian groove Metal band Ektomorf was founded by Zoltan Farkas in 1994. 2015 marked the first time the band would tour America and also brought them to the Mesa factory for this latest round of the Tone Sessions at MESA/Boogie®.
    Zoli and guitarist Tamas Schrottner played the song ‘Face Your Fear’ from their 2014 release Retribution. Tamas played his ESP 8-string through the Grid Slammer into the Dual Rectifier Multi-Watt head and Rectifier Standard Slant 4x12 cabinet with Celestion Vintage 30s. Zoli played his custom 8-string ESP Viper through Ch. 3 of the Mark V in Mark IV Mode into a Rectifier Standard Slant 4x12 cabinet, also with Celestion Vintage 30s.
    Guitars were recorded with CabClone’s in the Closed Back cab sim and SM57 mics. Each side was blended 50% (CabClone & SM57) and panned 100%, left and right. There is NO EQ, compression or FX added to the guitar sounds. Drums, bass and vocals are original mix stems from the original album, just slightly lower in this mix.
    The song played on the outro of the video is the actual track from the album to compare the mixed & mastered guitar sounds to the CabClone/SM57 sound used throughout this playthrough.

    Dislikes? Really? Sure, it may seem like a rough mix, but for what it is this is awesome! It shows off Mesa tone and even the clarity.

    not every metal song has to be technical or difficult to play. great tone!

    The tone is killer! I was on tour with Ektomorf when this recording was made at MESA. I'll tell you what blew me away was the Mark V Zoli used on tour after this, and the Grid Slammer! That pedal is freaking massive in terms of clarity and tone. And mixed with the unique sound of an 8 string guitar (which we all know tends to get muddy in the wrong hands) Mesa ' s sound prevailed. I watched these guys run a straight rig with Tomi using a wah and Zoli using a TC Helicon for some delay. Again, in combination with the Grid Slammer Ektomorf ' s sound was unmatched!

    Tone is heavy, the two amps mesh well, was surprised. One of the better sounding cabclone demos I've heard. Won't comment on the players or band.

    This sound is monstrous. It has that Skinlab Disembody the New Flesh feel. This Rythm kicks ass with a tight groove. Love it. Glad to see this band represent such an awesome product.

    Sounds awesome, these guys are tight on the rhythm. When I was a kid everyone into Thrash and Metal was trying to get sounds like this out of JCM 800s , or similar, with an EQ and a distortion pedal. When the Rectifier came along you could ditch the pedals and get it right out of the box.

    I can't imagine why there are so many down turned thumbs for this. The amps sound great, the guys didn't miss a single note in the tune they were playing either. The tune doesn't have to be a style i dig for me to still respect the artists playing. Although this is kind of Cool !

      Many thanks, Alex Wright ! You're hearing what we hoped people would heard. Big, defined sound with just CabClone and SM57 and NO EQ! Thanks for watching!

    • @alexwright1464
      @alexwright1464 9 лет назад +2

      MESA/Boogie I was especially impressed with the definition of those low strings. I doubt there are any other guitar amps, hell, any bass amps either that could get that kind of definition without losing a nice, rich, full low end.

    • @mesaboogie
      @mesaboogie  9 лет назад

      ThanksAlex Wright - We spent some time dialing them in even though we didn't have a ton of time overall to capture this. Mark V & Recto in each their own way can truly deliver the goods for extended range stuff. Just gotta dial it in...

    • @Chuchuguitar
      @Chuchuguitar 9 лет назад +1

      Alex Wright I think that those Dislikes are because of the actual mix. Even though MESA/Boogie wanted to show off what the cabclone is capable of, normally raw recorded guitars tracks are not what we are used to hear. Perhaps lower the guitars so that the bass and drums complement them.

    • @alexwright1464
      @alexwright1464 9 лет назад +1

      Chuchu Maybe. I understand why they would boost the sound of the amps being demo'd, but I see your point.

    I must say, I went from using a 6505+ for years, then decided I needed a change. Ended up with a 2006 (I believe 2006 anyways) Mesa Dual rectifier. At first I didn't like it, but then one day everything just clicked and I must say I am digging the hell out of it. Sounds massive and have been loving playing it!

    Im really digging that cab clone and the 50/50 blend with a mic'd cab. It still gives that rawness with the cabs but the sharp articulation and definition the CC gives to the bottom end. I heard Petrucci used a CC for a show during the Along For the Ride tour and with good results.

    • @mesaboogie
      @mesaboogie  9 лет назад

      Thanks,Ryan Soliman - Thanks for hearing what we were hoping to get across here. Just CabClone and a 57 sounds good without doing a thing to it. :) And Yes, Petrucci has been using a CabClone with great results! Thanks for watching!

    What tuning on the whole 8-string guitar?

  • @gab.lab.martins
    @gab.lab.martins 9 лет назад +1

    Question, any chance there will be a revisitation on the Road King design? An update on the preamp to get it closer to the MultiWatt Rectos. I think it'd be awesome to have the third channel sounding tight and crisp like the new Dual, but keeping the fourth beefy and thick for leads. I'd be one of the first customers.

  • @Dejoblue
    @Dejoblue 9 лет назад +1

    WoW! Fantastic tone, amazing how Mesa keeps definition with such low tunings.
    Question tho I hear noise/hum on the left channel, curious which that is the CabClone or the SM57? Otherwise I can't tell the difference, hell they sound the same to me otherwise.
    Cheers!

    • @mesaboogie
      @mesaboogie  9 лет назад +2

      Good ear,Dejoblue - Guitar Right (Tamas) amp was humming a little bit... not sure why... Left it in the mix to maintain the NO EQ/FX approach for this video. It would certainly be removed (one way or another) in a full mixdown. Thanks for the keen ear and the kind words!

    They just finished recording their new CD and according to a video posted about a week ago, they used the mini mark for the entire CD. You should've had them play that. Or was this filmed before they had it?

    • @mesaboogie
      @mesaboogie  9 лет назад

      Thanks Carlito Peinado ! This was filmed about 3 weeks ago when they were here in the US. They started recording when they returned. Most bands don't make a habit of letting their NEW songs out in full before an album releases, although that would have been cool if Mesa had the World Premier of a brand new, unrecorded song, right? :D Thanks for watching!

    Dislike the genre, but if these guys are getting that sort of saturated, blistering tone then hats off to Mesa/Boogie. Showing versatility is the point of these videos, I think. Brilliant amplifiers.

      CORRECT,Oliver Cobb - Exactly what we were hoping. Not all styles suit all people (ESPECIALLY in Metal)! :D But hopefully people can hear that just RAW, The CabClone and an SM57 sound pretty mighty with two guitars. Thanks for watching! :)

    I don't like this song and this kind of music, but Mark V sounds awesome! I think it`s more clear and defined than Dual. Great amps but soooo expensive... :(

    • @alexwright1464
      @alexwright1464 9 лет назад

      rafamcm If price is an issue, and you are comfortable buying used, look around, you can find great Mesas for cheaper than buying a Mark V new. You can find single rectifiers for like $600, Dual Caliber combos for $600 (one of which I own), and 50 watt Rectoverbs for about $700.
