Scoring the Last Barrels in La Jolla - New Years Swell - Day 5 - SLAW Sessions - 12-31-2023

Another morning of surfing barreling waves at the La Jolla Reefs. It was Day 5 of the New Years Swell on 12-31-2023 and the waves were still pumping. The sets started to become a little inconsistent and longer lulls, but when they came their were some bombs. A crew of local La Jolla chargers were in the lineup such as Skip McCullough, Zeke, Brady Russychaert, and others. Skip McCullough caught the wave of the session getting a deep barrel and back side rail grabbing on the foam ball. As in previous sessions at this reef break, the surfers needed to be selective on which wave to take. Although this allowed many empty barrels to go by.

yeah that New Years swell was pretty insane. one of the best run of waves I have seen in a long time.

Thanks 👍. Yeah it was pretty insane those two days. This is a really tough spot to read cause it is such a shifty reef. Pick the wrong wave and you are definitely hating life in that impact zone. Had so much footage from those 6 days of swell it took about 2 weeks to release it all. Hoping the next 4-5 days give us some good new swell , just hope the rain isnt an issue. Yeah definitely for sure on these two days I was filming. Needed to be very selective on what wave to take off on. This reef really held the swell good, and not only holding it but to be so clean at the same time. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
