    He went to my high school ( Washington park ) he was friends with my mom his story is great, one of my favorites I've met him a few times when working community events I have pictures to prove it. Caron is honestly a really humble dude he knows his roots and is involved with the city.

    I feel like they never explained this part: For those who don't know, Racine is a small "city" which is really just a big town, on the south part of Wisconsin. Its a mainshoot off of I-94 which is the perfect stop between Milwaukee and Chicago. Its actually in a rural area of the state, but its location made it home to a ton of industrial and factory workers, low income properties, and thusly drugs. 90% of the coke in Milwaukee comes through the GD's running it from Chi to Milwaukee, then branching over to Madison, St Paul, and onward. While its not considered "hard" in the same sense that maybe north Houston might be, it is still a tough area. There is also an extreme wealth gap in that city, its either poverty, or the SC Johnson executives/family.

    • @BrandlTheEconomist
      @BrandlTheEconomist 9 лет назад +10

      REV J I too grew up in Racine. I watched it decay as in the 1980s as REV J explained. As an economist it pains me to see what has happened in Racine. Caron is exactly correct: if all people see is are drug dealers that is what they see themselves becoming. Just as if all they see is investment bankers they will see themselves as investment bankers. How to turn Racine around? Part of the answer is if we could get people like Caron to show & teach the young people of Racine how to start & run successful firms (and get them the capital they need)...then we could start to change how these young people see the future. What a shame it is that it is mostly to the already well off that we teach how to start and run firms....

      I was born in Racine in 1979 and moved away to Miami in 1980. I would come up every summer to see family and wanted so bad to move back, but now as an adult when I come back to visit it looks sad. My uncle is Abdul Jeelani(RIP) who is considered the first Racine NBA player.

      Don't paint Racine as some poverty stricken wasteland. Just like most cities it has it's good areas and bad areas. People tend to focus on the bad because it gets viewership. Racine has a booming middle class and some of the best architecture from Frank Lloyd Wright in the US. It's also produced some of the most successful companies in the world, JI Case, SC Johnson, Twin Disc, and InSinkErator. Plenty of beautiful places and people in Racine.

    Everyone going crazy about romo hoopin but these top level athletes are play professional sports for a reason, because they are world class. Most QBs were also stud pitchers and b-ball players at one point. Most WRs/RBs/TEs could’ve played D1 basketball or ran track somewhere. And they all can pretty much walk into a sport with zero experience and at least compete...bo Jackson, world class baseball player and running back, also drives a golf ball 330yds. Romo- QB, ball player, excels at golf. Russel Wilson has spent his off season doing spring training with the Yankees. Most professional athletes can cross the lines of a different playing field and AT LEAST be competitive...
