I heard a story about Matt Barnes once when the NBA was on lockout back in 2011. Apparently he played a few pickup games at Kezar Stadium in SF. If you remember other players were playing in the Drew league while others played Internationally to keep their skills up. A player on the court was heckling Matt Barnes during one of these pick up games. When the refs weren't looking Barnes laid an elbow on the fool so hard he went to the ground and had to come out the game. Matt Barnes ain't no joke.
Whoever is questioning his "Blackness," needs to leave that alone. The story is legit. You don't know what the next person has experienced. Listen to the story, receive the message.

Knowing someone's story is critical and often eye-opening. I didn't even know I liked this guy until I learned his story. I have respect and a kinship with this brother because of his journey of overcoming. Goes to show, there are no mistakes or failures, just lessons.

Matt Barnes always keeps it real. Great for people to see where he came from and how thoughtfully he speaks. If everyone that dislikes him for his play on the court saw this video, I'm sure a great deal would change their minds about him. Happy to see that he's having success after his playing career ended. I saw him once at a hotel pool with his young family when I was with mine. He wasn't well known at that point but I knew him at a glance because I followed UCLA basketball. We lost to Missouri in the NCAA tournament because the UCLA coach took Barnes out and they went on a run. Always wished him the best.
