I read Tim Donaghy's book in which he mentions the NBA plays favorites. Jordan and Kobe Bryant for example were going to get the calls. Not good for entertainment value to have either player sitting on the bench for too long. Then there are the playoffs and which teams are better suited for ratings. NBA officials were never told specifically but it was understood who TV preferred to see in the Finals. Early in Donaghy's career the NBA decided there was too much traveling during the games. Officials were told to make more calls. So, Donaghy made a traveling call during a Chicago game against MJ after he spun towards the basket and scored. When Phil Jackson screamed, Donaghy explained the league was clamping down on traveling. Jackson, yelled back, "Yes, but not on HIM!" meaning Jordan.
So much of this story is missing from this video. Namely the numerous phone calls that Donoghy made to CURRENT NBA referee Scott Foster during his betting streak. Also the fact that Donoghy won the majority of his bets on games that he did not officiate. He attributed this to knowing the relationship between the refs and players being reffed as well as internal memos that the NBA sent to officials with 'areas of focus'. This all goes back to the Knicks winning the 1985 1st round draft pick which they used on Patrick Ewing because David Stern *"froze"* the envelope to ensure that Sacramento did not get that pick instead. The Kings did themselves no favors by blowing game 4 and game 7 but Donoghy was under orders to make sure that the Kings did not advance to the 2002 NBA Final.

So now people gonna be saying, the 00-02 lakers didn't belong in the finals or shouldn't have won any of them. It's not like they asked for this to happen. The kings shot better from the field, lakers shot better from the line. kings shot better from behind the arc. But here is the question. If they were betting and the lakers were down 3-2 in the series, and apparently they wanted the lakers to win. Why did they have the lakers go down at all? they were down 2 times in the series, came back. Did they only bet on the games the lakers were supposed to win or did they dictate the series and bet on both? It's a serious question as well. But let's be real here... if there wasnt money involved he would've never gotten in trouble.. they only care about the money hes making/they're loosing
one of the best vice mini-docs I've seen...
Lol so we’re gonna act like Stern wasn’t in on it?
do news companies pay FBI, CIA, etc. for information like the guy is talking about around 9:30
There was just one referee involved? Cool story... 😑
@Alaric Its not illegal to fix games...
*HARD* *PLACE* lol savage
THIS VIDEO NEEDS TO BE AT LEAST AN HOUR LONG. PLEASE.
NO
Nothing’s changed ..
thats a scary thought
Where can I watch the full documentary?
This video doesn’t tell the whole story. Tim in interviews has said that a lot of his inside info was the NBA dictating to the refs who they wanted to win. The fucking NBA was fixing games. They even had a ref that they would use in playoff games to make sure the games went at least 6
94' game 7 knicks/pacers. 98' game 7 Bulls/Pacers. 00' game 7 Blazers/Lakers. 01' game 7 76ers/Bucks. '02 game 7 Lakers/Kings. How sexy does a Blazers/Pacers final in 2000 sound? What about Pacers/Rockets in 94'?
Mavs & Heat 2006 finals RIGGED!
FnkytwnTim Johnson Mark Cuban said it
IBlewUponYourFace yep cubes called it
Guys who get caught with marijuana on them get more years than this, bs.
I wish I knew how to finesse like that .
Being a scumbag isn't a career bro
David H no there is bro. Politicians and police for example. It takes a schmuck
David H you not gonna be thinking your a scumbag when you making bank 😂😂
The fact that I got in the bed with him changed my life dude remember you said you came to him to help you with this scandal
This shit crazy
his brother is my dentist
Where is episode 1? Am I missing something? Title says E2...
The NBA is like the WWE, they “know” who’s going to win.
Agreed. It's "entertainment" only Olympics is not set winners i believe
I cant wait to see how they fix the playoffs and finals this year. How do you think it's gonna go down?
Ferrari_Guy they will definitely be a wcf of lakers warriors biggest markets rn will make the most money etc
@@dylanpolo2163 I see them making the Warriors lose because Lebron always makes the finals and ratings will tank supposedly if Lebron isn't in the finals. I
t will be interesting to watch for sure.
IBlewUponYourFace All sports are, they’re all scripted.
NEED the TRACK-ID (Outro) any idea ?
Talking over that damn phone...it never fails with fedz...
I remember seeing a video of a ref literally fouling a player and making a bum call. Shit was horrible and no one did shit.
Kenyon Martin acts like he was one of the players they were conspiring against haha. They definitely weren’t fouling him out of games. You never see all stars do these type of interviews
Probably cause they benefit from it smart ass.
This needed to be much longer.
Costed the Sacramento Kings a lot
Mom- you want to go out to eat?
Son- bet!
Him- wtf did you just say 😖
Love the strong inference the thumbnail gives us by capturing the dirtiest NBA referee with the greatest basketball player who ever lived and also happens to have a gambling background of legendary proportions. Wonder where this is going??🤔🙄
I really wanna see a longer version of this...
The Kings got TOTALLY F%CKED by these guys
15 months in jail....yet a young black or brown kid gets busted for having weed on him and he gets 5 years
This fool only got 15 months??? WTF
AQUA VIII ' $ he did 15 months for 237k. I'll sign up for that quick!
@@philiptucker6119 Well its because Donoughy snitched and had something valuable for the FBI. If he didnt snitch, he would have gotten the going rate for this offense.
Makes me think this is still going since the amount of ridiculous calls are being made during game
Crazy thing is state governments are legalizing the very thing he’s in jail for.
The NBA: Where Rigging Happens
Very well filmed
Franzese said he had 3 NBA refs on his payroll at one point & none of them was Donaghy. This was going on for a long time, inevitably still is in some sports to some level. Wonder how many championships have been altered by faulty refereeing.
So now people gonna be saying, the 00-02 lakers didn't belong in the finals or shouldn't have won any of them. It's not like they asked for this to happen. They played the game the way the game should have been played. Shaq fouled out in game 5 of the finals in 00. Leaving kobe by himself. 01, philly didn't stand a chance, nor did the spurs. 02 prolly is the most questionable out of all of them. Kings looked real good in that series. I really feel like a lot is missing from this and they still aren't telling us only what they want us to know.
Little known fact that Tim donaghy was actually not an official for game 6 2002, and they want to say it’s a lone wolf lol
15 months? 15 months? Ridiculous. Pete Rose is banned for life? Ridiculous
Kobe needs to thank Tim for 2 of his rings.
