It seems to be a mystery to me that everytime I buy shrimp for my aquarium a new snail pops up on my tank. They could be hiding on the free hornwort that came with the shrimp. That is what I call "stealth mode".
We are now emotionally attached. If either Alfred or Sven pass you will need to replace with a matching animal or we will react like a grade schooler losing their first pet. This could cause irreparable damage to dozens.....no pressure or anything. Gonna name the ramshorn?
A couple of years ago, for ou shiggles I threw a pond snail into a quarantine tank and he got huge! I named him BABS (big ass bladder snail) and he only recently died. He was absolutely massive!
You’re floaters are blocking a lot of the light which is why the pearl weed is reaching for the stars- lol and not carpeting. Great job on the ecosphere!!
The plants can't grow forever in there. The plants are fixing carbon into their structure and Sven nor Alfred eat the plants. Without anything to eat the plants, eventually you will end up with a CO2 deficiency and a pressure drop.
1:26 I think these may be rhizoids, the moss equivalent to roots. I have several terrariums, and the moss will often produce rhizoids like that and attach to the glass. I’ve never seen or heard of Java moss (or any moss, except for Plagiomnium insigne) producing rhizoids that aren’t attached to anything though!
this is the perfect most beautiful ecosphere i have watched in youtube so far. like i just love the shrimp u put in there which survived for a long time.
You ask in some of your youtube videos I've watched, " What vlog, like how do you want me to do it etc..." Your egg feeding video and this is what lead me here, keep doing these, and the passionate ones of the hobby will come
Today I have been keeping fish for a whole year! Also I just got a baby pea puffer for my 5 gallon tank and it's the cutest thing I've even seen🤤 it's the size of a baby snail maybe a quarter inch. He was grubbin on frozen brine shrimp today
Hello Chris, I'm not sure if you'll read this since I just watched this a few months late, but at 1:26, I think that was some kind of an Oomycete, they are a fungus-looking organism that serves as a decomposer in water environments. Anyway, I might be wrong here so I really appreciate if anyone corrects me. Cheers! :D
I'm thinking of starting an enclosed ecosphere of my own after watching this video 😍 I have a few questions though. First timer here... 1) What do shrimps eat? And how often should you feed them? 2) Do you need to cycle the water first like how you do with fish? Put declorinated water etc. 3) Should the jar be closed FOREVER? Cuz you mentioned that the universe forbids it to be opened 4) How often should you change the water? Tq!! Sorry for asking too much. I just wanna make sure I provide a healthy environment for my shrimp later ♥️
I've started a few of these over the period of lockdown , I used my tropical fish tank water . How much sunlight a day does it need ? And any other tips would be welcome .
My mom added a snail in her aquarium to help keep clean. But its turn out to be a japeness trapdoor snail and grew up as big as 3.5 inches large. Instead of cleaning the algue we had the feed im lettuce leaf. And give him calcium for is shell.
Bro! You are killing me! Gonna fall asleep at the wheel with that dreamy jarscape and Minecraft soundtrack!!! Seriously...awesome. Doing this with my daughter this weekend. Thanks for sharing!
Sven was probably resting because she was already starting to moult! Moulting takes a lot of energy. If you had let the pearl weed carpet before submerging the plants, they would be healthier and stay carpeting once you close the ecosphere. This also reduces the risk of algae blooms because if the carpet is established, there wouldn't be too many free nutrients for algae to grow.
archeologists in the next 50000 years be like: and THIS, this jar is the only living object which has survived from 50000 years ago. It used to be called an enclosed ecosphere. Humans were quite evolved at that time.
Hey Chris.. That was awesome.. Never actually know about this kind of closed one.. Did the swen carrying eggs?! Green color? Can u pls. Tell more about the shrimps nd their eggs..
You will see a yellowish/whitish area on their back called "the saddle". That is the shrimp making eggs internally. When the female molts, males will search her out and mate with her. The eggs will then move to the belly/underside. At this point the shrimp is said to be "berried". She will carry and fan the eggs which eventually get black spots which are the eyes of the baby shrimp and let you know it won't be long til they hatch.
I love Sven's white eyeliner. She puts Jeffree Star to shame! 🤣 I also appreciate a guy that actually gives a baby pond snail a name. Alfred is so cute! Thanks for the video!
I have a quick question if I may. I have a aquarium similar to yours but Ive been having trouble with my water. It keeps turning yellow. I have a couple of shrimp and snails inside, and they seem to be doing ok, but for some reason my water is a bit tainted and doesn't look as nice and crisp as yours.
Does the light produce heat like the sun? Should I get one to help organisms and life thrive or will putting by a window be enough ? Also I went to beach and done one by putting sand stones and seaweed in and no life has come out yet am I doing it wrong its uk winter time here at the moment
Love your tank!! What light did you use and how big is the jar? I would love to recreate something similar but didn’t find info about what the jar size + light is.
This was great Chris! And so happy to see little Sven and Friends are doing well. Prayers little Buddy's And yes I pray for shrimp and snails too.. all lives matter! Much love to you Chris, Cory gang and all of our companions we share our world with! 🙏🌱🐟🦐🐌🌿❤️

Cycling your tank is the most important thing you can do! Have a nice light to produce lots of algae and biofilm!
extremely amazing to see this!! Can`t wait for the next update :D
I think you should add few more lights to help a little bit with algae growth or the shrimp may die.
When the floaters start really ever-growing then the shrimp and snails will eat the ones that die off. They may even eat live floaters!

Cool I always wanted to make an ecosphere. Your ecosphere looks beautiful. Great video.
good stuff. i'd be curious had you use half sand, half soil substrate to reduce nutrient release into water

Great job looks like it's ready for a new inhabitant... Betta fish would look awesome!!!
Do you need to feed the shrimp anything? Or is there a certain plant inside the ecosphere?
No, shrimps eat anything decaying or dead they will eat the algae off the plants or something Else
Love your tank!! What light did you use and how big is the jar? I would love to recreate something similar but didn’t find info about what the jar size + light is.
I think the light is the LED strip light in my description. jar is around a gallon.
Chris thinking all night that if he puts the shrimp in a small jar he thinks his being to evil
I think Sven and Alfred wants the Mie goreng everytime you eat, also a question, do you put the seasoning on the plate or the noodles first?
Hey Chris when saddled shrimp mout it means they are ready to mate try adding a male you might get some babies!!!
I would leave to see just your favorite tank on a 1 hour loop with lofi in the back ground.
Give her a moss ball. My shrimp love those and it provides some food. You might also want to introduce algae to the tank.
Alfred might have gotten jacked because of an increase of calcium in the water, which is what a snails shell is made of, which lets Alfred grow more
Hey!
Super cool! Will we get another update?
The substrate and a plant stay crystal clear and green for months plus
