Well I've got s8+ but I was not really using the pro mode that much but watching your video makes me realize that it's just fun to use it and see how the pictures turn out so good
Tech Triangle word, good luck bro. And pro mode doesnt mean you can use auto mode no more because it all depends on the situation. Quick pics are still the best in auto.

One thing I noticed on my Galaxy S7 camera is that there is stutter in pro mode and not in auto mode when panning. The manual settings do not seem to be able to smooth this out. For video purposes, I have to choose between the pro features that I want, or a smooth pan. Perhaps they have fixed this in newer phones.
Thank you. This was a really basic explanation - but it had the merit of calling my attention to what I've been ignoring until now. BTW, subscribed, to see if you have more in-depth stuff.
Can you touch on Metering? Sometimes when I click through the 3 settings I'll notice the image will change but most of the time nothing really changes. Can you elaborate what it is, when to use it, etc.
Hi. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us. Could you tell me what happened to the Pro Mode Video function on the Note 8? I cannot find it anymore.. .once it was there. Thank you very much. Regards Marcel
Long exposures can be useful for lots of things. Basically the longer your shutter speed, the more light you let in. So, it's very good for low light, night time, stars, light trails, and even during the day if you put a filter on then you can do long exposures to smooth out water and clouds, or make people disappear from an image and blur out passing cars. Lots of useful things. I have videos on doing all that stuff on my channel if you want to learn how to do it.

I have a question on my Samsung Galaxy S9 plus and the camera on top of pro mold and all that stuff but one is missing Auto? I don't know why it's not there
matrix metering is where the camera averages the light values from a larger portion of the screen and gives you an exposure reading based on that average. Most cameras are set to that by default.
Hello sir, I watched your video on how to use the Camera pro mode option on Samsung galaxy s9 plus and I was forced to buy the S9 plus for video shooting. But I have some issues with the picture profile. My s9 plus picture profile icon is available but not highlighted, meaning it is not active. Also the picture profile in the photo mode is active , but lacks the different option to select from except options to customise that can be controlled. I needed your help. Thanks.
If you want to slow the shutter speed down enough to get smooth looking water, then yes, you will need ND filters for that during the day time. Or you can just wait until it gets darker out and do it without the filters. I did use filters for the shots in the video, but no external or 3rd party lenses.
Do you have a video focusing on how to record on a note 8 with the front camera..I can't seem to get it right by videos are coming out grainy and washed out.. not true to color. I do make up videos and the colors are not coming through very good on camera
Unfortunately I don't, I never really use the front cameras on phones. I know the front cameras aren't quite as high res as the rear cameras, but the graininess sounds like it might be a high iso issue? Do you have enough light where you're filming indoors?

If you click on that it will open up a bunch of different options for beauty-like presets. You can make sure that "original" is selected.

Overall, I'm quite happy with my Samsung, especially as a phone experience, not just the camera. Ideally, you'd want a tripod. Then I'd start with keeping your ISO as low as possible and try a shutter speed of a couple seconds or more. Aperture probably set to f/1.5.
It's just gonna depend on how much light there is in the photo. Adjusting the shutter speed will probably be your best bet for making the right exposure and keeping the ISO down.
That depends on your definition of "good." Sunsets are hard because there's so much dynamic range, even with mirrorless and dslrs it can tricky to capture a good sunset. I usually use some sort of nd grad filters or do hdr, but you can't really do that with phones. You can capture it with the hyperlapse mode, but you'll likely have either really blown out highlights or completely dark and silhouetted foreground objects. There's also no exposure controls in the hyperlapse mode in the S9 plus, so you'll likely have to rely on it's auto features. If it's all you have though, I definitely wouldn't let any of that stop you from giving it a go. I do have a video about different ways of doing timelapses with phones as well, if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/D6IVWtroIrI/видео.html
@@BrentHall okay, thank you for replying. I've tried a few times and the clouds look ok but yeah, the sun is usually just a bright blob. I even tried a welding hood lense but that made everything have a strong green tint. I'm going to go check out the video you mentioned now. Thanks again!
Mostly because I like the feel of the Samsung phones for overall use. I didn't pick it because of the camera. Although even though the Samsung camera is not as good as others out there, it's fine for me, because I still use my dslrs for real photography. And also, Verizon does not offer that phone where I am, and that's my provider.
Do you have any suggestions on a good selfie stick or .... just any one will do.... Also are there any filters that would help when taking a selfie...... seriously ... I am new at this .... Thanks .... Shirlene
Hey Shirlene, I've never used a selfie stick so I wouldn't be much help there, and I've only taken like two selfies since the invention of the front facing camera, so I'm not much help there either.😔 but I do have a video on 7 hidden features of the S9 camera, with some selfie advice. I also have a video on how to edit portraits with snapseed.
Hey thanks for this. So in pro mode (for photos) can you manually focus on something? And 1 more question..when i press the focus button i get those little square shapes like canon 80d .how do u use those to focus i dont get it:) thanks
Yes, in pro mode you can manually control the focus. Just click on the AF symbol and then you'll see the slider, where you can slide it to the focus point you want. The yellow boxes will flash over the areas of the image that are currently in focus. So when it's in auto focus, it'll look like they're going crazy because the camera is constantly auto focusing, and when you manually control the focus, you'll see the yellow boxes show up where it's currently in focus. Hopefully that helps?
If you slide it toward the flower, then it will focus to it's closest focusing distance, and if there's nothing in that part of the image, up close to your lens, then the whole rest of the image will be out of focus. Same thing if you're focusing toward the mountain symbol (to infinity), then anything that's close to your lens will look out of focus, and if you're holding it close to something that's filling the frame and have it focusing toward infinity then it will also look like the whole image is out of focus.
@@BrentHall hey thanks for the infos:) i just got the phone and today i manage to find the settings:) didnt know the meaning of flower and mountsin to be honest and couldnt find infos online or on youtube
Downside to this is that for the most part, it's always a point n shoot type of scenario so having to play with pro mode and adjust settings can take a long time and possibly miss out on the perfect moment. Are there any settings that you can set up on pro mode and that works every time such as auto mode?
@@BrentHall That's weired... would've been cool so that I can make fake long exposures more easy by taking a lot of pictures and stacking them. But in this case I need to manually press the shutter🤷🏻♂️😂
No, it's for both. I definitely use it for video, pretty much every time, unless I'm shooting in slow motion, which is only in auto. Pro mode is great for video cause you can dial in everything yourself and don't have to worry about the phone changing settings while you're recording, and you can have your shutter speed set to the 180° rule. If you're serous about video on the phone, I definitely recommend shooting in pro mode.
You were using presets in video but you didn't tell us how to make them. Also can you use presets when shooting 4K 60p ? and lastly would you know the bit rate when shooting 4k video?
For creating your own custom presets, just tap on either of the custom tones (T1 and T2) and adjust the settings to what you want. Unfortunately you can only use those presets for video when filming in the the regualr 1080 (FHD) mode, they will not work in 4K or slow motion modes (which is beyond seriously lame). With the H.264 codec, the 4K @ 60fps are captured at 72Mbps bitrate, the 4K @ 30fps - 41Mbps, the 1080p @ 30fps - 13.3Mbps, and the 1080p @ 60fps - 27.5Mbps. The audio is always recorded in stereo at 256Kbps bitrate.
There's an action photo mode, or you can use pro mode and make sure you have a fast shutter speed (> 1/500 sec), a wide open aperture (f/1.5), and as low of an iso as the light will allow you (base of 50 when possible).
Brent, please do a video on Pixel Night Sight camera feature... Is there an alternative or pro mode method, where we can super impose multiple long exposure shots to achieve perfect low light snaps in galaxy s9+
I would if I had a Pixel, but I don't have one and I don't know anyone who does. You could stack images using some free desktop software, like Deep Sky Stacker, or something. That will definitely help reduce noise and make a brighter, cleaner image. It takes a lot of extra effort though, and it still wouldn't give you dslr level quality, but it might be worth a shot.
Brent, brilliant video, its certainly encouraged me to start experimenting with my Note 8. Have you had a chance to review the Moment Pro camera app at all? I believe this uses the Pixel core camera app and wondered if it gave as good results as the Samsung camera pro mode? Would really value your opinion on this app!
Thanks Roy! I do have the moment app, but I haven't reviewed it. So far, at least for Android, I wouldn't use it over the Samsung pro mode. It just doesn't have as many options and controls yet. I've had a lot of people ask me for a review on it, but I just don't think it's ready to compete with the Samsung pro mode yet, so I've been waiting to see if they will add some improvements.
Thanks man, glad I could help! I have this video, where I tested out doing light trails with my s9 plus. The setup and process would be the same for the note, so you might be interested in it. ruclips.net/video/HFPbE8vothM/видео.html
@@BrentHall Tha k you for the quick reply, I was able to check out that video. I will take your teaching and practice it, once again thank you for help!
I have a S9+, which has HDR, but I can not figure out how to enable it in Pro-Mode. Is that actually impossible? In normal (automatic) mode it works fine in relevant situations
How do you click the silky effect for waterfalls in daylight because the shutterspeed at 10 seconds will produce a white image in proper daylight, how do I go about that?
Karan Mody three things contribute towards brightness: shutter speed, aperture and ASA. If increasing shutter speed (for blurred waterfall) causes too much light, decrease ASA and aperture size. Lower ASA has side benefit of reducing noise. Lower aperture size has side benefit of increasing depth of field.
Hey Karan, like the other comments have said, I did do another video on how to do that, and it is not an effect in the phone, it's just basic principles of photography. To get that silky smooth looking water you need to have control over your shutter speed, and it needs to be slow enough to capture the movement of the water, so at least 1/3 sec or more, depending on the size and speed of the waterfall. That's why you need a filter, and to use pro mode, to make it darker so you can increase your shutter speed without making the image look white. But that's only in bright daylight, you won't need a filter if you do it in the late evening/super early morning or at night.
Karan, I use my Galaxy Note 8. I bought a 10stop ND filter for a dslr, but I hold it on over my phone lens using a rubberband. I also use a tripod with a Bluetooth remote. Good luck!
Yeah, I only use the native app for filming videos on my phone. I find it to be by far the most reliable, and it has pretty much everything I need to make cinematic videos.
I don't know. I've heard a few people mention having this problem, but I haven't had it yet. You might resetting your camera settings, and maybe even wiping your phone's cache if it still does it after that.
They took away the video option for pro mode a while back. They've since put it back, but I think they only did it in the S10 and newer models. If you don't have a pro mode for video then you might have to look into 3rd party apps for getting the exposure controls and such.
Nice video but the mode itself only is ok for situations with steady lighting and static shots. By the time you tune up the exposure a moving subject would be far away. I've got the phone hoping to see apeture priority there. I wish they rather did semi-manual controls Av, Tv, and locking the ISO, with exposure compensation that would work for many situations.
Thank you for your video! Do you know how to take long exposure photos at night (like a light trail or take the milk way - stars) and at the day (like an fountain, pool etc) using an Note 8? Thanks! Hope you success! :)
Thanks Bruno, Glad I could help. I have made several videos on how to do all of that. Check my Smartphone tutorials playlist to find them all. Some I did on my Note 8 and some on my S9 Plus, but the cameras and settings in both are pretty similar, so it shouldn't matter.

Hey can you teach me how to shoot a star with pro mode in samsung S9+ ?
is it possible to get a good hyperlapse of a sunset with the S9plus? If so, what settings would you use?
Thank you!
What did that you choose the s9+ as your mobile and not the Huawei p20 pro fx?
Okay thanks ... I will check them out..... Shirlene
@@BrentHall when i change yo manual focus and slide the slider to focus it just blur the whole image for some reason
You're welcome, glad I could help!😁
Downside to this is that for the most part, it's always a point n shoot type of scenario so having to play with pro mode and adjust settings can take a long time and possibly miss out on the perfect moment. Are there any settings that you can set up on pro mode and that works every time such as auto mode?
Yes you can go to where the filters are and you can set your own which is based on the settings available
Can you use the Burst mode in the Pro mode?
I don't think so.
@@BrentHall That's weired... would've been cool so that I can make fake long exposures more easy by taking a lot of pictures and stacking them. But in this case I need to manually press the shutter🤷🏻♂️😂
I can't seem to find the settings for the raw & Jpeg files - im on a samsung a70
Is the Pro mode only for still photo mode? Does it how in video mode?
No, it's for both. I definitely use it for video, pretty much every time, unless I'm shooting in slow motion, which is only in auto. Pro mode is great for video cause you can dial in everything yourself and don't have to worry about the phone changing settings while you're recording, and you can have your shutter speed set to the 180° rule. If you're serous about video on the phone, I definitely recommend shooting in pro mode.
Great video, Need the soundtrack!! Will you share it?
Thank you! I use Epidemic Sound for all my videos.
Can we capture milky way pro mode in note 9?
What about the metering thing?
Please make more vids on how to tune the note 8 camera . My gf has an 8plus and her camera looks so much better.. most of the time . Thanks
just turn hdr On everytime. my gf got the X and in night shots mine is so much better
M,
You were using presets in video but you didn't tell us how to make them.
How to shoot movement on the 8...action... everything is a blur and update seems to have moved all the settings and screen options around
There's an action photo mode, or you can use pro mode and make sure you have a fast shutter speed (> 1/500 sec), a wide open aperture (f/1.5), and as low of an iso as the light will allow you (base of 50 when possible).
@@BrentHall thank you. Will test out. I don't know where the video options are simce update to stop the grainy vid when zooming in.
Excellent Tutorial!
Thank you! 😀🙏
Finally dude thanks
That was awesome thank you for taking the time, to make this. Question: Do you have a video on how to shot a light trail with your Samsung note.
Thanks man, glad I could help! I have this video, where I tested out doing light trails with my s9 plus. The setup and process would be the same for the note, so you might be interested in it.

@@BrentHall Tha k you for the quick reply, I was able to check out that video. I will take your teaching and practice it, once again thank you for help!
My phone samsung a50s is not manual focus what ido know???
nicely done dude 👍🏼
Many thanks!
Greetings from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 🤙🏼
The filter clip in the description, fits S9+?
Thanks 🙏🏼
Yes it does, that's what I use on mine. Just have to take the case off. I have a video about using filters with the phone coming out on Friday too!
I have a S9+, which has HDR, but I can not figure out how to enable it in Pro-Mode. Is that actually impossible? In normal (automatic) mode it works fine in relevant situations
Yeah, it's disabled in pro mode.
Very informative appreciate that bro✌🏻
Glad it helped!
Hi, Can I do this on the galaxy A8
ahmed mohammad you can, but it's limited to ISO, White Balance and Exposure Compensation only
I do believe that phone has a pro mode.
Brent Hall yes it does, but the feature is limited
which tripod would you use for a Note 9?
I'd love to get one for better results, but I don't really trust any with a 1000+ euro smartphone...
I use a benro slim. The link should be in the video description.
@@BrentHall thank you very much, will have a look at it!
Thanks a lot, learned many things.
You're welcome, I'm glad I could help!
My pro Mode vanished after i deinstalled some apps. Can someone Help me Findling this app again
If you have android pie, then video pro mode is not coming back.
Brent Hall i had android 8 i think and about 3 hours later it appeared again like it never vanished. i still dont know how. i didnt even have internet
How do you click the silky effect for waterfalls in daylight because the shutterspeed at 10 seconds will produce a white image in proper daylight, how do I go about that?
Here is a video for that from him : ruclips.net/video/LT_ClbVvO7Q/видео.html
Good luck!
Oh I see, thank you so much all of you, I'll try that the next time!
Hi, kindly give us a video using pro mode in samsung s8.
What to Activate Aperture option ?
Click on the shutter speed icon, and then the aperture number will show up there and you can select which aperture you want to use.
I just subscribe amazing review good explanation you actually showed how to use them and explain whst each setting means thanks alot
Hey, thanks man, I appreciate that! Glad I could help! 😀😄
Awesome!! Very helpfull👍👍
Thanks man, glad to hear it! 😀
nice tutorial.. you gained 1 more subscriber here.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that!
very nice brent
Thank you!😃🙏
I see a lot of people using Filmic Pro for videos, I have shot a few on that app, and it's great. Do you really use the native camera app?
Yeah, I only use the native app for filming videos on my phone. I find it to be by far the most reliable, and it has pretty much everything I need to make cinematic videos.
Any idea why my camera app freezes when I use pro mode + longest exposure?
I don't know. I've heard a few people mention having this problem, but I haven't had it yet. You might resetting your camera settings, and maybe even wiping your phone's cache if it still does it after that.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge
You're welcome, thanks for watching!
Editing software link doesn't work.
Whoa, that's weird...thanks for the heads up!
I don't have a record option in pro mode. Why do u think that is. Im using s9
Why tht +/- logo is disabled if shutter speed is 10 sec its goes +2 automatically ND make whole photo white help me plzzzz
great video! thank you!
You bet man! thanks for watching! 😀🙏
What is that light metering
Its the cameras way of telling you if an image is properly exposed or not
That was helpful thank you.
You're welcome, thanks for watching!
idk whats wrong with my phone but for the standard thing mine does not work like that
Thank you for your video!
