It’s funny that you mention dynamic range specifically, since that is where the iPhone X actually still beats the Note 9. The Note 9 has an awesome camera that ups the game over the iPhone X in a few other areas though.

This was a photographer review of the note 9 and you used the camera in auto mode all the time, even when you shot video. It gives me migraine every time i have to tell people that the great thing about Samsung phones is the pro mode option. It's insanely awesome to shot in raw. A different beast

Preordered mine, getting it next week. Will preorder the case too :) It is expensive but I like the S Pen. I hope they won't kill the Note line or of so they put the S pen into S series phones. I find it very usefull.
Hey! Loved this. It confirmed my feelings. I was a note 8 user and was constantly bummed with the camera, after coming from iPhone 7plus. I have the Note 9, and wasn't expecting much, but it's camera and especially video blew me away out of the gate! I've been super happy with it.
Renzo C But stock Android is still playing catch up. A phone like the Note 9, in terms of UI and features, is already like 2 OS versions ahead of stock Android Pie. It still gets security updates monthly. That's why Samsung doesn't break their necks trying to update to the next version of Android immediately. But instead they're refining an already superior experience. The late Android updates for Samsung are blown out of proportion.

I think you guys didn't use the dual aperture system, you can change that too from the camera app. (Unless you did use it without mentioning it) I am trying to get one on sponsorship. For the camera of course.
It is automatic yes, but it is also manually activated too, at least it is how it works in S9. And the results, as many reviewers showed during those tests, are improved, sharper I believe in many cases during the day-time. So, just wanted to know how that system is working in Note 9, in the hands of Moment. :)

yeah a camera that charges rapidly and has wireless charging able to make call you can even play songs and mostly best display in a smartphone and still comes with a headphone jack...you also have bixby in there and even stereo speakers

I was wondering if you guys could do a sunset comparison video with the various top-tier phones. Every time I take a photo of a pink sunset or sunrise, it comes out orange, so I'm wondering if this is an iPhone issue or a smartphone issue and it'd be nice to see how each phone handles the colors of a sunset.
I have been shooting with the s9 plus and moment wide(+ sirui telephoto) and the results are absurdly good for a cell phone. People can't believe the quality. Not something you want to be using for professional work but I have been having so much fun with it. Definitely overly sharpened but not a deal breaker or anything. Colors are stupid good. I have to disagree with you gents saying that the 960 fps is useless, it is actually fantastic in the right situations, you just need a fast moving subject, and the regular slomo is also amazing. Keep doing what you are doing, you guys are awesome.

Been a pro photog since 1980. Used everything from Minox, to Leica, to Canon, film and digi, largest and smallest formats. Sold all my cameras and lenses after I got this Note 9 and came out way ahead, in every way. This phone has the best camera I have ever used. Especially in low light. Being a night photog mostly, that matters the most. Beats the top of the line Canons I sold, and fits in the pocket. Top of the heap, hands down.

I needed a new phone on short notice and it needed to have the S-pen, as I use it for editing in Snapseed. I got the Note 9 a couple days ago and am loving it. I'm a beginner to photography but eager to learn more. I previously had the Note 4. Price tag notwithstanding, the Note 9 blows the 4 out of water in photo quality. If it doesn't break the bank, I would recommend it. One thing that may bother you is the edges of the screen are curved/beveled. Screen protectors won't completely fit right, causing bubbles, and when shooting it will take some getting used to. After acclimating, I've found it negligibly effects my user experience, but your mileage may vary.
i had a Note 5. loved it. Note 7 came out, starting blowing up. Switched to a Pixel XL. Loved my Pixel XL...thought I was going to wait until Pixel 3XL to get a new phone...pre-ordered a Note 9 today.
Nice video, I have the note 9 and would like to add that the Galaxy S5 has more resolving power and a bigger sensor. That being said, the N9 does have more dynamic range. One thing I have noticed that nobody seems to be talking about is the N9's ability to shoot RAW... You get an image that is 23 MP vs. 2.3 MP in JPEG.... Much more sharpness and noise. I will be trying this out in good lighting conditions with a low ISO. Should mention this only works in pro mode and needs to be turned on in the menu..... Would love to hear your opinions on shooting RAW, thought your video framing was excellent...

yeah a camera that charges rapidly and has wireless charging able to make call you can even play songs and mostly best display in a smartphone and still comes with a headphone jack...you also have bixby in there and even stereo speakers

I kind of wish I would've waited for the Note 9, seeing these photos, but the iPhone X is doing alright for the moment. I was wondering if you guys could do a sunset comparison video with the various top-tier phones. Every time I take a photo of a pink sunset or sunrise, it comes out orange, so I'm wondering if this is an iPhone issue or a smartphone issue and it'd be nice to see how each phone handles the colors of a sunset.
SophiaPetrillosBuddy it's a white balance issue. Shoot in manual mode and adjust the settings until you get the picture as you see it in real life.
The Moment App lets you shoot manual :)
Adam Seeley, I could never replicate the colors 100% when I used manual mode on the Galaxy S6, but I will try it with my iPhone.

I have been shooting with the s9 plus and moment wide(+ sirui telephoto) and the results are absurdly good for a cell phone. People can't believe the quality. Not something you want to be using for professional work but I have been having so much fun with it. Definitely overly sharpened but not a deal breaker or anything. Colors are stupid good. I have to disagree with you gents saying that the 960 fps is useless, it is actually fantastic in the right situations, you just need a fast moving subject, and the regular slomo is also amazing. Keep doing what you are doing, you guys are awesome.
I would just buy a $1000 mirrorless camera. And a mid range phone.

The note 9 isn't $1300. The everyday note9 to be purchased is $1000. Only $40 more than the Note 8. And if a phone is traded in, it's down to $550.

Been a pro photog since 1980. Used everything from Minox, to Leica, to Canon, film and digi, largest and smallest formats. Sold all my cameras and lenses after I got this Note 9 and came out way ahead, in every way. This phone has the best camera I have ever used. Especially in low light. Being a night photog mostly, that matters the most. Beats the top of the line Canons I sold, and fits in the pocket. Top of the heap, hands down.
That camera really captured Seattle nicely especially considering the wildfire haze. And that sunset, wow!

I always appreciated Samsung colours (I am an iPhone user) and now the overall quality is there too! These are all worthy devices to own and for me personally the operating system is the factor which keeps me (happily) with Apple. Happy shooting with anything you have! A
I needed a new phone on short notice and it needed to have the S-pen, as I use it for editing in Snapseed. I got the Note 9 a couple days ago and am loving it. I'm a beginner to photography but eager to learn more. I previously had the Note 4. Price tag notwithstanding, the Note 9 blows the 4 out of water in photo quality. If it doesn't break the bank, I would recommend it.
One thing that may bother you is the edges of the screen are curved/beveled. Screen protectors won't completely fit right, causing bubbles, and when shooting it will take some getting used to. After acclimating, I've found it negligibly effects my user experience, but your mileage may vary.
i had a Note 5. loved it. Note 7 came out, starting blowing up. Switched to a Pixel XL. Loved my Pixel XL...thought I was going to wait until Pixel 3XL to get a new phone...pre-ordered a Note 9 today.
Nice video, I have the note 9 and would like to add that the Galaxy S5 has more resolving power and a bigger sensor. That being said, the N9 does have more dynamic range. One thing I have noticed that nobody seems to be talking about is the N9's ability to shoot RAW... You get an image that is 23 MP vs. 2.3 MP in JPEG.... Much more sharpness and noise. I will be trying this out in good lighting conditions with a low ISO. Should mention this only works in pro mode and needs to be turned on in the menu.....
Would love to hear your opinions on shooting RAW, thought your video framing was excellent...
