    What I love about it is that the bed and the pocket spaces work without requiring an unrealistic level of decluttering or effort, because otherwise in practice it never happens. I've known so many people in studio apartments that really only put their bed away when someone's coming over, because it's too much work to make the bed and fold it back into the couch. I love that you don't even have to make the bed to put it away, and it's no more effort than opening your blinds in the morning. Keeping the coffee table cleaned off is reasonable, while the side tables and bookshelves can have stuff that is left in place. Likewise, you don't have to clean up your office to close it, you just have to keep the floor space clear, which is reasonable. Shifting the empty floor space around is genius.

    The thing about these designs, is that while housing is getting more expensive, installing these systems is probably prohibitively expensive.

      Bed is 16000$ according to google. In my country they make it for years, similar but manual power (with counter weights so it is easy to move), in 2014 it cost 1500eur, around 1700$. 16000$ is frankly ridiculous, but even at that price it might be worth it in many places. Lets say you save 10m2 just with just a bed, that might be worth 100k.

    I am amazed, particularly by the office space. It is a certain way for a person who works from home to be able to leave work mentally and physically. All spaces were beautiful and functional.

    • @theaeon
      @theaeon 2 года назад +1

      And the great thing is all of the spaces seem usable at the same time! Sure, they will be smaller, but you can watch TV, work in the office and even go into the closet or use the table on the back wall of the closet at the same time!
      So you could have two people working there at the same time. Idk, i'm just astounded by how clever and convenient (especially compared to other tiny, converting apartments that are manuelly operated) this is.

  • @Bobrogers99
    @Bobrogers99 2 года назад +33

    I've seen other videos of "gimmicks" to use space in more than one way, but this is a practical application that works effortlessly. The technology and mechanics would make it expensive, especially with this high quality of construction, but it succeeds in making a small apartment bigger.

    Truly an amazing use of space! Probably the most efficient micro-studio I've seen. My apartment is 320 sq ft, but it feels much smaller than this. The apartment building began its life as a hotel, and the apartments are simply converted hotel rooms. I've seen these features in another building on the upper west side, in West Harlem, all kitted out with the same cantilevered bed and walk-in closet. I wish we could have seen the kitchen and bathroom. Otherwise, I would rent one of these apartments in a heartbeat.

    • @listed

      The bathroom and kitchen are standard and unchanged. Their site shows all the different variations they've done to studio, 1br, 2br in a ton of cities across the US. I was interested myself in the price and saw they actually have them in my city Columbus Ohio and Ohio never gets new things first! Very cool. I was thinking Japan and other counties that are tech forward and highly populated must be doing this already

    What a great idea! I am claustrophobic and I couldn't see me living in a small space like that EVER. I had an 800 sq. ft. house one time with two people living in it altogether and after a few years I felt closed in. We bought a 1000 sq.ft. house until I moved again. Anyway, the ideas are very innovative and VERY practical. I am sure that you will get a lot of clients ordering your units; especially if they like living and working in the big cities which have small living quarters. All of the best for you and your company. I am sure that you will do very well. Thanks for show casing this for us.

    I spent 10 months travelling in an RV as a disabled person and it was really difficult to keep up with transforming the space every time you wanted to transition to a new activity. It's n o big deal until your body craps itself, right, but then all of a sudden it is. It made me realize at a younger age than most how a deteriorating body creates challenges for the space you've come to call home. I've had an eye for real estate that one could age in place in ever since. This is just next level. I love it. I would like to know about cost because if I could put this much functionality into a space I can afford on disability that would be very helpful.

    ...Great that someone is working to explore compact space solutions, however a key element making this particular apartment feel "big" is the view, which most likely 2% of NYC apts is fortunate to have...envision there is a red brick wall 4 feet outside the window, and suddenly it feels just as cramped as every regular NYC space...I would also say that the wood slat concept around the sofa and bed is visually exhausting, and rather use a flat surface material will make the section look even more integrated and spacial...my 2 cents. 😄

      I agree with the view! For me the office looked cluttered with these hundreds of shelfes. If its the only design i would have so cut out some stuff by myselv 😅

    OMG! I love this. I love everything about this. Is there a website, a catalogue or some way to look at the entire collection of pieces? I hope this has won some design awards. It is absolutely brilliant on every level. Has this been incorporated into any Tiny Homes? Also is this certified by ADA? The ease of operation, the safety features & the open concept of the space makes it a great solution for those with disabilities. As an interior designer I haven't seen anything I am this excited about. Truly life changing.

      The link to their website is in the description where you can see all the different variations they've done in all the cities across the US. I was pretty interested myself, very cool!

    The ceiling bed is a beautiful idea but you need to have a high ceiling.

    Love the apartment. Here in U.K. older flats struggle with space in kitchens but we have more generous sized livingroom and bedroom but lack the space for eating and entertaining friends due to the kitchen size. These solutions would work as they would offer the separation of dining in a livingroom space and like just watching tv for instance. The new builds in U.K. would be more like what we see on this video.

    This is just incredible. I am in total love with this space !! I've lived in studio apts in Manhattan and one bedrooms, and frankly I loved them all, but this is just kicking it up a notch or two.........just great, well, the view does help, let's admit it.

    ah yes, something to make expensive tiny apartments even tinier and more expensive, sounds like a great plan during a massive housing crisis
