    A little longer than the past video's(I tried to keep it short), but we're talking about two different types of alternators.
    It's important to always have the facts BEFORE you make your purchase. There is no perfect alternator! It's amazing how selecting the correct tool for the job makes everything work correctly.
    Remember, know the facts up front and don't be hustled by "numbers". FACTS NOT FICTION!!!

    Great information in this video. I always say, if you need big big amps(whatever the application, rv, solar backup, audio, ect), get a large case hairpin, or bust.
    Quick question, and I should probably call about this, but maybe it'll help others with Toyota's. The "other guys" make a large case hairpin for the 2az-fe engine in a Scion TC(2008), it also fits many other Toyota's of the same era, such as - rav 4, highlander, camry, corolla. Is it possible to have a large case made? I only see a small case 240 for these rides. I've always ran mechman(small case), but my application absolutely requires a large case. More like two, but I have room for only 1. Tell me to call ya, and I will, if you don't want to answer here. I have a couple large builds coming up, and will have my customers order from you, I would LOVE to place another mechman order along with them, for a top quality large case for my personal build. I've had nothing but good experience with mechman, and would rather give you my business. Y'all have definitely earned it. The other place also makes very high quality alts, and does high volume, large accounts, and I'd probably have to wait a while. Seeing how y'all take care of us "little guys" with one off applications and one time sale(due to your high quality) I'd rather have me a mecky under my hood. Can you guys do a large case for me? I'll probably sell a couple on too of my one off? If it can be done! Anyway, thanks for the informative videos lately, I REALLY like learning anything I can, and these help because I can point someone to the video, and justify the added price in a large install. You DO get what you pay for sometimes, and in my opinion, I and others definitely get our $ worth with these units. Holler!

    Great video...the cb radio guy's are using your alternators large CB amplifiers... many of the CB guys would like to see your 370 or 400 amp models as 3-phase AC... 3 AC taps... as quite a few guys running AC tube amplifiers in their Vans or Suburban

      @@1-Six-dee I had one of those alternators, looked great, nice black finish, thought I had what I needed. Cabled up with copper 1/0, and did testing with a 2000 watt pure sine inverter to run a large air compressor in my superduty. As soon as it got to temp, voltage tanked under heavy load. The rectifier was the weak point. Idle output was not good either, even with a 46mm pulley. I switched to a large case 250 "hairpin" and the difference is crazy. If I have ANY RPM on the large case, it'll hold whatever voltage I have it set to, under full load. The other unit had a hard time holding voltage at high RPM, this large case way outperforms it at dead idle. Runs cooler, draws less mechanical energy(saving you fuel and wear), while making more electrical power.
      Absolutely zero comparison. Large case or bust. Mechman makes some really good alternators, I've had several that I have torture tested, and never had a problem.

      Currently, no. We are developing a Marine based unit now and once thats ran through the torture testing it'll trickle down into the 2.3's for the Ranger fitment.

    I got a 2001 Jeep Cherokee XJ 4.0L and bought a Mechman 170 amp alternator bout 10 years ago and has always charged good. But lately my serpentine belt has been slipping under load (A/C on, cooling fan running, rear defrost etc). I can hear the slipping is coming from the alternator pulley and im just wondering if the pulley is just worn down because the pulley turns freely by hand. I also heard going back to a larger or stock size pulley can help eliminate belt slippage.

    • @mechmanalternators
      @mechmanalternators  Год назад +1

      Sounds like you just need some more tension on the belt. Or, if you do lots of offroading your belt can actually be contaminated from dirt/debris/chemicals.

    • @blueblade455
      @blueblade455 Год назад

      @@mechmanalternators The belt does seem to constantly loosen up a bit every so often and I always end up tightening it, in which it does have a temporary better result but eventually I'll end up replacing the belt just after a year or so. It's my daily street driver, no offroading. I think I might try a 2002 Dodge Durango reman 160 amp alternator as it should be the same size case as my Mechman alternator is, which is a popular swap for XJ owners. Especially since I had to grind my mounting brackets to make the Mechman fit.

      @@mechmanalternatorsJust wanted to give an update on my belt slipping issue. I verified that the original aluminum 44mm pulley grooves have worn the pulley down to a little less than 42mm and was causing my belt to slip. I purchased and installed the black anodized 46mm one from your website and it fit perfectly. No more belt slipping! Just wish you guys made a steel version in that same size.But like you mentioned 10 years is a long time and this alternator is still kicking! If it does ever die, I'm definitely purchasing your 240 version. Thank you!

      These guys can't tell you what you need if you give them a vague list of add-ons. Get a current clamp. And look at the specs of the equipment you're putting on there. Test everything for current pull individually, except for your amplifiers. There's plenty of amp dyno videos out there. You can figure out what those will need at max.
