Bloody hell, he is singing more wrong notes than I can count. Catching Dreamsonic later this month... I love Dream Theater, but I have never heard James sound so wiped out and not in control before. Not sure I'll stay for their performance if it's like this. Singers know they have finite years before they have to stand down and I hope he has the guts to bow out for the sake of the band.
OMG, a band with such perfection standards and they allow John to sing like this. Bloody hell that was like a dying cat yelling out for help. I can’t no more.
I thought they were playing this in drop tuning lately but they played it in standard for Dream sonic! (Edit: at least some of the shows. Some videos from the tour show they played it in drop tuning. May have to do with how Labrie is feeling that night.)
I wish they'd play it down a half or full step---there's no shame in doing so when you have an aging singer with 30+ years of touring on those pipes. Bruce Dickinson doesn't have the range he had in his prime, and you never hear anybody criticize him for it. People age and lose their range. Its pretty much inevitable.
Bruce doesn't sound like a barking dog when he sings, he also had cancer in his throat. After the surgery and treatment he still sounds 10 times better than this dude.
@@arthurguitarra87 as soon he has to hit the high notes in "Run To The Hills" or "Aces High" he sounds very tortured. They had to tune their gtrs. down at least 15 years ago but it never happend. It sounds painful to my ears.
What the band can do: 1. Down-tune the songs 2 full steps lower 2. Learn how to do proper ad-libs like Geoff Tate (he's also not what he used to be but compared to this guy, he actually makes an effort to compensate his lack of range with his ad-libs) 3. If steps 2 and 3 fail, muster the courage/have the balls to stand up to your friend and tell him the hard news that you're moving on from him not as friends/family but as professionals. What the fans can do: 1. Continue to be in-denial and blame everything else (the phone quality, the mix, the venue & the haters) 2. Stop buying tickets
I wonder if the guys in Dream Theater have ever listened to Genesis live in 2007 or 2021/2022, where they managed to pull off a decent showing with Phil Collins singing against the songs played in lower keys. Dream Theater needs to start considering how to maintain the sound, and maybe add a new twist, as the vocal range changes. This isn’t 1992 or even 2012.
Would it be better if he used backing soundtrack and Auto-Tune something to help him a little bit because it's not his fault that as you get older, it's not the same voice as 30 years ago
James seems off all around, even his energy isn’t him. I think he needs a break honestly… they came off of their top of the world tour and straight to dreamsonic. Thats a lot on any vocalist. .. just saw them in CT on June 30th and this was not the same James I saw last March!!
@@Jerseyboondocks ? Excuse me? He could have simply QUIT. If you're rubbish and you're being a burden to everyone then it's the honorable thing to BOW OUT. What we're seeing with Dream Theater is SICK! They go ON AND ON with a singer who can't sing anymore and it's horrible.
Yeah there's a lot of metal shows that I have went to as a female. I was in the minority of maybe like 5% female 95% male but that's common at these kind of shows but I thought dream theater would attract way more females
This was my first time seeing Dream Theater and my friend and I almost fell asleep! This was the only good song they played, John did a 20 minute solo with one finger and a green prairie in the background, and then we thought a keyboard battle was happening, but they really just played Amazing Grace at half speed. Like, wtf??? Theu clearly took the easy way out, Pull Me Under doesnt even have a long or difficult solo. Vocals were dreadful. Devin Townsend basically saved the show and he was who I was originally least excited to see.
I just saw the same show at Madison Square garden theater and I too felt James was a bit off in singing. But the show was still really good Townsend was very good as well.
I can’t explain to you how much my body relaxed when Devin Townsend came in for their last song. I didn’t realize how on edge I was from the wrong notes LaBrie was singing until Devin fixed it and I felt at peace for a moment lol
good joke thanks. everyone loves the music but hates the singing of a singer who desperately needs to be replaced ASAP! just read the comments. No-one wants James in this band anymore.
James isn't just struggling. I think his voice was very beautiful, but if this is his current singing, then i'm afraid to say that it has dreadfully deteriorated. It's not hate to genuinely be disappointed because James is battling the effects of age in his singing. Everyone must retire at some point.

Stay man. Just saw it last night. They were the best of the three bands by far. Even with James being off. It’s not as apparent live
The disrespect to Animals as Leaders. They saved the night and they were first.
@@austinbramer558sounded awesome to me!
02:50 James’ voice can longer handle these operatic passages.
How was it?
My favorite song of all time, and I absolutely can't listen to it anymore. James has been done for a long time.

They allowed John Myung to sing here as back up because James cabt do it? Wow.

Vince Neil don't sound so bad now
James sounded great when I saw them last week.
The band should really consider down tuning to at least E flat or D. A lot of professional singers do this to save their vocal cords
They were back and forth depending on the show. They played it a half step lower some nights and in standard other nights.
They should consider replacing the vocalist at this point, really
James is like drunk or something.

Ouch 😮
non of those drinks are working either - doesn't matter how much of them he drinks
Oh man. What can we do about the vocal situation…
Accept, my friend, that hurts less. This problem is visible, oops, audible since Distance Over Time Tour.
I think there is a time when musicians should just leave well enough alone. This is not 1995's James Labrie's voice. Horrible!
Try for Russell Allen lol.
Stop paying for tickets.

They need Carlos Zema or Dino Jelusick to come in and sing. I don't understand how LaBrie can go up and embarrass himself like that.

they know a lot about music but they don't know how to lower a key so James can sing
At least he is singing live.
James might as well just turn all DT songs into rap. It's less embarrassing and it's pretty much what he's doing in the high parts anyways.
Lol, DT with some Rap Metal.
How can James sleep at night knowing what he's done to the fans and the band?
Come on. It's not like he can help it!

Why do they play the song in that key? It should be way lower. Labrie has no even chance to hit those notes.
