I had an itch to hear this song again, and I randomly saw this video and my first thought was "oh boy, from 2019? I'm nervous." Then I heard it being played in the original key, and then I thought "I don't know if that relaxes me or makes me more nervous." Then I see James look like he's swatting a fly or something, alright, sure. Little more nervous now. Then he kills it nearly the whole way through.
I know, it was pretty insane to see him sing it this well in the original key. Probably the best vocal performance of this song I've heard from him in a long time
@@Dinozzo1995 Relative to 93? It's not great. Relative to 5 or 10 years ago? It's a major improvement. Guy has gotten so much shit for his vocals, but a vocal chord rupture (food poisoning incident in 94) is no joke and hard to come back from. Especially when you have the kind of range James had. He's made so much improvement, and I'm personally hoping with the year off due to covid, he will be back sounding great.
Hey...Mike Mangini. NASA called, they said your cymbals are too high up. They are interfering with low altitude test flights and aliens trying to land at Area 51
You gotta give it to him... Labrie used to sing fucking amazingly in the early 90's, but since the food poisoning, his voice went to shit, but now you can clearly hear a lot of recovery, I'd say time, practice and dedication
The food poisoning thing is obviously bullshit. If you just hear him perform Pull Me Under over the years, you’ll notice how his voice gradually gets worse and worse. And this is AFTER his ‘food poisoning’ incident. It isn’t some freak accident. Consistent bad technique killed his voice
@@sahirkhan2835 are you out of your mind?He literally ruptured his vocal cords and you are telling THe FOoD pOIsonING iS BuLlShiT? Open your ears and see bootlegs of the band from 1994.Then compare it with 1995:)
@@odysseaslag8567 I did that, it’s an obvious lie. Watch some of the many compilations of his singing year on year. He was getting worse and worse BEFORE the ‘food poisoning’ incident. His technique is awful, his diction is sloppy, he’s a persistent strainer. That’s what killed his voice. Even if we ignore that, you’re claiming that a food poisoning incident irreparably ruptured his vocal cords? Ok so then his voice should fall off a cliff in 1995, right? Except it doesn’t at all. He may have felt the strain on his voice but he was able to hit the same notes and in quite a similar style to 1994. His voice is doing the same things and he is singing the same way. It was him ignoring the advice of a doctor and going on a tour that really did it. Years of bad technique is going to kill your voice. On top of that, you claim you got vocal damage? And you’re going to sing badly on top of that? You are fucked. LaBrie then says his voice had fully returned by 2003. But if you go watch his performances in 2003, they are no different to any of his performances, pre or post ‘food poisoning’ incident. You seem to not understand how the voice works so here’s some knowledge (that you can go and verify if you want to). Some vocal damage (like polyps and modules) is not fixable. If you get that far, it means game over eg. Robert Plant. Even then, it’s not too late to learn good technique and make the most of your new range. In fact, a singer definitely should because it is healthier and just sounds better. But the damage has still made a mark and your voice will never be the same. EVERYTHING ELSE is recoverable through vocal therapy, training, and rest. If you can hit the same notes (which LaBrie still can) then you can learn to hit them in a healthy way. But LaBrie never did. He never rested his voice when he said he needed to, and he never ever trained to be a better singer. It’s not surprising that he’s never been any good. He has probably lost notes and caused vocal damage NOW. But in 1995? No. He still clearly had a lot to work with and to work on. But he didn’t. You can hear all of this in his voice. It doesn’t change, it’s always been pretty sloppy, from 1991 to now. It’s very easy to blame a food poisoning incident but it’s really shifting the blame from LaBrie’s poor management of his voice.
@@sahirkhan2835 Its a combination of bad technique and poisoning..You dont have to be an expert to understand that.Yes indeed He had bad technique but his accident was the icing in the cake.So I am NOT telling it was ONLY the accident the thing that destroyed his voice. But you cant call the whole thing bullshit. He literally started the tour immidiately after the food poisoning with ruptured vocal chords.I guess you agree with what i wrote.
@@odysseaslag8567 Anyone who claims the food poisoning thing ruined his voice is wrong, simple as that. Accidents happen all the time but they are rarely so bad that they can’t be recovered. Do you hear Robert Plant going around saying ‘the British weather killed my voice’ ?? He killed his own voice by being reckless than not doing anything to repair it. Bad health and bad technique killed LaBrie’s voice. Accidents happen. You fail if you just let them and whine. Even if he absolutely had to do a tour after the food poisoning incident, he could have rested his voice and gotten singing lessons to improve after. He didn’t. It’s that simple.
