I am a BIG fan of Mangini, he is hands down one of the most technical drummers on the planet and I think DT did him dirty, but I gotta admit that the vibes are completely different with Portnoy, he is a showman. Very charismatic.
LaBrie is a bigger problem .But they "raped" him from the very start , trying to put him on shoes of vocalists like Midnight, Tate and so on... He's never had enough power to be a true metal vocalist .

Guy has been trying to push his voice to the old ranges he can't reach anymore, straining it more, instead of just being creative with where his voice is at now. Nobody is gonna care if the vocal melody is a little different if it keeps him from going flat constantly. It would be fresh. Petrucci has has to change his solos to get through them and no one says anything because he incorporates more selective picking to make it still sound good.

In terms of music, it hasn't changed, it's still the same as in 2005, but what makes it unpleasant to listen to is James Lebrier's voice, but the enthusiasm for James Lebrier's vocals is good job.

Il n’y a pas que le fait qu’il ne puisse plus monter aussi haut avec sa voix mais James La Brie bien qu’il n’ait jamais été très juste en concert est vraiment pitoyable maintenant et est énervant au possible. Vraiment dommage qu’il ne soit pas au niveau de ces virtuoses.

Look at that beautiful Jp15 7 string! I tried to like the Majesty, owned a beautiful one, I just didn’t love it, couldn’t get into it, maybe the neck shape difference and/or semi thru/set neck combo whatever it is. Went back to the OG Jp line. I get that the majesty is cool and it’s his own design but he shouldn’t phase out the Jp’s just for the sake of making his design more popular. It’s actually not the body shape that put me off it’s the neck, it’s slightly different in shape and thickness. His next evolution from the Jp bolt on should have been a neck thru if he wanted a higher fret reach clearance.
I bought my ticket for México City but after seeing these shows with LaBrie singing like shit I just sold it. I don't know how they could keep a straight face and smile like nothing happened...
I dont know why james doesn't mildly use auto tune live. No shame in it, really. It's not like james has a vocal tech to switch his vocal chords every song to make sure he's in tune, Like a guitar tech.
He did during the Mangini era and was caught, They also tried with backing tracks and James lipsyncing the leads and he was also caught (in a web-site? haha) they stopped it because it looked pretty stetchy and damaged the band's image.
I feel this is slightly unfair to him. Even a band as good as Rush down tuned their songs as age caught up to them. James isn't 25 anymore. He's 61. And he's given us great music for more than 30 years. I feel singing in a lower octave suits him really well. He already sounds better here than their first show in London. I think DT really need to play with their strengths and play an octave lower because even though James can't hit those high F# notes anymore, he still shines on songs that don't require him to go as high.
