The camera-man was there. But the diirector was sleeping! (they decide which camera-source should be used for broadcast). This is actually pretty tough for someone, unfamiliar with the band, to do in a live setting.
Can we stop comparing musicians' skills? It doesn't matter who shreds the fastest if their music is shit, in the same way it doesn't matter someone can't shred if they make good stuff. The whole point of being a musician is first of all making music.

Comparing 2 musicians doesn't make any sense.
the backing tempo it´s the same, the thing is that Petrucci used more delay on his solo, making it sound like there are another 100 extra notes flying around.
They sound good live but I think the reason for what you think is that they kinda have a habit of going a little overkill with overdubs for the studio versions and you'd miss that when you hear the song live if that makes any sense.

They are both metal/rock bands, I could compare them if I wanted to. Some people like Dream Theater, some people like Avenged Sevenfold and some people like both bands. Both bands have very talented musicians in them who are very good at what they do. It is impossible to say that one is better than the other. As I said before, music is subjective.
