    These are great planes. Anybody looking for one in the US at the moment will have better luck picking up a kit for the SkySurfer on valuehobby, which is basically the same plane. It is a kit though so you have to source all the parts and glue the whole thing together, but that's no big deal.
    If you shopped well you could probably have one rtf minus batteries for about 100 bucks.

    One of my first planes was a Bixler 1.1. I agree, it's a very forgiving plane in many ways which is good think for those starting out. As you mentioned, reinforcing the fuselage including the aft part of the fuselage is a great upgrade as after some harder than planned landing will produce cracks which eventually lead to breaks. I also went to a 2200kv motor on 4S for those times I want to get to altitude quickly or make a fast flyby. Providing cooling air into the fuselage was accomplished with a soldering iron simply poked into the nose just below the tip. One caveat with this plane, and those like it, is the typical dip down towards the ground after launch. Launching into the wind is best but that's not always possible so I add a bit of up trim on the elevator, then once flying put the trim back to normal flight mode. Great video (as always! :) )

    • @DutchRC
      @DutchRC  6 лет назад

      Thanks brother :)
      there are indeed some usefull mods for this plane, but that's just fine I think.. I don't really understand why it doesn't have an air-intake stock by the way.. I guess HK likes selling replacement ESC's :D Easy mod though...
      Cheers & thanks for stopping by!

    I knew you always wanted Stuart's job! LOL. Yes the price is good and looks to be a tough plane and easy to fly with the pusher style. I think a beginner plane though should included a TX/RX and battery because if you know nothing that stuff will be a bit confusing and intimidating. The XK a900 is super easy and gyros help you. I learned how to fly with the nine eagles sky 500 and that's almost unbreakable and super easy to fly also. cheers buddy and congrats on the hobbyking daily youtube channel ;-P

    • @DutchRC
      @DutchRC  6 лет назад

      LOL :D Sooooooo did you buy one? DID YOU BUY ONE???
      :@ :@ :@ :@ :@
      The Bix 3 IS available with TX & lipo I think.. It WAS when I started the channel (some of my first video's were on that plane :))
      I don't know.. If a bit of research is to much to ask for.. That's pretty samn easy these days :) But sure.. it's easier to buy an all-in-one set..

  • @StephenFarthing
    @StephenFarthing 5 лет назад +1

    Thanks for this. I’m thinking of taking up the hobby. What would be nice is an explanation of some of the terms like FPV which personally I haven’t a clue about. Radio control flying is way more complicated nowadays compared with what it was when my late father flew.

    • @DutchRC
      @DutchRC  5 лет назад

      Howdy Stephen,
      Yep.. if you want to include the FPV aspect of it things can get (relatively) complicated.. Take it in steps though.. You definately first want to nail the line-of-sight flying bit.. Starting with a flight simulator Or get some help in real life is a good way to go I think..
      And well.. If you have questions.. don't hesitate to ask :)

    Ich bin deinem Rat gefolgt und habe den Bixler gekauft. Alles gut bis auf das Servo für das Höhenruder: kaum hatte ich es in Betrieb genommen, macht es einen Knacks und es bewegte sich nur noch in eine Richtung - defekt. Kurz: Reklamation bei Hobbyking mit Foto. Jetzt bekomme ich sogar 2 neue Servos HXT900 und alles sehr schnell. Die haben an ihrem Service was getan, sehr gut.

  • @mchevalier77

    I have 2 Bixler 1.1s and the props that came with them were way out of balance. A good thing to do is add another reinforcing tube to the wings and glue them in. I've tried several motors and a good upgrade is the Racerstar 2212 1900 with a 6045 3 blade prop or 7 x 4 APC 2 blade and a 4S 2300 Tattu battery.

    • @DutchRC
      @DutchRC  6 лет назад

      Yep.. I would have prefered the plane to come with a nice Master Airscrew.. the real 'probpem' kinda is that NO beginner will have a prop-balancer, or even know what it is :)
      I'm kinda thinking: clip the wings, and maybe 2 EDF's? :)

    • @DutchRC
      @DutchRC  5 лет назад

      Thanks Chip :)
      have you added air-cooling to your Bix? That kinda is the major issue.. So an air-intake in/on the nose and an air outlet somewhere behind the ESC... that'll help quite a bit..

      Hi there again :)
      Well.. the Bixler 1 is the most Sporty of the 3 Bixlers.. So it's faster / more agile.. I'm pretty sure you would like it, but yep.. You can't take off of the ground.. So it really depends on what kind of plane you are looking for :)
      Cheers!

    Very good and complete overview/review of the Bixler 1.1 v2! Thumbs up for sure.
    I would like to note that going this route for beginners will give them serious challenges, particularly for the ones completely new to the rc hobby. Choosing & Setting up a model in a radio, attaching esc on the outside fuselage, limited access to the internals etc. might seem like easy stuff for experienced rc hobbyists, but for me was way too challenging at the start. Complete beginners don't even know what an esc is or what it looks like.
    The lack of out of the box stabilisation is for me one step too far as a first plane.
    I personally got started with an XK 1200 fpv version. Comes with inbuilt stabilisation, an already set-up radio using futaba protocol, very generous access to internals, a lipo offering 20min flight time at least (45min if gliding), no gluing for an even easier transport and it is a pusher plane so all of the crash ability and advantages of the bixler. And cheaper too! Just my two cents.
    As a second, and more upgradeable plane though, YES!!

    • @DutchRC
      @DutchRC  6 лет назад +1

      :D :D
      yes.. good addition to things Alexis..
      Let me tel you how I started my pilots career (has no real baring on this subject though :P) as mentioned in the video my first store-bought plane was a Graupner Rookie.. BUT before that I scratchbuild a few self-designed planes.. Those somehow actually flew :$
      But yeah.. starting out with a Bixler like this.. It does require some researching... Isn't that A1200 a bloody briljant plane by the way? :D My A1200 was quite a bit more then this bixler by the way, but that has probably changed :P

    • @ayiaman
      @ayiaman 6 лет назад

      DutchRC Adventures Wow!! That was mighty courageous of you to start with scratch builds! I can sense the true hobbyist in you. I have not yet attempted a scratch build, but I will one day...
      For those willing to put in the time to learn more from the get go, and those who enjoy tinkering, I would say that the bixler is absolutely a solid base to start with. For the rest, i would advise to check out DutchRC Adventures' videos on the XK 1200. And get yourself started in this incredible side of the hobby. Challenging at times, but oh so rewarding and exhilarating!
      I don't own the Bixler, so i can't really compare it with my XK 1200, but if you guys ask Mr DutchRC nicely, he might do a pros/cons video of these two awesome beginning platforms! Hehehehe
      Either way, if you're on the fence, just follow the links in the video description of this video or the xk1200 video, you will support this great channel (no cost to you) and you will have a blast.... guaranteed! (Coming from a quad pilot)

    • @DutchRC

      :D I kinda didn't have much of a choice.. No RC-flying club around, and I Think (not sure) HobbyKing had just started.. Long story-short: I wanted to do the RC-flying thing, and how hard can it really be :P
      Ohw! This playlist might be of interest to you: ruclips.net/p/PLXgLCadWLBnAz0yTF4oq-P_xqvLVWxRtL
