Knox you faking liking Taylor Swift for views is impressive monetization of your platform I fully approve. Hopefully you can convert some swifties to actual music.
For real! Nothing to fear if you're a genuine, good, sweet person! Even if parted ways & some sadness & a heavy heart follows, still no need to worry. Any song she wrote wouldn't be a diss at you & heck, should be honored to have a TS song about you!😄😉
@knox, coming in late but now that you’ve delved into TSwift, do you ever find yourself just shaking your head at her depth and lyrics? Not while doing the reaction but unexpectedly.
I've always interpreted the "fuck the patriarchy" line as calling out his hypocrisy - he took advantage of Taylor's youth and treated her poorly, despite his performative feminism.
I 1000% agree but I do want to just point out that he was absolutely oblivious to his hypocrisy and could definitely have grown into a more authentic feminist. Only reason I say this is because sometimes people mean well but their immaturity/ego etc gets in the way when they are young. But that doesn't mean they can't be authentic feminists once they grow up some and gain some perspective. Hell, even Taylor had to grow into a more authentic feminist as she got older and realized some of her lyricism and behavior didn't quite represent her feminism in a manner that met her intended standard.
The “fuck the patriarchy” is in quotes so I assume it’s written on his keychain. He’s a Brooklyn hipster with his nod to feminism. Yet he tosses the keys at her and misses. He dates a girl way too young for him and then blames her. He manipulates and gaslights. He shows us that his feminist beliefs are as surface-level as his key chain.
“So casually cruel in the name of being honest” is one of my favorite lines of all of hers. Anyone in a failed relationship knows what that means and how that feels.
I’m sure he said a lot of things that really stung at her age and not being that established yet. If you watch some of her first interviews with Ellen, there’s this very patronizing vibe like how talk shows do segments with middle school kids who are piano or chess virtuosos. Plus, Jake and Maggie were indie flick royalty back then.
Jake Gyllenhaal and Taylor are both Sagittarius, which is the "fire" sign. So "Did the twin flame bruise paint you blue" is a reference to that. She wrote this song in a stream of consciousness, all in one sitting, when she was 21(for her RED album!). She's 34 now. And Jake's girlfriends are still in their 20s. Taylor called that, didn't she? 😉
@@jackie.esqueda89I loveeeeee Taylor Swift since 2008 because we born in Dec 1989, but my birthday is same as Jake Gyllenhaal 19 Dec 😂😂😂😂, ooouh Tay Tay will hate meeeeee 😭😭😭😭
People just hate on her because she’s a super successful female who is so openly vulnerable. Most of their reasons for hating her aren’t even valid because they haven’t listened to her music and don’t know anything about her character and how charitable she is.
Or because she is the definition of basic mainstream dribble and her music doesnt appeal to us. She had some decent tunes in her earlier days when she was more country but i am not into pop music so the transition has pushed me away from her and i never liked much of her earlier work to begin with. Then you also have the subject matter. Not relatable or appealing to me. But mostly for me its the fans- it a bunch of shrieking hive mind boombaclats are telling me i have to love it, its nearly a guarantee i will not. I would rather listen to other female led projects, like Destiny Potatoe, or Jinger, or Spirit Box to name a few. I would rather listen to Erykah Badu, or Lauren Hill. I would rather listen to Diane Ross and the Supremes. You assuming bigotry is the reason people dont like her is exactly why her fans are insufferable. Most people are dumb, so just because a bunch of people like it doesnt make it good. A bunch of people used to like JaRule too😂
@@Brojeejaksonflaxinwaxin I can’t imagine spending so many words on an artist I claim to not like. Surely there’s something better you can do with your time?
This was from the red album. This song is allegedly about Jake Gyllenhaal. You picked up on so much in the song. I hope you react to the Short Film/MV for this song. Taylor wrote and directed it. It gives even more context to the story. Thanks for another great reaction.
As someone who doesn't know much about Taylor (just what I see from Knox Lately and my preteen daughter lol) I have a question after watching this video: The mention of the red scarf, him always having that red scarf, she can't get it back, and the way she let the lyrics hang after she sung something about "I still remember the first..........snow fall or something but let it hang after 'the first' line...was the person she sung about HER FIRST????
Knox, the actress who found Taylor in a party bathroom is either Jennifer Anniston or Anne Hathaway, they both have mentioned running into her in a bathroom around the time of her dating Jake. The story behind how this song was created was amazing. Taylor was rehearsing for the Speak Now tour and she was playing her guitar while venting about the whole relationship. She went on for about ten to fifteen minutes. Her mom went to the sound guy at the venue and got the whole thing on CD because they were recording. The studio made Taylor cut down the song to 5 minutes when it first came out on Red, but told everyone it was originally 10 minutes but no one wants to listen to a 10 minute song. With the re-records, she gave her fans the number one thing they wanted, the full unedited All Too Well. It’s become something of a Swiftie anthem.
Not maggie, she already referenced Maggie at the top of the song. It was Anne - I always had a feeling there was something between them (on and off and secret)
yes, this song has become the default Swiftie favourite song. so when asked what our fave song is, the correct answer is "well, putting aside ATW10mtv........ August/Ivy/Exile is the best song ever"
@@amyholzapfel3851 stfu 💀"it's misogyny" no the fuck it ain't. All her songs are literally about "I broke up with my boyfriend whoa I'm so bad I'm such a rebel I'll make him regret it."
This girl? She’s a true lyricist 🤘 Why does she get so much love and hate? Man, how much time do u have??? Basically: misogyny, jealousy, media narrative, coming up so young, singing about relationships, looking like a stereotypical princess and leaning into that when she was younger and people use that as an excuse to not really listen to what she’s saying. I could on and on. What I’ve found is that people give her art a chance, there’s probably something in her discography that will speak to an experience they’ve gone through. Thanks for giving her the time and respect to actually listen to her art Knox 🦋
For myself, it was more of being a traditional country music fan and her style was more pop. When she transitioned to pop music, I appreciated that because it is more fitting but I still didn't take the time to listen to her music. I'm glad KH is giving me an education, and I agree with him that when story-telling lyrics are superb then that should be respected.
@@Dani-vu7em I can say I am a fan of her music now. KH also got me listening to Miley Cyrus a bit more as well. One of the things that drew me to KH was him getting me back into rap--specifically Eminem and highlighting great lyricism in an age where modern music is lacking it.
Something often goes unnoticed is how at the beginning it's always 'I was there, I remember it' and then it moves into 'you were there, YOU remember it'. And the last section covers both the I and You. A truly haunting love.
I feel like she was gaslit by him and that’s why she keeps saying I WAS THERE I REMEMBER IT, and then “you never called it what it was/ running scared etc” she’s saying YOU WERE THERE YOU KNOW IT WAS REAL, she’s begging him to be honest, to say it maimed him like it maimed her, and THAT was the innocence she lost, the naivety that people you love and experiences they give you aren’t the same for them, you can love someone and feel loved but it’s not real to them like it is to you.
this song is genius and therefore, the best song in the Taylore. and whilst i predict TTPD is going to be my next fave album (sorry Folkore) I still hold out the belief that ATW10mtv will retain its title as best ever song.
Yes, I noticed this too. It's as if he gaslit her into thinking she was too invested and "it wasn't that serious" and she's trying to validate herself because he never gave her the validation but they BOTH know what it was.
Definitely worth checking out the music video/movie she made to go with this song as well as her SNL live performance of it. You can really tell how personal the song is to her when you see her sing it live.
That she took all her friends with her too shows how hard it was. Plus that hug from her backup singers. Watching her sing it now at the Eras tour she seems so healed. I love that for her.
Can we talk about how she just walked into a practice session after this breakup, sat down, and wrote a 10 min song with her guitar on the fly? We're so lucky one of her audio guys recorded it so we could all have the full version today! 🫶🏻 Love watching your videos, Knox, you always catch everything in the lyrics that other reactors miss!
Now you HAVE to watch the short film that Taylor wrote and directed. Not only is it absolutely brilliant but it gives so much more context to the song, and the actors who played "her" and "him" (Sadie Sink from Stranger Things and Dylan O'Brien from Hunger Games) should get Oscars for their performances. It makes me emotional every time I see it. You become so enthralled it feels like you're there and you've just watched a full movie. Stunning camera work too.
Watching the argument is SO uncomfortable. It feels like you're peeking through a crack in the door and watching something that's supposed to be private. It's SO well done.
I’m not a Taylor Swift fan just because it just isn’t the style of music I generally listen to on my own. However, I think it’s completely ridiculous that people hate on her, it’s really not that hard to leave other people to enjoy what they enjoy. She’s beautiful and has a gorgeous voice and writes songs that are meaningful for herself and her fans, it’s just embarrassing jealousy to be online putting effort into writing nasty things about her. Nothing is for everyone. I cheer for her massive success story and hope she and her fans get many more years to have fun together.
The people who hate Taylor are the ones who only know her radio hits. Her catalogue is so incredible and truly showcases that she is a master lyricist and storyteller. I think you would love her songs Tolerate It, Evermore (which I believe to be about her onstage incident with Kanye and the ensuing fallout), and Exile.
Take this song for example. I just don’t like it, it’s not appealing to me and it’s boring (in my opinion) yes I know her big hits, and I enjoy them, but her music that isn’t as mainstream still isn’t something I’d listen to. Some people can know a lot of songs by an artist and still not like their music 😁 it’s all opinion based. That being said some people hate her because they feel she’s completely overhyped (I feel she’s overhyped BUT I don’t hate her).. people who hate just to hate are gonna do that with anyone, don’t take it personal just enjoy her music and not try to tell people she’s amazing if they don’t think that 👍🏻
From people I know personally... Person one: doesn't have a problem with Taylor's music, but sees a lot traits in her that remind him negativly of a bad ex. He knows he's projecting. Person two: has anxiety attacks listening to Into the Woods, which was written to depict anxiety - among others. So can't listen to the music. Person three: doesn't like any lyrical music, which includes TSwift.
@@leigha3083that's the problem because this version (10 mins version) is the song for fans coz it was just a request. But the song itself is not boring especially if you're in heartbreak, this song hits you so hard because Taylor makes it personal
I completely respect people who listen to her music beyond her radio hits and find it’s not for them. (Although I would argue that she has 10 albums and many re-recorded bonus tracks that range in style from country to pop to hip hop to indie folk and there is something for everyone.) It’s the people who see her incessant media coverage, which is WAY TOO MUCH at the moment, and just decide she’s awful and mainstream and over-hyped, etc. None of that is true but she can’t control the media. She just puts her head down and works.
Thank you for teaching me about "Brooklyn broke"! As a non-american, i never caught on to that! But by knowing who this is about and what she says about him in other songs, it makes sooo much sense and there's definitely a double meaning! Been obsessed with you reviews for a while, keep up the good work!
Thanks for explaining "when your Brooklyn broke my skin and bones". I've spent ages trying to figure out if this was literally Brooklyn or a metaphor. It makes so much more sense now!
I will always be intensely jealous of Taylor's songwriting talent. Its like she puts thoughts and feelings I myself have had into beautiful phrases full of imagery, metaphors and deeply philisophical introspection. She is genuinely one of the handful of greatest songwriters of all time.
Haters hate success. I have seen her work on her tour set before the tour and was blown away at how hard she worked. Her drive, skill, and ability is unmatched.
Yes!!! One of my favorites ever. Been waiting for this!! The video with Dylan O Brien and Sadie Sink is incredibly well done too. I recommend watching that, even on your own time.
One of the best Taylor Swift reactions I've seen. You really go deep into the lyrics and catches everything! I love hearing your thoughts on these songs of hers❤
I probably sound so cynical, and I’d like to think I’m wrong, but this reaction reeks of someone who did research ahead of time to me. To hit almost every point like that and ‘get’ it on your first listen is wildly unlikely (especially as someone relstively new to her music), and he appeared at times to be glancing at pre-made notes. It’s not a crime, isn’t that much of a big deal, and it makes for a video that Swifties will absolutely eat up, but it’s something I’ve noticed as a thread through most of his Taylor reactions (making the dollar bill connection in the LWYMMD music video, for example). Some seasoned Swifties might miss things like that on their first listen/watch, but he consistently reacts to them with that disingenuous ‘huh?’ look immediately followed by a clear commentary of what he thinks is being referenced that’s almost always on the nose.
@@hayleyjonessum no?, I've been following his channel since early on, and her breakdown and dissecting lyrics is out of this world. I guess it's natural for someone who is really passionate and loves rap music especially someone who wrote lyrics himself, coz in rap lyrics are everything. you should watch his breakdown to rap music, and you will know what I'm talking about.
I’ve listened to this song so many times and never noticed the brass until now. It reminds me of going back to the soldier metaphor playing Taps at a funeral.
First time listener, and I just want to say that you didn’t miss a single thing! I’m so impressed by how much depth and breadth you managed to achieve in your first listen! Picking up on the hints of an actor, the various double/triple meanings in her lyrics… this is one of her richest songs and you caught it ALL! Well done! Can’t wait to see you react to the short film!
Looping back to say I’ve watched all of your Taylor videos and your Hamilton series and I’m so impressed with your memory, your attunement to the lyrics and emotions, and the appreciation of metaphor and meaning.
The story about this songs creation was told by Swift in an interview. She said after this breakup ( we know now it was JG) she was feeling so bad and on a plane with her 23:34 band. They were jamming without her. She picked up her guitar and started to pour out this song. The band realizing what was happening stopped and picked up the sounds with her. After her mom went to her sound guy( I think) and asked I hope you got a recording of that and he did. Later when putting the album together her mom went to the story board for her upcoming album and said it had to be in it. Taylor is brilliant.
The short film for this song is absolutely beautiful and even more emotional. I think people hate her for no reason, there was a point in her life that she couldn’t stand it and was off the grid for about two or three years.
@@yevgenyalekhinelargo1662 No, no, no. And then she came back with rep. The album where Taylor who had her reputation killed and then came back as the biggest snake attacking and just getting revenge from all of the haters and the celebrities who were the cause of her reputation's death. The lyric "The old Taylor can't come to the phone right now. Why? Oh, cuz she's dead!" from Look What You Made Me Do sums up the entire situation perfectly. The old Taylor (the one that had her reputation destroyed) died, her reputation was destroyed "killing" her. She then "rose from the dead" stronger and better than EVER before with the release of reputation. I could rant longer about how INCREDIBLE reputation is but I have to stop myself.
After watching your video, I realized how good you are at understanding the lyrics. And also interpreting, what it means metaphorically. I bet you were top of your class at literature ! I look forward to watching you listen to Taylor Swift more. Also, please listen to her songs from her later albums
IDK about his literature grades but I watched his Hamilton reaction and he was FANTASTIC with the combination of not only rap but American history knowledge. He told a story about how he aced his AP History exam and it definitely showed in his Hamilton reaction. Knox is an A+ reactor 🤘
He only casually dated her for like 2 months, and she clearly in immaturity got obsessed and incapable of having an adult relationship. Any adult would see why he ran.
@@betsybabf748 um...no. He did pull some really ugly shyt on her. She was only 20 and he was nearly 30. He was the one who should have taken responsibility for not dating someone so young. He also ditched het after promising he'd come to her 21st birthday. That is a shit thing to do to anyone you care about. Even if it's only a friend. They just weren't right for each other at that time.
@@emmavink And here is a novel to prove my point about her mega fans of her same maturity level. Thank you for exhibiting my point. Some of us were married raising families at 20 and most get that a 2 month relationship is not serious by high school.
@@betsybabf748 ok...but she wrote all of this at the time. She and her outlook on relationships has most definitely matured since then. It's just annoying that fans take every word of her lyrics as the only version of the truth when relationships always have two sides.... Except for John Mayer. Fk that groomer. He traumatised her. He can go jump.
@@betsybabf748 also, it's not a flex to have been married with kids so young. That was your choice. Others, including Taylor, made different choices and that is ok too. I only really started getting into her music in 2019, so I'm far from a mega fan 🤷
WOW, I have been a Swiftie forever and know and love this song but how you interpret it was MIND BLOWING!! How you broke it down and not knowing who she was singing about SPOT ON!!! I really enjoyed this!! And I love your music video. THANK-YOU
People who hate her only know her and her music from the surface and just her pop radio songs. When a person dives into her discography, they'll realize and understand why she has a lot of dedicated fans. They might not still like her music (coz music is subjective) but they will definitely RESPECT her, her lyrics, and her art. SHE'S ONE OF A KIND!
This might be the finest song released this century. There is not one false note in the lyrics, the music or the delivery. And the "You kept me like a secret, but I kept you like an oath" is such a brilliant line.
I'm glad you caught the "Brooklyn broke" line. Not many reactors put hat together or even know what that was referencing. Btw, its about Jake Gylenhall.
one of her masterpieces, & i love the way u pause and try to explain and understand each and every metaphoric line, just wow. also, u should definitely give a listen to rep tour performances of i did something bad, don't blame me, gorgeous. the stage presence and her performances are incredible; thank u sm for the Taylor content; keep it coming!
Taylor Swift's lyrics are truly an art form and a very in-depth story that she is telling. I love listening to you break them down. For you as an artist with you not even making this type of music and being able able to think deeply about each and every word and sentence that she's singing and break it down the way that you do is truly an art form for you and I truly appreciate it
jake was 29 and taylor was 20 when they started dating; 16:57 even though he tried to convince taylor that the age gap contributed to the fall out, she points out that he has consistently (to this day) always dated people significantly younger than him (he has a 16yr age gap with his current gf). the twin flame line - this may be a call back to her song "state of grace" on the same album (red), where she talks about having the "twin fire signs" - both taylor and jake are sags (fire signs)
18:13 Brooklyn bones! You just made so much sense out of that line for me. She mentions him being wealthy pretentious yet wanting to appear as a “hipster” lowkey only liking underground indie music kind of guy in the song “I bet you think about me”. Daaaaamn. Poor Jake. She’s so good it’s scary man. I feel like some of her songs should come with a warning label.
She gets hate because people love to hate on successfull artists, ESPECIALLY artists that are popular amongst women and teen girls. It's always been this way. At the end of the day it's all about misoginy and degrading what women enjoy.
A lot of people also just knew her from her initial popularity of country songs and just dismissed her, and then held onto that initial impression and never bothered to actually listen to anything newer. I had kind of the same view- not a negative one of her, but just "I'm not interested" because that was all I'd known from her and hadn't bothered to listen to anything else, because I didn't think I'd like it. Then I started seeing her on my FYP on Tiktok. Saw the moment when she met Benjamin Button for the first time in her music video... and I started paying a little more attention to her and found I love her newer music!
She sings in this song about a relationship that ends, then is attempted to start again (3 months in the grave is when he finally told her he loved her), which always reminds me that We Are Never Ever Grtting Back Together is also believed to be about the same relationship as this song is. So, he stood her up on her 21st birthday, then tried to play that down, then they got back together, which he wanted to keep a secret, then they broke up a few more times and she finally had to say it is over, no more, we are never getting back together, like ever. Makes a bit more sense why she was so excited to turn 22 and really made that into a big deal after her 21st birthday was ruined.
I’ll give you the short version of why she gets hate: she writes catchy songs that speak to a large array of people, and most people don’t have that talent, and they’re jealous. Throw in the fact that she’s attractive and kind, and that just gives people more ammo. People HATE what they can’t be.
Hey Knox, just discovered your reaction videos and was delightfully blown away by your insights into symbolism, metaphor, cryptic references and more of the songs you react to... listening as you think out loud and work through the multiple meanings of the lyrics...was f'n delightful... You got a new subscriber here... damn well done!!! Here's hoping you do many more rich reactions just like this....keep up the good work and thoughtful analysis man... Listening as you react is like hearing the song for first time all over again....
my favourite detail about specifically the 10 minute version is the break down at the end because she uses the first lines of those verses again, so that we also get to "remember it all too well" in such a long song. it's gorgeous.
I think the f the patriarchy line is supposed to show his hypocrisy. He has that keychain basically claiming he's a feminist and all that, but at the same time he's throwing them on the ground instead of simply handing them to her. If you watch the short film, you'll understand it better. Edit: The song is supposedly about Jake Gyllenhaal. He was 29, she was 20. I believe they ended it after he didn't show up to her 21st birthday party even though he promised her he would (hence the 'you call me up again just to break me like a promise', 'weeping in the bathroom' and 'he watched me watch the front door willing you to come'). She explains that whole situation in the song The moment I knew. Very good song, totally recommend giving it a listen.
I'm a best-selling author and editor who has so much respect for her writing. What you described in the beginning is her 'showing' not 'telling' in her writing. Telling is lazy writing, using adjectives to describe things, not setting the scene, etc. Her lyrics are phenomenal. And I listened to your latest song and WOW. Your lyrics are amazing. ❤
She is an Icon. Biggest pop star in the world. Self-made billionaire. Not famous for any sex tapes. Or ridiculous family reality shows. She is a very savvy businesswoman. She has such a kind heart. She donates a lot of money to charities. Never signs her name. She has given huge amounts of bonuses to her dancers, band members, backup vocalists, all stage hands, truck drivers.. Like over $100,000 a piece. She has won 12 Grammys, 39 Billboard Music Awards, and 40 American Music Awards. 16 People Choice Awards. Holds 101 World Records. She writes her own music and all of her songs. And for others. I like a lot of her music. She's a lyrical genius. And her bridges.. Wow. People bitch because she writes about her breakups. Well, she writes about other things as well. It's her life, her emotions. Her feelings. Other musicians write about their feelings as well.. Rappers, Country artist, R&B, other popstars.. Perhaps not as well as she does, well, definitely not as well as she does.. 😊
I've wondered why people hate her so much too and I come up with men feeling like there needs to be some sort of solidarity in embarrassment. People--particularly men but a lot of women haters do this too--go right to her 'dating a lot' as a put down. But like Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Scar-Jo, ... every. single. male star. ever... have demonstrably dated around far more than her. But the only difference I see is she writes about them. And the men from the songs she writes are embarrassed. And then other men feel this need to put her down on those guys' behalf. That's all I've come up with. Also, they call her fake or calculated. Ummmm she's survived 20 years in the music industry. I'd assume she is very good at business and part of that is media management and being able to be 'on' at certain times and project an image. She wouldn't have lasted a year if she didn't. And I guess people say her songs are 'immature' and then reference a song she wrote at 15. Which of course. But when I was 16 dude that song was everything. And now that she and I are the same age, I see so much to connect with on a metaphorical level in her music. It's evolved but people don't want to try to be open minded.
Thanks for your great content. I first came across you on your encanto videos and now again for taylor swift! I've never watched a non swifty reactingvto her music so in tune with the lyrics and it's meaning as you are. Thank you so much for the content! I would also strongly recommend the following songs: "Forever Winter" (which is by far her most underated but most important songs) "Getaway Car" "Right where you left me" "Champagne Problems" "Would've Could've Should've"
Love you reacting to taylor. I appreciate your in depth lyrical analysis of all music and taylor definitely deserves the time and dedication you give evaluating lyrics, bc taylor’s pen is nasty.
I've watched a lot of reactions to this song, but I love re-watching yours because it's so satisfying how many references you caught and how well you were able to interpret the lyrics.
When I tell you that I hunted this DOWN. THis is my forever favorite Taylor song. This song is., in fact, from the album RED. and It's also about her relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal when she was like 20 years old.
I just found your channel and I’m so glad I did 😊 I think you’re the first person I’ve seen reacting to this song who is able to break down the actual meaning behind the lyrics while also appreciating how amazing of a writer she is. Also, you’re spot on with your interpretation of the keychain. In the short film she made for the 10 minute version, it is literally a keychain that says it. He does throw it towards her as he’s answering a phone call with his back to her and it hits the ground. She also sold the keychains on her website as part of the promotion for Red (Taylor’s Version). It’s amazing how well you understand her songwriting and all of its layers. A lot of people take her lyrics as direct and literal when there’s way more depth to them. She really does know how to setup the scene in your mind or paint a picture of everything she describes in the song. I don’t know how she does it, but she does. All you have to do is listen to a few verses of her storytelling lyrics and it’s like it’s playing out right in front of you.
18:05 This is super interesting, thank you for sharing this! I had never heard of this expression before, and it really adds an extra element to this song that I already love so much. So, thank you!
I would love to see you react to songs from musicals, some of them are so well composed melodically and have so much emotion attached to them. Love to see your take on a genre whose purpose is to further the telling of specific stories.
@@beccamccombie1758 i think i will, but i would also love to see him react to something more musical. hamilton is mostly rhythm, less melody and some harmonies and belting in musical theatre take my breath away. would love to see him react to some of that.
I was hoping you'd react to this! It's such a great song. I'm once again impressed with how much you catch on a first listen... I really want to see you react to "My tears ricochet" from Taylor
I love how insightful your commentaries are! I'd love for you to react to the short film she directed of this and her live SNL performance. There's so much heart behind this song. I think that's why this 10-minute song doesn't feel long and it never gets tired! :)
When the first version of the song came out in 2012 I was 18 and had just gone through my first heartbreak and I’d listen to this in the car everyday and the line “id like to be my old self again but I’m still trying to find it” always made me cry. Along with “so casually cruel in the name of being honest”. Gah, that line.😩
WEll yes about the brooklyn broke line... Such a great catch that most miss!🙌 She has another song about Jake on the same album called "I bet you think about me" with the lyric - "I bet you think about me, in your house, with your organic shoes and your million dollar coach" 🤣 Also, the "twinflame bruise also is hinting at the fact that they are both saggittarius aka twin fire signs. Love your reactions!
Out of all the reaction videos of this song, you have the best interpretation of it!! 🤯 Each time she sings, "Cause there we are again..." it means she's still thinking of him and have not gotten over him at all. 😢
As someone who appreciates lyrical genius the way you do, you should definitely check out Folklore and Evermore. The writing on those albums is incredible. And if you do, please not that some songs connect to each other so you might want to listen to/react to them together
Your reaction to All Too Well, is the BEST I heard from anyone. Thank you. You should watch the ALL TOO WELL, her 10 minute film Taylor directed it. Also, her SNL performance. Both are amazing. FYI, Taylor was dating Jake Gyllenhaal when she turned 21.
Red is the title of the Album. She relates the color RED with love. Also, she has said that the scarf is a metaphor. The fans think it’s about a first time experience… and I think so too.
I am really impressed in your interpretation of Taylor's lyrics. I have listened to this song many, many times, but you added some layers I hadn't thought of. Thank you!

"If guys don't want me to write bad songs about them, they shouldn't do bad things." - Taylor Swift
I thought of this exact quote!
For real! Nothing to fear if you're a genuine, good, sweet person! Even if parted ways & some sadness & a heavy heart follows, still no need to worry. Any song she wrote wouldn't be a diss at you & heck, should be honored to have a TS song about you!😄😉
@@LK-lz6lk back to December 😩😩😩
She's a bad ass.
I never really thought about it like that before but that makes so much sense.
Yes! Its irony, bc he says he’s a feminist but is dating someone much younger and continues to do so
The “fuck the patriarchy” is in quotes so I assume it’s written on his keychain.

Anyone in a failed relationship knows what that means and how that feels.
this
This part always made me cry when I reflected on a current failed relationship at the time
I made a bracelet for the eras concert: casually cruel summer.
i hope SOME swifties appreaciate this.
That part always gets me, because it’s so raw. Because we all know exactly what it’s like.😢😢😢
I’m sure he said a lot of things that really stung at her age and not being that established yet.
This 👆🏻
I'm a Sagittarius myself and fire with fire makes an uncontrollable flame, sometimes you can't put those flames out.

People just hate on her because she’s a super successful female who is so openly vulnerable. Most of their reasons for hating her aren’t even valid because they haven’t listened to her music and don’t know anything about her character and how charitable she is.
It’s Because her daddy funded her career with a 300,000 dollar bribe and she writes for entitled white people who are midwits.

Yes! I was going to say he picked up so many metaphors I did not even understand my first time listening

Interesting. I always thought it was Maggie.
I believe Taylor mentioned it was Anne Hathaway in an interview, or AH did.
Love your visceral reaction to her turning 21, realizing how YOUNG she was...

Why does she get so much love and hate?
@@joshuacraig6447it’s so heartening to see people who can say they aren’t Taylor fans, but can still give respect where it is due
@@Dani-vu7em I can say I am a fan of her music now. KH also got me listening to Miley Cyrus a bit more as well. One of the things that drew me to KH was him getting me back into rap--specifically Eminem and highlighting great lyricism in an age where modern music is lacking it.
All of this ❤
Something often goes unnoticed is how at the beginning it's always 'I was there, I remember it' and then it moves into 'you were there, YOU remember it'.
“You kept me like a secret, but I kept you like an oath”
Story of my youth. One of my all time favorite lines from her.
Definitely worth checking out the music video/movie she made to go with this song as well as her SNL live performance of it. You can really tell how personal the song is to her when you see her sing it live.
The SNL performance is literally one on the greatest musical performances of all time
That she took all her friends with her too shows how hard it was.
Love watching your videos, Knox, you always catch everything in the lyrics that other reactors miss!
Knox Hill showing his diversity in music. Never thought I would come to appreciate Taylor Swift but here I am. Thanks KH!
Thank you for doing this video of Taylor. This is such a beautiful song she doesn’t get the credit she should. She is a master lyricist.
Stunning camera work too.
maze runner not hunger games btw
Watching the argument is SO uncomfortable. It feels like you're peeking through a crack in the door and watching something that's supposed to be private. It's SO well done.
@@Palitato And the face that they ad-libbed it is amazing.
Dylan O’Brien isn’t in hunger games. He’s in Teen Wolf and The Maze Runner.

As a non-american, i never caught on to that!
But by knowing who this is about and what she says about him in other songs, it makes sooo much sense and there's definitely a double meaning!

Thanks for explaining "when your Brooklyn broke my skin and bones". I've spent ages trying to figure out if this was literally Brooklyn or a metaphor. It makes so much more sense now!
A “twin flames” is an intense connection between two people. Deeper than soul mates.
Except in true brilliant fashion her and J both are fire sign. Always 2 meanings with this amazing woman. So lucky to be her fan now.
I will always be intensely jealous of Taylor's songwriting talent. Its like she puts thoughts and feelings I myself have had into beautiful phrases full of imagery, metaphors and deeply philisophical introspection. She is genuinely one of the handful of greatest songwriters of all time.
I love the way you break down music, the way you approach it. It's like you hit every single detail.
Haters hate success. I have seen her work on her tour set before the tour and was blown away at how hard she worked. Her drive, skill, and ability is unmatched.
And because they don't know of her or her work, they feel her success is undeserved. 💔

Your the first person I watched who knew what Brooklyn Broke meant. Great reaction as usual.
Brooklyn broke....I totally missed that meaning. Fits ol Jake.
The story about this songs creation was told by Swift
in an interview.
Good grab for her momma too!
She’s a special storyteller, I was one of those guys who hadn’t given her a chance but I can’t deny it she special.
The short film for this song is absolutely beautiful and even more emotional. I think people hate her for no reason, there was a point in her life that she couldn’t stand it and was off the grid for about two or three years.
Then there's Rep era where she makes the song about the haters. A one of a kind album

This song is peak lyricism of Taylor's 🤌🏻
Taylor Swift's lyrics are truly an art form and a very in-depth story that she is telling. I love listening to you break them down. For you as an artist with you not even making this type of music and being able able to think deeply about each and every word and sentence that she's singing and break it down the way that you do is truly an art form for you and I truly appreciate it
There are actually paparazzi pictures of Jake Gyllenhaal wearing Taylor Swifts scarf after they broke up.
jake was 29 and taylor was 20 when they started dating; 16:57 even though he tried to convince taylor that the age gap contributed to the fall out, she points out that he has consistently (to this day) always dated people significantly younger than him (he has a 16yr age gap with his current gf).
the twin flame line - this may be a call back to her song "state of grace" on the same album (red), where she talks about having the "twin fire signs" - both taylor and jake are sags (fire signs)

This album is outstanding. If this song doesn’t convert Taylor haters I’m surprised.
Converted me, I wasn't a hater however. I just didn't know she was so great! Props T Swift!

She can also add person of the year of 2023 of time magazine
Now it's 14 grammys, haha, and she's the first person who wins album of the year 4 times!!
It's evolved but people don't want to try to be open minded.
i love your reactions and how you don't know much about taylor but you always seem to catch a lot of the deeper meanings, you're doing great!!
Knox Hill I love your reactions because you know what you're doing. Iove how you get and disect each lyrics. Love learning from you .
I absolutely love your analysis of her lyrics ❤
Thanks for your great content. I first came across you on your encanto videos and now again for taylor swift! I've never watched a non swifty reactingvto her music so in tune with the lyrics and it's meaning as you are. Thank you so much for the content!
I would also strongly recommend the following songs:
"Forever Winter" (which is by far her most underated but most important songs)
"Getaway Car"
"Right where you left me"
"Champagne Problems"
"Would've Could've Should've"
Love you reacting to taylor. I appreciate your in depth lyrical analysis of all music and taylor definitely deserves the time and dedication you give evaluating lyrics, bc taylor’s pen is nasty.
I've watched a lot of reactions to this song, but I love re-watching yours because it's so satisfying how many references you caught and how well you were able to interpret the lyrics.
Great to see your channel is steadily growing. Enjoying the different genres you're showcasing. Cheers❤
This is probably my favourite song of all time ever. thanks for covering.
I have never thought about the Brooklyn broke line but makes total sense, that’s why I love your reactions ❤
I love Jake G, but this is a masterpiece
I love your interpretations of Taylor's lyrics. So deep!
I can’t wait for to check out Champagne Problems from her Evermore album. It’s such an amazing song 💜
You should check out his reactions to Hamilton - so good!
@@beccamccombie1758 i think i will, but i would also love to see him react to something more musical. hamilton is mostly rhythm, less melody and some harmonies and belting in musical theatre take my breath away. would love to see him react to some of that.
You get it. Love the analysis.
I was hoping you'd react to this! It's such a great song. I'm once again impressed with how much you catch on a first listen...
I really want to see you react to "My tears ricochet" from Taylor
I love your brain! you pick up on so many little details that most people I've seen react to Taylor don't pick up on!
People hate on her cause they think it's cool. Just sad. I love her for 15yrs now and i'm not going anywhere.
I love how insightful your commentaries are! I'd love for you to react to the short film she directed of this and her live SNL performance. There's so much heart behind this song. I think that's why this 10-minute song doesn't feel long and it never gets tired! :)
The outro really gave me chills as always it feels like she's calm, she accept it she moved on. 😭♥️
Knox, I appreciate how thoughtful your reactions always are and enjoy learning more about music through you!
You are the GOAT. Please do Champagne Problems 🙏🏼
I Really Enjoy The Way You Break The Song, Lyrics, And Express The Way You Did, THANKS!!!
Finally, been waiting for your reaction to this! 😊
Such a great catch that most miss!🙌 She has another song about Jake on the same album called "I bet you think about me" with the lyric - "I bet you think about me, in your house, with your organic shoes and your million dollar coach" 🤣
Also, the "twinflame bruise also is hinting at the fact that they are both saggittarius aka twin fire signs. Love your reactions!
you're gonna love the short film to this song. so many metaphors and beautiful shots
I've always loved Taylor's music but your reactions just give me more reason to as your lyric brain is too good 👏
Out of all the reaction videos of this song, you have the best interpretation of it!! 🤯 Each time she sings, "Cause there we are again..." it means she's still thinking of him and have not gotten over him at all. 😢
Jake Gyllenhaal. She is a genius all the way around. Not to mention she’s just a good human being. 💕 Love when you do her music…. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
you are one of the best Ive watched doing a reaction to Tay's songs.!
No, it isn't. She makes it pretty obvious in Woulda Coulda Shoulda from Midnights (3am) that she lost her virginity to perv John Mayer.
I am really impressed in your interpretation of Taylor's lyrics. I have listened to this song many, many times, but you added some layers I hadn't thought of. Thank you!
Taylor Swift is such an amazing artist. Her songwriting is phenomenal!
