I saw these and read some comments. Apparently if you hold the zipper tape at an angle (when putting in), as opposed to straight up, it goes in easier.
Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the tip Catty😁
Thanks for demonstrating how to use a simple tea towel holder to put zippers together. What an ingenious idea!
You're very welcome 😀
I got a couple of these several years ago when this 'hack' was popular. It's made doing yards of zippers so much easier. Since it's so light weight I adhered mine on a mini ceramic tile but I LOVE the idea of putting it upright...now I'm going to have to give that a try.
If you get zippers by the yard here's a trick for you to make life easier - put on all the zipper heads at the same time. Then all you have to do is move them down the zipper tape when you have to cut off what you need. Of course this works best if you only need one zipper head per zipper. But, if you need two zipper heads on a zipper, it's not difficult to cut off the length you need, remove one head and stick it back on in the correct direction to make a double headed zipper.
Thanks for the tip Mea😁
I mounted one of those on a clipboard and I like it. You can use the clip on the clipboard to hold the loose long ends of the zip.
I'll give that a go. Thank you 😀
Now, if only I had that magnet! Thank you for the video!!
Haha, you'll get two out of the next microwave you scrap Robin 🤣😁
you make it look so easy Christine. IF ONLY I could get it to work. I can get one side OR the other in...but not both. Or when I do, I can't move the pull along to *zip* 😭
Thanks for your videos though. That is most kind of you.
Thank you! This video was very helpful.
I’ve used a plastic version (4 of them) in my kitchen for 20 years. Self adhered to the countertop on the side, out of line of site. Not for a zipper pul!! 😊
It's amazing what other uses we come up with for basic kitchen gadgets Aleta. 😁
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs Love watching your videos’.
Thanks Aleta 😀
I have been looking for those tea towel thingies for quite a while. Never have found one. But I saw someone using the tines of a fork. They do it so fast that it's hard to actually follow them. So I sat at my computer the other night, watching YOUR videos and just kept practicing. It turned out that when I held the zips about half an inch from the ends that I was able to work it a lot better. And to also put the zip ends in at an angle like you're making a V-neck piece. (I'm still looking for one of those gadgets... LOL)
I got a couple from our local hardware Alice, only to find out they're about to discontinue them here 🤪
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs Oh no!!! As soon as this winter storm blows over, I'm going to run out to my neighborhood hardware store to FIND them!! Thank you. Of course, I never thought to look in a hardware store! DUH!
Wow. I was making your dog poo bags tonight for the first time. I had a horrible time getting t zipper sliders on, even with your normal method. Then I see this video. Ma, now I need to go find one of these. Hopefully Amazon in the US has them. Thanks again for another wonderful tip!
On edit: I found them. Should see them in a few days. Thanks again!
Hope they worked out for you Frank. I try this method now and then, and still find it easier to do them flat on the table. I have days where they give me loads of grief😀
I’ve been using the tea towel holders for a long time. They work fabulous for the zippers. Good idea to use a magnet. I glued mine on a small piece of wood with rubber tabs on the bottom to keep it from sliding on my table. I love I can get a five pack on Amazon really cheap.
That's a great idea Dana 😁
You may have me sold on zippers by the yard. I absolutely couldn't figure out how to get zippers together, especially the accidental oops when you forget you've cut the stopper off. I tried a fork, by hand. I've seen by the yard, but I use different colored zippers, and though I sell many things with zips, doesn't seem enough to garner by the yard. But, that gadget was amazing.❤😊
I like to keep things as simple as I can when i sew, so I will only use one colour zip in all my products. It kind of works though, as most of my handles are also black😁
Well, I ordered these on Amazon. Can't wait to give them a try. Thank you for sharing this genius hack. I watched another video with a bent fork. Some people have such good ideas.
They sure do Rebecca. 😄
I like your tea towel holder idea. Thanks 😊
You’re welcome. Thank you 😊
Thanks for such a surprising demonstration of a humble kitchen gadget. I had no inkling that there were ideas a towel holder could assist with applying zipper sliders to their tape. !!
I didn't believe it myself until I tried it Jess 😀
Pure genius :) I bought one straight after watching your video as it takes me far too long to get my zipper pulls on right. Thanks for the tip and the demo ! I just discovered your channel a few days ago. I have a small sewing business and it's in a bit of a lull at the moment - I am finding your straight forward, sensible way of going about your sewing business very inspiring and doubt lifting. Thanks !
Thank you Jennifer. I hope your business picks up soon. I know it's not easy 😀
I have just recently bought some zips on a roll, but haven't used them yet. I was wondering how I would putting them together, but this I think will help a lot. Thank you so much. I wouldn't even tried the zips on a roll if I hadn't seen you using them a lot. I'm looking forward to it. Another great tutorial.
Thanks Karen. Good luck 😀
What a brilliant idea, will be doing this on my bedding , Thank You x
Thanks Avril. I'll have to all do mine too😀
I’m gonna look for the tee towel holder.
They're getting harder to find now 😊
I’m thrilled that you tried this! I’m going to try it too. It takes me 5 minutes or more to struggle getting the zips on. Wow.
It was certainly an eye opener for me Sharon 😄
Just got mine today, it is awesome. I really struggled with zipper pulls.
Hope it makes a difference for you Angela😀
It changed my zipper life 😅
haha. They sure are useful😁
A tea towel holder? Hmm. For zippers? You come up with some of the neatest, most oddball, tricks and ideas that I've ever seen. I love your voice and the two combined are why I love to watch you. Plus the learning, of course. Thanks Christine.
Thanks patricia. Can't take credit for the idea though. It seems to be very popular😁
Phenomenally awesome find. Thanks for sharing. Have an amazing day
Thank you 😀
Wow Christine. There are so many clever people in the world and you are one of them. After 50 years of sewing, you've shown me so many tricks and tips, I love this one so you know where I'm off to tomorrow. Excellent!
Thanks Janet. Not my idea though, I had seen it mentioned on sicial media, and thought I'd better try it. So glad I did. 😀
Hello Christine. I found them on Amazon for $28 each, one place on eBay they are 2 for $12, and none at Bunnings. I ordered from eBay. Thanks for the demo
Unfortunately Bunnings decided to discontinue selling them Sue. Such a shame, as they were only about $3-$4 at the time😁
Bought one today, mounted it on storage unit in my craft room as there are no metal parts on my mchine .Works a treat!
That's fabulous Paula 😀
I pulled the towel holder to be more apart from the back so it stands upright and there's room for me to put the zipper pull in from behind the gap. Just found it easier this way. :) I've only done this with #3 zipper pulls but now find them a relative doddle :)
That's a great idea Julien. Thank you😁
Thanks Christine. I have to say, I haven't used it for a while as I now tend to just trim the zipper and tape from one side, put the longer bit in the pull, then the shorter bit. Seems to work well but always have the towel holder at hand, just in case LOL (Not sure why it's come up with Julien7956 as I'm actually 'Julie'. I'll take a look into that. Still , no worries. LOL
Love your videos, Christine. They're enjoyable and informative. You don't waffle on like some do :) Thanks for taking the time etc. @@ChristinesHomeAffairs
I have to get that!!! Tx Christine!
Yes! I know I have to get another for work too Miriam 😀
off to get one Thanks Christine
It's awesome Maxine 😄
If you put the zip in on angle, it slides right in, soooo easy now
Great tip. Thank you 😄
Excellent video. Thank you!
Thanks Helen 😄
Hi
Like you I was skeptical, but wow they are fabulous aren't they 😍
They do make life easier Margaret😀
Christine - what a great idea. I smiled when you sounded so surprised, haha. Is your sewing machine digital? I have a digital and warned not to put any magnets on it - I guess they mean the 'working' part. Thanks for this demo 😁
Yes Lesley, I was very surprised. I'd heard of it before, but thought it was just another gimic to add to my collection. I'll be using it often now. Yes my machine is digital. I had always heard the same thing, but phoned my machine mechanic/supplier and he assured me it would be ok, however I don't put the magnet over the digital screen, just below where the parts are mechanical 😀 ps, thanks for the coffee😄
Thank you so much! I had one of these for over a year. I tried it laying down and have up, but upright it works great! I got mine in a 4 pack on Amazon.
Haha, bet you'll put it to good use now Maureen😁
Great tip, thank you.
My pleasure Stefanie. Thank you😁
Thank you for this. I'm amazed there isn't already a tool specifically for this for sewers. Amazon is out, but I found some on ebay. Yay!
After doing the video for this, I actually found a product that is specifically for zippers made with plastic, but this is a much cheaper option 😀
Wow mostly use no 3 zips but do struggle Hi from Canberra ❤
Hi Angela😁
Great idea!
Thanks marla 😀
I’m very impressed with this Tea Towel holder. I ordered one from Amazon right after I watched your video last night.
Haha, I tried to purchase another today, but the hardware store had none left! 😀
I bought a 4 pack of these tea towel holders from Amazon and they arrived quickly. Absolutely love it. Thank you for the info. I already had the Zipper Jig & found it to be very dangerous with the sharp edges. I am going to put it in the retirement drawer.
I didn't know there was a zipper jig until I purchased the towel holder. Now I'm glad I didn't know 😀
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs Yes the zipper jig & the zipper genie are $39.00-$65.00 depending upon where you buy them. I paid for 4 of these tea towel holders for only $7.15 for the set on Amazon USA. Again thank you for the heads up.
Love your you tube channel.
I love using everyday items to help when sewing or crafting. Thank you.
Me too Eileen 😀
I'm was so surprised too how well it worked! I bought this a while back & didn't like it cuz it was in an awkward position. I'm going to try it on my sewing machine too. Thank u so much for the demonstration 👍👍
Hope it works better now Sonia 😄
Great info for me since I have issues with my hands. Thanks for the wonderful demonstration!
I think itll5help with my hands too 😄
Thank you
Always a pleasure Cynthia 😀
awesome trick
Thanks Rick 😀
Thank you for demonstrating these. I just bought some of these to try for zippers.
You are so welcome Brenda 😀
lol I was yelling to tell you, you had it on backwards.
Haha. I left that in just for you Sharon. I knew someone would be there to steer me in the right direction 🤭😄
I bought one to try it and you are right, it works perfectly so. Thanks for sharing.
Glad it helped Rachel. 😀
Hi Christine thank you so much for this video. I have been looking for a gadget like this. I am in the UK and the only thing I found was from USA and the postage was a ridiculous amount. I have arthritis and have trouble putting the pulls on zip on a role. The towel holder is the answer and I ordered one immediately. I really look forward to seeing your tutorials they are so clear and informative. X
I'm so glad you managed to get one Linda 😀
I have been using this method for several months! I love it!
It sure is handy Susan 😄
Wow that was great! Thanks for showing us! Your great ! Have a wonderful day! 🤗🤗
You're very welcome 😀
I've held onto the zipper tape edges while putting them on the pull instead of pushing them against the tool. 👍 I like them personally but I don't take the zipper completely apart when adding the pulls.
Great tip Kera. Thank you 😀
I would like to see you put them on a garment.
I rarely get the opportunity Judy as most of the jacket zippers need to be replaced. If I get one, I'll do a video😁
Wow im going to get one!!!! Thank you it was fun experiencing this with you!!!
Thanks Judy. I did get a bit excited 😁
You have to put them in at an angle so the two pieces looks like V at the same time
Thanks so much😀
Love it..Thanks girl..Smiles from NY
Thanks Dolores 😀
Thanks for great demo. I’ve been wondering about this gadget too. Glad you reviewed it. I think I’ll get one! ❤😊
Haha, they even work as towel holders Cyn 😁
What a clever idea
It sure is Eve. If only I had tried this sooner 😀
Love it! Thank you, just ordered myself a couple of these😊😊
Good job Solveig. Hope you enjoy it!😀
Clever! but I'm a bit concerned about magnets on a sewing machine 👀
I'm going to do some serious research about this topic. I have however been instructed by a machine expert that it is ok, but don't think I'd put it on a domestic computerised machine just yet. At least not a strong magnet. 😀
I use a fork but I place the head with the slider up.
I've never succeeded with the fork Deb. Even with this tool being so handy, I think I prefer the flat table surface 😁
I just love all your ideas and videos. I could watch you all day! I am just a bit disappointed though, all the links that you have left for us to get items throuvh Amazon are not any longer good. They each say unavailable. 😢 Maybe, in your spare time, lol I say that and laugh since I would imagine you do not really have much spare time, anyway if you could update the links with current ones that would be fantastic! I also found that the best prices could be from alibaba but they want soo many items as a minimum that as a hopefully new business it is just too many for me. Oh well, thanks again and looking forward to your next one.
Sorry that the links are no longer valid. I only updated them a few weeks ago. Even though the stock may not be available, you should still be able to find similar items by using the same descriptions in the search box. I agree Alibaba have great prices, but you usually have to purchase large quantities 😀
Christine I watched this video and I was just trying to add a zipper pull on a zipper with my towel gadget. I was getting very frustrated as it wouldn’t work. So I decided to try the opposite end of the zipper, and it worked the very first time!! Is it possible that there is a right and wrong end to a zipper?
Great tip Joann. I've just discovered there is a right and wrong way. Yet it's easy both ways, manually😁
Amazing. I wish I could know the number of zippers so I would know what tab you need.
Lucille, do you mean the tabs (sliders) that go on the teeth? I think you get used to it after a while when you use the same size often enough. A regular style zipper that goes on dresses (not invisible zips) is usually a number 3. The higher the number the thicker the teeth. A number 10 or even 8 would be good for a puffer style jacket. No. 5 are popular for bags, and hoodie type clothing😀
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs yes I meant the zipper pull to use when you buy zippers by the yard. To be able to make more zippers how can you tell what zipper pull to buy when you want to use another zipper.
Lucille, when you by them by the yard, the one you purchase will usually tell you if it is No.3, 5, 8 etc. Then you order the slider to go with it. So for example if you purchase 100 yards of No.5 coil or tape, you would purchase No.5 pulls/sliders to suit. Sometimes you can purchase it with the sliders already on the coil, but then you may need more depending on the amount of products you're making. Hope that's helped😀
I have a different question .. and the one I was looking for an answer when I tumbled on to your video. How do you prevent the zipper from curling/twisting when adding a pull?
The twisting has only ever happened to me when I've put the same side tape (ie. one side) on both sides of the slider. Would you have done that perhaps?
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs Yes, that's what happened. I recall one time seeing a video that addressed this issue and have not been able to find it since. Was wondering if you knew the fix?
I've tried to find a video too, but no luck. I don't have a solution for it either except perhaps trying to iron it straight😊
I have a jacket that the pull tab is impossible to start the zipper to pull.
So COOL!!! Where did you get that doohickey from??🎉
Haha, I found it at the hardware store, but have seen them on Amazon as well😊
Have you seen the common fork method used?
Yes, but I haven't had any success with that method yet. Perhaps I should try that again 😀
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs Live watching your videos! You are a treasure chest of helpfulness! Here is a modified fork in this link ruclips.net/video/-xjQTgRBgQc/видео.html
Does anyone know where I can find this in the United States?
I'm pretty sure I've seen them on Amazon Barbra. If so, I would have put a link in the description🙂
🙂🙂🙂❤❤❤
Amazon has them for $4.99
Fabulous Teresia 😁
I don't have mine attached to anything. When I use it, I lay it flat and butt it against my sewing machine and push away from me.
That's a great tip 😀
I’ve tried to use it and I didn’t like it 😢. I saw sewsweetness lady using it and I tried it. It’s not for me. When I have a backpack gusset it’s very difficult to aline the two pieces. Not for me😅
Paula, I have to admit, I'd rather do them on a flat surface 😀
💙👏👏👏👏
You need to hold the zip tape in a v shape
Thanks Kayleen. I also found out today, that there is a right and wrong way to direct the teeth😁
What is zipper teeth face down?
Patricia, that just means that the zipper is faced down instead of up😁
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs Thank you.
got one but it doesnt work for me
Which part isn't working Eileen? What size zipper?
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs no the towel holder for getting the zip together I couldn’t get on with it
@@eileenalderman9606 it took me a few attempts. Hopefully you'll get there🙂
The trick is to start the zipper tapes at a 45 degree angle into the zipper pull. Don't put them in straight down or it won't work as well. Make the two zipper tapes for a "V" into the zipper pull.
I struggle with a lot of problems lerning to sew and with you I see we all have the same problems. The difference is you share with us and it is priceless 😇🙏😇❤
It would have been helpful if you had not used a black zipper in a room with poor lighting. It’s very difficult to see.
Thanks Freida😀
It didn’t work for me. The zipper pull just kept falling out. I wasted my money .
Yes! I’ve done it 😂
That's wonderful Megan. Well done!😁
Magnets can blow the computer inside your sewing machine. Please be careful where you store and use magnets. I have never seen a tea towel gadget like that one; and, I would not want to stick that on my wall either. However, I would attach it to something (without some kind of computer inside it) to assemble zippers.
Thanks for the tip Arvetta. Before placing magnets on my computerised machines, I did ask an expert with machines if they would cause any problems. He did tell me that it would be ok, but I also don't place the magnet on the screen, just on the metal frame. Haven't had any issues yet, but I am now following this up with some real research. I'm going to get to the bottom of this mystery and hope to have some clear answers sometime soon. Will keep you posted 😀
Terrible
I've been using this for a couple of years and it's saved me so much frustration and many swear words hahaha. It's so much easier to use once you secure it to a solid surface and it doesn't move. :) It's easier if you put the zips in at an angle and not straight down.
Thanks for the tips Tammy. I'm going to love using mine 😀
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs I couldn't do it any other way now lol
