I run a non-profit sewing studio near Washington DC. This year I was able to bestow over $2000.00 in scholarships to textile arts students as well as gift 4 refurbished Bernina sewing machines. Because of your channel, my focus recently has been on up cycling fabric. My community has been so generous in donating sheets, duvet covers and an interior design store donated rolls of upholstery fabric. I give my students a list of my favorite RUclips sewing stars and you are at the top of my list. Thank you for sharing your talent as well as wisdom.
Wow. What’s the name of your charity? I live nearby and would love to know more.
@@nancygossett I live in South Riding near Chantilly, VA. I go by SewJo Studio. Just by word of mouth. Still waiting for my 501C3 status.
Very cool. I live in Potomac and our church is active in outreach and social justice. The young people aren’t learning practical skills, including doing more with less. Good for you.
That's awesome! One of my favorite people to watch is Catherine Sews. I like most of the sewing peoples!
This is a timely video, I just finished my 1st pair of self drafted shorts and pants. For 50 years I have sewn from patterns and never got as nice a fit as I have from your directions. Love the plaid !
Alicia you’re so smart!!
Buying fabric is so nice, it’s like buying candy, but upcycling it’s so satisfying. Specially when a plan comes together. Love the shorts 🎉🎉.
better than any Ralph Lauren or other high end i have ever seen. brava!
These shorts are super cute! Thanks for another great video!
So very awesome! Think of the limitless sewing from the thrift store.
Apart from the absolutely lovely end result what I really loved about this video was the close ups of the super neat stitching and pressing. I love the shorts and will have a go myself but I'd be happy just watching that perfect creativity. Thank you😍😍😍
I am in awe of your pattern matching, I always set out with the best of intentions and then I remember I don't have the patience :D
I love the idea of upcycling. I have a maxi skirt that was always supposed to be shorts. My new project. Plus I can add pockets.
Exactly, and with a maxi skirt you probably have a good amount of fabric to play around and make the shorts that you want! :)
Very impressive result. So cute.
Thank you! 😊
I would have NEVER known u joined 2 pieces of fabric to cut out your last pants piece ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Wow it looks better than store bought. Great flip❤
Love these, they fit you sew well. Your skills are honestly on another level ❤. I need the pair of cullotes from the beginning of the video in my life. Thank you Alisa.
Fabulous shorts! I love the thought you put into every aspect of your projects.
Wow, Alisa, those are absolutely gorgeous. What great work you did on those, and I just love the pocket details! (Front and back!)
So cute! Waste not, want not.
"For a professional look, press as you sew". You proved that old statement to be true; because, your shorts looks better that most new garment being sold today in Department stores. Have you ever noticed that they don't match the plaids on most women's and children's clothes? Your new shorts look beautiful on you.
So creative and professionally constructed! Looks fantastic!
Oh my gosh, those are so stinking cute!!!
Fabulous work again 👍👍
Absolutely fantastic shorts. Well done :)
Those are adorable! You are so crafty!!
Omg! that's so cool,i love this upcycle 😍
Those are very cute shorts. I never would have thought of adding a lining in order to use a shirt. I love the bias pockets. I do not love the bias waistband. I think the mix of bias makes it too overwhelming for me. It is a great tutorial to show what can be accomplished with up cycling. I also think the slightly gathered back waistband is a solid method to deal with shaping without worrying about matching patterns.
Very well done! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and skill.
GREAT!!!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
very nice job.
You are so good 👍👍👍❤❤
Beautiiful work...as always!
Thank you so much 😀
I love them!
Great plaid match….🎉
Top gedaan!!🤩 Geeft weer goede inspiratie!!! 👍👍👍🇳🇱
Very cool!!
You are amazing!!!
Name twins! I am not Russian but was told my name was Russian. My mom heard of a Christian artist or something with the name and that’s how I got it.
Yesssss :) I was named after Alice in Wonderland, in Russian it read "Alisa in Wonderland" :)
What did you get that beautiful form??
Could this pattern be used for bermudas?
Yep, just make it longer, or alternatively - you can shorten a pattern for pants :)
Does your husband know you raided his closet?
Lol, he raided his closet for me :) he gave me quite a few of his old shirts, I showed them all in one of my organization/decluttering episodes. Slowly working thorughnthe upcycles :)
I assume your husband had abandoned the shirt?
