I'm a new sewist and you are definitely my favourite sewing channel on youtube!! These no pattern tutorials are absolutely awesome. I can't wait to try it out.
Awww, that's great!!! I am happy it helps, and this one I made with a new sewist in mind - this really is very simple, a good first garment project to do! Or just to try your hand at making a skirt!
I just made my daughter a skirt using this video! Super easy. I made a couple boo boos but learning experience and I’m excited to make another. Thank you so much for posting this!
Thank you so much for the tip about big booties! I decided to start making clothes bc no one makes clothes that fit my shape but I still run into so many issues. Really appreciate it! 👌
I was so impressed. I love circle skirts but didn't find any tutorials about how to draft this kind of skirt if my butt is bigger. Unfortunately that's something I can't change and it's difficult to find a skirt which fit on me. This tutorial showed me how I can draft a skirt for my hourglass body type and the best part is you mentioned how I can draft to create equal lengths. That's what I was looking for so thank you very very much. Now I will be more confident to make a nice skirt 😊
The very best tutorial I've ever seen on how to do this easily and properly. I am so grateful. Now I can finally use that fabric I've been holding on to for so long.
I just ordered fabric to make some skirts and will be referring to this video. So much easier then the last circle skirt video I watched (and made) And of of course I will be adding pockets!! I've added pockets to all my PJ pants since I got my machine in July.
Thank you for this video! Following your tutorial I was able to sew my daughter a poodle skirt for her Halloween costume. It was so easy and looked so cute.
This looks super easy to do! I'm a beginner, so the patterns involving pi and extra measurements always looked intimidating. Thank you for being very clear and easy to follow.
A massive thank you for sharing this tutorial. I've watched so many trying to understand how this process is done. This video is the only one that tells me in a way I can work out. Now ready to do it with a little confidence. You are a great teacher. I have a idea of a skirt I really want to make in my head but the only thing that stopped me was trying to draw the pattern out. THANK YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH......
I have been wanting to make a circle skirt for the longest. I a newby to sewing and I couldn't find a tutorial that was simplified for me to follow. However, after watching this tutorial I am ready to tackle the challenge. Thanks a million for sharing.
I make a kind of style of this type of skirt (after a fashion) I love cotton fabric so I buy the cotton that quilters use, I buy x2 length, cut them in an A shape, sew up the sides, fill the waist with elastic, voila, lovely cotton skirt, which will last me up to 10 years, yes I wear them to death till they literally fall apart and are so faded. I love the designs of these cotton fabrics too. Myra of New Zealand
Thank you for including hip measurements. Most of the other tutorials I've seen don't mention it at all. Now I wish I'd known about your video befoe I cut my fabric. I have to add panels to make it wide enough to fit my hips.
I'm not a skirt person, but it looks like a fun challenge. Love the cat and the color of the material you used for the skirt. I'm a quilter, so this will get tucked away in my saved videos that I keep. Someday I hope to find some yellow and black like you have and will give it a try. Thank you. Love watching what you make. And your cat.
He he, yes, the cat - Eva - she is my sewing buddy! She likes to sit in my lap as I sew, so sometimes she just gets in the shot :) I think I got this fabric at a red tag section in Jo-Ann's, if you're in US you might check it out and see if they have it :) I admire people who quilt, but myself I can only do SUPER simple quilt things!
@@ThoughtfulCreativity Yup, in the US. We might be neighbors. I think I saw you are in Smokies. I'm in Kentucky and have a Jo-Ann's about 10 miles out. I will have to take a look. I always forget Eva's name. She is a sweetheart.
@@ThoughtfulCreativity Such a fun place. We were staying out side Gatlinburg up on top of a very tall hill in a rented condo a few years back and I fell in love with the fog that was rolling in and out. Always changing. I loved that the most of our vacation. Thanks again.
Hi. Thanks so much for this tutorial. I have some Muslin fabric and am going to test it out with this pattern. BTW, you do not go to fast. Your tutorials are clear and easy to follow. Thanks again.
I'd love to see a video on how you deal with serger threads - I'm new to serging and my threads all unravelled on a pair of leggings I made! And my niece will love her new circle skirt, thanks for this tutorial! :)
Hello there, haven't seen you here in a while :) here's the video about serger tips and how I deal with serger ends - ruclips.net/video/0RJK0ZOw-ig/видео.html
I NEED to try this one it looks much easier than the calculation method I tried b4, and I also like how you said that the top piece will be the waist so I measure how long from there you would want it to be, thanks because another video I watched didn't show this and after drawing the pattern out it was tooooo short for my daughter, but this one looks easier
Ok so I measured my daughter's hip got 31 inches, divided it, got approx 7 3/4, then added inch, 8 3/4 inches. when I measured the length to make the curve I got 12 inches, is that correct?
@@Deoshan1 If you did everything according to the video then it is. If you are unsure - make a sample first and then cut your actual fabric. I am sorry, I cannot assist everyone personally due to the volume of requests.

Circular skirt, I would put right sides together, sew a seam then iron the seam, turn the skirt inside out or wrong sides together, sew another seam, you don't have to zigzag the seams or cover them with bias binding (as some would do), or use a surger them (we call a surger an "overlocker". Hi, thanks so much for the great video! My daughter and I are doing this together. Question: we are up to the part of attaching the waist band to the skirt. But the waist band is about 3 inches too small when I arc it around to match the opening up the skirt. Should I re cut a new bigger waist band? It should roughly be the same size as the skirt waist? I wish I could send you a picture!! Thanks!!
I do like that you are choosing the hem length to your preference, the shrinkage is a great tip and the skirts are lovely. Please don't take offense, I try to help. However, there is a lot of pressure put on skirt side seams and particularly waist bands with elastic in them, so you will find the half inch or 1.5 cm, is necessary. Your skirts will not take the rough and tumble of wearing and washing, with tiny seam allowances, that is why unlike patchwork and quilting, which have no pressure put onto many of the seams, clothing patterns always have the wider seam allowances.
Kathleen, thank you for your input! Never worry about providing some ideas/input ;) Seam allowance and the width of them - is a debatable question. In my personal preference I always go for a smaller seam allowance, depending on a project of course, sometimes wider. I still wear clothes I made 10-11 years ago with smaller seam allowances and they held up great. But I do see your point! I always take even smaller seam allowance on the necklines and armholes and it comes out cleaner and less bulk, and holds together well. At the end of the day, I don't claim to do everything by the book, just what works for me :) Thank you Kathleen!
I LIKE. one question, did you use your exact hip measurement or did you add a few more inches in the fabric? I'm sorry, I speak Spanish, that's why I couldn't understand her so well.
Linda, the thank you for becoming a Member! Very easy- just make it longer. Also there is an extra video for Members Only + instruction sheets for this project that will explain how you can also make a 1/4 circle skirt and other degrees of flare. Happy sewing!
No worries, it does depend on your measurements. Use a paper that is as long as the length of your skirt (in both directions) and add at least 1/4 of that to it, because you won't start at the top of the paper but lower, as shown in the video :)
I know it’s an older video but I’d love if you could answer a question. I just started sewing! This is really helpful. If I wanted to have a double elastic waistband would I then just do double the size of the fabric of what the space of one band is? I hope that question makes sense! 😅😬
If you need to double the elastic then you will also need to make your skirt waist measurement bigger. If you double the elastic, but leave the waist measurement as is - then no matter what you do the waist won't get bigger.
Absolutely, Nancy! The only thing - if you have worked with georgette before - go for it, if not - go for more stable fabric, hemming georgette in the round might be a task if you have never done it. Hope this helps!
So, I'd love to wear more skirts, but I'm never sure of what top to wear? especially if you have a post baby tummy =) any suggestions? another skirt pattern?
I have a post baby tummy too, you can take a look at the tops I have made in my videos - some of them would go great with skirts. Also, check out Pinterest for inspiration.
Breathable would be anything that is not polyester, and most likely - linen. But linen creases very easily and you probably don't want that under a chiffon skirt. I would just for light cotton (also creases) or not-see through silk. Check this article - sewguide.com/best-lining-fabrics-for-clothes/

Yes, it should be exactly the size of the waist opening + seam allowance :)
Will be trying this.
Ugghh!!! Just one fast question and I feel like I should know this....but how large piece of paper did you use to make pattern? Thank you so much
No worries, it does depend on your measurements. Use a paper that is as long as the length of your skirt (in both directions) and add at least 1/4 of that to it, because you won't start at the top of the paper but lower, as shown in the video :)
@@ThoughtfulCreativity yep.....makes sense...thanks again

watch the video again and listen and watch carefully to that part where I talk about extending one side of the circle, everything is addressed.
Cute skirt!
Love the fabric.
Thank you.
Do you think I can use Linen Alisa?
Absolutely, linen works great, the ONLY thing - linen wrinkles so easy... so maybe a linen/cotton blend is better.
Hi,what kind of fabric,choices pls thank u😊
I always stitch down the elastic at both seams.
Thank you for this video, definitely will give it a go! Do you think it could be made in Georgette fabric? 😁
Absolutely, Nancy! The only thing - if you have worked with georgette before - go for it, if not - go for more stable fabric, hemming georgette in the round might be a task if you have never done it. Hope this helps!
That material says it all.
Thank you, dear Diana! It is bright, isn't it? :)
Can you suggest a breathable lining fabric for a chiffon skirt?
Breathable would be anything that is not polyester, and most likely - linen. But linen creases very easily and you probably don't want that under a chiffon skirt. I would just for light cotton (also creases) or not-see through silk. Check this article - sewguide.com/best-lining-fabrics-for-clothes/
