If there is 4K VRR - 60, I think I would not be disappointed with that. I don't expect many 4K, 120 hz options unless lower settings existed anyway. Both Series X and PS5 are powerful & new consoles, but they have limitations. Nevertheless, for the price point, both consoles are a super steal and it looks very nice on your TCL set.
I just got this tv yesterday and am using it with my series x and am very happy with it. 4k/60 with vrr and hdr or 1440/120 with vrr but you lose hdr. Both are great ways to play
I know I'm late to the party so maybe there has been an update but I have VRR at 1440p 120fps, I prefer this over 4k 60fps for the latency benefits. You are most definitely right, 4k 60fps with HDR looks much better but 120fps makes a huge difference in gameplay.
This is on a One X, I believe the Series X will allow HDR at 1440p 120Hz and as for the VRR not being applied that's down to the frame rate refresh range of the TV.
Nitro Glycerin i am 100% sure of 2 things. 1. 1440p 120hz will 100% be available on the series x. Its available on the series s, and is currently available on the xbox one x. Its going to be a toggle option in the settings for sure 2. The hdmi cable that comes with the series x, will be a 2.1 cable. So if you upgrade your tv in the future (where i am sure tvs will adopt these feature for prices wayyyyy less than what are currently available for hdmi 2.1), you’ll be good to go. Alot of people are worrying about ability and capability but i think everyone will be able to play and upgrade along the way when it comes to series x
@Matthew Bishop If this is on a One X, then why does the title end with "... for Xbox Series X and PS5" ? This really fooled me. I was under the impression that the games in the video were running on Series X or PS5, until I read your comment. Thanks for pointing this out.
So I had this TV for a short while, and ended up returning it. When I would run 1440p 120 from my pc, there was a line of pixels at the very top of the screen which would reflect the bottom line of pixels. Also, I couldn't get over how basic the settings menus where. I eventually settled on the vizio p series quantum, and while it isn't without its own issues, I like it better than the TCL.
@@BigSugarRC Quoted from a Reddit post I found while researching the tv for PC gaming use. I don't own one so I can't test it, let me know if it helps would be good to know since I am looking at buying one.
I’ve had a series S for two years and just got a series X ordered. Have a 4K UHD 60 Hz I’m just wondering if I should expect to see any major differences?
Maybe set up a private match, with or without bots, then you don't have to keep jumping in and out of lobbies, you can run the same map on both easily for comparisons.

So is 4K at 60hz gonna be just fine for the next gen consoles? I currently have a 1080p TV. And honestly i feel like any 4K tv is gonna be an upgrade no matter what. Do i need 4K 120hz?
That’s exactly correct, Sam! To get 4K120, you’re going to shell out at least $1K on a TV. You may or may not notice a difference in 4K60 and 4K120 depending on the game. Remember, the game developer has to make 4K120 available in game. So there’s a lot to it than just changing settings. A TV like this TCL is a huge step up from what you currently have. It’s not the BEST TV, but it’s also not the WORST TV - amzn.to/2HQIiyS
So I finally just now got a Xbox series x after months of trying and maybe there was an update to fix this but when I play Cold War in 1440p at 120hz on my tlc 6 series I am able to get 1440p at 120hz with variable refresh rate. No hdr though, I’m hoping Microsoft will patch this at some point because it doesn’t make sense not to have hdr at 1440p when they sell a Xbox series s that’s is specifically a 1440p console. Just wanted to let you know vrr does work in 1440p 120hz now for me. Which I personally prefer 1440p 120z for call of duty and halo. Story games or story mode I will always choose 4K 60hz with hdr. I also quit using vrr because there seems to be some king of weird lines/flickering at the top of my tv when using vrr. Maybe some compatibility issues since vrr is still so new with 4K TVs.
I and snagged a pre ordered series x at Launch and when switching to 1440p/120hz to play my shooter games I could still use vrr and hdr snd Dolby hdr remains checked even after unchecking allow 4K. But in game it never actually apps read which does suck. I haven’t tested a ps5 and am curious if ps5 even allows 1440p option. I am waiting to final fantasy 7 or Spider-Man 2 launches before buying a ps5 because there really hasn’t been a need yet. God of war ragnorok, miles morales, and horizon forbidden west have all been on ps4 still. I usually wait till there’s atleast a couple true next gen only exclusives until I upgrade my PlayStation since I mainly use Xbox/pc/steam deck for everyday gaming and switch/PlayStation for there exclusive. Splatoon 3 is awesome on switch and Mario/Zelda/Pokémon. I’m actually about to upgrade my monitor to 1440p hdr Samsung g7 27in monitor. Anyone know if 1440p/120hz works with hdr even on a 1440p monitor?
Your comments are truly accurate. What you lose to play 1440p or 4K 120 with 2.1 is not worth it. I have an LG Nano. Same deal. 60 4K with HDR, is the way to go. If your really hard core forget the TV and get a $150 144hz monitor. The monitor is small enough so you don’t notice the graphics drop as much. Let’s just be happy with 4K 60. With HDR and ray tracing.I did not buy an expensive tv to have a crap image. The TCL is everything you will ever need for many years and it’s way better than the nano. My friend has the TCL. Watching Sports is probably the only good thing about 120hz panel TV, it’s got a quicker response to motion, which the TCL looks great.
This would be different with Xbox Series X and PS5 because they would handle these resolutions and frame rates different and may actually allow HDR with 1440p@120fps unlike the Xbox one X so we have to see when its actually released to the public and we can get proper comparisons for the actual next gen consoles
I just bought the LG 65" 65UQ7070ZUE with 120hz trumotion (60hz native) but has HDR, should I look for one with 120hz? I just got a Ps5 and it can do 120hz with some games. Thank you.
Good information, so basically it's better to game in 4k/60 due to better resolution. Honestly you do need a newer tv unless you want new tech. You just saved me some money. 💪🧐
I prefer 4k/60 over 1440/120 aswell, if you plan to play competitive games you might benefit from 120hz, but if ur not super competitive and dont want every single bit of advantage in FPS games, 4k60 is awesome
@@josipkaras1587 I just bought A8H with 5yr warranty from Best Buy the other day. I'll try to enjoy the PS5 on this display. 4k/60 and great PQ should be great for next gen console gaming. Waiting 1-2yrs until everything irons out before adopting 2.1.

I was pissed that my TCL 75 inch was only 60hz. BUT...I watched your video & then found out how to put it in HDR. WOW!!! Screw 120hz. I'm very happy now.
is there a PC monitor that can do BOTH 4k 60hz and 2k 144hz? i was reading the specs on monitors in online stores and when it said 60hz 4k it wasn't saying the refresh rate at lower resolutions
No and I get what you’re trying to say but monitors can’t output two resolutions natively (can’t change the number of physical pixels on a display). What you CAN do is get a 4K monitor with 144hz and then output a 1440p signal and play it at 144hz. It’ll look less crisp but if you have hardware that struggles, it can do that for fastpaced FPS games and then if you want you can switch it back to 4K 60hz for more cinematic games. However that defeats the purpose of this question because you’re gonna spend an exorbitant amount of money on that display anyways. But that’s a solution some people I know did.
@@juanacastro822 yeah 4k 120hz is so expensive you can buy 2 monitors instead of one basically, in other words i might as well buy one 2k monitor at 144hz and one 4k monitor at 60hz

When I watch sports on cable channels or movies on streaming services, I cannot see a noticeable difference between my TV's when it comes to motion clarity or the picture quality. Is 4K 120 hz meant only for serious video gaming like for Xbox Series and PS5? Greetings from 🇫🇮😊
wouldn’t surprise me. To say that 4K 120hz is the outlier is putting it mildly. I’d be shocked if more than 10% of the entire next gen library even supports 4k120hz. Don’t get me wrong, it’s fantastic but Sony and Microsoft are in over their heads with that concept. Xbox series X is technically more capable with 4K120 but my point still stands. HDMI 2.1 is nothing more than a future proof feature. You’ll pretty much set for the next 10 years or so but you’re going to be waiting that long for it to be even remotely viable
@@TechnoDad What if you buy a TV once every 5+ years (as long as it doesn't die beforehand) ? In other words - what will be the refresh rates of movies series then - and will games be still playable to some major extent of their glory with a 60 Hz TV setup ? Aka - future-proof?
Does TCL make tv's with HDMI 2.1? Please let me know as I'm looking for a low price TV with 4k 120hertz. My current TV is the TCL 75 inch 4 series and it tops out at 4k 60 hertz. Even tho the box said 120 hertz CMI, which I now know is fake 120 hertz.
I got screwed like that too, w/ my 75 inch from Walmart. It said 120hz, but CMI was in fine print. Put it in Low Latency, (Series X) and it enables HDR. (Says it in the Right upper corner, once a game is started.) Every time you play a game it puts on game mode. Then on the TV, go to Settings, & put picture mode, Bright HDR. You'll be surprised how better it looks.
You're not really comparing 2k 120hz to 4k 60hz. The game is not running at 120hz, it's capped at 60. You are only comparing the pixel resolution difference between 2k and 4k. When you're actually getting 120fps at 120hz in 2k, it is hands down superior to 4k 60hz for any competitive multiplayer game and IMO racing games. Temporal resolution is way more important than pixel resolution, and if you were actually getting more frames you'd obviously be able to see the difference. Edit: I typed this before I got to the part where you say you're not sure if it's the game or the tv limiting you. It's the game. If you have at least a gtx 9xx series video card for PC you could do true 120hz on the display and at least run the high refresh tests and demo videos. Might be able to find a old game that'll hit 120hz at 1080p or 2k too (CS GO maybe). Even just mousing across the desktop is better at 120hz.

@@TechnoDad The game, the console, is rendering at 60fps. It has a frame time of 16ms, the game itself, it's only making 60 frames. You can display it on a 360hz monitor but it's still only rendering at 60fps, there's still a 16ms time between each actual frame of game play, your inputs are only updating at 60hz. If you don't have 120 frames coming out of your source, I guess the XBox or the TV is just duplicating frames for you? You think you're getting a low frame time but who cares if it's just duplicating frames. How is 8ms + 8ms any different than 16ms? You need a computer or a xbox series x/ps5 to render the game at a constant 120fps to a 120hz display, then you have 8ms updates between each frame, your input is updating at 120hz, it is a night and day difference. Been playing in 2k/120hz for 4 years on my Qnix monitor and there's millions of people with high refresh rate monitors that will tell you the same thing. You can feel it just mousing around the desktop, it's not even an argument. This is like watching a DVD upscaled to 4k and saying 4k isn't worth it. In that hypothetical you're not really seeing a 4k image, it's taking 480p of pixels and upscaling it for you. In this TV situation, you're looking at 60fps on 120hz tv, it's duplicating frames the same way the 'soap opera' post processing effect double frames and saying 'Oh 120hz isn't worth it' when you've never experienced it.
@Chair Force a 120 FPS game isn’t just ideal, it’s necessary for a comparison between 4K 60 and 1440p 120. If you’re playing a first person shooter, and it takes you 1 second to turn 360 degrees, in a 60 fps game there will be 60 pictures displayed in that second of you turning no matter if you’re on a 60hz screen or a 6 million hz screen. Only If you do the same experiment on a 120 fps first person shooter will you actually be able to make a fair comparison between 4K 60 vs 1440p 120. Imagine if this video was done on a game that capped at 1440p, but max frame rate was 120 he’d be saying 4K 60 isn’t worth it. For fast paced games that can be displayed at higher frame rates, a faster refresh rate to match it is always better.

Interesting video, but confusing/disappointing since in theory HDMI 2.0 *should* allow both HDR (ie. 10-bit color) and VRR at 1440p/120Hz. This does require that the source device output with 4:2:2 chroma subsampling. I hope that the new consoles and graphics cards will support this sort of output.
It does Man as it’s not HDMI or The Television as instead it’s a limitation of current Gen XboxOneX which won’t allow Hdr to be used without having allow 4K checked but that won’t be an issue with The Xbox Series X as you can select Native 1440p 120fps with Hdr without needing to allow 4K so Yea Xbox Series X Will do 1440p 120fps Hdr on the TCL R635 no problems at all

Nitro Glycerin i am 100% sure of 2 things.
1. 1440p 120hz will 100% be available on the series x. Its available on the series s, and is currently available on the xbox one x. Its going to be a toggle option in the settings for sure

Would you say I should just get a vizio 60hz tv or go with a few more hounded for the Samsung 120hz?

Put it in Low Latency, (Series X) and it enables HDR. (Says it in the Right upper corner, once a game is started.) Every time you play a game it puts on game mode. Then on the TV, go to Settings, & put picture mode, Bright HDR. You'll be surprised how better it looks.

Will the PS5 allow upscaled 1440p to 4K? And can 4K 60hz, downscaled to 1080p 120hz to play cod?
No and no.
It's actually about frame time. Here's a great video on the situation - ruclips.net/video/4sP6H1lK6XI/видео.html Even though the game may be capped at 60, the TV is refreshing at a faster rate. Either way, if games are capped at 1440p without VRR or HDR, then it's not really worth it to play in 120Hz.
You're right, this does not help the tcl. Trading FPS for HDR is not a decision I want to make.
@Chair Force a 120 FPS game isn’t just ideal, it’s necessary for a comparison between 4K 60 and 1440p 120.

This 27ul850 w ticks all boxes for me 27 inch 4k 60 hdr 400, height adjust, dp 1.4 and x2 hdmi 2.0, its a good all rounder without the gamer look. sure id love to get 27 inch 4k hdr 600, 144hz, 1x dp 1.4, x2 hdmi 2.1 ports, but that will be over 2 grand in Australia easy at the start of next year from what i can find.
If you have to have high refresh rate and can handle dropping down resolution the ASUS VG27AQL1A 27inch IPS WQHD FreeSync/G-Sync 170Hz with hdr 400 Gaming Monitor looks like a great option for pc and new gen consoles especially with height adjust, i gotta protect the neck these days.
looking foward to tomorrows video!
The only issue is if you want 120Hz from a console, you will still need HDMI 2.1 ports.
@@TechnoDad Yeah 100% Techno Dad! The two options i suggested were just good all rounders for people who could deal without the full new gen features, 4k hdr 600 dp 1.4 and hdmi 2.1 x2 144hz.
VRR works between 35-40 FPS and 60-65 FPS. In that window. Otherwise VRR don’t work boss.
So VRR between 32 FPS and 65 FPS. That window only.
Very nice Comparaison
Thank you!
Nice tv. Channa will be great a review for the Hisense Q9G
I have the H9G
@@TechnoDad 😱. A review 🙏🏽. Do you think have a good performance (1 - 10)🤔
can you compare it to the hisence roku tv 2020 model
I can't get it to work in borderlands 3, I have my Xbox set to 1440p and 120hz but when I try and put borderlands in 120 fps the screen just goes black.
Works in other games though.
So does the 65r635 have 120 hz
Can you still stream 4K at 120?
Perfect map to show the difference. 1440p looked washed out and low rez comparably speaking. I'll keep the 4k HDR if I have a choice. This is one guy reason to avoid the TCL r635 tho. Thanks for the vid.
1440p is NOT washed out what are you talking about? LMAO
Any idea why I can’t do 1440p 120 on a PC with a GTX 1080? My nvidia control panel only allows 30hz. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi Stuart! I'm not sure at all. I have a 1080Ti in my gaming PC, but I'd have to connect it up. Do you want to email me so we can get into detail? Technodad55 at gmail dot com.
@@TechnoDad sent.
You don't set 30hz on nvidia you right click the desktop and do it through windows.... Watch a youtube called how to set monitor to 144hz or whatever your screen does
Go to advanced display options in Windows settings and change refresh rate there to 120 or 144hz
Howcome there is no 4k set on the tv with the 120hz?
This TV does not support 4K 120Hz
Well y’all trippin tbh cause he playing on one x the series x|s will do 1440p way better come on na
Exactly lol. He not even playing true 120fps. Xbox one X does support it
@@Gil172 and you notice 120 and dont want to go back to 60😂
My wife’s tv does 1440 120. My tv is 4k 60 with hdr. Been playing a lot of halo. I’ll take the 4k 60.
I have pre ordered the Xbox Series X. I am now stuck in the dilemma of what monitor to buy for it. Obviously, to get 4k 120Hz on the new xbox, I would need a HDMI 2.1 monitor which I cannot afford. However, say I bought a 4k Monitor with 60Hz, will I be able to drop the 4k down to 1440p at 120 Hz? Is that how it works?
No your monitor probably won't have a high enough refresh rate to support 120hz so it a choice of either really.
Im going with 1440p 120hz as i think that to be the better option
Helps a lot
dos the new xboxs work on a 4k60hz tv
Yes!
Yes but itll only run 60fps
The Xbox series S doesn't do 4k!
@@netoe2983 wat about the x im getin a xbox
The vrr is like a bug or something on the series x according to digital foundry and the games they tested in 120hz

I don’t have a 4K tv but is 1440p@ 60hz better than 1080p@60hz for an Xbox one x
Yes , Definitely
I have Samsung q60r and i can play 1440p 120hz with freesync on, but no HDR.
Can I play 1440p at 120hz on a monitor (xbox series x)?
if your monitor supports it, yes, obviously. TV or monitor doesn't matter.
This video is a big fail im sorry.
Yes the x supports 120hz but games dont. You still play with 60.
There is no way someone would prefer 4k60 over 1440p 120 p or even 144 in a game like cod.
Personally I take 1080p 240 for fps.
But 120 would be a great jump for console IF the game acually supports it
It's actually about frame time.
@@TechnoDad hmm okay im sry, thank you for clearing that up.
But I acually did not feel any diffrent when I did try this on my pc monitors
(1440p 144 and 1080p 240) and my monitors both showed 120 in the xbox menu but switched back to 60 as soon I open a game.
I bought this TV thinking I’ll be able to have 4K @120hz but nope I’m returning it. You can get a Hisense Ug7 without breaking the bank and run 4k@ 120hz check it out
Yeah, it's annoying they aren't as clear about it.
Thank you
as far as I know the 120fps only works in warzone and not in modern warfare regular multiplayer, so you won't notice any difference in smoothness when you set your tv output at 1440p120hz.
Woah woah woah the TCL 6 series doesn’t do VRR at 120hz?
It does. I have the series x and it runs 1440p 120hz and VRR. This video is old

Yes!
there are only a few games that u need 120 when playin on the PS5 most games only run 60 anyway
Can you run 4k 120 with xbox???
Series x you can. But it only matters if a game can run at 120fps. He just did a useless test as cod is locked at 60 fps. So he changed resolutions and the frame rate didnt change at all. He got duped by the placebo effect
Yes. But it depends on your tv and the type of game
I have a TCL 4k tv, when I go to 4k on my Xbox I can't run 60hz at all but when I go to 1440p I can run 60hz. Can someone help me?
Hi! Which Xbox?
Xbox series s
I also have tcl 6 series. Same tv you have there. Don’t see an option for 1440p
Edit: found the solution. You have to go to that specific HDMI setting on the tv and enable everything game mode, refresh rate etc. Kind of weird. But it worked.
try the other hdmi ports, usually only 1 of the ports allows you to run higher refresh rates. that could be the issue if you havent figured it out by now.
Big fail my dude! Lol!! There are no games that can currently run at 120fps so the 120hz wont make a difference!! Youre gunna need to wait for the series x and youre going to need to wait for a game that will run at 120 fps. Thats why hdmi 2.1 is such a big sell now
^^THIS^^
Shh, he just did it so he could game without his wife getting mad at him.
Are you saying that the Xbox One X version of CoD that he's using is capped to a 60Hz frame rate? And therefore changing the video output format of the console to 1440p@120Hz just drops the resolution without actually raising the frame rate? (The console is just showing each frame twice?)
@@DaveNagy1 yea. its weird xbox one x gives you that option considering no current gen games have the option to do 120hz. you can google which games have uncapped framerates but they are all currently capped at 60 fps. maybe the menu options refresh faster tho lol
Geuss he’s right now even rocket league has 120fps
No lo recomiendo, es lo mismo que h a tv de 60hz. Me co pre un TCL c755 y no noto lq diferencia
So I guess that 4k 120hz TVs are just not worth it right now.
Yeah, I'm sure the 2020 TVs will go down in price but the 2021 TVs will have more features.
You do realise the game is capped at 60fps... making this test extremely flawed lol. A PC comparison would’ve been more accurate

4k 60hz looks clean...
But do I need 120fps then?
I like this cause you can get a 4K 60hz tv cheap
I play on PC at 1440p 144 fps and it blows 4k 60 fps out of the water. Sounds like a limitation of the Xbox here.
Virgin
It would be a limitation if console didn't have console party. So for competitive games ik the fps is for the most part the same across the board. And for singleplayer games I definitely want 4k 60 for better visuals. The only time 144hz would even matter is in a pc vs pc pvp game
@@scenekidd155 Umm... you can play COD from PC crossplay with PS4 and XBox. So you can play this exact game on this TV at 1440@120Hz w HDR against console users who are stuck at 60 FPS.
