Yes, for the t4i (650D) the canon webcam driver look better. However the frame rate is only 15-17 FPS. While the HDMI output isn’t as clear or crisp, it is a lot smoother.

Hey Dude! Great video! Ive been looking for a solution for the T4i for 2 weeks now... I came across your video, I also noticed you're using it in your Cyberpunk videos. Im wondering if you could explain or perhaps even make a video showing how you set up the hdmi from start to finish in OBS/Streamlabs or wtv you use. Cause when I try to set it up with HDMI it looks far worse than yours. It also has the liveview gray frame around the video. For me it looks more like its outputting a really low resolution to my capture card. Not sure why?! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I've been working on a follow up video to talk more about the setup. I should have that out this week. So stay tuned :D As for the setup I am using the canon t4i with the magic lantern firmware. Within the magic lantern options menu I use two settings: * Clear Overlays: Always * Power Save in LiveView > 30-minute timer: Disabled In OBS, to get the image to fit the screen without the surrounding black bars, I crop them out and resize the image to fit the scene. Depending on how large the scene size is, it can look a bit pixelated. I recommend trying to keep the scaling you do to a minimum. As for my lens, I use a canon 24MM EF-S with a polarized lens filter. This lens gives me a good overall wide angle, with a good f/stop, and the filter cleans up the image and helps remove light reflection from my glasses. I hope helps, if you have questions before I get the new video up, reach out on stream: Monday, Wednesday from 0100 UTC and Saturday 1230 UTC on basically all the platforms, including RUclips, Twitch, Facebook, and Periscope (twitter); I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have while live.

I am using a t3i with the same capture card. However the HDMI out resolution is very low. Like 480p. The picture looks great when live viewing, but as soon as I hit record in obs the quality drops significantly
Sadly this is kinda how it goes. The older cameras don't have a full HD output, or even an output that's a true 16:9. That said you can crop the output from the camera and fit the image to the screen within OBS.
Not true on the 30 minute setting. Magic lantern on my t4i lets me disable it and i have 5-8hr streams with it. You disable power saving and the 30 minute timer in magic lantern.
I appreciate the comment - Magic lantern with the lua fix, under experiments, provides the power saving options; without the lua fix those options don’t exist, which is what I was running when this video was made. Hey, thanks for the video. I have a 650d but there is allways this focus thing when the cam sees a face. So my face when I use it as a webcam in OBS. Can you tell me how to remove this auto focus square thing without deleting the auto focus? :D I have a 20€ Capture Card and it works great except this square around my face when i stream :(
The easiest way to remove the focus box is to turn off the auto focus; this is what I do because the auto focus is slow with my lens. That said, if you install the magic lantern firmware there’s an option to remove all overlays over the hdmi output, which will remove the focus box too. If you have a look at my early streams you can see that the focus was turned on because my camera was constantly refocusing, but there’s no overlay. As I Mentioned, I now just disable the auto focus. Before I stream I setup my focus using the canon desktop applications and then do my best to remain in the focal plain for the entire stream. I hope this helps.

But when I tried installing your Magic Lantern file (ML-SETUP.FIR), I got stuck at 4% and the camera gave me an "Update file error. Please check the memory card and reload the battery and try again" message. I tried formatting the 16 GB card and the issue persists. Could you give me a solution? Thanks.
I suspect that the issue is that the base firmware needs to be reinstalled, then reformat your sdcard through the camera. However, I’ve not encountered that issue so I don’t have a specific solution to the issue your describing but jump in the discord and let’s see if we can work it out. peznauts.com/discord You could try reinstalling the 1.0.4 firmware the dump the entirety of my config to your sdcard and see if magic lantern loads, instructions here: github.com/peznauts/camera-t4i-firmware
Yes you could turn it off and back on, but with the web cam drivers you don’t have to. Furthermore, with the latest magic lantern firmware, using the lua fix, there’s an option to disable the 30 minute shut down entirely. So while you could just turn it off an on again, in my opinion it’s a far better experience to not have to.

Hi Anil, 1) the canon webcam drivers are not officially supported for the t4i however they work. You can select any camera and download the drivers to install them. 2) in order to get a clear hdmi signal you need to upgrade the firmware. I’m running the magic lantern firmware, specifically this release builds.magiclantern.fm/jenkins/job/lua_fix/451/artifact/platform/650D.104/magiclantern-lua_fix.2020Sep26.650D104.zip - once you have the new firmware installed you’ll be able to disable the auto shutdown and get a clean hdmi signal (no overlays). Let me Lee if you have any other questions.
Hey, many thanks for this informative content. I have a question. Can you stream 720p 60fps instead of 1080p 30. I know t4i support max 1080 30 or 720 60. If it is possible, what are the camera settings ? If not possible 720p 60fps, Is it because of the capture card or the t4i?
Sadly the HDMI output on the t4i(650D) is only 1080i and it still has black bars on the side, even with custom firmware. In OBS, or other broadcasting software, you can crop the bars out and the display looks good but it’s more 1050i than anything else. In terms of FPS it’s locked at 30. The options for live view on this aging camera are extremely limited. All that said, I’m still using it for all of my streams and IMO looks great, especially when the primary focus is on the content I’m streaming, not my talking head.

Yes, for the t4i (650D) the canon webcam driver look better. However the frame rate is only 15-17 FPS. While the HDMI output isn’t as clear or crisp, it is a lot smoother.
@@cloudnull ahh, so you would have to sacrifice quality for the FPS. Fair. Thanks for the reply :)

Yes it is
I installed a magic lantern, but the camera turns off every 30 minutes. Is there an additional part that needs to be set?
The setting is only available if you install the version with the lua fix. You can download everything you need here, which includes all of my settings - github.com/peznauts/camera-t4i-firmware - once installed you’ll be able to stream with you camera without issues.

For the life of me I can't find the sticky shutter option, do you know if that has moved somewhere?

why doesnt your audio sync up? did u record separately ?
The audio is in sync but it looks off due to the dual recording inputs. On the left image it seems a little out of sync due to the usb capture delay, but that’s not something I have to worry about as I don’t use the usb input while recoding or live.

The easiest way is by using the magic lantern firmware. You can use my exact settings by following the instructions found within the repository I maintain.

I think you might have saved my life lol I've been searching everywhere on how to get my T4i from shutting off. Now just need to figure out how to have the beta drivers keep the live view awake while I stream using the capture card.
If you use the magic lantern firmware you can keep the camera awake without having to install the webcam drivers. @@cloudnull I wasn't able to use that firmware :/. I'll run through the list and see if I can get a firmware installed
Just make sure the camera model number matches the download. For the t4i you’ll need the file with “650D” in it.
@@cloudnull Thanks for the reply! Yeah I got it working correctly! The firmware I was starting with in my T4i needed to be at 104 before putting in the magic lantern firmware. Thanks for your help and videos!
So stay tuned :D
As for the setup I am using the canon t4i with the magic lantern firmware.
Within the magic lantern options menu I use two settings:
* Clear Overlays: Always
* Power Save in LiveView > 30-minute timer: Disabled
In OBS, to get the image to fit the screen without the surrounding black bars, I crop them out and resize the image to fit the scene.

We’ve talked about the lua fix a bit here in the various comments and I’ve actually put together a repo making it easy for folks to apply the appropriate firmware and all associated settings without needing to hunt for all the files needed to make it go - github.com/peznauts/camera-t4i-firmware

Are you using the magic lantern firmware as well?
Hi! I currently stream using a Logitech Brio, and I've been searching for a new camera to stream with. I'm wondering if you would recommend this camera over a brio?
I would not recommend the t4i over the brio. If you’re looking for a better camera I would probably go for an entry level mirrorless camera, with a preference towards something with interchangeable lenses. My current stream camera is an m200 and I love it. If you’re interested in the quality difference between the t4i vs something like an m200 check out this unlisted video ruclips.net/video/vm8DSUJmbJs/видео.html
@@cloudnull thanks so much. I didnt even know that there is an open scource "homebrew" like magic lantern.
Now i dont need the usb connection for my 650. I just take the 20 Dollar capture Card and remove the overlay (Focus Box)

Man, seriously informative vid! I learned so much. One question though. I have the boss's EOS 650D with a firmware version of 1.0.5. I installed your 1.0.4 firmware with no issue, and the camera's version is now 1.0.4.
Yes. With either a capture device or via the usb drivers you can use this setup for zoom, Skype, meet, etc.

@@cloudnull I am alittle confused you see haha! So to use my camera the same way you use yours I would need an hdmi capture device and the webcam drivers from canon and im set to go?
@@User-0192-c8d Yes, I use both a capture card and the USB input. @@cloudnull Thank you for the reply! So you use both the mini hdmi out and AV out from the camera? so there are 2 wires coming out from the camera to the computer?
Your video is very helpful! Thanks for posting. Two questions:
1) Do you have a link to the Canon Webcam drivers? I have gone here (www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/self-help-center/eos-utility) but when I type in T4i nothing happens.
2) Despite not having the Canon utility, I was able to use my T4i on a Google Hangout (using the elgato capture card). In doing so I see all of the specifications from the viewfinder (i.e. aperture, battery power, etc) and the video feed shuts off after a few seconds. Do you know how to fix this?
Hi Anil,
1) the canon webcam drivers are not officially supported for the t4i however they work.
