I would like to do this. t4i does not seem to be compatible with the EOS Webcam Utility. In reddit threads, they made it work but only streams at 10fps. LOL.
I did a video showing the difference between the frame rate of the eos webcam Utility vs a cheap capture card ruclips.net/video/KtRrN5hzIYc/видео.html The frame rate of the eos webcam utility is 17 , and not terrible given the usb 1.0 interface on the camera. As for the eos utility, there’s nothing you have to do to make it work. Just install and plug and play. While canon doesn’t list the t4i and other cameras as compatible, most cameras work perfectly. That said, as parawizard mentioned, a cheap capture card with the magic lantern firmware will net you a much better experience. I have a complete dump of everything I use and instructions to install if you’re interested github.com/peznauts/camera-t4i-firmware
I’m assuming you’re connecting your camera to a windows pc over usb, right? If so here’s where I’d start. When dealing with driver issues my first recommendation is to uninstall all potential conflicts and start fresh. Go to your add and remove programs, search for canon, and remove everything canon related. Then reboot your computer to be sure nothing is still loaded. Then download a new copy of the canon webcam utility and install it; only install the webcam Utility, nothing else. Once the web camera Utility is installed, reboot again. Now try the camera and see if you get the same lag issues from before. If you continue having the lag after installing the new drivers, I’d also recommend trying a different USB port. On a desktop the ports on the back of the computer are recommended. If you’re using a usb hub try eliminating it and connecting the camera directly to the computer. If you have questions join the discord peznauts.com/discord maybe we can work through the issue in real time. Good luck and let me know how it goes.
For the t4i I use both the micro hdmi and usb cables. I do this so I can refocus the camera as needed via the pc when using the EOS utility. As for the webcam drivers, you can download any version of the drivers from the canon website. They’ll all work from any camera.
@@cloudnull My issue had something to do with the HDMI cable the shorter one just disconnected when the cable was at an angle, replaced it with a longer one and it works fine now An Annoying thing about this whole mess tho is I didn't realise how quickly the battery times out so had to reschedule my stream 😂😂
@@LyronAguiar they make a power adapter for the camera. I would highly recommend getting one. That way you don’t have to worry about the battery while you’re streaming.
@@cloudnull last question, re autofocus. By turning off autofocus, do you mean turning off the switch on the lens? I'm planning to use the t4i to stream my pocket billiards tournaments so there will be a lot of constant movement.
You can download the eos utility from the canon website. You’ll need to go looking. Last time I needed to download the utility I got it from downloading an early version of the eos utility 3 which had version 2 bundles with it.
I'm confused about how to download the utility program you have mine isn't working and it's called something different also "Digital photo professional 4" idk If I downloaded the wrong driver but it's also not detected my camera any help?
Checkout github.com/peznauts/camera-t4i-firmware for all of the firmware and setting I use on my camera. As for the utility, I use EOS utility 2.x, sadly the utility isn’t supported by canon any longer so it’s getting a little difficult to find. I’d check CNET for a download link and I’ll look at adding the utility installer to my repo for future ease of use.
If you download the eos utility from canon the installer will come with version 2 and 3. To connect to your 650D camera you’ll just need to use version 2.
@@AdamPTrainz I have t looked in a while, but maybe you don’t need that given the updated setup using the provided config I’ve complied here github.com/peznauts/camera-t4i-firmware if you’re still looking for the specific eos utility and it’s no longer available via canon, maybe check cnet? I’ll have a look and post a comment here as soon as I find something.
Where do you connect the HMDI from the camera to? Does it connect with the onboard HMDI port on the motherboard or the discrete graphics card? or neither and into a USB port?
The camera hdmi cable needs to be connected to a capture device. In many cases this is a usb capture device or a pcie daughter-board. When I recorded this video I used the AVerMedia live gamer duo, however, the original video in this series was captured with a cheap usb capture device.
@@cloudnull thanks for your reply. whats your solution to the battery life in your camera? Do you just quickly swap them out when it starts to die or is there anyway to keep it constantly charging while in use? thinking about doing this with my T4i in place of a webcam. your series is literally perfect for me
If you connect the camera and computer through the capture board, the screen of the camera will turn yellow and the quality of the picture will be bad on the computer. It's good on camera and webcam utilities. What is the cause?
I don’t know what would cause this issue specifically. It sounds like an issue with the capture card or the HDMI cable being used. I can tell you I’m streaming with this camera (t4i) and setup (plugged into an AVerMedia live gamer duo), and I’m not seeing the same issues, check out the stream here for quality references - peznauts.com/twitch I would try doing a factory reset on the camera and any third party firmware you might be using. Start with the camera in a 100% stock setup. Plug it Into the capture card and work with the setup until you get a clean picture. Once you have a good signal, re-apply any custom firmware (like magic lantern) and again work with the setup until you get a clean picture. Working with the stock firmware and software should help rule out any hardware issues you may be having. Assuming there’s nothing wrong with the hardware you should be able to rework your camera configuration into a good state. Good luck.
@@cloudnull Thank you for your answer. The quality issue has improved since the capture board changes, but the camera turns off every 30 minutes when used as a webcam. Is there anything else I need to set up?
@@평범한생존일기 yes. You can resolve the 30 minute shutdown issue by installing the magic lantern firmware with the LUA fix. @@cloudnull Yo thank you! I have a question. I have windows 7, if I use the HDMI out. Will I still need the webcam utility driver installed to work in OBS. If not is there a driver option that will work with a capture card other than elgato?
There are no videos on making this work on windows 7. If we can figure that out it would be a good video to create for those who still havent made the shift to win 10.
@@linksfiery22 I'm not sure if the webcam driver works on Windows 7; officially it seems canon only supports Windows 10. That said, you can download the windows 10 version and see if it will install on Windows 7. If it does install you're mileage may vary. You can capture footage in live view mode without the Webcam drivers and expensive capture cards. Before getting the AVerMedia Live Gamer duo, I used a cheap HDMI capture card and highly recommend it - amzn.to/38qYD6V - This little capture card is really affordable and works great, and should be compatible with Windows 7.
@@cloudnull Yes my question is that when you use the capture card do you still need to use the webcam utility to stream?? Since I cannot get it on win 7 im wondering if there is seperate software that is used while using the capture card. I actually just ordered that one! thanks.
I don't know if Alpha gaming lite is good or bad thing, but I appreciate it 🤗 Thanks for the comment, and I hope you've been able to get your legacy canon camera working for your stream.
The webcam drivers for the t4i (650d) isn’t specifically supported by canon, so there’s no official download. However you can select any camera and download any version of the webcam utility and it’ll work with your camera. The webcam utility is universal and not something you have to tie specifically to the camera body. So to get the webcam utility running, go to the download page, select any camera, and then navigate to the webcam utility driver link.

Hi sir! I'm a little late to this EOS Webcam bandwagon. Was hoping to ask which eos model utility you use for the t4i? I don't see it listed on the website. And are the settings you shared for ML still goodfor 2022 use? Thanks a bunch!
I use eos utility 2. Sadly canon doesn’t package it by itself any longer, however you can find it bundled with older releases of eos utility 3. In terms of magic lantern, I put all my settings into this repo github.com/peznauts/camera-t4i-firmware if you install ML from there you’d have my exact setup which still works today.
@Peznauts what are your audio settings? I experience quite a delay between audio and video while using the hdmi output settings through OBS. Any suggestions as to make the delay smaller of disappear would be great.
I don't use the audio interface on the camera, I have an external USB Microphone which I use. I mix my mic input using voicemeter and connect it to OBS via a virtual interface. While I could direct connect the USB mic to OBS, I mix it though voicemeter so I can route the audio to things like discord, xbox chat, blizard chat, etc.
While live streaming and recording to my stream pc, I’ve never had the camera over heat and I’ve streamed for 6+ hours. However, folks in the neighborhood have said they’ve had over heat issues when recording to the internal sdcard.
Update, got the proper drivers, while I still don't have all these options I was able to broadcast to OBS. Only issue is I have my HDMI from my camera going into my capture card (which allows up to 60FPS following your parent vid) but it won't show an image in OBS through my capture device (USB3.0 HD Video Capture). I had it connect once before when I first tried a few weeks ago but it since disconnected which is why I'm here. Anytime I try to switch back to that setting to get my smooth movements back the camera just shuts off. I'm stuck at the 30FPS the webcam utility gives me.
Another update, I got a feed through capture card, but it doesn't show me as one full picture. Imagine how OBS windows itself infinitely, my camera feed is doing that but not only with me in it, but my T4i's onboard display, so I see battery life and all that, and I'm smushed with a bunch of displays in one image I'm so confused can't find any clear info.

Thanks for the video! Sadly, the Eos utility icon isn't popping up for me. I went onto Canon and download T3i (I have the T4i but there's no option for CANADA) window utility. From there I open my download file, when I click Eos Webcam Utility, the wizard setup page pops up and it says repair or remove. When I click repair it says source can't be found.... Help please.
I’m not 100% sure what the issue would be there however If you’ve not already, I’d try removing the drivers, rebooting, and reinstalling. If that doesn’t work reach out on the discord. Maybe we can try and troubleshoot it IRL. peznauts.com/discord
If there’s a will, there’s a way. I’m going to dust mine off. Very helpful....thank you!
Glad it was helpful! let me know what your experience with the camera is. Hope you have a great one.
hello, YOU helped me so MUCH, thank you o great WISE ONE! - Keep it up !!!
I am the 400th sub.
Thank you!
I would like to do this. t4i does not seem to be compatible with the EOS Webcam Utility. In reddit threads, they made it work but only streams at 10fps. LOL.
camera has to compress the video to send it over usb. $20 hdmi capture usb dongle should work just fine though.
@@cloudnull Thanks man!
Which drivers should I update to stop the lag during zoom meetings.. I have canon t5i and it freezers after 30 seconds.. Please help.
@@cloudnull OK thank you so much ❤️
Hi bro, thanks for video. How can i remove green screen during live stream?
You can remove a green screen with a simple mask filter on the video input, within OBS www.streamscheme.com/how-to-set-up-your-green-screen-in-obs/
@@cloudnull thank you 👍
So which Webcam utility driver did you download? Since there isn’t one for the t4i? And are you still using a micro hdmi cable here?
thats what im trying to figure out
For the t4i I use both the micro hdmi and usb cables. I do this so I can refocus the camera as needed via the pc when using the EOS utility. As for the webcam drivers, you can download any version of the drivers from the canon website. They’ll all work from any camera.
my canon eos 650d keep turning off and on while i use it as webcam on discord. how to fix this?
Check out github.com/peznauts/camera-t4i-firmware
The camera just times doesn't seem to be picked up by the capture card
What times are you trying to get?
@@cloudnull I meant to say some times my bad 😂😅
@@cloudnull My issue had something to do with the HDMI cable the shorter one just disconnected when the cable was at an angle, replaced it with a longer one and it works fine now
An Annoying thing about this whole mess tho is I didn't realise how quickly the battery times out so had to reschedule my stream 😂😂
@@LyronAguiar they make a power adapter for the camera. I would highly recommend getting one. That way you don’t have to worry about the battery while you’re streaming.
Does the Canon 650D camera transmit audio over HDMI, or does it only send the video signal, requiring audio to be captured from another source?
No the 650D doesn’t have audio over hdmi. The hdmi was only intended as a monitor out. Audio will need to be captured elsewhere.
Will a 32gb sd card be enough to run a canon t4i with magic lantern sending hdmi audio video to my laptop?
Of course.
@@cloudnull last question, re autofocus. By turning off autofocus, do you mean turning off the switch on the lens? I'm planning to use the t4i to stream my pocket billiards tournaments so there will be a lot of constant movement.
@@rendevera3134 yes. I disable autofocus on the lens. That way there’s no issues and I can maintain constant focal length.
Hello, from where do you download EOS Rebel T4i ?
I buy my camera without CD,
and i don't find that software on net ...
Thanks
I’d check CNET for a download link and I’ll look at adding the utility installer to my repo for future ease of use.
i cant the correct eos utility anywhere can anyone help by sending the link he got it from?
If you download the eos utility from canon the installer will come with version 2 and 3. To connect to your 650D camera you’ll just need to use version 2.
I can’t find it tho it doesn’t come up like yours
Do you just quickly swap them out when it starts to die or is there anyway to keep it constantly charging while in use? thinking about doing this with my T4i in place of a webcam. your series is literally perfect for me
@@wigglebums11 I use the following battery adapter amzn.to/3pR0KIx to keep my camera plugged in. That way I don’t have to swap batteries.
I can tell you I’m streaming with this camera (t4i) and setup (plugged into an AVerMedia live gamer duo), and I’m not seeing the same issues, check out the stream here for quality references - peznauts.com/twitch
I would try doing a factory reset on the camera and any third party firmware you might be using.
I’m running the following version builds.magiclantern.fm/jenkins/job/lua_fix/452/artifact/platform/650D.104/magiclantern-lua_fix.2020Dec28.650D104.zip once you’re running that firmware you can disable the shutdown feature.
@@cloudnull Resolved. Thank you for your answer. I wish you all the best.^^

How do you take the box focus out of the video?
The canon overlays on the t4i (650D) can be removed using the magic lantern firmware. builds.magiclantern.fm/650D-104.html
I use the daily build on my stream and have found it super stable.
I actually just ordered that one! thanks.
Helpful video. Your video felt like Alpha gaming lite !!!🤣
♥
I don't know if Alpha gaming lite is good or bad thing, but I appreciate it 🤗
Thanks for the comment, and I hope you've been able to get your legacy canon camera working for your stream.
for the t4i what utility did you download?
The webcam drivers for the t4i (650d) isn’t specifically supported by canon, so there’s no official download. However you can select any camera and download any version of the webcam utility and it’ll work with your camera. The webcam utility is universal and not something you have to tie specifically to the camera body. So to get the webcam utility running, go to the download page, select any camera, and then navigate to the webcam utility driver link.
Helo where can i get the link for 650d utility ?
Checkout github.com/peznauts/camera-t4i-firmware I’ve put together a repo containing everything you’ll need to get your camera setup. Drop into the discord if you have questions getting started, happy to help in more real time peznauts.com/discord
When I'm using a power adapter instead of a battery, the USB connection just doesn't work properly, so I can't launch the utility :(
That’s strange. Kinda sounds like a short?
what softawre do i download?
Check the replies for links , but to make all this work you’ll need magic lantern and version 2 of the eos utility.
What about the heat? Does it overheat?
While live streaming and recording to my stream pc, I’ve never had the camera over heat and I’ve streamed for 6+ hours. However, folks in the neighborhood have said they’ve had over heat issues when recording to the internal sdcard.
My set up doesn't look anything like this after downloading the 70D drivers I only get the picture and it doesn't let me set up on OBS
Im about confuse to setting the magic latern after i installed your file. There's no option like the last picture in your github.. i search for it like forever. Do i need to copy your ML folder to my SD card also ?
I’m actually going to a make a follow up video focused only on the installation and setup of magic lantern. It seems that the files needed to be successful are becoming harder to find, so I co-located everything you need with some basic instructions here: github.com/peznauts/camera-t4i-firmware
If you download that repository and extract the files to your sdcard, you should have everything you need to be successful, which includes all of the settings I use in stream and to make videos like this one.
@@cloudnull you should make a follow up man. Because I tried several things. . But the setting is not the same.. Almost default. I tried to copy your mL file to the folder but got eror in my canon..good thing I copy the ML before and copy it back..
@@ruzaqir354 what canon firmware are you running? I’ve talked to a few folks who had version 1.0.5 on their camera’s which was the source of some of the problems. Does the cam overheat if you use it as a webcam? I want to use it for my classes. Thanks!
While I guess overheating is possible, I’ve never once had a issue with it, even after multi-hour streams.
I have a Canon T3i, and from magic lantern to eos utility everything works great BUT if I connect the camera via HDMI to my (avermedia) capture card I only get something that looks like a noisy 320p signal. Straight to a monitor it looks fine doe. Any suggestions what might cause this? I even tried plugin an edid handshake device
The camera does have a limited output over HDMI but it should be much better than 320. I would suspect there’s something off in the settings as it pertains to the live view or recording aspect ratios. I too am using an avermedia capture card (live gamer duo) with my 650D and haven’t seen similar issues.
