I agree. This was a fantastic video. Unfortunately it didn't help me solve my problem but I still enjoyed the video.
This is how you make a troubleshooting video that pisses a person off because 80% of it is "in this video we're going to blah blah blah" filler. He spent more time telling us that he was _going_ to tell us something than he did actually telling us the information. This video could've been 30 seconds long.
Literally no website, video, tutorial, NOTHING has helped me fix this stupid problem for hours but you fixed it in 45 seconds. Thank you so much!!

The very first problem solved my problem! You are the only or at least one of the only people to address this issue.

I've been trying to use a Canon Rebel T6 (with no LCD) and capturing through the webcam utility. It does the Lagging thing you mentioned, but that fix won't help since it has no screen. Any advice?

Hi, I am having problems connecting my EOS600D.
You say that we need to quit the EOS Utility, but do I need to have that program or any other driver on the first place?
I dont have that one, only the EOS utility webcam utility . Thank you!
To use EOS Webcam Utility, I believe you do not need EOS Utility.

Hi markus, I had a specific problem with the EOS webcam utility where it wouldn't let me use "configure video" in OBS. I have plugged the camera in through a capture card and I am able to use "configure video" (through HDMI, not USB connection) but this button does not work with the USB connection running webcam utility. Any Ideas as to why?
That button doesn't work for me either. Maybe because there's nothing to configure.
I am trying to quit the EOS utility but it is not open on my Mac, any ideas. I went to force quite and nothing there. Would really appreciate some help

Hey Marcus, I'm having a problem with my M50 for some reason on OBS the resolution is between 720p and 576p I've tried to change the OBS settings and still the quality hasn't improved.
I saw that other people had the same problem but I didn't see anyone talking about it... Did you have this problem?
I haven't seen any "in between" resolution. On my system it's simply 1024x576 which works great for me.
are all "HDMI CORE" is the same? i link my core but seem to be not working could be the wrong core?
I don't know. I use a USB cable in this setup.

What software are you using? In OBS I add a 100 ms audio delay.
Hi I have a Canon EOS 4000D and it's on the list that can be used as a webcam, I'm unsure what lead i need as it doesn't have a typical usb port?
That's not a Canon model I've used. But on the M50 the connector is a USB Micro-B if I remember right.
I have set my dslr at 1080p, but in obs properties it is giving me 720p resolution only, even if I put 1080p in custom tab forcefully its showing black in my screen, when i switch to 720 again, I can see the video output in obs.
2nd problem is sometimes in my camera screen I can see myself but not in obs, you showed the first method to quit eos utility where I cant find in the bottom right of computer screen,
am i doing something wrong please help..!!

Are you talking about scenes in OBS Studio? On my setup it works with multiple scenes.
how do I check if the utility software has been installed? i did install it but it doesn't show on my taskbar yet the error lfrom 1:19 shows up
You can check if it's installed by going to Add or remove programs from the Windows start menu.

That's great to hear! I also like recording internally on the camera at the same time. There's a 30-minute limit, but the quality is higher.

Hi, does this work for MacBook laptops or only windows? I’m having problem with my Mac so I was told to buy video capture card.
I never tried on Mac, but I think there is a Mac driver.
I am facing a whole different issue,the utility application is detecting my cam(200DMII) and also sharing the live feed,but when i am turning on the obs and adding a new video capture window I am not able to add my cam... it's just not showing any other option either from obs default cam...I am not using any camlink device just the usb and Eos utility software...any kind of help is appreciated
Weird! For me it just shows up in OBS Studio as one of the cameras.
I have a T100 and am using the usb connection cable, would the hdmi port work if I got an hdmi to usb cable? Would the quality be better if I used that?
For a Canon camera to work as a webcam over HDMI, it needs to have clean HDMI. I don't know if that model has that.

I've been trying to no avail to get my EOS Canon 5D Mark ii to work with zoom on my Mac mini (2020-M1) computer (Big Sur 11.4) -- do you have any suggestions or am I just out of luck?
- I've updated the firmware on the camera...
- installed the latest 5D Mark ii Utility on my Mac...
- and because there is no Web-camera utility for the Mark ii, I've attempted to use a 6D Mark ii version...
- I also made sure to reboot my computer AND close out the Utility software (and my lens cap isn't on haha)...

From what I can see at www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/self-help-center/eos-webcam-utility, the 5D Mark II is supported. But I've never used the setup on a Mac.
The problems I've had with Macs are quite different. For one, always remove memory card to prevent access being hijacked.

Great video! I need to connect my canon Eos m50 mark ii to my OBS Studio for webcamming. The cables that are in the description, will the cable work for my MAC computer? I have a canon camera and Mac for streaming.
I've never tried on a Mac, but I think it should work the same.

Question about the black screen.
I got the Canon M50 Mark 2 camera just last Thursday and use it today for my church RUclips live stream. The lens is remove and I use OBS. It was working fine but couple minutes later, the black screen show up and I don't know how to fix the issue. I know the lens is remove and is there a way to fix the black screen so I don't always have to press the top button on the camera to make the video show again???

Just this morning the view on my computer is really laggy. Haven't changed anything and the LCD is facing the right way. Any suggestions? Could be a Windows Update I did a few days ago...
After 30 mins troubleshooting, solved it by changing the USB port that the cable was plugged into... odd!

Hi, what should be the AF settings as it is always going through the AF process when moving between the OBS scenes ?
I never had that exact problem. I keep my autofocus on face tracking, and when I switch scenes it just continues and is not hunting for focus. So long as the same source is in both scenes.
Hello Markus, I have with me a Macbook Air running OBS with EOS. Some days it works and some it gives off this black screen/ eos webcam utility error. I have tried your solutions and none are working for me... Any other go-arounds I can do?

I Have Canon 1300D the software recognise the camera when i plug it but OBS does not recongnise the EOS Utility at all. Could you help me please?
You need the EOS Webcam Utility (if your model is supported), not the EOS Utility.
I don't have EOS Utility Installed at all, but I always have the same issue. I see the EOS Utility Webcam logo in Zoom but, don't get any video. It sporadically opens the video after dozens( or even hundreds) of tries. Can you help with that? Thank you!

Hi I am using a Canon 80d and a Canon 600d into OBS studio at the same time, I use the screen capture on the 80D using the utility and use the Canon Webcam utility for the 600d , however the order I start it up as seems to make a difference and it seems to be temperamental when starting OBS, any advice ?
Wow, that's a creative setup! I haven't tried that one myself, so no real advice. An alternative could be to connect one of them via HDMI and a capture card.

my problem is it doesn't even show up as a selectable option in obs or zoom. it is nowhere to be found. I have downloaded the software, restarted my Mac, the Eos utility shows up so I know I have it. I make sure to quit so it's not hogging the camera, but still it doesn't even show up. as an option in obs or zoom. what am I doing wrong? using cannon rebel sl3. thanks!
For Mac I don't know unfortunately.
Do you think that canon pixma printer drivers could also be the problem when it wont show video?
That one I don't know. I only use an HP printer myself.

Before I found this video, I followed some other youtube channel's advice and bought a ton of accessories on amazon - like video capture card and a HDMI to micro HDMI cable to plug my EOS M50 into the capture card. It is so frustrating because Canon even markets a "Content Creator" package with accessories like the mentioned HDMI cables BUT NO micro USB cable. So Canon itself made me confused on this one because they did not recommend the micro USB solution themselves anywhere.
I tried to make things work for an hour, but when nothing helped me, I started looking for a solution. Then I found your video and learned, that all I needed was a micro USB cable. (which I do not have at home because I switched to USB-C a long time ago)
So I got myself a micro USB to USB 3.0 cable and it works like a dream. Thank you for this video!

Having issues with a Nikon D5500, Ive got it running but theres a big black box around the entire image (oddly an earlier test I swear did not have this same box, the only thing thats changed since is my monitor). Ive had that lag issue but it seemed to not like the usb port it was in, once I changed it, it stopped. The LCD doesnt display anything. No preview. Not required but nice if I was looking away from my monitor preview. And once it was all fine (I had cropped the black box using OBS) but after about 10 minutes it just froze, seemed to still be powered it didnt boot to the nikon webcam utility screen, just a still image of me with stayed like that until unplugged an hour later. Is it just too old a DSLR to be used as an effective webcam. I would love some help cause obviously would save me either updating my camera or buying a specific webcam for streaming when all the little things Ive already picked up have amounted to so much.
I have no experience with Nikon cameras.

What if everything works (on the PC) but the camera is showing the normal screen as if I would take videos? :( even tho the camera is connected to the PC by cable
That's how it's supposed to look when it's working properly! At least on the M50.

Thank you! I have been searching for this information for ages! My problem was not that obvious. I had no idea that EOS Utility and EOS Webcam Utility are two different things! I have been using the former in the remote live view mode and capturing the window. The quality was significantly worse.
That's a good point. Canon could certainly do a lot better in the software naming department.

So I've installed EOS webcam Utility and I've restarted and done literally everything but for some reason it wont show the option of selecting the webcam utility in any of my software. pls help

Hi, my problem is that my Eos 700d with Mac works perfectly in ops when it is connected by battery, but it doesn't work when it is connected to the electricity with the adapter.
Interesting! is it an original Canon AC adapter kit? In my experience, generic/third-party adapters can cause weird effects. In my case, the touchscreen doesn't always work.

Tried all the steps, still had an issue of black screen with computer icon on M50. Discovered that when I went into properties for Video Capture Device inside OBS my 'Resolution/FPS Type' defaulted to Custom. Switched it to Device Default and it popped right on.
That's a great tip! On my machine too it sometimes gets stuck like that.
im stilll having troubles, i have a eos rebel t100, but my pc is still showing EOS webcam utility no connection though streamlabs, and im lost and cant figure it out.

I've never had that specific problem. I'm pretty sure I'm getting 25 FPS from my M50 with the EOS Webcam Utility.

Hi Markus. I've seen many videos saying there is a problem with the Eos Utility 3 and the EOS webcam software. After having tried closing it, my camera still didn't show upo in OBS. I also tried uninstalling EOS Utility 3 and it still does not work.
Do you have any other tips to why I'm getting the "EOS Webcam Utility" screen in OBS?
Is there maybe another software that can use the camera that I have to close? Is there a way to check for that?

It's hard to say. Which operating system and version of the webcam utility are you using? If it's Windows 10-N I know what to do!
@ I have regular Windows 10 and I'm using the Canon RP.
I've tried rebooting the computer, closing down all other programs, updating drivers, reinstalling OBS, reinstalling EOS Webcam utility, tried running it with and without EOS Utility 3, reinstalled Windows alltogether, changed cables, searched the task manager for other programs that similarly to EOS Utility 3 could be using the camera feed.
And I came up blank :(
My mom has the exact computer as mine and the camera works flawlessly (Both the RP and a M50 that I have).
I've tried comparing drivers between them, reinstalling OBS and EOS webcam utility on both computer. Nothing helps. Her computer is able to run the EOS Webcam utility in OBS and Skype. Mine is not able to do either of these.
I have however noticed, that when I turn on OBS on my mom's computer and I have not connected the camera, OBS will display the EOS Webcam Utility sign along with an icon of a cable and a red cross indicating, that the camera is not connected. However, if I turn on OBS on my own computer without having attached the camera it simply displays the "EOS Webcam Utility" sign with no icon at all.
This may be a clue to what is happening, but I don't know what I should try and change?

That's a weird problem! Unfortunately I don't have any ideas - you've clearly tried everything! But now that the software is in full release, maybe you could ask Canon directly?
I’m having the same issue on my Lenovo laptop. I’ve tried literally everything suggested and still not working. Works fine on my co workers laptop though.

Great tips and video. I was able to get my M50 to work after following those steps. My issue now is that I cannot get audio to come in from the camera to the software in streamlabs or OBS studios with or without my boom mic on the camera. Any thoughts? Tried setting the audio within the camera first on auto and manual and still get nothing.
Unfortunately there's only video over the USB connection. Plug your mic into your computer instead!
@ Ah well that is quite handy to know haha. I shall try that next. Thank you. Hopefully I wont be opening a new can of worms by trying out the HDMI cable once it arrives later.

The lens cap isn't the problem for me, it's off of my camera. I can see perfect on the LCD screen but on obs it's just a black screen. Is it cause I'm using cam link?

Ok well i no longer have the utility but am still unable to use the webcam any advice? I uninstalled obs as well as eos webcam utility. I reinstall each and am still unable to use as webcam

I have the first problem with computer screen icon on the M50 screen. It cannot be fixed by shutting down EOS Utility, because there is no such app on my Mac! I cannot figure out how to fix this..
On Mac I don't know how it works I'm afraid!

Hey! I am still have trouble with finding my camera as on option on the drop down menu on Skype, Zoom, etc. My camera is clearly connected to my laptop (mac) as it shows the computer icon and I get a live feed on the utility app. Any solutions to this?
Have you installed the EOS Webcam Utility and rebooted? Not EOS Utility.

Thanks for the video! I am having an issue with my Canon Rebel T6 connecting to my MacBook Pro (My OS is currently Monterey 12.2.1). I would like to use the Canon as a second camera when teaching guitar on Zoom. I tried downloading EOS Utility but every time I open Zoom it is still not recognizing my camera. Any suggestions as to why this is happening? Thanks in advance!
You don't need the EOS Utility. You need the EOS Webcam Utility.

Markus, one thing I heard and it's true is that there is a slight delay between voice and image when we use a different camera as a webcam. I would love to know if you have any tips about that. Thank you!
That has not been my experience so far. But that probably depends on the software you're using.

After following these steps, I’m getting a screen on OBS that says EOS Webcam Utility with a red X and a USB cable on it. I changed the cable 3 times but still getting this error screen. Any tips? Thank you

I had to like and subscribe because you did a superb job with the video presentation, but none if these are my issue. I'm using Mac (Big Sur OS) and the camera doesn't show up at all. It works perfectly with a Windows computer. Any suggestions?
I never tried it on a Mac I'm afraid!

With the EOS Webcam Utility, there is no audio. That's a limitation.

I instal the utility program and open obs it detect the camera but its not that i can use it. I see that you close the program but i cant find it to close and its stil not visible i mean my camera view

Thank you for the video, but NO MATTER what I try (And I have literally trouble shooted the crap out of this) it still doesn't work I only get that ridiculous splash screen telling me to plug in the usb. I have had to cancel multiple zoom interviews because of this crapy problem. I'm using a Macbook pro.
Any ideas??? I am so frustrated.
