This song has a great sound and energy and Lee's voice has a real smoky quality that was hot at the time. I've always loved how the song leaves open space for her in the chorus. The drum beat is so solid that when it drops for that moment in the chorus, it sounds like a heart skipping a beat in anticipation, which matches the lyric so well. Really well written and performed.
Feels bad that many of the artists from this era tell similar tales, of being messed around by the industry and treated as commodities, yet they fought thru it to make the music they wanted and gave us so many good times and good memories.

She’s a mysterious missed opportunity of beauty, brains and talent, for sure.
Breaking out in the US eludes so many artists. (Look at the Sloan, the Tragically Hip.) She might have done more and gone farther if she trusted her good instincts early on and been more independent. She was too good to ignore.
And she knows all this today but isn’t bitter… happy for the life she’s having anyway.
