Dustin Abbott Can not thanks you enough for making such effort to help us decide which one to get . i honestly am never regretted when i buy Lenses as i always see ur reviews first :) Thanks so much and Keep working , love all ur stuffs .
Looking at your samples, this lens renders images much better than the other Art lenses I’ve looked at. Most of the other Art lenses make images that look sterile. I look forward to your Tamron g2 review to help me decide.
I've noticed an interesting phenomena with this lens. If you try to take a shot at 24 to 35 mm with f/2.8 and focus on hyper-focal distance or just some distant object you simply cannot get an acceptably sharp image. I even sent the lens for service to Sigma without any visible improvements unfortunately.
Frankly these lenses always seem a little bit of a waste on APS-C (the focal length isn't nearly as appealing), but there aren't very good APS-C specific alternatives. A lot of people like the 18-35mm F1.8, but that's a much more limited focal range, too.
@@DustinAbbottTWI Thank you! I understand it does seem like a waste, but I really do like that it's kind of in between what I have already (10-20mm and 70-200mm) - figure I don't know what I am missing out on anyway, until I get myself an upgraded camera or try one out.
Thank you so much for your review. Your reviews are among the best I've seen. In the market for a 24-70 mm for my Canon 5D Mark IV. Anxiously awaiting your Tamron G2 review before I decide
Tamron updates it's lenses pretty fast, I wonder why. Nice review as always, bigger and heavier good zoom from Sigma. It's going on for a couple of years now that what we called third party lenses are a really good and cheaper option then the Canon lenses. Love to see the comparison between those three. I still own a very old TAMRON 24-70MM F/2.8 SP DI VC USD and am happy with it. :)
No fan of Sigma lenses however always find your professional reviews to be clear and concise without the repetitive BS of some reviewers. Thank you for all the good work.
+Raj Dash I've been finishing building a house this month and putting in 13 hours days doing that. You are fortunate you got this review at all; it came at huge personal sacrifice.
Hey Dustin, I have the EOSR. I do not have a 24-70 type lens. I can’t afford the RF24-70. I’m looking at this lens adapted or the RF 24-105. Which would you think would better? Have you compared? Both of these lens’ are within a 100 of each other. Wanted your input on it. I think I can over look the 2.8 if I don’t go that route. Which would be better image quality?
There's not a huge difference in image quality, and, since you aren't desperate for F2.8, I'd go with the RF lens. It has much better IS and is one of the better lenses of its type.
Dustin Abbott I appreciate your input! I like your detailed videos. Very personal type. Maybe down the line I’ll get a RF24-70. But, if I don’t desperately need that 2.8, then I’m not worried.

I can't say definitively, as I used the adapter/lens on Sony APS-C (a6500), not full frame. It seemed to handle the transition very well, though, with good autofocus and optical performance. To be honest I think that Sigma lenses focus more accurately on Sony mirrorless than anywhere else.

+Cactus Tweeter Yes - my youngest turned 10, and my wife made that ice cream cake. The Sigma is less sharp than the Canon (save at 50mm), but has nicer color and bokeh, in my opinion.
To some degree, yes, though I suspect that it will be more of a general appearance of slight softness across the 80D frame rather than concentrated in the corners.

Is there and special reason why that happened? Compare the last minute of our last video and this one and you will understand what I'm saying.
+Hugo Da Palma I don't really think that my own opinion changed, though in some ways I may have pushed more the fact that I actually do like the images from the lens despite many writing it off as not being sharp enough.
Dustin Abbott thank you for your kind answer. Like the majority I'll be waiting for the Tamron review and then I'll decide from the 3 wich one I'll buy. Take care!
question---the previous tamron 24-70mm f2.8 was produced in Sony "A" mount, the new G2 version is not........This lens had VC, however, the Sony model did not have VC because Sony has this feature in their camera bodies....I am being told that image stabilization effects the lens sharpness, without this feature on the lens it is sharper.....If this is true, then would i be correct in saying that this older version from Tamron would be sharper on my Sony or as sharp as the new Tamron G2 (G2 is not made in "A" mount) if it was mounted on my Sony full frame bodies? Note: i saw a comparison of all the previous 24-70's and the tamron at 24mm was by far the sharpest......Right now i use the older version 24-70 Sigma, the new art Sigma i woul which also is not produced in the "A" mount.....i can not find a review on the new Sony Vario-Sonnar T* 24-70mm f/2.8 ZA llSSM II Lens... thank you....
All of my comparison tests (you can find them in the G2) playlist are done (unless otherwise specified) with the VC off, mounted on a tripod, and the previous generation Tamron is NOT sharper. Now, you may get better results on a Sony body simply for not having to use the adapter with the newer lens.
If i was not using primes only for sure id add....man nice lens You said....."Events And travel " So true Crazy how "light vs heavy" when traveling to me i am now measuring lens choices in weight as well as utility
Dustin Abbott Had nice set of nikon old f2 pro glass primes Upgrading to "lesser" R Leica and more modern voigtlander its no wonder folks love the newer post 2000 CV glass Sharp well made but much much lighter the either two above One lens comparison both nice the nikon 28 f2 "hollywood" vs cv 28 f2 Both nice rendering sharp contrasty but that nikon weighs seemingly 4X more!! Just forget old Leicas if trying to save travel weight!!! Haha
It will be interesting to see how this compares to the Tamron G2, I received my ( Nikon ) copy three days ago. My initial impressions of the Tamron suggests you are going to be very impressed indeed but we'll see what you think comparing it to this Sigma. I've feeling already what the outcome will be 😃
I m getting this lens for a great price. But I owned the Sigma 18-35 1.8 and I hated the AF performance. How can you say it compares to that one. Great reviews as always.
Hi Dustin, thanks for the review however i am not in the market for a 24-70 (I am very happy with the Tamron) but still good to be up-to-date about the new glass. I stick with my fantastic lens (got even better when Tamron had to replace the AF and VC system (inwarranty) couple of years ago. I agree specially on Full Frame it is my most used lens. 24-70 f2.8 is the one i ALWAYS take with me.
I have the Sigma 70-200 f2.8 and really want to get this but I will wait until the Sigma vs Tamron battle result. Canon is nice but more $$$ and no stabilizer.
any plans to do a review on the new Tamron G2 version.. got mine coming next week (Nikon mount).. lol as i type this you say your going to do one.. so this post is moot..
Now, if only Tamron and Sigma, after these lenses, would release a serious and better updates for their 17-50 f/2.8 for crop sensor, I'd be the happiest in the world!
For what I do is not a viable option mainly for two reasons: very short zoom and absence of image stabilization. Something that a 17-50 would fit nicely. The 18-35 is more of a substitute for a bag of primes, than an actual useful zoom lens.
I just got my 5DIV a couple of weeks ago (body only) and decided I needed a good carry around lens, so ended up choosing Sigma's 24-105 f/4. I'm not sure you ever reviewed that one but how much of an upgrade would it be from that lens to the 24-70 f/2.8? I already consider it a much better lens than Canon's own 24-105 L.
love your reviews, but can you shoot the video in manual mode as when the highlights on your face move the background darkens and is quite distracting, also foreground is badly placed as the camera is behind it most the time,, one love thanks for the review ,, looks like a good lens,, peace
"He's a legend in his own mind." I believe he has moved beyond that thought, and now considers himself to be a divinity of the photographic world. But still, once you get around his lengthy and repetitive ramblings he does come up with some good stuff that really makes you think. I just wish he wouldn't be so darned caustic.
Here's how you can trust (or rather mistrust) a lens review on RUclips - If the reviewer includes merchant affiliate links ... then what you're watching is basically nothing but a goddamn commercial, and the reviewer is being paid to offer a great review, and perhaps even to simultaneously trash their competition. After all, people are not actually so stupid that they don't know of any merchants.
Clearly you are new to my channel. Those who are familiar with my process know that I have developed a reputation for a decade of giving as unbiased of reviews as I possibly can. I can understand the mistrust, but I never once tell anyone to buy this lens or any other product. I try to equip people to make informed decisions. And yes, if you choose to purchase, I’d be happy for you or anyone else to use my affiliate links, as that is one of the primary ways that I get compensated for my work…just like everyone else who does reviews.
@@DustinAbbottTWI - You made my point for me - specifically, that you're BIASED. How so? By including merchant links. People aren't so stupid that they have no clue where to find merchants. And you won't convince me that you aren't getting kickbacks from them. If you love doing reviews so much, then just do the reviews while omitting any mention of merchants. There's at least one such guy here who does exactly that, and his reviews are detailed in the extreme and include no reference to merchants. Yes, a guy who has owned more equipment than most people are aware exists. Hmm, and here I always thought that photographers get paid for doing actual photography, rather than for pushing merchandise in videos. Either that, or else some photographers just have a hell of a lot of free time on their hands for making videos. Might that be you?
Dear friends be aware when u buy sigma lenses! My personal experience, 2 years ago i bought a Sigma 70-200 2.8 but after 8 months it gave me a problem. there was a sound like falling something inside the lens.😢When ever I press the focusing button the falling sound with a shake will occur😐. But the good thing is it's is still working.😊 And 8 months ago i bought another sigma art 24-70 2.8. but now it's with some different problems. 1.When the lease connected to the camera if the camera goes standby mood it doest turn on the camera again due to lens error. 2. The lens generating a heat near the connector 3. When the zoom is at 70mm (full zoom) error message comes "lenses communication error" So think before buy a sigma lens! Always go for original one👍 My personal experience 😢 #sigmalens #sigma #sigmaforcanon #sigmasrilanka #photography #photographylovers #srilankanphotographers
While I am sorry to hear of your issues, I don't think your experience is representative of all Sigma lenses. You could find similar anecdotal evidence for Canon lenses, too.
No arguments here. The rendering was pretty nice for a zoom, but the sharpness and image stabilization were underwhelming. The FE version of the lens is better.
I have to say this review has disappointed me the lens is a pile of crap and I think sigma must be paying you. You clearly are being very diplomatic when it comes to the image quality at 24mm. I have waited a year for this lens and will not be buying it. As for price lower than the canon this is a joke £1400 is a rip off for a so called art lens. I can buy the canon 24-70 II for £1200 as a gray import off ebay. The tamron is available for pre-order at £1500 from amazon and I must say these 3rd party manufactures who are they kidding with these prices. Even a uk canon 24-70 II is £1600 I know which one I would buy the canon every time if I had the money. I decided on the canon 24-70 F4 is, is a better lens get a prime 24mm 2.8 if you need it and that combo is a better option.
mmmm i understand what you mean, i am in the market for Canon 5d4 in UK, i def need IS foe videos and same time sharpness dont mind if its 24-70 or 24-105 f4 or 2.8 or whatever i need IS lens in this range, i thought Tamron G2 as it has 2.8 and IS but i read many bad copies not sharp and focus issues :( so wondering what would be the best one! also you say this Sigma lens is crap have you tried? or you saying because of price? Thank you
I have not tried it but I have seen the images from it at 24mm and 70mm if this lens produces such poor results no need to even test it based on dustin review and others I have seen.

question---the previous tamron 24-70mm f2.8 was produced in Sony "A" mount, the new G2 version is not........This lens had VC, however, the Sony model did not have VC because Sony has this feature in their camera bodies....I am being told that image stabilization effects the lens sharpness, without this feature on the lens it is sharper.....If this is true, then would i be correct in saying that this older version from Tamron would be sharper on my Sony or as sharp as the new Tamron G2 (G2 is not made in "A" mount) if it was mounted on my Sony full frame bodies?
Dustin what would be a god used price ?
What country are you in? I get questions from basically every country in the world.
US
Please do the Sigma vs Tamron vs Canon showdown pleeeaaassseeee.
That's in the works. I have the G2 now, and will work at getting the Sigma and Canon in before month's end.
If i was not using primes only for sure id add....man nice lens
You said....."Events And travel "
So true
Crazy how "light vs heavy" when traveling to me i am now measuring lens choices in weight as well as utility
+Matthew White I understand. I do a lot of traveling with mirrorless now.
Dustin Abbott
Had nice set of nikon old f2 pro glass primes
Upgrading to "lesser" R Leica and more modern voigtlander its no wonder folks love the newer post 2000 CV glass
Sharp well made but much much lighter the either two above
One lens comparison both nice the nikon 28 f2 "hollywood" vs cv 28 f2
Both nice rendering sharp contrasty but that nikon weighs seemingly 4X more!!
I've feeling already what the outcome will be 😃
I just received the Canon mount today, but haven't even had a chance to open it yet
I m getting this lens for a great price. But I owned the Sigma 18-35 1.8 and I hated the AF performance. How can you say it compares to that one.
Great reviews as always.
I have major focus issues with the 18-35, but not with this lens.
It's a very, very useful focal length.
Thanks for review. Guess came in too early, no other option for video quality other than 1080p.
I'm getting 1440p and I apparently started watching 58 seconds after upload. Then my computer crashed, and now I see your comment :P
I am stuck at 1080p, tried refreshing page but no use. I am sitting in western ghats with iffy internet connection.
Definitely a 4K upload.
Chaitanya Shukla works now...
I have the Sigma 70-200 f2.8 and really want to get this but I will wait until the Sigma vs Tamron battle result.
Canon is nice but more $$$ and no stabilizer.
It will be coming before long
any plans to do a review on the new Tamron G2 version.. got mine coming next week (Nikon mount).. lol as i type this you say your going to do one.. so this post is moot..
It arrived today.
Have you tried this lens on Canon EOS R/ RP? If you did, how did it perform?
I don't think that I had those things at the same time, but I've not heard anything negative.
Now, if only Tamron and Sigma, after these lenses, would release a serious and better updates for their 17-50 f/2.8 for crop sensor, I'd be the happiest in the world!
18-35 1.8 ? sigma
For what I do is not a viable option mainly for two reasons: very short zoom and absence of image stabilization. Something that a 17-50 would fit nicely. The 18-35 is more of a substitute for a bag of primes, than an actual useful zoom lens.
I suspect that Tamron, at the least, is considering that. They've recently updated the 10-24mm, so an update to the 17-50 seems logical.
I think so as well. It's just a matter of time.
I didn't review the 24-105. If you're happy with the 24-105, though, stick with it!
love your reviews, but can you shoot the video in manual mode as when the highlights on your face move the background darkens and is quite distracting, also foreground is badly placed as the camera is behind it most the time,, one love thanks for the review ,, looks like a good lens,, peace
+Huw Penson That's actually the result of the camera not being in manual mode. It is adjusting for the changing light.
@@DustinAbbottTWI That's what he said.
You like recording yourself form the other side of the yard?
+Richard's World Traveller Umm, I guess so
Sigma fART as the angry photographer says
He's a legend in his own mind.
I know he's not a Sigma fan, but I do strive to be objective in my coverage and draw my own conclusions.
"He's a legend in his own mind."
I believe he has moved beyond that thought, and now considers himself to be a divinity of the photographic world. But still, once you get around his lengthy and repetitive ramblings he does come up with some good stuff that really makes you think. I just wish he wouldn't be so darned caustic.
Here's how you can trust (or rather mistrust) a lens review on RUclips -
If the reviewer includes merchant affiliate links ...
then what you're watching is basically nothing but a goddamn commercial, and the reviewer is being paid to offer a great review, and perhaps even to simultaneously trash their competition.
Bit Robocop there Dustin.
The sunglasses? It was pretty bright
You rocked 'em though.
I am sure Tamron A032 will be better
+YUEN SIU LUN I'm discovering whether or not that is true right now.
I really want to sell my Tamron 24-70 now to get the Sigma one. I hate how soft my Tamron is out at 70 at 2.8
I'm just starting my review of the Tamron 24-70 G2, and I'm interested to see how much improvement there is.
What’s with the plant in the foreground?! Horrible framing.
But the good thing is it's is still working.😊
And 8 months ago i bought another sigma art 24-70 2.8. but now it's with some different problems.
1.When the lease connected to the camera if the camera goes standby mood it doest turn on the camera again due to lens error.
2. The lens generating a heat near the connector
3. When the zoom is at 70mm (full zoom) error message comes "lenses communication error"
So think before buy a sigma lens!
Always go for original one👍
My personal experience 😢

While I am sorry to hear of your issues, I don't think your experience is representative of all Sigma lenses. You could find similar anecdotal evidence for Canon lenses, too.
Don't know why but I don't like Sigma's bokeh, not as creamy buttery smooth as Tamron and RF Canons.
Bokeh is always pretty subjective.
Too much weight to carry and work on
It's definitely a heavy lens.
That was one of the worst art lenses in my opinion. 50mm was the best.
No arguments here. The rendering was pretty nice for a zoom, but the sharpness and image stabilization were underwhelming. The FE version of the lens is better.
Boring
Thank you
I have not tried it but I have seen the images from it at 24mm and 70mm if this lens produces such poor results no need to even test it based on dustin review and others I have seen.
you havent tested it yet so why are you complaining? pretty stupid, try it before you judge the lense,
Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 G2 is better.
where can we find your detailed review?
own both...you're right
tamron 24/70G2 is better in every category bar looks
I'm about to find out. The G2 arrived today
+Dustin Abbott cant wait for your review.....
Garbage lens, i regret this purchase.
Care to elaborate?
