    I have owned 2 tamron 24-70 VC in the past so I have a little more pull toward the new Tamron VC. Tamron quality control for me has been impressive, picture quality has been impressive and price also so for me the Tamron is the best deal you can get period forget about the money. Don't know to much about the Sigma but It looks good as well. This is all good for DSLR owners so go Tamron and Sigma!

    If I get one, definitely going with the Tamron. Looks like a stellar lens.
    BTW, I so agree with you - I don't know why people aren't really looking into those Tamron primes!! I own the 45mm, it's one heck of a lens! Paired up with my 6D, it makes for a perfect all-day setup. Amazing build, weather sealed, IQ is fantastic, f/1.8 aperture gives you beautiful bokeh, and the VC is AMAZING!!! It's an awesome lens.

    • @kylehowdy

      James Larsen I agree. I have the 45mm and it's freaking awesome!

    • @Caracalaba
      @Caracalaba 5 лет назад +2

      There's a bokeh crazyness trend nowadays imho, some people hear 1.4 and it's all they want. So sigma is dominating there. They are great lenses but I much prefer the built quality, size, IQ VC and overall concept of the Tamrons.

  • @smaakjeks

    Heads up: The Tamron G2 is parfocal. That's a huge improvement over the G1 lens for video work. I wonder if the Sigma Art is parfocal or varifocal.

    I have four Sigma Art primes and they're incredible. In each case, I very carefully considered the Canon alternatives but opted for the Sigmas. I also wanted a nice 24-70 f/2.8 'walkaround' lens and discounted the Canon straight away simply because it's a lot more expensive and has no stabilisation. There aren't too many of these comparisons out yet, but from what I can tell, the Tamron does tend to come out on top. Mine arrived yesterday and I have to agree with the conclusions in this video - the image quality is fantastic. I've only used it once so far but, needless to say, it is absolutely pin sharp including very good corner sharpness. I'll be doing a full review of it on my channel once I've spent a little bit more time with it.

    It's nice to see Tamron and Sigma pushing each other to do good things.
    Just got back from a trip to BC, shooting primarily with a sigma 17-50, and 150-600 C. I bought both lenses and a used 7D mkii for around the same price of canon 24-70 F4.0L IS, and 70-200 F4.0L IS.
    Not saying I wouldn't love to have the L glass though.

    You always make top reviews and awesome quality in all footage. Top notch, also sound is a blast. Love that. Regarding the 24-70 which is crucial for all pros there are some things I may disagree about. Fact is that VC/VR best is tested on live footage and of course stills. Sigma can not even get close there. Nor Canon, Nikon. On D850 its hard to say but Tamron give Nikon a real fight. Being sharper on many widths starting from f 2,8. Nikon better on some. NO direct comparision but on Canon 5dsr and Canon newest 24-70 almost the same results. They tend to be sharper at different focal lengths. We need to do severe pixelpeep to see it. Real time world. What we called 3rd party is today game changer due to price. I use the Tamron. Its a blast.

    I was blessed with a good copy of the original G1 Tamron lens. The biggest down side was AF accuracy out of the box. AFMA allowed me to fix these issues, I know many photographers who couldn't. I hope that they have fix the AF issues with the G2 like the new 85 mm VC. I was surprised how accurate the 85mm was from Tamron. Let's hope it has the same accuracy.

      as a video shooter I would pick the sigma, simply because the focus ring goes in the same direction as most cinema lenses, while the tamron goes in the opposite

      The Tamron is parfocal, though. I'm not sure if the Sigma is.

    • @legendp2011
      @legendp2011 6 лет назад +1

      +Smaakjeks K........I owned the tamron 17-50mm (parfocal) and honestly didn't find needing the parfocal use that much. the sigma 17-50mm for example only changes slightly when zooming in and out (and is easy to refocus, although has bad breathing), and you can always just stop the lens down and compensate with iso (atleast you can on the a7sii with it's insane iso). learning the wrong focus direction can really stuff up your manual focusing later on. other than the focus ring I think the tamron is better, but for video work both manual focus and autofocus on the sigma is better

    When you have to pixel-peep your image to find defaults, you know that's an excellent lens lol. They're both outstanding. In my situation, I chose sigma because my local photography store doesn't sell any of Tamron's. In conclusion, your tests in low light is an excellent way to verify a lens performance. Very good review, sir!

    These both look like great lenses overall, I keep wondering about the Tokina 24-70 f/2.8. Granted, it's not stabilized or weather sealed, but by all indications it is much sharper at f/2.8 than either of these, especially out to the corners. Thoughts on that one?

    I tried 2 sigma 50mm f1.4 art lenses and both had inconsistent focus issues, ie. On tripod, focusing on the same object single shot drive, using a remote, I would get one shot that's front focusing one shots thats rear focusing and another one really sharp all in random orders. Of course it's more pronounced the wider the aperture. Did you experience af issue with the sigma zoom?

    The Tamron's IS is freaking amazing. 1/6 of a second at 70 mm 1/3 pin sharp 2/3 pretty okay. With good technique indoors that is. You'd probably want at least 1/15th to get more consistency outdoor in the real world though.

    Historically, Tamron's premium line of lenses has usually delivered a high quality image without regard to price, although some of those have been almost as costly as their Nikon equivalents. In a few cases, the Tamron has been the superior lens. (Thinking about the limited edition Tamron SP 400mm 4.0 v Nikon 400mm 3.5 here.)

    I have the original Tamron 24-70 and it's a brilliant lens for the money. Much cheaper than the G2 and very similar performance (apart from the quality of bokeh) which is not an issue for me). The build quality of the 1st gen lens is absolutely fine too.

      That happiness will end with Canon 5d Mark IV. Tamron 24-70 f2.8 (007 or G1) is good with 5D Mark III, but Mark IV can't correctly focus with Tamron 007 (G1) version. Maybe up to 55mm Zoom, then you'll have a problem with constabtly missing focus. This is known issue for that version. Tamron tap in console won't work with older version like G1, so no updates for this thing. Same goes for Older version of Tamron 70-200, f/2.8 (G1). Great lenses, but if you get them you stuck with them and no further, than 5d Mark III.

    I wish sigma or Tamron would make a 24-70 for Sony E. It's a market that is sorely lacking a competitor!

      Mikael Schatz I am pretty much done with adaptive lens and switching to all native lineup for my A7Rii. Adapter works good but still not great! It will be nice to see companies like Tamron and Sigma start making e mount lens!

    How does the G2 compare to the original Tamron 24-70mm?

  • @davidrich1020
    @davidrich1020 4 года назад

    At 9:25 in the video, we are shown a highrise in the distance with the cameras at 70mm @ F11, 1/8th, 2000 ISO. Looking at the two pictures, the one taken with the Sigma is clearer than the other one. If I'm looking at the two lenses for clarity, I would choose the Sigma over the Tamron based upon this picture.

      These ain't lab conditions. I would highly recommend not to choose any glas just by comparing a few or in this case ONE shot/s.

    For what's worth which ain't much, I have the Tamron on order from you guys.
    If people research these 2, they will find them so close that it is a difficult choice. It becomes a matter of where the +++ are something you need.
    What rarely gets mentioned in any of these reviews is that Tamron has the best (at the moment) customer service reputation out there. That to me given all things being almost equal, is the tipping point. Nobody seems to think that customer service is important, especially some manufacturers. I suppose in a culture where $3000 cameras and $2000 lenses are considered disposable that might be fair. Tamron found a niche and they are killing in it.
    Poor customer service has kept me away from stuff, and company's.

    Great video and the comment on the tamron´s primes made me remmember I want a tamron 85mm VC for my canon SL1. Have you considered sponsoring a colombian hobbyist?
    Greetings from Colombia.

    Corner sharpness will not matter when using this lens, or any full frame lens, on a crop sensor camera like a Nikon D500 where the sensor uses the center of the lens and leaves out the corner areas. You get a new equivalent focal range of 36-105mm (on a Nikon APS-c 1.5 crop) but you will be using the absolute sharpest area of the glass (the center) and therefor should be pretty sharp edge to edge. This is why I only use FX (full frame) lenses on my DX (crop sensor) cameras like my D500, better image quality edge to edge.

    In these videos Canada always looks so wholesome and Little House On The Pararie'ish,but also quite boring.Have no idea if it is or not.Think Chris and the team do a great job.But yeah compared to London,you can just tell people in Canada look educated.

      I visited Calgary a few weeks back (I live in Ann Arbor Michigan) and thought it was a lovely city. One that I could actually see myself living in one day. It really is as nice as this video made it seem. I though it also had plenty of stuff going on (I'm more outdoorsy than city though, so that's just me).

    Seems RUclips unsubbed me without asking. I re-subbed and I'm looking forward to seeing your videos in my sub-box again.
    Anyways I'm a bit partial to the Tamron. Saving on weight becomes worth it if you do it across a full backpack that you have to wear a whole day. Wooorth it! Especially when it holds its own against the competition.

    I think this Tamron surpasses the Nikon versions in sharpness, size and quality and price. I work with Nikon cameras but their overall goals are due to the competition debako I have been leaning towards the Tamron targets well priced and excellent quality. Nice video.
