I wouldn't buy a Tesla these days. The competition has caught up and surpassed it in terms of tech, driving refinement and feel. And an increasing number such as this have superior driving controls and instrumentation, not to mention looks. Tesla's range and acceleration is generally still slightly ahead of others in the relevant price bracket, but no longer to the extent that it would change my mind. Sorry, Tesla.
I tried one back in 2021 when I was looking at a family EV as a company car, along with an Enyaq and Q4. I remember it being huge inside, very smooth and easy to drive but had an odd shaped boot - very tapered and shallow. Ultimately I ordered a Q4 due to the deal at the time. Fast forward and I’ll be changing cars next year and this is now one of the cheapest large EV’s on my scheme. I still love the looks and the basic one in red comes in under the £40,000 luxury tax band, so it will definitely be on my shopping list again.
Maybe aught to look at the new 5 N-line trim model ( I’ve just bought one) as not as outrageous as the 5N but does 0-60 in just over 5 sec (AWD) and seems to have stiffer suspension than the ultimate I test drove at everything electric show. Definitely rides very flat with no lean. Is a bit crashy/solid as on 19” wheels 40 profile tyres. Think it is a better compromise, cheaper but sportier enough for the British roads and enjoying twisty sections and fast/responsive enough to still loose your licence. Also comes with digital rear view mirror so can load boot completely and still see what’s behind you.
OK I've not driven either this car or the Tesla but if it was my money I would go for this car. Why? Simples, I can press those things called buttons and move stalks to do things without taking my eye off the road to play with the telly.
Don't think this was N Level trim. That has sport seats and sportier bumpers. Looked like the premium to be. Not mentioning trim levels was an oversight on an otherwise excellent review. I have had an ultimate for just over a month and this review is pretty spot on. Could've mentioned the rear seats also move backwards and forwards as well as tilt the backs
Nice to see the buttons. The trend for putting everything on a screen may be about to reverse: in 2026, if you want a Euro NCAP five star safety rating, you'll need to have physical controls for basic functions.
The sliding centre console (in combination with the flat floor front and rear) is a massive plus for the Ioniq 5. Here's why: when you're going on your holidays and you need to provide your family with meals on the move, you can fit a coolbox on the floor in the rear for really accessible fresh food, just as we could in our old Citren Xsara and C4 Picassos, if the console is slid all the way forward. No other (5 seat) EV can do that. You have to put the coolbox on the back seat, making rear seat passengers decidedly cramped. Even better, if you slide the console all the way back, there's space for a coolbox to the right of the passenger's legs, so you can dish out for without having to twist right round to fish about in the coolbox. And no, it can't slide across and obstruct the driver's feet. You can do that in an Ariya with a sliding console as well, but it's less stable because there's a bump in the floor, and it's less well restrained from sliding to the driver's side. If you're driving non-stop from Scotland to the south of France, or even just to Cornwall, that makes a massive difference to the ease of the journey.
The 2024 top trim model also has a sliding front console. I didn't get it at first either, but it turns out to be really handy when you need to switch front seats, such as when you need to get out on the opposite side. Keep it forward most of the time, but slide back to switch seats.
No doubt : the ioniq 5 ! 3 years ago, I could choose between model Y and Ioniq5, and I drove them both. My verdict is without hesitation after 3 years. On Ioniq 5 side, the best of breed aspects are : charging, design, and OUSTANDING build quality to which the Model Y is incapable to compete. On Model Y side : the best electric efficiency on the planet, full self driving and outstanding software. But personaly, I am completely allergic to its design, only the model S is elegant. And model 3 just "OK"

Never been a fan of the IONIQ 5's exterior, but its interior is very nice and that's what I be looking at most of the time anyways, plus all the utility it has.
I test drove an IONIQ 5 and it's a lovely car, glad to see it's even better with this version. Too big (and too pricey) for me, but maybe that'll change by the time I buy my next car.
Does it clear the windows when you wind em down and up again? On our 22 Kona Electric - which we love - the water isn't wiped off! Just about my only gripe with it.
Nope. That's actually pretty common on a lot of cars now. I read somewhere that it's to prevent scratches on the glass, from dirt trapped in the rubber seal. So the seal only touches the glass when the window is fully up.
It would have been better if they tucked the rear wiper underneath the rear spoiler for a cleaner look. I suppose it is to make sure the people, who threw a tantrum about the car not having it before, see the wiper at first glance.
I guess it's because the spoiler has openings at the top. They actually had to increase the battery sizes because of the reduced range the wiper created because of it disrupting the air flow/increased drag coefficient.
I dont understand all the rear wiper fuzz. Drove approx. 800k km in cars and only one had a rear wiper. A Peugeot 306 diesel ym2000. What 's the point? You have been there, no? You don't have to look back. And when reversing there's a camera and sensors. Oh yes, dont forget your door review mirrors. They're also there for a purpose.
Ioniq 5 if you need space and want comfort and luxury feel. If not, take the EV3, which will be sportier and cheaper to run. Don't forget they are in a different class. The ioniq 5 has a 25cm longer wheel base.
I had a difficult time deciding between the Y and the 5. The 5 is much more unique around CA, where Tesla's are literally everywhere, and the addition of the heat pump, larger battery, battery preconditioning among a few other things has finally brought the 5 closer to Tesla in terms of important underpinnings. Where the Tesla really wins is in charging network, which is absolutely amazing, and a 10-year track record of making very durable batteries, inverters, motors, etc. The bigger winner here is the presenter; strikingly gorgeous!
Thoroughly enjoyed my 2-year lease with Ioniq 5 - my only major complaint was with the software - did they improve that? Looks like they changed the trim on the sides and rear with matt black plastic - should be less prone to scratches than the silver trim.
I like that Hyundai is listening to customers and adding things like the rear wiper and physical buttons for the heated seats in contrast to Tesla who say you can now finally have cooled seats but we are taking away the indicator stalks. The shape of the Y is not it's only downside, it lacks a lot of features like an instrument cluster and a head up display, but comes with the foul odor of Musk.
I love it. If it wasn't for the fact I already have a Kia EV6 and I'm planning to downsize when I get my next car (Kia EV3 or Skoda Elroq are on my shortlist so far), I would have considered it.
Absolute winner this car, especially now with rear wiper, faster charging and decent range. Of course, decent ev’s still have monumental price tags so… anyway still a great car. Definitely ok to look at, I’ve never seen a bar of soap quite like this.
Looks like a good car has become a great car now! All we need next is for Hyundai to offer 6 with a stretched, traditional estate back-end rather than that steep tailgate. I originally preferred EV6; in their respective mk2 guises, I think the 5 now actually looks better. Good work Hyundai.
The most interesting review comment came early in the piece and was that this car is bigger than a Landrover Discovery Sport. In our household we already have a Discovery Sport for towing a horse trailer, and I already find it too big for day to day driving, always assuming I am allowed to disconnect the trailer. So with no disrespect to Nikki this might possibly be an urban/suburban mums’ Chelsea tractor to bully your way through the school run rather than a car used by a single driver without passengers. What I do like, which Nikki pointed out, is that Hyundai are doing rapid and continuous improvement to the car. Not for me.
I think the 2023-24 MY were the best of the bunch, we have a 2024 Ultimate spec. The 23-24 came with a 77.4 kWh battery, up from the launch model's 73 kWh battery, which gave a reasonable increase in range. The interior and exterior styling stayed as per the launch model though, which the wife and I prefer. The pre 25 Ultimate also has more standard kit for the driver, but slightly less in the way of range, due to the larger battery of the 25 MY version. The useful 360° camera and side view camera which was standard on the previous Ultimate are now optional, as are quite a few other bits n pieces. Also sport mode doesn't actually give more actual power, just the throttle response is sharpened up. Even in eco mode, full power is available when planting the throttle. But the pedal is much more progressive than in sport mode. There are also 6 levels of regen on the I-5, just like the Kia EV6. There's auto mode, 0, 1, 2, 3, and I pedal. We just leave ours on auto mode, which is pretty clever at applying regen when needed. In all we love our Ioniq 5, especially as it'll do over the WLTP range if driven with restraint on favourable roads, in favourable weather.
My Bluelink doesn’t work on my car and the dealer / Bluelink are not sure how to fix it. My company said we will send it back but I didn’t want to wait for another car. They said they have Tesla Model Y’s available if I would prefer that. I used to have a Model 3 and I’ve told my work I would rather stick with the Ioniq without Bluelink.
For people living on dirt roads or experiencing winter driving conditions, the lack of a rear window wiper/washer is a non-starter. To pay so much and not be able to see out the rear window? This offering is unacceptable. A pity, it's a beautiful package.
In our experience, the lack of rear wiper is a minor inconvenience. 1/2 of our previous cars haven't had them, so we don't really miss it. The I-5 has a brilliant rear camera (360° view on our Ultimate), so it's not like a wiper is vital.
Looks like they've taken some things they have implemented on the new Kona into this. I assume it's the CCNC infotainment system and nice to hear Hyundai will be adding data from Google Maps so things will keep up to date including charging station info. So range as James May once said in Roman Catholic, but real world not WLTP, is 450km.
Ioniq 5 is a great car, but its hard to take the car review seriously when the presenters driving position is so low that the person has to actually rise up from the seat to see out from the windshield. 😄 Btw why is it so hard for so many people to understand its Ioniq not Ionic?
Had my Ioniq 5 for 2 years. Fantastic car. 3 annoying issues I've found though 1. rear wiper...fixed!2. Squeaking rear tailgate... fixed? Windows dont clear the water / frost when you put them down????
No, they haven't "ruined" it, but I am happy that I bought my 2024 model. The rear window wiper is nice, but you don't really need it with the digital rearview camera. I like my wheels better than these. The 84 kWh battery is an improvement, but it only adds 9 more miles of range to my top-of-the-line AWD. No big deal. While the buttons on the console are welcome, I have a pet peeve against front-to-back cupholders and much prefer my side-by-side ones. I do wish my frunk had that additional room. The only thing I would change in mine is to make i-Pedal constant. It's irritating to have to engage it every time I start the car. Tesla? Hell, I got rid of my Tesla to get my Ioniq 5, which is a much better EV.
@@thomasneely2700 "Sour grapes"…? Not at all. I must've missed how the 2025 model is a "massive" improvement. I have NO "buyer's remorse" with my 2024, but go ahead and snark at me all you want.
I agree, our 24MY Ultimate has more driver kit as standard, nicer wheels, better looking bumpers, and a cleaner looking boot lid. A rear wiper isn't needed, it has good sized door mirrors, and rear view camera if needed. The extra battery capacity of the 25MY adds a bit of extra range, but simply driving with restraint adds range. We can exceed the WLTP range in ours, providing it's driven sensibly. Hyundai did add a rear wiper, and seat heater buttons, the latter is an improvement, but removed the standard 360° and blind spot cameras from the Ultimate model, so for me it's a backwards step.
We have the Model Y and it is a great car in many ways - it just works, effortlessly, without niggles but with so much space, pace and tech. However, we would not buy from Elon again. Also, where the Y is lagging behind is exactly where the Ionic 5 shines: Design, ride, noise levels, lack of buttons. I also prefer the slightly less SUV-ish shape. Would definitely consider the 5 for our next car. We have a Honda e as a second car and they would in many ways match each other.
This was a top one on my list but back in 2020 the dealerships in Los Angeles were jacking up the prices with add-ons and extra fees over 15% sticker. Just ridiculous.
Its a great car and its on my shortlist. Was hoping the review might mention trim levels? N Line trim?
Don't think this was N Level trim. That has sport seats and sportier bumpers. Looked like the premium to be. Not mentioning trim levels was an oversight on an otherwise excellent review. I have had an ultimate for just over a month and this review is pretty spot on. Could've mentioned the rear seats also move backwards and forwards as well as tilt the backs
I drive and ioniq 6 and the 800v charging architecture is a true game changer. The refresh looks great!
I have the Namsan version and love it, much better than the Tesla I tested before I bought it ❤
How do you get on with the digital wing mirrors?
@ I love them, they do a lot of things the standard mirrors can’t do. They zoom in and out when you reverse and you can see through them at night.
Sound on this video seems very muffled.
Thought it was just me !
@@philipcooper3710 I found it fine. I'm on my computer, however, if you watched it on your mobile, it may be different.
I can’t hear it.
The overall levels are pretty low. Sounds like they forgot to turn on the compressor in post.
I know this is supposed to look radical and modern, but it still reminds me of the Austin Allegro.
I had one for 18 months great car I will certainly buy another, but you failed to point out the new buttons in the cabin for front seat heating etc.
Tesla is not top,of the efficiency game anymore.
@@cypvh74and who is it ? BYD ? Not at all.. Tesla is the only carmaker capable to achieve 16.5 kWh for 100km, = 265 Wh per mile. NOBODY is at this level. That's a fact.
@ only in their fever dream lies. My model 3 has never come anywhere close to getting its rated efficiency.
@@francisdebriey3609 My BYD Dolphin has averaged 14.8 over 6000kms of city and country driving. Highest was 15.3 on a fully loaded 110km average speed highway trip. With every feature of a Tesla (and extras), and $15k cheaper! Beautifully built, LFP battery, long warranty. RIP Tesla.
Tesla’s big problem- Elon Musks actions!
This, yes. And blinker stalks. And head up displays. And vision only...
Was not going to buy a Tesla before and even less now, after what he have been up to...
@@mikedee171 Oh, Did Elon hurt your feelings by making the world better?
@@Petroelhead Sure like dial up and phones with physical keyboards.
@@niklaswejedal463 You mean by fixing the corruption?
Finally you guys reviewed it.
Never been a fan of the IONIQ 5's exterior, but its interior is very nice and that's what I be looking at most of the time anyways, plus all the utility it has.
If using one peddle driving with no brake does the brake light come on when you come off the accelerator?
I test drove an IONIQ 5 and it's a lovely car, glad to see it's even better with this version. Too big (and too pricey) for me, but maybe that'll change by the time I buy my next car.
Does it clear the windows when you wind em down and up again? On our 22 Kona Electric - which we love - the water isn't wiped off! Just about my only gripe with it.
Try gently resting you arm against the window as it goes down, works on my 24 kona
I've got the last version and the rear wiper is a big deal to me.. I will never ever get another car with no rear wiper..
@@thedreamfactory6964 Oh, you're so right! I think next year's models will have no rear window, they're so superfluous. Dream on.
honestly same, i drive skoda fabia 2006, it has rear wiper, but im rarely use rear window. And for parking side mirrors are more than enough.
2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 PE.😍
💪🏼😎Wow!.👍🏻👌🏼
Hi, if you compare this Ioniq 5 PE with Kia EV3, which one would you pick? And why?
Ioniq 5 if you need space and want comfort and luxury feel. If not, take the EV3, which will be sportier and cheaper to run. Don't forget they are in a different class. The ioniq 5 has a 25cm longer wheel base.
Thanks David! 🙏🏼
Do the tail lights come on when you lift your foot off the accelerator pedal with full one pedal driving engaged?
Yes. Obviously any braking effect puts the brake lights on.
And now the Ioniq5 can use the Tesla network 🎉
@@mrtown It could before as well, you just needed to use an adapter from CCS2 to NACS. But CCS2 can charge much faster at 350kwh
Thoroughly enjoyed my 2-year lease with Ioniq 5 - my only major complaint was with the software - did they improve that? Looks like they changed the trim on the sides and rear with matt black plastic - should be less prone to scratches than the silver trim.
Yeah - not buying a Tesla!
Tesla Y might have some advantages, but none of them pay out for the bad drivers ergonomics.
Buying anything off Donnie Sh!tstain's new best mate is definitely off my list forever.
Double thumbs up.
When you have the regen on how does the vehicle behind know you are braking ??
Because the brake lights come on with regen.
@AlanTov thanks I was hoping they would buy now I have to take it off mine as it will look like I'm a nervous driver braking every second
I love it. If it wasn't for the fact I already have a Kia EV6 and I'm planning to downsize when I get my next car (Kia EV3 or Skoda Elroq are on my shortlist so far), I would have considered it.
Wouldn't rule out the Kona which since 2024 version is larger and competes with the cars you mentioned
Absolute winner this car, especially now with rear wiper, faster charging and decent range. Of course, decent ev’s still have monumental price tags so… anyway still a great car. Definitely ok to look at, I’ve never seen a bar of soap quite like this.
Probably the best alternative EV to supporting an oligarch.
I think the reveal at the start should have been the rearr, zooming in on the rear wiper which makes the car usable now.
Can you turn the speed limit beeping off with one or two button presses?
Yes. Long press the volume button on the steering wheel. Do the same with the steering wheel button to turn off the lane keep assist.
Thanks
The most interesting review comment came early in the piece and was that this car is bigger than a Landrover Discovery Sport. In our household we already have a Discovery Sport for towing a horse trailer, and I already find it too big for day to day driving, always assuming I am allowed to disconnect the trailer. So with no disrespect to Nikki this might possibly be an urban/suburban mums’ Chelsea tractor to bully your way through the school run rather than a car used by a single driver without passengers. What I do like, which Nikki pointed out, is that Hyundai are doing rapid and continuous improvement to the car. Not for me.
3:31 ive never understood if LEDs can change color, why not give like 10 quick presets and advanced option with full rgb pallet ...
My '23 has a color wheel that you choose from
What’s going on with the audio?
I used to have a Model 3 and I’ve told my work I would rather stick with the Ioniq without Bluelink.
vehicle to home?
For people living on dirt roads or experiencing winter driving conditions, the lack of a rear window wiper/washer is a non-starter. To pay so much and not be able to see out the rear window? This offering is unacceptable. A pity, it's a beautiful package.
In our experience, the lack of rear wiper is a minor inconvenience. 1/2 of our previous cars haven't had them, so we don't really miss it. The I-5 has a brilliant rear camera (360° view on our Ultimate), so it's not like a wiper is vital.
The MY 2025 does have the rear wiper. Rewatch the early part of the video. The 2024 does not have it.
Beautiful
Ioniq 5 is a great car, but its hard to take the car review seriously when the presenters driving position is so low that the person has to actually rise up from the seat to see out from the windshield. 😄
Btw why is it so hard for so many people to understand its Ioniq not Ionic?
I think this presenter Might be more suited to presenting Playschool.
Seems like sour grapes , the MY25 is a massive improvement in ever way over the old one
@@thomasneely2700 "Sour grapes"…? Not at all. I must've missed how the 2025 model is a "massive" improvement. I have NO "buyer's remorse" with my 2024, but go ahead and snark at me all you want.

@@thomasneely2700 👈 Troll.
Sadly, I don't think prices start at £33,900 pounds. Now THAT would be a great buy 😉
Love the watch! It’s high up on my list, and maybe with a pink/red silicone strap. Enjoy it and the car.
Cool car, that color though...
A rear wiper! Can I have one for my BMW i4 please.
I wonder if we could encourage the UK gov, to have a Hyundai ethos?
Better then before have rear wiper 🎉
This red isn't a very good color, nor are is the weird cladding. But overall still good. Just remember, Tesla always lies about range. So double check their provided numbers.
아이오닉5N, 정말 최고의 EV입니다.
I have a 73 plate, have they sorted the iccu problem with this model.
Not relevant on this model all updated
They sorted that on our 24 MY before it was delivered, so it's no longer an issue.

I can't see why you'd choose a KIA EV3 over the Ioniq 5 on a lease deal, when currently the 5 is coming out £100 a month cheaper.
Based on the look and only the Korean VW golf this is,you can't go wrong recognising it
Tesla owners: We want physical buttons…and a blinker stalk.
