DIY Pinstriping on the Rolls-Royce - What will it look like?

- PART 56 of this series, time to paint on the Pin Stripes!!!!!
My biggest challenge yet! Can I FIX a 1988 Rolls Royce Silver Spirit with too many faults to list, there is more wrong with it than right. Will I end up crying into my Connolly leather seats or will this beast live on.
This is the cheapest Rolls Royce in the UK so I wasn't expecting much, hopefully bit by bit with sheer determination and zero skill I will attempt to fix each fault one by one.
This is PART 56 of this series. Every part will be filmed, and I hope to discover the craftmanship that has gone into this 34 year old moving piece of art.

Remember that this is just for entertainment and I am not an expert in these repairs. The processes in the video may not be the best way, the correct way or the safest way to fix these things. I do love fault finding and trying to fix broken things, so I hope that comes across in this 'Trying to FIX' series. Many thanks, Vince. - Хобби
Vince painting in the rain always stresses me out lol
Vince using his hands to keep wiping the tape stressed me out. Paint and grease of skin doesn't normally work well
Me too😂
Definitly the right thing - paint always looks better than stick-on pin stripes. You'll be grinning from ear to ear when you're out on a jaunt and look back at the roller and say ' I painted that ' - Happy painting Vince ... thats what I usually tell my art channel viewers !
Looking forward to the results of the MOT! Go get it done!
I realised I was holding my breath as you put the tape on!
My favorite series on RUclips. Love how it turns out. This car had so much work done on, so many hours of careful fixing, it’s just as admirable as the handwork that went to manufacture it. I must say, I’m little bit shocked how well a rattle can sprayed car can look. And these pin stripes - well deserved own episode.
Is there no end to this man's talent? First class.
First class? Are you joking? The painting and detail work being done outside in the rain with poor or no prep is awful! All the time and effort on painting should be done on the mechanical aspects of the car: driving, stopping, handling. Better to let the outside look rough and make it a good driver. I can't bare to watch these last couple videos as he's truly living up to the DPO moniker from any car forum (DPO means Dumb Previous Owner).
@@mitchd949 Get a grip Mitch. You don't have to watch if you don't want to. Vince makes it very clear to everyone that he's a DIYer and that he lacks experience here. 99% of his viewers are the same. I wouldn't have risked pin striping the car in the rain to be fair but it has been overcast for weeks (at least where I live anyway). At some point, you have to just get on with it and take your chances.
@@CallumRepairs DIY doesn't imply bodge work. Don't make excuses for poor quality work - learn what is required to get good results and execute accordingly within your budget. I watch MMV because I like how he troubleshoots (especially electronic faults) and works his way through things. I comment positively when appropriate. Calling sub par work "first class" comes across like a parent trying to say fake glowing and positive comments to a young child who is obviously doing less than quality work.
I don't think you should EVER get the car professionelle painted ....it looks good as is and you did it all ❤
Wouldn't be the ratmobile if it was perfect.
Don't you have a spelling checker? 'Professional'
@@anthonyvincent5892 brave comment considering your grammar.

It is what it is. He has the car he wants. I'm sure many will be making offers when its finished because its not just unique but has been restored by someone who cares about doing all of it correctly.
As the Artist you see all the imperfections you perceive. As the viewer, it looks friggin' awesome m8. :D
It looks wonderful Vince , please don't think about changing your introduction music as it makes me smile and tap my feet every time i hear it 😁
Your skill and persistence is very inspiring. Keep up the great work
I'm going to be sad to see this series end. You've put so much into this car and the transformation is really fantastic.
Hiya Vince well done on the Rolls Royce it looks fab and yes the radiator grill is made from stainless steel keep up the good work
Shall think of your patience every time I try and unpick the start of the Sellotape.
Great Series from a great videographer. Thank you.
25 minutes in look at the reflection on the door nice job Vince 👌🏻
being honest i was initially in the crowd of noooo don't paint it by yourself but i was wrong, great job
The trim on a rolls is indeed stainless steel
Vince, your perseverance is inspiring, and I really do mean that. I love how you just have a go. I really felt for you when the paint came away, but in true Vince fashion, you just took it in your stride. Well done
When you were putting and taking off the tape I thought it was going to look terrible. Wow, was I wrong It came out near perfect. The striping brings such an elegance to the body of the car.
That’s a fantastic job you did! Thanks for entertaining us who wanted to see it done by hand. Next pin striping job: all the laptops in your home. Maybe a Switch or two.
My favourite episode so far. Not because it looks good, but because of the way it made you feel. Nice to close this one on a massive high. Excellent work Vince..
Now then looking excellent well done soon beautiful on the road 😊
My mate Tim, who used to work for a paint company, says you should always stir paint with a flat stirrer, like a ruler, and move it both up and down as well as round and round. This is because the hardening components of the paint may sink to the bottom of the can.
WOW Great job. You should be very proud of yourself.
It will be nice to see you take the car to a park and take some nice film of it 😎
19:22 the idea of that brush is to load it with paint and hold the handle slightly higher then the bristles so the paint runs down. This is how you get straighter lines and a better finish plus a lot faster
Well, that's not really true. A Pinstriping brush has longer bristles to hold more paint than an average brush so you can draw incredibly long lines without interrupting and even do one side of a car with just one long stroke. The paint is NOT supposed to run down because then you would never be able to draw a horizontal line. The surface you are working on draws the paint out of the bristles. That's why you get different results depending on the surface (glass, paint, clearcoat, etc.) The line is only straight because of a steady hand. If you have a style line like here you hold the brush between thumb and forefinger and the rest of the hand runs along the style line. By doing so you automatically follow the style line and keep the same distance
@@ChiefDestructor more or less what I said then? I say about holding the brush slightly at an upwards angle otherwise it will start heading towards the handle. The straighter line comes from a good flow of paint and drawing it out in a single stroke not doing bits at a time.
It's looking very nice there Vince, will be grea too see it on the road !
Very happy to see it finally coming all together Vince. Great work with all you've done so far knowing the struggles you've met along the way. Waiting to see the RR hitting the road and maybe... just maybe another car project in future XD.
What an amazing job Vince well done
Ever saw the picture of the guy, wound up in decal pin stripe? That would have been me! Decals and me were never friends and never will be. In the end it always looks ugly and crappy. I am not a car guy and still watched all your rolls-royce videos. I especially love that you are honest and show all your fails as well. This makes your videos even more useful, as you/one also learn/s from mistakes. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to see the first legal road trip :D
the best thing on t' telly - by far
The Rat is looking great Vince. I’ve asked Paddy Power to give me odds on it passing the MOT first time I’m that confident in your work.
Really wonderful job! Those came out amazing.
By the way, be careful with those tyres, Vince!
Watching your videos Vince shows that you'll try anything but this one just reminds me of how talented the guys who coach paint vehicles are, especially for stripes like these
Im very happy for you! I didnt think that was going to go well when the video started.
WOW very nice job
Good job Sir Vincent !! Well impressed !
Big thumbs. I am trying to remember the car when you 1st got it when it was 1 step from the breakers yard.
Another great video Vince (when you were looking at the fault, I was in your head, had you not prepared us for that moment, I was still in your head thinking the same 🙂 and that for me is good video-making) The blooming car looks fantastic! I am guessing you are overthinking some things, but that also makes it interesting for, me, This is My Mate Vince and this is why we all watch and learn stuff at the same time 🙂 - Job Well Done Sir.
Well done Vince!!👏👏
Looksvery good I think sometimes we are our hardest critics !
I will say, in most professions, as long as you have an eye for detail it will end up looking like perfect. Well done Vince
FWIW, this is one of the only series I am still following and enjoying; thanks for making them 🙂
Always nice to see a Vince project workout, nice sharp lines buddy! Great work !
Nice job - it will look perfect in the dark.😉👍
Great job painting those stripes!!! Definitely better than transfer type things! So very near the end now =D
Very brave hand painting Vince 🤓
👍👌👏 Kudos! I'm even more blown away than extremely impressed! You definitely did a fantastic job, Sir. This big grey beast actually looks a bit more elegant and kind of stretched with the pinstripes. At least in my opinion respectively for my personal kind of taste. I hope and almost pray that the white paint will adhere well to the clear coat.
I'm eagerly looking forward to watch you driving and enjoying your Rolls Royce.
Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards luck and health in particular.
for cheapest Rolls Royce to most awesome Rolls Royce.
I love the thumbnail for the video of the rat panting the rr and pinstriping it . The car is looking good
Vince, you did an awesome job mate...
You have come so far with this car love it .never wanted a rolls royce so much in all my life its looking really beautiful well done sir. Ho and the grills and trim are Stainless steel . Chrome over steel on the bumpers for strength can't wait to see you drive it . cheers
Car looks great, you’ve inspired me to repaint my car myself ❤
That really did turn out very very nicely ! Damn good effort, Vince!!
Amazing effort Vince. You have every right to feel proud.
Amazed how good it looks considering the conditions you were working in. It's been great following your journey with this. Looking forward to seeing it out on the road. Maybe you could do a bit of a tour and stop at some destinations for viewers to come and see the car 🙏
Persistence pays off!! Looking good!
Well done on that striping. I think the car painters do use a guide tape. I remember watching a sign writer painting the name on an ambulance, he had lithotape (red photography tape) and a stick with a ball for leaning on and just some whippy brushes. He did a lot of marking up first with tape to get height and width correct before he started. Still wonderful to watch though.
Wow! Just wow! This looks so good! What a great job! I love it!
Do not respray your work is a work of art.
Wonderful job Vince, excellent series what next? thank you very much

" The previous owner was an older gentleman in love with this auto. He insisted on a Full English restoration. Nothing was left off the plate when it came to this beauty. The power of a beast but the comfort of your favourite chair in the study at home.
Every surface has had the hands of an English craftsman across it. Even the pinstriping was done by hand....why, he even received advice worldwide and documented the completed work so that he could look back at his pride and joy in his old age."

Lovely job, Vince. I did a stripe on my first car (an escort van) with yellow electrical tape over a mid blue spray job I did myself. I was only 17 at the time.
My first car was an Escort van too. It had a new engine at one point before developing a starting fault (very slow cranking) and so it got scrapped sadly.
My mom had two Escorts, and I owned one. I can't imagine how slow an Escort van would have been. 1989 and 1990 were the awful ones. 1991 was a relatively better model year. No van option in the US!
Great job Vince!
That looks fantastic!!!
great job dude. You have that car looking awesome.
love the vids
later
patience of a saint.
Well Vince, you ended up giving " pin striping " a whole new meaning! Well done mate!
Amazing job. I have a Spur II; you give amateur mechanics hope 😊
I cannot stop laughing, the pin stripping is soo frustrating! This is not easy to do!! Vince your amazing! 😂🙏🏽🤞🏾
That looks incredible, Vince! I had my head in my hands 10 minutes in, but you pulled it off in the end. Great job mate! 👏
A) I can’t believe how good that looks and; secondly, I was holding my breath while you were doing the job. I feel a bit faint now. I don’t think you need to get the car professionally painted. It looks lovely as it is!
My favourite phrase when ever I get into these situations which is normally every day. I snatched success front the Jaws of defeat. I work with large complex engineering systems and this week I have had a bonza week where everything has worked, unlike some weeks where everything you touch needs fixing. Great job Vince, must give you a great buzz to continue. All the best
Well done, don’t know how you did it without a heated work-Shop
Must be over 30 years since I was in the trade 😊
Nice work, Vince!
The Rat Mobile is really starting to come along nicely. Pin stripes alone make the car's price go up by hundreds at least.
and gives it extra horsepower also
You had me confused for quite some time there. I thought you were doing a straight out decal pinstripe not a stencil, so I was like why are there three stripes. Even more confusing with too many Bourbon & Cokes on board, Saturday night. 😵💫 I always think of Von Dutch the most famous commercial American when it comes to pinstriping. The freehand pin stripers back around the 60's where just incredible, a true artform. 🌟 Looks schmick! 👍
👍be very proud of yourself Vince,. I love this Rolls Royce series's and all the hard work you have done,. This pinstriping put a real smile on my face for finishing touches,.(was a bit worried about pulling tape from wet paint), Maybe instead of buying you a coffee us subscriber's could donate for you to drive around the city of London and donate enough money to pay ulez and congestion charges?,..plus petrol with a video of course,..Take care Vince👍
I really enjoyed this episode, not specifically for the activity being shown but the fact you were evidently so happy with the outcome of your hard work, I have followed this Rolls Royce strand since the first episode, and I have detected a slight sense of growing frustration and potential for throwing in the towel, more recently; This episode it's like a huge corner has been turned. Been a great series of videos, many thanks.
Beautiful finish with those stripes 👍 Indeed 80's cars do have slight curves, even everyone says they are boxy and with straight lines. As a kid in the 80's, used to draw cars by hand and noticed those slight curves when studying images about them from car magazines and brochures.
Well maybe Ford Sierra was considered to be round shaped car, especially when compared to it's predecessor Taunus/Cortina, or Opel Kadett E / Vauxhall Astra 1984 - 1991.
You see Vince you can do anything in perspective, and as an artist well Ding Dong mate
It’s looking good to me. Great vid as always 👍🏻
Nice job! Looks great with the pin stripe! Make sure you apply clear coat over the pin stripe so it won't wear through when polishing! Love the content on the roller. I think you should take the time and redye all the leather components so they all match
Watching you let me admire pro pinstripers doing the same work free hand.
Looking good, I'd love to see you at a classic car rally
Great job! If only they did it this way at the factory, we could have all afforded a Roller…….😜
Well done looks great
A hair drier would have been a good idea mate.
Well done!
Wow! I had the same apprehension as you did it. That was an amazing roller-coaster ride, watching the progress. You are a very skilled and experienced "beginner".
Spot on Vince it looks really good, you did really well with the stripes I’m impressed 😊
I can see that Roller looking like a pin striped Saville Row suit shortly. :)
Realy nice Job man!!!👍🏼👍🏼
Nice job👍
I was stressed lol But I love how it came out. Great work vince!
Nice work mate 😃
Waiting for the MoT
Ik self have a corvette c4 1986 5.7L. I know the work 🤣🤣🤣 Love your work🤘🏼
Looking great vince
Been there done that 🙏 had the exact same trouble . Secret is let the paint underneath cure for a long time, even through a summer, then apply the pin stripe 💁
The devastation of that paint peeling off on the tape 😭😭😭 it all came good in the end though, great job Vince! Im going to miss the Roller episodes once its all done, its like riding a rollercoaster of ups and downs, i love it! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
