Great video. One thing you could do is to use the S-Pen as a remote camera trigger, so you don't need to touch the phone before taking the photo. Guess that it would prevent some shaking from touching the screen to begin with :)
Sadly, S-Pen remote trigger works only in the default Camera app.
@@raresiurean2715 Yeah, saw that now. But luckily one can use voice command if it's activated and say: smile, Cheese, Capture or Shoot. Tested that now and works great :)
@@anolbe That's an awesome workaround! Thanks for sharing!
They also sell remote Bluetooth triggers that I use that works in any app!
@@CallMeRabbitzUSVI That's always great. I think i got one many years ago when i got my S7 Edge. It was even a life saver back then while testing my phone and compared it to my system cameras :)
I had no idea my phone was even capable of doing anything like this. What a great video!
What phone did you use?
BestNeed for sppef
It's because you bought it for fashion, the fashion to have the newest and most expensive things.
I guess you need to say artificial
It means the world to me and so many others that you took the time to make this video! Love the way you broke things down and talked about how the different settings really change things up. Can't thank you enough for doing what you do and I'll be keeping an eye out for more of your knowledge sharing goodness
You bet man, I'm glad it helped, and thanks for watching!
@@BrentHall it really did! I’m a total novice so even something as simple as not having the iso up so high really changes things up. And I had just gotten so excited too about expert raw having such a high iso setting
Can't wait! Just ordered the phone today! SO excited to try night photography. Hoping to try time lapse, long exposure, and all the cool stuff! Thanks for the video and inspiration!
Hey guys, my main IG account got compromised and disabled, so if you wanna show some love and check out my new main account @hall.of.the.wild, that would be awesome. Thanks for all the support here on YT and over on Instagram, it really means a lot.
Ok
Commenting so this app knows you're offering good content. Which you are. Absolutely loved this. Your calm voice, helpful camera lady, great photos and quality information have made my day. I'm going to go out tonight to take some shots as well.
wow, thank you, I really appreciate that!
Great video. Been looking for videos on how to make the most of The S22 Ultra. I've taken moon shots, but Had no idea the phone could get pictures of the milky way! Giving your page a subscribe, I'm sold lol.
Thanks man, I appreciate that!
The manual focus is very simple. when ever you do astrophotograph you have to focus on a distant object, a faraway light post or a star, Denab was my favorite. On the S21 which is the same camera as the s22 the infinite focus seems to be three ticks down from the end.
Good video Brent! I have also saw these sort of artifacts with the Pro Raw... Hopefully Samsung can do something about it, considering that the phone was released about a month and a half ago
Brent, thanks a lot for your content, and specially for this video, wich i was waiting for as a S22U owner. I have a travel to our beatiful Andes here in Argentina and well, lacking of a cam kit since a few years, the phone and this video are what i need to try to get some decent pictures.
Thanks again.
And a tripod of course :D
Sure thing man, I'm glad my videos are helping!
You mentioned lack of data in the milkyway specifically... if you took the photo horizontally and only angled to keep the least amount of terrain in the shot, wouldn't you have like 3x the amount of data for the sensor to pick up more milky way details? I'd be interested in that for comparison. GREAT video, and I'm amazed this is even possible!
?????????????????
That's the video I've been waiting for.
Another great one!
I do alot of milky way and star trail photos with my Samsung and found that the best focus for stars is at 0.8 on the slider.
So you mean you would do manual mode at 0.8 as preference? Which one you like more for iso 800 or 640?
@@tanishadouglas7366 yes 0.8 in manual mode. As far as ISO goes it varies. If I am in a very dark place with little to no light pollution I will shoot at 1600. For a full moon star trail photo I might shoot at 160.
Samsung S22 Ultra best 👌 👍 😍
Nice video. Will you make another video after the new update that just came? with the astro shot thing on the raw app where it will take a picture for up to 10 minutes?
Wow... that video goes live in like 14 minutes...😅
My phone can take pictures like that? Beautiful! I do not know anything about camera's, i have always wanted to get into photography, no time like the present. 😊
Thank you for your video!
Just placed 3 orders for the phone mounts and content creator setup...just canceled 4 Amazon orders...so glad I found your video...
Looks good.. Good Job Brent. Pretty amazing what phone with tiny sensor can do now days.
Many thanks!
I've taken some crazy shots like this with my 22 ultra it's crazy
Great video!! The magnetic sleeve does not interfere with the use of the Spen. I have read that the S22U does not get along with the magnets because of the Spen
peak design says that you cant use Spen when you use their case
Was really waiting for this video..thanks :)
Fantastic. I really like the natural way of your videos...Thank you!
Thanks man, I really appreciate that!
Yes manual focus is bad since you set it to maximum, theoretically star focus is on 94-98% focus
Nice Fifth Element reference!
Well I installed the 16 raw on my s21. Have used it that much but as you mention the sensor size an processing make the difference.
But the now upgraded camera in the s2x ultra camera has the same controls.
So awesome that this phone is capable of this. I just finally got mine. I may try a milky way tonight.
Oh nice! Yeah, definitely get out there and give it a go if you have clear skies.
What microphone are you using. I like the consistency of volume when you were outside and back in your studio. You're also speaking at a comfortable volume and not trying to be loud for the microphone.
Thanks man, I'm glad it's sounding good! I use this one: partner.shopmoment.com/qnqbvg
I did not come here for fifth element references, but I was pleasantly surprised
Great video man, trying this out for myself. But you forgot to compare the two types of raw files side by side to see the direct differences. I would have loved to have seen a high res comparison side by side rather than just clicking from one to the other
This is the video I have been waiting for. I can't wait to try this out.
Why is the file size of the 16 bit image smaller than the 12 bit image from the standard app?
also want to know
Thank you,!!😍
I was expecting this video , I have watched your other both videos with s20 ultra and s21 ultra..
I just got a Samyang 24mm 1.8 for my Sony so I can finally delve into some astrophotography out here in Arizona. Can't wait to get a shot of the Milky-way after watching so many videos about it. Lot's of dark places out here in the desert. I was just in silver city Saturday delivering to the Walmart.
Oh nice, that's a great lens for dark skies! Arizona definitely has some awesome milky way and night sky opportunities.
Great video !!! Where was this shot?
I just love how calm this dude is. Sorry just had to say that, bye
Many thanks! I do a lot of yoga and meditation... :P
Ayee I've been waiting for this video to come out !!!
Thanks you, was very useful to create my own shots
You bet man, I'm glad it helped!
This guy seem like hes super nice and chill
Hey thanks man, I definitely try to be both of things! 🙂
@@BrentHall ofcourse!!!
Also i have an s22ultra and i been wanting to try the style images you got from the night sky it looks amazing. I never knew i could do that with my phone. Thanks!!!
i love milky way shots and i try to my phone my mobile brand is realme
i use gcam with raw
and its good capture and thanks for this video i know that raw is better than the pro mode of mobile phone camera
Should you shoot photos holding the phone portrait or landing scape & do you always take your pics in 4:3 aspect ratio & crop later .
Can you please link the original files. It would be great to check the files to see the details. RUclips compression is not doing justice to a 12 mp image.
I have been waiting for this
I am amazed you touch the screen and not use the voice smile function
I have been looking to see if the s22 can do the star trail time-lapse? Or like those highway light streaks?
Might you have a link?
It can do it, just takes a bit of work. I made a video like 3-4 years ago about how to do it on a phone. Different phone, but the method and apps are the same. There might be a better/newer app or way to do it all in phone now, but none that I know of still.

@@BrentHall thank you thank you
@@BrentHall I found that you can do it with HYPERLAPSE.. You set the speed to 300 and a "star trail" icon shows up on the screen.
I just learned this last night and havent tried it yet but thought you might want to know.
Have a good one.
I live in the west coast of Saudi Arabia, and I really want the perfect time of the year to capture the milky-way. I know many places where there's no light pollution but the issue is I don't know which season or which month is better than the other. Any help on that will be appreciated. Thanks
Subscribed! You are brilliant, I learnt a lot. May I know whether Samsung z fold 4 can do this? I know s22 ultra has better camera..
Hey thanks Winnie, I really appreciate that! IF your phone has the pro mode and the manual controls then it can definitely do it too.
Brent I just watched your video photographing the Milky Way with the Samsung Galaxy s22 ultra I have one question right at the beginning you talked about getting a file from Samsung video or Samsung to make the phone take better night time photographs It was 16 something versus 14 I couldn't quite understand it but I looked at your description and I don't see it can you give me the name of that download thank you Great video I like it I will watch your channel for more nighttime photographs
I was talking about the Expert RAW App, which at the time was only available to download through the Samsung app store. I don't know if that's still true or not. You don't need it though, unless you just want the extra astro mode they have in it. The reset is the same as pro mode and there's not much noticeable difference in the images from either.
Telephoto lens for Astrophotography is what I want to see. 😄
Yeah me too. Wondering if the phone camera alone can take the milky way
Really like your videos..
Top of signal peak?
No, this is up on 15 way past signal peak. Past the turn off for Lake Roberts.
Yeah the focus is not like flower and mountain anymore. is hard to do now cause 1.0 is not infinity, always out of focus
How do I download that raw photo app do I even need it to take photos like shown in video?
You don't need the ExpertRaw app, you can just use the regular camera app. Just go into pro mode and don't forget to turn on the save RAW option if you want to edit with raw images.
Great video!! However you should not use Expert RAW for night photography in my opinion... it has much more noise and weaker dynamic range compared to the standard app.
Interesting. I'll have to look into that some more.
ExpertRAW is multi-frame RAW so it's HDR is enhanced
I’m certainly not an expert as I’m only a beginner with photography but I thought raw is supposed to look awful as it’s an unprocessed image.
So helpful. Thank you!
You're welcome, I'm glad it helped!
Great video. One thing I'm curious about is taking dark/flat/bias frames with the phone. For the dark/bias frames what do you use to cover the lens? Same for the flats, is there anything in particular that's best to use?
I've never actually taken any of those with a phone, and even with my big cameras I usually just do flats.
@@BrentHall awesome, thank you
Np, sorry I wasn't much help on that one 😅
@Brent Hall no, you were a big help. If your images turn out good, they must not be necessary so I can stop worrying about them 👍
What software are you using for editing?
Great information 👍🏻, I have question, what is direction of galaxy. Center of galaxy. So can focus on that direction, or some app , can give information about it..?
There's a lot of apps out there for that. I like Sun Surveyor and Photo Pills the best.
Ciao, mi ricordo di te, insegnavi matematica all'ENAIP, in Lombardia BRO! Cazzo, quanto sei cresciuto

Many thanks!
Hi Can you make a video about difference between focus enhancer and detail enhancer on s22 ultra? there is not such video on youtube. what is difference?
0:02 how you shoot that moving stars
I really hope you see this comment, really really.
i know you have the S20U, S21U (your daughter if im not mistaken) and the S22U. i moved from the S20U to the S22U but unfortunately my collection of moment lenses wont work anymore because moment didnt make a case for the S22U SO MY QUESTION IS:
Have you tried "fitting" the S22U in the S21U moment case to see if luckily the lenses work?
Thanks man, love your videos! And yes, i did watch until the end!
I don't have a daughter, just a son (and he has the Pixel 6 Pro). The S22 definitely doesn't fit in the S21 case though. Also, I haven't tried the moment universal adapter on the S22, but that would be the only way to use moment lenses with it I think.
@@BrentHall Apologies, i remember having watched one of your videos when you were with a girl kid....i tried the lens adapter but because of the shape of the camera cutouts its hard to keep it in place
Hello, can you please tell me if taking moon's photo would damage my camera sensor or not 🙁🙁
How did u made the video of the sky going on? please tell me
Hello, please what tripod and phone holder are you using? Looking for one right now
I'm pretty sure I mentioned that in the video? Maybe I didn't though, I can't remember. Either way, it's the Peak Design case and creator mount. I should have the links to everything I use in the video description. Except the tripod, that might have been my Colorado Tripod Company Centennial Tripod, which is a higher end one that I usually use for my mirrorless cameras.
How did you do the photo animation at the beginning? It looks like it was done with the phone due to the heavy noise. But how did you take them fast enough where those planes are so smoothly moving across the sky? I really want to do this with my s22U!!! 😍 Did you just do shorter exposure times with higher iso or something?
That was a timelapse I did with another camera. I had it running the whole time we were filming the video. And yeah, it's noisy because I cranked the ISO in order to keep the shutter speed down a bit since we weren't out there very long, just enough to get a very short timelapse out of it. You can do it with the phones, though it won't look like that. I have tutorials on how to do timelapses with phones.
@@BrentHall Thanks, I'll find your video on it. 😄
I'm no photographer but I really liked this video. Definitely going to try this out.
Another amazing video, thank you brother
You bet man, glad you liked it!
You should try stacking with the phone on the Orion or the milky way
Very interesting video and well explained. Is there an S22 Ultra cover to attach moment's phone lenses? I couldn't find. Only iPhone and Pixel there was.
No, unfortunately Moment is not supporting the S22 Ultra for their lens mount case system.
Thanks for the reply Brent. Hopefully they come round to it, as they did for past models. My friends and I are very interested.
They're not going to, unfortunately. If you want to put external moment lenses on the S22 Ultra you'll have to try it with their universal lens mounts.
Oh I see. What a pity. There wasn't enough interest I guess. Thank you for the detail.
I have S21 normal with android 12 but i have a problem with the focus I don't understand about focus. however , I have 2 options what is the automatic focus option its center o multi ? can you help me please
Hello Brent, I am a tattoo artist. I will soon invest in a real set up to take pictures of my tattoos. I noticed in a lot of your videos you have your favorite lenses are the Moment lenses, but they don't appear to fit on the the S22 Ultra (I use that phone also).
The issue I have is that tattoos either have huge over exposed areas or glare from bodily fluids on fresh tattoos. I have been studying on how to fix this recently, and found most people recommend polarized light and a CPL filter. Most of the solutions I have seen to attach these filters to a phone seem... extremely janky. Of course the real solution is a proper camera, but in the meantime, would you have a suggestion?
I thought about that Beastgrip thing, but it seems that might be money better spent on a proper camera?
Last thing I am a complete noob, what camera proper camera would you recommend for a noob like me to get better tattoo pics and maybe some pictures out while hiking?
Thanks in advance!
Yeah...the moment lenses were definitely my favorite until the S22 Ultra and they quit making lens-compatible cases for Samsung. I doubt they'll make any more moving forward, so I've completely given up on moment lenses since I only have an S22 Ultra. The onboard lenses have been great though. Moment does make a universal adapter but I just don't think it works that well with the S22 either, so personally I wouldn't bother with that. It's not as easy but you can certainly just hold the CP filter over the the phone with your hand. Just get a big enough filter (like 72mm or bigger) and hold it manually. That's the cheapest/easiest fix, though not as practical or convenient as a proper mount, lol.
Like you mentioned, something like a beast grip might be cool, but I definitely agree that you'd overall be better off just putting that money into a better camera. On that note, I don't personally have experience with that many cameras. I'm definitely not a fanboy or anything, but I do shoot Canon, so it's what I know best, but you really can't go wrong with any new camera these days, they're all pretty amazing. The key things really are ergonomics, menu system comfort, lenses, and just overall feel. Best way to find out is to go to a store and see if they have different brands and models that you can try. See which feels the best to you. Personally I think Canon has one of the best overall menus in terms of easy to use and functionality, which is part of the reason I've stuck with them. Within Canon I would say if you want to start out and have something a little more future proof, then their RF system is the way to go, but it is a big price jump up from a phone. The new R10 is their entry level crop body camera, and it's pretty solid for the price (though still relatively expensive). You can certainly always go the dslr rout and get into something like a T7i and some EF-S lenses for much much less money, and that will still be way more versatile and better quality than a phone can do. I would say the same for any other brand as well. Nikon, Sony, etc., all have new mirrorless systems that are great, if a bit pricey still, and all offer older models at much better prices. CPs are definitely helpful for glare though, as is just learning about lighting techniques in general. Learning how to control your light is the first step to getting much better results with any camera setup.
Sorry, I know that's a long, convoluted answer, but I get these kind of questions a lot and they are very hard to answer.
@@BrentHall Thank you for all the feedback. What lens is good for taking pictures of tattoos for the RF series lenses?
The RF 35mm f/1.8 is actually one of my favorite lenses and would be great for that kind of work.
I want to shoot silk like water effect on s22 ultra. What setting do you recommend?
You need an ND filter so that you can use longer exposures. I'm guessing ND32 for a 4 second exposure will do (for a typical overcast daylight). Maybe there exists ND filter attachments for S22 Ultra in the market. Otherwise, you have to make some kind of clamp to attach the regular ND filter for DSLR in front of S22 lenses.
Amazing Video! Could you try to do this with the vivo x80 pro aswell
Thanks, I appreciate it! Unfortunately, I don't have that phone so I won't be able to make any videos about it. All I have is the S22U.
Which app you this video editing..?
Premiere Pro
Awesome video
I have my eye on this phone for almost a year now. Out of my budget but wish to buy.
Is it truly the One phone I should go for?
what is the artifact that you occupy as a tripod for that?
Can this be taken at any location on earth ? Obviously out of city ?
1. Does anyone know the frame rates for Super Slow-Mo and for Slow Motion?
2. Also, do you think "Record when motion detected" in Super Slow-Mo will be activated by the tiny International Space Station passing in front of the magnified sun?
I to would like to know this as well !!!
Super slow-mo is 960 fps and I believe regular Slow-mo is 240fps.
@@Schwabinator003 ... Thanks Louis. You appear to be one of the few people who know those frame rates. It is almost like Samsung tries to keep it secret.
Awesome video :-) It would have been interesting to see if the Sony Xperia 1 III or Pro-I could produce a better result.
Thanks! I've heard good things about hem, but I don't have access to either.
Expert raw is not available in every country. But there is a workaround for the s21ultra.
is it available for s21Ulta?
Idk how you do it but I ca. Only records videos for only 1;30 minutes now for some reason.
Welldone .i like it
What tripod is that?
My set up is different on my phone for pro and expert raw. Same thing but kinda threw me for a loop at first. Lol. I do have an S22 Ultra. Weird
what is the music in the first few seconds of the video
Bro, You must use Expert raw from the Galaxy Store
I love taking night photography
I tried your settings and I got a White sky almost completely. The only difference is that I didnt go to a really pitch black place like you did
That's not the only difference, that's the most important difference! Like I said in the video, you can't just copy my settings and expect to get the same results unless you were there with me or in a very similar dark sky environment. If you got an overexposed image like that then you are in an area with way too much light pollution, and unfortunately the only thing to do is to try and get into darker skies. Also, if you're in the northern hemisphere, then be aware that the milky way core is dropping below the horizon for the year and won't be back up until late next spring.
What is the apps name?
Hello Sir. I am your huge fan. I don't know if you'll see this msg but you might know the phone Vivo X70 pro plus. I just wanted to request you to do some astrophotography from that phone. That phone has a whole lot of advance camera stuff than Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. I am 100% sure you'll love it. Please if possible we would love you see original Timelapse, astrophotography straight from that phone. That phone is very underrated. Hoping you'll see my msg and try to do astrophotography from it. Love from India❤️
How do u think the s22 regular would do? Great video!
I think it would be very similar.
what is the name of the app?
Get ready, in a few weeks 5 planets are gonna line up along with some other goodies.
YAS!
How did you get the raw app
is is Snapgradon or Exnynos version of the Ultra _?

Really nice video , however will suggest to switch off the camera lights before the shutter click
I did that on purpose, so it would light up the foreground in the image.
Great video.
Many thanks!

I have no idea. All I have and all I've used are Samsungs, so I couldn't say how other phones do with it.
