"Rendering" is extracting biologic parts from carcasses. That's how we get things like bone meal and tallow. One retired Long Island Rail Road freight guy once talked about how he had to switch a box car to a customer in Queens...a rendering plant. The brakes on the car were worn so they called in a mechanic to fix them on the company's siding. Curiosity got to both of them and they opened the car to see what was in it. A dead elephant.
Hey, JT, you didn't get the word - that engine is going to be used in an upcoming Disney flick of the children's story - The Little Engine That Could! 🤣🤣🤣 Great capture of a rare unit.!
FYI... The track segment serving the Dupps facility is a segment of the former Cincinnati Northern railroad, which ran from Franklin, OH to Jackson, MI. This segment was still active into the Conrail era. Thanks for posting this rare and interesting freight movement today.
Fantastic video footage of the GE 25T switching locomotive, one of my favourites. Congratulations DUPPS for keeping this locomotive in superb condition.
Dupps makes equipment used to separate out useful products from the results of meat processing. That little engine is cool. Somewhere in it is a diesel engine, a fuel tank, a transmission, a generator, and an air compressor. Pretty neat package!
Thank you so much for catching this train. For years, I have wondered if those tracks were used. I live in Oxford, so I’m in fairly close proximity to Getmantown. Thank you again.
Such a treat to see the little Dupps Mighty Mite stretch its wheelbase over the main line. X it sounds like a little wind-up toy and a horn that sounds like it's been at a New Year's Eve party. The Special Touch of a gold bell and it's good coat of paint make it part of the Dupp family. Make it a point to watch the 5-minute video narrated by Mr Dupp describing the industry and what they produce along with new products as this was their 85th Anniversary. On the side walkway also note that the chainsaw was packed in case of a tree across the tracks. With its lighter-weight it has to slowly Tiptoe Through the grade crossings lest it derail on packed gravel. On the rear platform the trusty air reservoir will help supply air pressure for the train brakes lest the weight of those cars overwhelm the engine brake. Meanwhile back in Chicago the dear folks @ TTX are probably going our car is where? The anticipation builds
Hello from the UK. Well Mr Jaw Tooth, you certainly get to post videos of the interesting out of the way little places and the sort of railway action that other RUclips channels miss. I look forward to part 2 and seeing whether this tiny locomotive manages to pull the wagons. It does seem so small and under powered. I am sure that there are lawn mowers that have more power than this little loco.
I like seeing the crossing across the roads and driveway. The ruts the train makes in the dirt or gravel where it has been dug out by the steel wheels 🧨
When I read that the line only runs a few times a year, I expected an old beat up, worn out piece of crap. That locomotive looks very well maintained. Very interesting video.
They have an internal rail system at their factory, which they use to move equipment around while it's being built, even if it's delivered to the customer by road. See the other videos Jaw Tooth has made about Dupps.
They need some weed killer along the route. The weeds are taller than the little switch engine. I would like to see some old DT&I action on that line. I would imagine the rails would have been kept shiny. Great video JT.
There are a few other sections of the old DT&I that I have filmed. I got the I&O using a piece at Greenfield, Ohio, I recently showed a 5 track abandoned yard in Waverly and that street running piece in Franklin. Thanks for watching!
Oh Jaw Tooth this is just what I wanted to see and I didn't even know about the railroads existence! That loco makes my model of a WDT switcher look big!
Those flat cars are a tremendous amount of weight for that little locomotive to pull because I don't imagine it's got a whole lot of traction effort. I wonder what the tare weight of just one of those flat cars are. You know if I was there running that small locomotive they wouldn't even have to pay me matter fact I would pay them to let me run it! Can't wait for part 2! Thanks as always for sharing!
At 15:20, you can see "LT WT 159800" stencilled on the side of the car. That's the unladen weight in pounds -- so 80 tons. (Dear America, why do you not use the ton? You don't quote the distance from DC to Baltimore as 200,000ft, so why do it with pounds?)
Cool video. I have never seen an engine like that. Sort of reminds me of the Middletown and Hummelstown Railroad. They run and old Western Maryland Alco locomotive on the streets of Middletown but not very often.
This was cool !!!!! Looking forward to part 2. Just a thought. If I won the lottery I could buy some acreage, lay down some track, and buy one of these to ride around. I’m in my 60s but still a kid at heart.
I finally got to hear how you got your nickname Jaw Tooth thanks to Lost Depot who I watched prior to this video! This little Dupps switcher locomotive is quite interesting! I hope it will be able to pull those two flat cars back to their plant. From the sound of it, you were into CB radios back in the day, and Jaw Tooth was your CB handle! How cool is that?
We just saw this on our Roku TV on RUclips and was so cool. The weeds were so awful. 😊 You did good filming this great capture. This is my second time here watching it. Thanks so much. We're glad you finally caught up with this cool red locomotive. ( forgot what you call it) ❤😊 We saw more videos on Roku TV( yours) My husband liked your blue shirt. 😊 Do you get points if we watch your videos twice Mr JT?
Thanks so much! 😊 Yes, I get watch time credit which helps get my video recommended to others and the more ads that you watch the more that Google pays me
The "drone" is actually a RC airport!! Where you was standing, it is at that big red farmhouse. Right behind it. They have a landing strip, a windsock. Usually on the weekend there will be anywhere from 5 or 6 cars to over a dozen there flying!!
This looks like the former Southwest Portand Cement Company loco that ran from their Germantown querry to the concrete plant. It would have had a blue paint job years ago. I lived in Enon in the early 1990's and traveled through Germantown frequently.
More great trains in Carlisle Ohio and the Dupps track was nice to see as well as the iron top bridge this a really great find here and going through Germantown was also great to see and as always i like seeing the cat and dogs in the yard playing and the slide shows of the trains also and another great video Thank You Jaw Tooth.🤠🐶🐱👍 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🇺🇲💨

Those cars weigh over 300 tons each when loaded to max capacity. It would be wildly unsafe to move them while just relying on a little 25-ton locomotive to provide braking. So, yes, they have to have train air brakes.
Is this part of the DT&I line that ran up by Toledo?? Also, some areas looked like they could have been double tracked under DT&I? Adorable cat. I hope that you keep him in at night, for safety
What I thought while seeing this is that this engine is used maybe five times a year. And I would imagine that you have to have a fully accredited train engineer to run it. Regulations somewhere would say so. Plus maybe a conductor/helper to assist with connecting cars, opening and closing gates, etc. I wonder if they keep somebody on retainer.
@@davidwalton3604 I can't tell you for certain, but as soon as you're going over public grade crossings, there are going to be regulations about who can do what. After all, Union Pacific also mostly stay on their own private tracks!

Awesome catch with that rare move! Dupps #1 is nearly identical to the GE switcher Santee Cooper had at its Grainger steam generating plant in Conway, SC. From the 80's-90's it was painted tan & brown with the Santee Cooper logo under the cab. Around 2000 or 2001 it was repainted green & black with the SCWX reporting marks under the cab. She remained there until sometime in 2013. Wow, that is weird! I never heard of a dead elephant on a train. Lol. Thanks for the information
I kept thinking of the Iowa Traction when I was filming this@@FabianDiazTrainsTrucksNCars
I've serviced rendering plants....it's a God awful smell. Summers are the worst, as a conductor you go.through a lot of gloves

Yep, definitely not the DTI.
Conrail ran several trains a day on this until 1982.
Fantastic video footage of the GE 25T switching locomotive, one of my favourites. Congratulations DUPPS for keeping this locomotive in superb condition.
Loving the contrast between the usual enormous freights and this little industrial loco.

No transmission. This GE 25 Ton unit is diesel-electric. 150HP.

I will look that one up. I am not familiar with it
