    Hmmm,
I was born in Tupper Lake, 1960. We moved to Los Angeles in 1965 and I've never been back home. It was on my bucket list...
But, I doubt I'll ever get back to pay respect to my Dad at his grave. Last time I saw him was when Mom left him in 1965. Oh well, rest in peace Dad, I'll see ya on the other side.

My children are fascinated by trains (and myself as well, honestly) and the views are stunning! But I totally understand things like this being rare and likely hard to toss your name in the hat for.

Very interesting historical kept my interest. Great trip see all the side shots as well, crossing roads, safety meetings, doodle bugs being prepared. I liked the little dust on the b&w images as well. Thanks for the hard work.

Great fun and nice to see no breakdowns occurred on the journey...
In New Zealand the motorised 4 man track inspection and worker transports are called "Jiggers" because they have no cabin structure, are hard riding ...and you are "jiggered" after a long journey on them....
I lived near a railway that used these until the branch lines were torn up....
the one I lived near suffered that fate in in 1967....
a short sighted move that still haunts railway enthusiasts and tourist operators to this day...

I am 76 and grew up near Syracuse and have been all over the country. I think the Adirondacks are the most beautiful part of the country. I have taken the Adirondack Scenic train a few times. I also enjoy riding a bicycle but to me it is a shame to tear up rails instead of being able to enjoy a bebeautiful ride from Utica to the Canadian border. You can build bicycle trails but they will never rebuild these rails.

I have never seen (and I have reviewed many) a video that more appropriately highlighted the very scenic nature of the Adirondack Railroad (previously the Adirondack Division of the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad) since it was recently restored to Tupper Lake NY. in 2022 by New York State. Not only was the scenery superbly documented, but the editing, maps, and narration were first class all the way. One truly feels that one was actually sitting in one of the track cars enjoying the trip. Thank you so much for this presentation. Question: How much exposed footage was not used in making this presentation, and could that be presented in another video, as you have documented the line beautifully.

    • @railtime9872

Thank you for your kind words. There were hours of footage to choose from multiple cars as well as my own. There will be another excursion on the Adirondack railroad in early May. Perhaps I will post all the raw footage as one pass. Stay tuned!

Very well done and enjoyable. There are some many things that take up our time. Time wasted that can’t never be replaced. This video however was a pleasure to spend time viewing. As winter sets in upstate NY it makes me long for spring already. It is a terrible shame that they can’t will not figure out how to put trails beside old railroads instead of ripping them up.

    3. Trees with multi color looked beautiful. Good location for picture post card - a forgotten hobby of present generation. 4. A bit sad to see a train full of wooden logs. I am for preservation of trees.
    5. Camera work is good.
    6. Many bridges were seen. One or two shots from below the bridges are also welcome.
    7. Take a group of engineering students and ask them to draw and analyses the construction of those bridges.
    8. Show the present conditions of the stations.

@@railtime9872 The Adirondack Museum has lots to offer. And it's a beautiful area. I went there numerous times to visit my parents when they were still alive.

So cool. I live near Balsam, NC and their claim to fame is that until the station was demolished, it was the highest railroad station in the Eastern US (3,304'). Topton NC, which is on the GSMR line, is 2,654', but again, no more operable station there. Dillsboro, NC is 2,060', and is still served by the GSMR...they might have 26' on you!

I rode my railbike (pedal powered) from Big Moose to just below Tupper Lake. It was an experience of a lifetime... gorgeous. I ended up at a friend's place, right along the rails... I know his wife filmed this excursion going by... Now, I'll watch... maybe you caught her in this footage.

Thanks for this great video. I have visited the Lake Placid area several times and saw they used to have a rai line. It is nice to see this part of some of the north country rail lines. Very scenic particularly at that time of year.

Nice! Had no idea the lakes were that big and numerous. I was on a 50 mile canoe trip with the boy scouts about 55 years ago- Raquette River/ Tupper Lake. Wow. Time flies.

If you have a motorcar you can! If you don't you can still ride that line on the Adirondack Scenic railroad or rent a railbike. Check both out:
