    Its the first ever battle report for my channel and, our getting the rules wrong aside, it is a doozy. Warhammer The Old World may not be here yet, but that does not prevent me indulging in my love of 5th Edition Warhammer Fantasy (quite possibly the best Warhammer Fantasy ever made IMO). Today is my first ever game with my Bretonnians from my Tale of Four Gamers series so apologies for them not being fully painted, and my friend Michael's second game with his High Elves in over 20 years! As a first battle report video this is a bit of a learning curve for me, but I hope people enjoy it as much as we enjoyed playing it (well I enjoyed playing it anyway... can't speak for Michael and his luck....)
    As ever you can find me on Twitter and Instagram as 90percentgeek so if you don't already follow me there, give us a click!

    Oh wow, a battle report! :D
    Was earlier today wondering what you would post today, waiting... Nice surprise!

      Ah man, did the multi-shots ignore armour saves too? That´s a little too much to be honest.. So.. I would not worry too much about making it like 6th Ed.. :)

      @@ja37d-34 I would politely disagree. :D Mind you I didn't realise the single shot ignored armour either or I'd have been doing single shots.

    AHHHH YES! It's great to see some 5th edition!!! It's my favourite edition, probably the most stream-lined, deeply thematic, and hilarious of them all. Nice job on the BR mate!! also love the energy, seems like you had fun despite the battle being a little one sided ;)

      I really did. I've not had a bad game if 5th since I started playing it again, even when I've lost horribly!

    Not only do the volley shots from repeater bolt throwers ignore armour saves but they also penetrate through ranks. Especially juicy against Bretonnians in lance formation. You'll really want the lady on your side when facing them!

    The Grail Knights are so pure of heart and conviction that they look angelically white on my screen! 😜😂🤣 Love the look of your Bretonnian army. So excited to see you continue making progress.

    High Elves need a rematch with a proper understanding of the bolt thrower rules! Nice work on the battle report - I'm looking forward to the next one. Beautiful paint jobs on your Bretonnians too.

      Thanks! Think a refight may soon be in the offing, unless I do a total 180 and dig out my vampire counts for our next game!

    Also a tip to the elven player, get the Talisman of Hoeth (if allowed) on your general, a 2nd caster would help a lot in future games!

    • @Funkodrom
      @Funkodrom Год назад

      Yes! Unfortunately it's 85 points and I only have one magic item of up to 50 points available, plus up to 100 points of items on my general but no item that costs more than 75 points.

    • @Funkodrom
      @Funkodrom Год назад +1

      Because of the territories I rolled. (it's basically the campaign rules in the battle book)
      I am allowed 4 monsters and 4 war machines, so that plus what models I can get cost effectively are what drove my army list.
      My last game of Warhammer was 4th ed when it was still new. So I've had 3 months to buy and paint an army before the return to the badlands event.

    The choice of the original White Dwarf style battle map (including all the little explosion markers! 😁) was absolutely fantastic 😄👍
    Trying to finish my Bretonnians in time for the Old World at the moment too! @parravon_miniatures 😁👍⚜️
    Great report, keep it coming! 😁👍⚜️

    If anyone reading this would enjoy a 5th Edition match in Hampshire OR Berkshire in the UK, Let me know! I am a newbie in terms of playing matches, but I have 5 Armies to choose from - Wood Elves, Dwarfs, Orcs and Goblins, Chaos warriors, an Chaos Dwarfs!!

    5th was great to point where I think 6th was kind of the beginning of the end for fantasy. Sure magic and heroes could be ridiculously OP, but later editions increasingly meant you needed loads and loads of models to have an enjoyable game. Age of Sigmar has fixed this a bit but lost all the uniqueness of fantasy. Also 5th had the best army books! High elves had the background to every single Phoenix king

    • @90percentgeek
      @90percentgeek  Год назад

      I would absolutely agree that 5th had the best army books in terms of both the lore, the art, the stories and even the layout. I really like 6th too though, I think as a wargame it was better thought out than 5th but perhaps less fun because of that. I would say 5th is best for narrative gaming whereas 6th was best for competitive play.

    I think the game could've had a very different outcome if all those Bolts hadn't been saved by your armour, as not only would they have killed quite a few models you saved, but also penetrated the ranks to hit more models.

    • @90percentgeek
      @90percentgeek  Год назад +1

      Absolutely! We're thinking of re-fighting it, and I'll probably film that as well so people can see how things go when we actually play by the rules!

    You wouldn't know where I could find a set of 5th edition warhammer fantasy would you?

    • @90percentgeek
      @90percentgeek  5 месяцев назад

      A set still mint in box? Or just a set of the rules?

    • @sterlingnorthum3911
      @sterlingnorthum3911 5 месяцев назад

      Well a complete set, I suppose. I could use more of the lizard men to finish my2,000 pts of the original models. And I've always wanted a Britonian army. And of course I would need the Battle magic box set as well.

    • @sterlingnorthum3911
      @sterlingnorthum3911 5 месяцев назад

      I just wanted to apologize if I seen it seemed a bit presumptuous about what I said about the lizard man army I have from the 5th edition fantasy period.
      The 5th edition holds a special spot in my heart. Because, my late brother and I used to play, and upon his passing I received part of his collection that he had. But to be honest, I hadn't had the heart to do anything with the Miniatures and Warhammer fantasy in general, since then back in 2001 when he passed. However, getting to see you playing it along with your obvious enthusiastic love ofthe game, brought back a lot of dear memories to me.
      I would like to thank you for that. In regards to what need is really is a set of the rules.I still have a few of the Army books from the 5th edition Warhammer Fantasy and I would also need the battle magic so that I could get the battle magic cards.
      But I thought that the only way that I could get all of the cards for the original magic items would be with the original box set I can't remember if there were cards in the book that I could photocopy and if that's the case or if you're somewhere off the internet that I could download them that would be fine too.
      It's quite funny to think that something as silly as pushing little plastic fantasy army men around on a table could bring back such pleasant memories.
      Once again; thank you for all that you do, and bringing your contagious enthusiasm to all of your viewers. Cheers

      Wow, it's always amazing to see someone re-discover their enthusiasm for the hobby, especially when it clearly held so many important memories to you of the times with your brother. In terms of where you can get rules there are fairly easy to find free to download PDFs of the core rules book, battle book, magic book and army books out there on the web. That was my starting point when I began to get back into 5th edition fantasy. Beyond that then I tried eBay and discovered there were some very helpful trading groups on Facebook where people with the same enthusiasm for this era of the game swap models and books at much more reasonable prices.

      I really appreciate you taking the time to respond with all the great information. I'll check it out and see if I can begin to try to get the old memories turned in to new ones, I think that Shawn would have liked that.
      Thank you so much for everything, and keep up the great work. I look forward to seeing more fantastic content from your site. Cheers
