She writes all of her own music and has been since she was a young teenager in country music. Even if she has co-writers they will usually say she did 90% of it. That’s her thing. She considers herself a songwriter first and foremost.

I'm literally so concerned she's gonna get injured or something. Even the actor who plays Alexander Hamilton, for example, is offstage sometimes (though never truly "off," as he has to listen for his cues and all), and he has understudies. Taylor Swift on the Eras Tour has 15-second costume change breaks and zero understudies!

She always writes her own music. She is a genius songwriter and storyteller since she was a kid. There is no one better with just her and her acoustic guitar.
Agreed. I’ve gone back to listen to her songs a few more times to better understand her lyrics. Her lyrics are pretty deep and meaningful. I really respect her more and more as a artist and musician the more I listen to her music.

The Long Pond Sessions with her, Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner as they perform Folklore is one of my favorite live preformances and videos of hers. Its a much softer vibe, very folk-like but the preformances are amazing and some of her best written work. This was the album she released during the pandemic, and made so many people who had previously thought she was just a "pop princess" become die-hard fans.

One of the albums during the pandemic lol cuz she’s nonstop lol
She never actually _stops_ writing; she grew up playing piano, and took up guitar at 12. She learned her first three chords; and wrote a song. She picked up banjo from her band; got a ukulele in Hawaii and learned that. She was asked once if she ever played any other instruments, and she said she plays them to accompany her singing; so, no flutes or horns.
She varies how she writes; sometimes someone sends her a track and she'll spontaneously combust into a song; other times she'll spend a few weeks working on it. And sometimes she wakes up in the night and finishes it before breakfast. Usually, the underlying chord structure is uncomplicated; that is part of her genius.
She wrote T'is the Damn Season (on Evermore) after her host (Aaron Dessner) went to bed; she was a bit drunk. (she is a bit embarrassed by how much of a lightweight she is -- a couple drinks and "I'm a wizard!" ) It was recorded the next day. She keeps the final say, but she likes to collaborate with producers/writers whose work she admires. Their suggestions will spark her imagination, and the songs are often written very fast. fwiw, she has writing (or co-writing) credits for all her songs, and co-produced all her songs starting with her second album (Fearless; 2008).
The only cover song she recorded was Untouchable, by Luna Halo; she changed the arrangement and made adjustments to the lyrics, so the band just added her as a co-writer on her version of the song. There are a number of other covers she's done live, but she hasn't put any others on any albums.

Her songwriting is a Taylor trademark. She'll sometimes cowrite with people she respects, but the melody and/or lyrics always start with her.
Taylor is known for her writing, she writes her own stuff, all of it, sometimes she's the only writer other times she has one cowriter, other times it's a group, but she is always involved, she even said multiple time she believes if it wasn't for her writing she wouldn't be here today or at least as successful, it's the writing and her storytelling she believes that sets her apart from other superstars.

The thing about Taylor is that maybe not everybody likes all of her songs, but if you seriously give a chance to her discography you cannot deny she is a genius songwriter and amazingly talented! So ofc we all have different tastes and that’s okay but talent is talent 🤷♀️

She won a national poetry contest at 12 yrs old and wrote a 350 page book at 14 that's unpublished and her parents are holding onto. Also, she's been in the Guiness book 118 times. So far.
She writes her own songs, and when she co-writes she generally starts that with most of the lyrics and melody, and just edits with her co-writers. She’s always writing, and you can find published versions of the iPhone notes she makes as initial recordings when she gets ideas. There are a lot of videos about her songwriting process too.
Her album, Speak Now, she was the sole writer for every song, just to prove she could do that.
Her 1989 and Reputation Tour both have official concert movies, and there’s a ton of footage of her earlier tours available.

She also was the producer on her "Speak Now" album and in the studio recordings played most of the stringed instruments just to show people she could do it herself, but after that she went back to doing things her usual way. Taylor also has song writing credits on many songs made famous by other artists and has even written songs specifically for other artists mostly in Country Music. She has written songs for movies as well.

She was the youngest inductee into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame (she writes music & lyrics) and the entire reason she is re-recording and releasing her first six albums as Taylor’s Versions is to reclaim her own work which was sold out from under her by her former label. She would have met the price to buy back her work but they didn’t let her. After building an entire label from very little on her success they got vindictive when she didn’t resign a very unfair contract made when she was 15 years old. She wanted to grow as an artist and move in new directions, they wanted her in a box. She went to a company willing to release anything she wanted to record & keep her publishing rights. It’s worked out very well for them as she has had artistic and commercially successful new albums and re-releases that have out sold the originals. Now when material from her TV albums are used or played, the Taylor’s Version is always used. The investment didn’t turn out as expected which is excellent considering the buyer knew she wanted her own music back, bought it anyway and sold to a foreign investment group instead of to her (they are suing him). We benefit as well as each new version contains vault tracks she wanted on the original but for whatever reason didn’t make the final album. She had a large library of recorded material not yet released, hopefully we’ll hear it all someday. Given the quality of the vault tracks to date, I’d love to hear some of them from Lover forward.
Excellent idea for a special release set, The Vault Tracks, From Lover to TTPD. I can only imagine the sales (and videos). We’re also looking forward to a full or partial rock album.

she is an incredible songwriter. her albums Folklore and Evermore focus on her storytelling and have (in my opinion) her best songwriting work, they're also more folk and indie than pop, so i really recommend listening to them :)

We took the outdoor travel intro out of the videos because it was too long and people were clicking off the videos before the songs even started.
She writes ALL of her own music, and has since she was tall enough to walk. She is an artist and writer before anything. To the few songs where she had collaborators, it was minimal and always was in the form of her bouncing off of them. She is truly amazing.

& even if u are not a fan, u gonna love her concert..& i can assure u, ur $400 bucks is worth every penny coz her councerts, there's nothing like it.
note: i've been to many concerts featuring some of the greatest artist..Metallica, U2, G&R, Bon Jovi, Deff Leppard, Michael Jackson, Madonna..& even some of the K-Pops. But there's nothing like a Taylor Swift shows & i've been fortunate enough to see two of hers (Red Tour & 1989 Tour)..& hopefully i can get to see her Eras Tour too..

A fun fact, Taylor never charges for her meet&greets. She, her mom, and her management look up fans online and fans during the shows and then invite them to her m&g backstage in one of her concerts. That's how I managed to meet her during one of her European tours (I'm still waiting for her to announce the European dates for her Eras Tour).
And her live concerts are amazing, up there with some of my other favorite live artist like Foo Fighters, U2 and Coldplay.

@@DANDJREACT I believe it’s so she can stay healthy to perform for her shows. Not only for her but her mother has had cancer and may still have to go through treatment, not completely sure on if she is in remission or not but that could be another reason for no meet and greets this time. The song Soon You’ll Get Better is about Andrea having cancer. It’s a beautiful song but difficult to listen to.
Taylor writes all of her music herself. She's actually one of the best songwriters in the industry. U should react to more of her deeper stuff like her albums Folklore and Evermore.

My favourite part of this performance is the 4:50 to 5:15 mark of this video. I think her vocals in this part is exceptional. I believe I mentioned in a different comment that I didn't like this song before I saw this performance. This performance changed my opinion on the song. She is definitely fun to watch live. The fans have always supported Taylor trying new genres. We support her taking us to wherever her creativity leads to next. Nothing compares to a Taylor concert. Her concert in Minneapolis will be equally over the top as the one she will do in Vegas. However, nothing beats Taylor with just one instrument holding the attention of 80,000 plus fans in a stadium.

Taylor is insanely talented. She writes her own music, plays the instruments, and works 1-on-1 with anyone involved. I feel like Taylor Swift is a genius and can try any style of music, and it always works for her. If you read her lyrics and see her poetry, it is stunning. She can win over crowds who don't normally listen to her style of music because she is so genuine and talented. It's undeniable.

As everyone has mentioned she 💯 writes her own music, helps with the production and she also directs her videos too. In my opinion she slays every genre, she’s legit a well rounded force❤ I’ll be seeing her in Santa Clara in July!

I'm going to see her in Kansas City! Can't wait! RED is seriously my favorite era and it was definitely her most rock album. She's obviously mostly pop, but she 1000% branches out, tries different genres. She's a huge fan of many different types of music so it bleeds into her songs! She does write her own music. Sometimes she has cowriters and sometimes she "writes to track" so she wrote lyrics for a piece of music that already exists. She did that a ton in folklore (with Aaron Dessner) and 1989 (with Jack Antonoff), but she definitely also writes music herself.

@@DANDJREACT she came out with a new album last year, Midnights. But she hasn't announced anything else. I know a lot of people are speculating that she'll release the rerecording of Speak Now soon, and I believe it's already finished, but she's super busy getting ready for tour right now, which is starting this Friday, so I doubt she will release it soon. Some people think she'll just drop it before tour (since it's a rerecording and not a new album - except the Vault tracks), but I don't agree with that theory.
In case you're wondering, Vault tracks are songs she wrote at the same time as the other music on an album, but that she didn't release. It's unreleased music that she recorded for the rerecording to encourage fans to buy the album. She's reclaiming her Master's since she wasn't given the opportunity to buy them when her previous record company changed hands.

Taylor is involved in the musical writing of ALL her songs. She has written 100% of about half her songs (i.e. the chord progression, vocal melody and lyrics), and the remaining half had one or two co-writers. Of course there is nothing wrong with co-writing anyway, but people try and use that as ammo to pull her down. Some of the best song writers in history co-wrote with others - like Lenon and McCartney (Beatles), and Brian May and Freddie Mercury (Queen). Even some of her songs that have a credited co-writer she still wrote 90% of it musically - like Blank Space. As for PRODUCTION, i.e. the style, instruments used and musical arrangement, well that is where the producer steps in. She is not a one man band, and so the producer and session musicians create the style. Many of her songs are really adaptable, and work very good as Rock Songs. Practically all her songs sound great sung solo with just an acoustic guitar or piano because that's how she writes them. One interesting point .. I don't think Taylor has ever played an instrument on any of her recordings - (maybe she did on her first album). I find that a little bit of a shame, because she is a really solid guitarist and pianist and quite capable of playing on her recordings, and it would be nice to have her playing as well as singing. That she doesn't is probably due to pragmatism (time/costs etc.) and maybe she thinks the record will sound better if a more skilled guitarist or pianist is on the recording.

Ooh, you've committed the cardinal sin of suggesting that Taylor doesn't write all her own music, lol. She considers herself a songwriter who performs her songs, rather than a singer who writes songs, if that makes sense. If she wasn't writing music, she would definitely be a poet or a novelist. She started writing music when she was 12, was hired by a record label in Nashville to co-write at the age of 14, and released her first album of songs she wrote in high school when she was 16. After her 2nd album won the Grammy for Album of the Year as well as a bunch of country music awards when she was 18, a lot of cynics questioned if an 18 year old girl could have really held her own weight in those writing sessions. So, she wrote her entire 3rd album completely on her own at age 20 and it truly is one of her best. That album has several country rock songs on it you might enjoy: Haunted, The Story of Us, Sparks Fly. Her album named 1989 (after the year of her birth, released in 2014) is her first true pop album, but her tour performances have more of a rock feel. Reputation also has a lot of hard-hitting songs, but you have to experience them live on tour; her Reputation Tour was made into a Netflix special.
Don't worry about content, gentlemen. She has 10 studio albums, multiple tours and other live performances, music videos, a couple of documentaries; you would probably have to do daily TS videos for a year to cover it all. She doesn't have another album coming out soon, except for her highly-anticipated next re-recording, but no one knows when that will be. Her latest album, Midnights, was just released in October, her 4th new album in as many years (she released 2 albums in 2020 because she had to stay busy in quarantine!)
It's so funny to hear you guys talking about her concert in Vegas, as if it's not part of a nation-wide 52 night tour extravaganza, with international dates to be announced, her first tour in 5 years, lol (not to blame you guys at all, it's just surreal to realize there are people out there who are unaware, but that's fine, that's why we're here!) If you didn't hear about it, just for fun, you could google Taylor Swift and Ticketmaster to find out what a fiasco it was when her tickets went on sale, some people spent 8 hours in the online queue, had tickets swiped out of their carts before they could check out, it was a blood bath. Congress actually opened an investigation into Ticketmaster's monopoly because of it. So yeah, her tours are quite a big deal, especially since her planned 2020 tour was scrapped due to Covid.

This was supposed to be the foreshadowing to her missing album, "Karma" which is supposed to be Pop-Rock, which was never released, due to the situation with Kanye West. It is supposed to exist somewhere, and this was our taste. Due to her disappearing, and then "Reputation" being released, we never did get it, and very little more has been said, other than her Easter Eggs.

Taylor 100% writes her own songs. She may give producers writing credit which is customary in the industry. She was the only writer on her 3rd album. She will occasionally include co-writers to help edit but she will usually have a vast majority of the song completed . Btw you will never get through all the Taylor content if you include videos and live performances. But I will say. All of it is great

She does write her own music, often with co-writers, often by herself, she is this generation's Shakespeare, as far as lyricism and melodies. The tickets for the "Era's" tour are as high as several thousand dollars. Her fan base are rabid. She is amazing, even if you are not a fan, you have to admire here dedication to her craft and her fans- you will never run out of her music, lol, she is amazingly prolific.

Hey guys. Like everyone said, she is a songwriter. Actually, when she was 11 she won a national poetry concert and wrote a novel at age 13. At age 14 she was hired by Sony music writing music for other artists. At age 14. She attended songwriting workshops and did songwriters nights at the clubs in Nashville, that’s where she was discovered and signed at age 15. She writes all her songs, she is the most prolific writer today. I think the reason she remains so popular is because of her lyrics, which have evolved over the 19 years. And any good song writing can be sung in any genre. Usually pop music sacrifices lyrics for a catchy hook. Her best songs are usually NOT the hits, they just pay the bills.
I’ll suggest again Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve, but you may like I did Something Bad. The live 2018 AMAs performance.

Taylor then left Big Machine, and next is Lover, folklore, evermore, and Midnights. During the same time span as her sister albums folklore and evermore she re-recorded and released Fearless and Red Taylor's Version (TV) with the vault songs that didn't get put on the originals. I live for the vault tracks. Notice I did not capitalize folklore and evermore, that is because Taylor did that intentionally. She is not doing her re-records in order, she is doing them in regarding the importance to her, especially Fearless went Platinum and Diamond.

I think - and correct me if I'm wrong - that you were specifically asking about the instrumental parts when you asked whether Taylor writes her own music. And going from that, I think a lot of people who are replying might be sort of unintentionally answering the wrong question. Because Taylor definitely writes lyrics on every song, either solo or co-writes. There is no such thing as a Taylor Swift song where she wasn't solely or largely responsible for the lyrics/vocal melody. So the replies answering with a totally un-qualified "yes" probably think you're asking about that. But the instrumental stuff is harder to pin down because that can be done by her and a co-writer/producer (who are often, but not always, the same person, depending on the song) during the initial creation of a song, or she might write something on her own at home just on one instrument and then work with a producer later to flesh out the instrumental stuff, or in other cases someone will send her an instrumental track and she'll write lyrics to that. It just depends on the song and can't really be answered with a blanket yes or no. But in no case would I describe any of it as a "ghostwriter" because to me that kind implies that people's contributions are being hidden or otherwise lied about - they're always credited.

As many commenters have said she writes all of her songs. Ryan Tedder who is a collaborator on her 1989 album as said that for the first and only time he wasn’t sure if he has done enough wasn’t sure if he deserved the credit. Speak Now is 100% self written

A comment on the "contacts" she probably did wear them but her eyes are this blue! The clue that she wore some sort of corrective lenses came around her release of "Lover" when Jimmy Fallon revealed that her mom had secretly recorded her after her Lasik Eye surgery (funny clip if you want to laugh)

Years ago, the band Pearl Jam tried to go outside of Ticketmaster to sell their tickets but it didn't work. Bruce Springsteen is trying to do the same.

@@DANDJREACT If you want to have genuine nightmares, the reason why she wrote a song with Andrew Lloyd Weber is she was in that fiasco Cats; she plays the cat Bombalurina and sings Macavity. This means there's a video out there of Taylor Swift in digital cat fur with a tail, and nothing else. ...and Idris Elba, eventually. (And Dame Judi Dench, also a cat, but one wearing the fur of... another cat? It's so traumatically weird.)
But Cats was directed by Tom Hooper, who is known for making his actors do what's called singing-through for musicals. (He also is responsible for the movie of the musical Les Miserables.) This means that the singing you hear in the movie is the singing they were doing at the time of filming; there's no going in and recording it "clean" in a studio. Some people love this, because they think it preserves theatre musicals in a movie, and other people really (really) hate it.
So, technically the song, Macavity, is a live performance...with Idris Elba. It's just that everyone is naked "wearing" digital cat fur.
The original song she wrote with Andrew Llyod Weber is called Beautiful Ghosts, and it's lovely for what it is - a very over-the-top, Andrew Llyod Weber, Phantom of the Opera-esque dramatic show tune.
You should pause the music to comment- can't understand anything you are saying when you talk over the music.
