Little Feat was one of those almost famous bands. When I listened to them, I was "these guys are really good" but the rest of the world just yawned. History appears to prove me right. So very glad you liked the song. I can recommend: Fat Man In The Bath Tub, Sailin' Shoes, Oh Atlanta, and Old Folks Boogie.

Love Little Feat. That mix of R & B, soul, and a hint of C & W, lol, makes for a funky brew. As I've said many times before, when the Little Feat went on the turntable, the party was on. Hopefully it will continue.

The "shy guy with a guitar" is Jesse Winchester, who moved to Canada when he got drafted, released his Robbie Robertson-produced debut album a couple years later, and became a citizen a couple years after that. This clip is from a few months after Jimmy Carter became president and granted amnesty to draft evaders which is how Jesse was able to appear on a show filmed in L.A. Emmylou alludes to this when she introduces him for his solo spot, a song called "Rhumba Man" where he shows off his dance moves. The not very shy guy playing the guitar is Little Feat's Paul Barrere who never met a solo he didn't like. They do have similar hair but Jesse's hairline is a bit further forward (not a shot, just a way to identify the two.)

Thanks for doing Little Feat. They are on my play list. You should try "This is Us" off the "All The Roadrunning" album with Emmy Lou and Mark Knopfler.

This live version leaves out the entire second verse!...which sorta blows the whole storyline.
But you guys got it. Hit it on the head.
    -----------------
Well, we made all the hotspots, my money flowed like wine
Then the lowdown southern whiskey, yea, began to fog my mind
And I don't remember church bells or the money I put down
On the white picket fence and boardwalk
On the house at the end of town
Oh, but boy do I remember the strain of her refrain
And the nights we spent together
And the way she called my name

Love to see you reacting again to Little Feat. I have long felt that they have been historically underappreciated.

Lowell George, the singer, songwriter and lead guitarist was brilliant. Sadly he died young. Their Waiting for Columbus live album is one of the best live albums ever. Def southern rock with a little blues thrown in.

Did never consider them southern rock especially since only one member of the band was from the south and that was Texas

If you want to see the classic line up at their peak, check out their performances at Rockpalast on the Time Loves A Hero tour in 1977. (available on RUclips).

Great band but this version leaves out a verse. They opened for Jimmy Buffett years ago and I got to see them.

great song but this is an extremely short version. missing at least one whole verse and a lot of great music. that's the problem with midnight special.

Plus they mixed Emmylou and Bonnie into inaudibilty. ☹

Is this what you consider Country? Hmmm. I suppose it does have some elements. Maybe more crossover.

Growing up here in Nashville we didn't consider Little Feat country at all.
